How much does Mounjaro cost in the UK?

Our standard price for the Mounjaro pen is £169.99 at 2.5mg, £189.99 at 5mg, £244.99 at 7.5mg, £274.99 at 10mg, £289.99 at 12.5mg and £299.99 at 15mg. Each is one pen, which is four weekly doses. Weekly, that works out at £42.50 at the starting dose and £75.00 at the top dose. All six doses are in stock.

What the price includes

The consultation is free, and the price shown is the price paid, with no hidden fees. The price covers the pen, needles, a sharps bin and injection guidance with every order. Your request is reviewed by a GPhC-registered prescriber, not a scoring script. Payment is taken when you place the order, as usual, and if the prescriber decides the treatment is not suitable, the order is refunded automatically in full.

Delivery is free, next-day and tracked, in temperature-controlled packaging, and we dispatch the same day when you order by 3pm. Saturday delivery is £14.99. Ongoing monthly reviews are part of the service, and repeat orders re-check suitability, with no auto-shipping.

What a first year costs

Treatment starts low and steps up, so the cost changes over time. If you step up after 4 weeks on each dose, your first four pens (2.5mg to 10mg) cost £879.96 at standard prices. Doses go up depending on how you respond, so your own path may differ.

The table shows first-year totals at standard prices, before discounts. A new customer's first order is £40 less, and every later order is £25 less.

A first year costs £2,399.88 if you stay on 5mg after your 2.5mg starting pen, up to £3,279.88 if you step up through every dose to 15mg. If you settle at another dose, your monthly cost is that dose's price: £244.99 at 7.5mg, £274.99 at 10mg or £289.99 at 12.5mg.

05 · Comparing like for like

What to check when comparing prices

The pen price alone does not tell you the total cost, so compare the same dose, the same pen and the full checkout total. A low headline figure can hide separate charges for the clinical review, delivery or essential items such as needles and a sharps bin.

• Dose: compare 2.5mg with 2.5mg, 5mg with 5mg and so on.
• Fees: ask whether the consultation, delivery and needles are included.
• Standard or first-order: a first-order offer is not the price of your second pen, so compare standard prices with standard prices.
• Follow-up: check whether monthly reviews and dose guidance are part of the service.
• Registration: check the pharmacy on the GPhC register before you pay.

06 · NHS or private

NHS availability and private cost

Mounjaro is available on the NHS, but access is being phased in over several years. NICE recommends it for adults with a BMI of at least 35 plus at least one weight-related condition, and the NHS primary-care rollout began in June 2025 with the highest-need groups first, initially BMI 40+ with four or more qualifying conditions.⁴⁶ Full rollout is expected to take years.

07 · Who it is licensed for

Who Mounjaro is licensed for

Mounjaro is licensed for weight management in adults with a BMI of 30 or above, or a BMI between 27 and 30 with at least one weight-related condition such as high blood pressure, high cholesterol, obstructive sleep apnoea, cardiovascular disease, prediabetes or type 2 diabetes. It must be used alongside a reduced-calorie diet and increased physical activity.¹ A prescriber will assess your BMI, medical history and current medicines before deciding whether it is suitable.

Mounjaro is the brand name for tirzepatide, a once-weekly injectable prescription medicine made by Eli Lilly, also licensed for type 2 diabetes. It comes as a pre-filled KwikPen in six strengths: 2.5mg, 5mg, 7.5mg, 10mg, 12.5mg and 15mg.¹

It is a prescription-only medicine, supplied only after an online consultation reviewed by a GPhC-registered prescriber. Individual results vary.

08 · Who should not take it

Who should not take Mounjaro

Mounjaro is not suitable for everyone. You should not take it if you are allergic to tirzepatide or any of its ingredients, and it should not be used during pregnancy or while trying to conceive.¹³ It must be stopped at least one month before trying to conceive, and if you become pregnant during treatment, stop the medicine and tell your prescriber promptly.

Your prescriber will take extra care, or may recommend against treatment, if you have a history of pancreatitis, severe gut or digestive disease, diabetic retinopathy or gallbladder problems. Always share your full medical history and medicine list during the consultation. If you take the contraceptive pill, Mounjaro can reduce how well it is absorbed, so switch to a non-oral method or add a barrier method (such as condoms) for 4 weeks after starting Mounjaro and for 4 weeks after each dose increase.

09 · Side effects and warnings

Side effects and when to get help

Like all medicines, Mounjaro can cause side effects, and most are digestive. The most common, affecting more than 1 in 10 people, are nausea, diarrhoea, vomiting, constipation and abdominal discomfort. Common effects, up to 1 in 10 people, include indigestion, reduced appetite, dizziness, reflux, burping, hair shedding and injection-site reactions. They are most likely when starting treatment or moving up a dose, and for most people they ease within days to a few weeks as the body adjusts.¹³

Serious side effects are uncommon but need urgent attention. Get medical help straight away for severe, persistent stomach pain that may spread to your back, with or without vomiting (possible pancreatitis). Get medical help straight away for pain in the upper right abdomen, fever or yellowing of the skin or eyes (possible gallbladder problems), or for signs of a severe allergic reaction such as swelling of the face or throat and difficulty breathing.¹³

If you take insulin or a sulfonylurea alongside Mounjaro, watch for low blood sugar (shakiness, sweating, confusion), as your prescriber may need to adjust those medicines. You can report any suspected side effect through the Yellow Card scheme.¹⁹

10 · What you are paying for

What the treatment can do

In the SURMOUNT-1 trial of 2,539 adults, people taking tirzepatide alongside diet and exercise lost on average 15% of their body weight on 5mg, 19.5% on 10mg and 20.9% on 15mg over 72 weeks, compared with 3.1% with lifestyle changes alone.² For someone starting at 100 kg, 20.9% is about 21 kg. These are trial averages and individual results vary; treatment works alongside a reduced-calorie diet and increased physical activity, not instead of them.

Tirzepatide activates two gut-hormone receptors, GIP and GLP-1, which help regulate appetite, slow how quickly the stomach empties and improve the way the body responds to insulin.¹ In practice, most people feel fuller sooner and less hungry between meals, which supports a reduced-calorie diet.

11 · Mounjaro and Wegovy

Mounjaro and Wegovy

Wegovy (semaglutide) is another once-weekly weight loss injection with its own dose ladder. Its pens are 0.25mg, 0.5mg, 1mg, 1.7mg and 2.4mg; the dose steps up after 4 weeks on each of 0.25mg, 0.5mg, 1mg and 1.7mg, so the 2.4mg maintenance dose starts from week 17.¹⁸

12 · Storing your pen

Storing your pen so nothing is wasted

Keep Mounjaro pens in a fridge at 2–8°C and never freeze them. Once in use, a pen can be kept out of the fridge at a temperature not above 30°C for up to 30 days after first use, which is useful for short trips, and must then be thrown away.¹³ Do not use a pen that has been above 30°C or has been frozen. Keep the pen cap on to protect it from light.

13 · Avoiding fake pens

Avoiding counterfeit pens when price shopping

An unusually low price is a warning sign. The MHRA has seized thousands of fake weight-loss pens in the UK and has issued alerts after falsified Mounjaro pens were identified. Fake pens have caused hospitalisations, and some contained insulin rather than tirzepatide.⁷ Only buy from a pharmacy you can verify on the GPhC register, never from social media, beauty salons or unverified websites. Genuine treatment always involves a prescription and a clinical consultation.¹²

A genuine pen comes from a registered pharmacy with a batch number and expiry date, arrives cold-chain packaged, and the solution is clear and colourless. Do not use a pen that has been frozen, looks cloudy or discoloured, has particles in it, is past its expiry, or has been out of the fridge for more than 30 days, or above 30°C in use. In-use pens can be kept at a temperature not above 30°C for up to 30 days; do not use a pen that has been above 30°C.¹³ If supply or packaging ever seems wrong, check the pharmacy on the GPhC register and contact the pharmacy before injecting.
