Where you can fill a Mounjaro prescription in the UK

Mounjaro is a prescription-only medicine, so it can only be dispensed by a registered pharmacy against a valid prescription. In practice you have three routes: NHS dispensing, a private online pharmacy, or a local pharmacy that agrees to dispense a private prescription. Which one applies depends on how your prescription was issued and whether you meet the criteria.

Filling through a private online pharmacy

An online pharmacy is the most direct route if you do not yet have a prescription. You complete a health questionnaire, a prescriber reviews it, and if treatment is suitable the pharmacy dispenses and delivers the pen. There is no separate visit to a GP to collect a script and then find a pharmacy.

04 · The NHS route

Getting a Mounjaro prescription filled on the NHS

Mounjaro is available on the NHS, but access is being phased in over several years. NICE recommends it for adults with a BMI of at least 35 plus at least one weight-related condition. The NHS primary-care rollout began in June 2025 with the highest-need groups first, initially BMI 40+ with four or more qualifying conditions.⁴⁶

On the NHS, treatment starts with your GP or a specialist weight-management service, not with a pharmacy. They decide whether you qualify and issue the prescription. You then take it to a community pharmacy to be dispensed, paying the NHS charge of £9.90 per item in England unless you are exempt.

Full rollout is expected to take years. That is why many people who meet the licensed criteria choose regulated private treatment rather than wait. 05 · Eligibility to be prescribed

Who can be prescribed Mounjaro

Whichever pharmacy fills the prescription, the prescriber must first decide Mounjaro is suitable. Mounjaro is licensed for weight management in adults with a BMI of 30 or above, or a BMI between 27 and 30 with at least one weight-related condition. Examples include high blood pressure, high cholesterol, obstructive sleep apnoea, cardiovascular disease, prediabetes or type 2 diabetes.¹

It must be used alongside a reduced-calorie diet and increased physical activity. A prescriber will assess your BMI, medical history and current medicines before deciding whether it is suitable for you.¹¹

06 · Using an existing prescription

If you already have a prescription in your hand

If you already hold a Mounjaro prescription, your next step is to confirm that the pharmacy will dispense it. Pharmacies are not obliged to accept every private prescription, and they check it is complete and valid before supplying. Ring ahead and ask three things: do you stock my dose, will you accept a prescription from this prescriber, and how long will it take?

How to check a pharmacy is genuine

Check that the pharmacy is on the GPhC register before you send money or a prescription. Every legitimate UK pharmacy has a registration number, and you can look it up on the GPhC register entry for EverydayMeds (9012878).¹²

Be wary of any seller offering to supply Mounjaro without a consultation or prescription. Counterfeit and unregulated weight-loss injections have been the subject of MHRA alerts, and a fake pen can be dangerous. Warning signs include social-media sellers, prices far below those you see elsewhere, and no clinical questions at all.⁷

09 · What to expect from treatment

What to expect once your prescription is filled

Mounjaro is a once-weekly injection supplied as a pre-filled multi-dose KwikPen in six strengths: 2.5mg, 5mg, 7.5mg, 10mg, 12.5mg and 15mg.¹ Follow the pen's instructions for use in the patient information leaflet.¹³

In the SURMOUNT-1 trial of 2,539 adults, people taking tirzepatide alongside diet and exercise lost on average 15% of their body weight on 5mg, 19.5% on 10mg and 20.9% on 15mg over 72 weeks, compared with 3.1% with lifestyle changes alone. For someone starting at 100 kg, 20.9% is about 21 kg. These are trial averages, and individual results vary.²
