01 · Your options
NHS or private: which route can you use?
The NHS route is open to you if you meet the NHS criteria, but access is being phased in over several years. NICE recommends Mounjaro for adults with a BMI of at least 35 plus at least one weight-related condition. The NHS primary-care rollout began in June 2025 with the highest-need groups first, initially BMI 40+ with four or more qualifying conditions.46 Full rollout is expected to take years, so ask your GP where your area stands.
The private route follows the licence rather than the phased NHS criteria. Mounjaro is licensed for adults with a BMI of 30 or above, or between 27 and 30 with at least one weight-related condition such as high blood pressure, high cholesterol, sleep apnoea, cardiovascular disease, prediabetes or type 2 diabetes. How to get a Mounjaro prescription with us

03 · What to expect
What you are prescribed and how it works
Mounjaro is the brand name for tirzepatide, a once-weekly injection made by Eli Lilly, licensed in the UK for weight management in adults and for type 2 diabetes. It comes in a pre-filled KwikPen in six strengths from 2.5mg to 15mg.1
In the SURMOUNT-1 trial of 2,539 adults, people taking tirzepatide alongside diet and exercise lost on average 15% of body weight on 5mg, 19.5% on 10mg and 20.9% on 15mg over 72 weeks, compared with 3.1% with lifestyle changes alone. These are trial averages and individual results vary.2
Everyone starts on 2.5mg weekly. After at least 4 weeks the dose rises to 5mg, then can step up by 2.5mg at minimum 4-week intervals to a maximum of 15mg, depending on response and tolerance.1 Read more in our guide on getting a weight-loss prescription.
04 · Staying safe
Avoiding fake pens and unsafe sellers
Only use a pharmacy you can verify on the GPhC register. The MHRA has seized thousands of fake weight-loss pens in the UK, and fake pens have caused hospitalisations, some containing insulin rather than tirzepatide.7 Never buy from social media, beauty salons or unverified websites. Genuine treatment always involves a prescription and a clinical consultation.
