What to know
before you start.

  • A prescriber checks your BMI, medical history and current medicines before deciding.

In this guide

01 · The answer

Do you need a prescription for Mounjaro?

Yes. Mounjaro is a once-weekly injectable prescription medicine made by Eli Lilly, and it is supplied only after a prescriber has assessed you.1 There is no over-the-counter version, and a pharmacist cannot sell it without a valid prescription.

Anyone offering to supply it without a consultation or prescription is not operating legally, and the product may be counterfeit. Check any pharmacy on the GPhC register and report suspected side effects or suspect products through the Yellow Card scheme.7

02 · Getting it

How to get a Mounjaro prescription

You have two routes: the NHS or regulated private treatment. For private treatment, our Mounjaro prescription guide covers the detail. In short:

  • Free online consultation: a short health questionnaire, no charge and no obligation.
  • Prescriber review: reviewed by a GPhC-registered prescriber. Payment is taken when you place the order; if the prescriber decides the treatment is not suitable, the order is refunded automatically in full.
  • Dispatch and delivery: same-day dispatch when ordered by 3pm, then free next-day tracked delivery.

You can start your free consultation or view the Mounjaro pen prices. Every later order is £25 off the standard price (code DOSE25). We source through official LillyDirect supply, and our prescription pharmacy page explains more.

03 · Who is it licensed for

Who Mounjaro is licensed for

Mounjaro contains tirzepatide and is licensed in the UK for weight management in adults and for type 2 diabetes. It comes as a pre-filled KwikPen in six strengths: 2.5mg, 5mg, 7.5mg, 10mg, 12.5mg and 15mg.1

For weight management, it is licensed for adults with a BMI of 30 or above, or a BMI between 27 and 30 with at least one weight-related condition such as high blood pressure, high cholesterol, obstructive sleep apnoea, cardiovascular disease, prediabetes or type 2 diabetes. It must be used alongside a reduced-calorie diet and increased physical activity.1 See the prescription dosage guide for strengths.

04 · NHS or private

NHS or private prescription

Mounjaro is available on the NHS, but access is being phased in over several years. NICE recommends it for adults with a BMI of at least 35 plus at least one weight-related condition, and the primary-care rollout began in June 2025 with the highest-need groups first, initially BMI 40+ with four or more qualifying conditions.46

Full rollout is expected to take years, which is why many people who meet the licensed criteria choose regulated private treatment.

05 · What to expect

What to expect from treatment

Tirzepatide activates two gut-hormone receptors, GIP and GLP-1, which helps regulate appetite and slows stomach emptying. Most people feel fuller sooner and less hungry between meals.1

In SURMOUNT-1 (2,539 adults), people lost on average 15% of body weight on 5mg, 19.5% on 10mg and 20.9% on 15mg over 72 weeks, versus 3.1% with lifestyle changes alone. These are trial averages and individual results vary.2

How ordering works

How ordering works at EverydayMeds

Three steps, with our pharmacy team alongside you.

  1. EverydayMeds online consultation on a mobile phone

    Step 1: Online consultation — 5–10 minutes

Complete a confidential health questionnaire covering BMI, medical history and current medication. No payment is taken until you're approved.

  2. A clinician ready to review an online consultation

Step 2: Prescriber review — usually same day

A UK registered prescriber checks your suitability against the licensed criteria (BMI ≥30, or ≥27 with a weight-related condition) and contraindications, and confirms your starting dose.

  3. An EverydayMeds delivery box

    Step 3: Next-day tracked delivery

Dispensed by our GPhC-registered pharmacy in temperature-controlled packaging with needles and a sharps bin included. Orders approved by 3pm for next-day tracked delivery.

Start your free consultation

Prescription and dispatch follow clinical approval. Confirm current delivery options when ordering.

Afterwards you're not on your own: dose-change reviews are built in before each step up, our pharmacist team is available for side-effect questions, and repeat orders re-check suitability rather than auto-shipping.

Your questions, answered

Mounjaro price UK — frequently asked questions

Answers to common questions about Mounjaro prices, NHS access and ongoing treatment.

Ask our pharmacy team
Can I buy Mounjaro over the counter?
No. Mounjaro (tirzepatide) is a prescription-only medicine in the UK, so it cannot be bought over the counter. It is supplied only after a consultation reviewed by a GPhC-registered prescriber. Be wary of anyone offering it without a consultation or prescription, as the product may be counterfeit.
Do you need a prescription for Mounjaro?
Yes. A prescriber must assess your BMI, medical history and current medicines before deciding whether Mounjaro is suitable. You can get this through the NHS or a regulated online pharmacy. Our Mounjaro prescription page explains the process step by step.
Can my pharmacist prescribe me Mounjaro?
A pharmacist can only dispense Mounjaro against a valid prescription. At EverydayMeds, your free online consultation is reviewed by a GPhC-registered prescriber, and our registered pharmacy then dispenses the pen if you are approved. Unsuitable orders are refunded automatically.
Why won't my doctor prescribe Mounjaro?
NHS access is being phased in over several years. NICE recommends it for adults with a BMI of at least 35 plus a weight-related condition, and the rollout began with the highest-need groups first. If you fall outside the current stage, regulated private treatment is an option.
How much is Mounjaro at Boots?
Across the UK pharmacies we track, Boots' Mounjaro dose prices run from £179.00 to £339.00 per month, as of 12 October 2026. Our standard 2.5mg pen is £169.99.
What is the cheapest price for Mounjaro in the UK?
Across the UK pharmacies we track, the cheapest Mounjaro pen at any dose is £143.96 per month and the dearest is £339.00, checked 12 October 2026. See our lowest price guide for how to compare.
What should I avoid while taking Mounjaro?
Tell your prescriber about all your medicines. Mounjaro slows stomach emptying, which can reduce how well oral contraceptive pills are absorbed. The SmPC advises switching to a non-oral method, or adding a barrier method (such as condoms), for 4 weeks after starting Mounjaro and for 4 weeks after each dose increase.1 Insulin or sulfonylurea doses may need adjusting because of low blood sugar risk.
How quickly does Mounjaro work?
Most people feel fuller sooner and less hungry between meals, which supports a reduced-calorie diet. Weight-loss figures come from SURMOUNT-1, where average loss was measured over 72 weeks; individual results vary.
