In this guide

01 · The short answer

Can you get Mounjaro on a private prescription?

Yes. Mounjaro is a prescription-only medicine, and a UK prescriber can prescribe it privately when it is clinically suitable. You do not have to wait for NHS access. The weight loss prescription guide explains the wider picture.

Mounjaro is licensed for weight management in adults with a BMI of 30 or above, or a BMI between 27 and 30 with at least one weight-related condition such as high blood pressure, high cholesterol, obstructive sleep apnoea, cardiovascular disease, prediabetes or type 2 diabetes. It must be used alongside a reduced-calorie diet and increased physical activity.1 A prescriber assesses your BMI, medical history and current medicines before deciding.11

02 · Step by step

How to get a private prescription for Mounjaro

You can do it entirely online in four steps. Start with our free consultation.

  • Free online consultation: a short health questionnaire, no charge and no obligation.
  • Prescriber review: a GPhC-registered prescriber reviews your answers, not a scoring script. Payment is taken when you place the order; if the prescriber decides the treatment is not suitable, the order is refunded automatically in full.
  • Dispensing and dispatch: our registered pharmacy dispenses your pen, with same-day dispatch when ordered by 3pm.
  • Delivery: free next-day tracked delivery in discreet, temperature-controlled packaging. Saturday delivery is £14.99.

Needles, a sharps bin and injection guidance come with every order. Ready to start? See the Mounjaro pen prices and consultation page, or our Buy Mounjaro hub.

03 · Cost

What a private prescription costs

The consultation is free, and the price shown is the price paid, with no hidden fees. A 2.5mg pen (four weekly doses) is £169.99 at standard price. A new customer's first order, at any dose, is £40 less with code FIRST40, and every later order is £25 less (code DOSE25). Switching from another provider at a higher dose still gets the first-order discount; your first 15mg pen would be £289.99.

If you step up after 4 weeks on each dose, your first four pens (2.5mg to 10mg) cost £959.96 at standard prices. A first year costs £2,711.88 if you settle at 5mg, up to £3,599.88 at 15mg, before discounts. Across the UK pharmacies we track, the cheapest and dearest Mounjaro pens run from £143.96 to £339.00 per month (checked 10 October 2026). See the private prescription cost guide and our discount code guide. Payment is by Visa/Mastercard, Klarna or pay-monthly options, with no subscriptions.

04 · Who qualifies

Who can get a private prescription?

Adults who meet the licensed criteria and whom a prescriber judges suitable. That means a BMI of 30 or above, or 27 to 30 with a weight-related condition.1 Your medical history and current medicines are reviewed as part of the decision, and the prescriber may decline if Mounjaro is not right for you.11

Wondering about a formal diagnosis first? Read whether you can get a private GLP-1 diagnosis. Mounjaro is a medicine used alongside diet and activity, not instead of them.

05 · NHS or private

NHS or private: which route?

Mounjaro is available on the NHS, but access is being phased in over several years. NICE recommends it for adults with a BMI of at least 35 plus at least one weight-related condition, and the primary-care rollout began in June 2025 with the highest-need groups first, initially BMI 40+ with four or more qualifying conditions.46 Full rollout is expected to take years, which is why many people who meet the licensed criteria choose regulated private treatment rather than waiting.

Compare the routes in Mounjaro private prescription vs NHS or read about how private and NHS care interact. People with type 2 diabetes should ask their GP or diabetes team about NHS options.

06 · What to expect

What to expect once prescribed

Everyone starts on 2.5mg once a week. This starting dose is about letting your body adjust, not about weight loss itself. After at least 4 weeks the dose increases to 5mg, then can step up by 2.5mg at minimum 4-week intervals to a maximum of 15mg weekly. Many people settle at 5mg, 10mg or 15mg, and higher is not automatically better.1

In SURMOUNT-1 (2,539 adults), people taking tirzepatide alongside diet and exercise lost on average 15% of body weight on 5mg, 19.5% on 10mg and 20.9% on 15mg over 72 weeks, versus 3.1% with lifestyle changes alone. These are trial averages and individual results vary.2 For someone starting at 100 kg, 20.9% is about 21 kg.

Progress is gradual: think in months, not days. If you have lost less than 5% of your starting weight after 6 months on the highest dose you can tolerate, your prescriber will discuss whether to continue, adjust or stop.11 Mild nausea, altered appetite and tiredness in the first days after each injection are the commonest early effects and usually settle.13 Serious side effects are uncommon but need urgent attention. Seek immediate medical help for: severe, persistent stomach pain that may spread to your back, with or without vomiting (possible pancreatitis); pain in the upper right abdomen, fever or yellowing of skin/eyes (possible gallbladder problems); or signs of a severe allergic reaction such as swelling of the face or throat and difficulty breathing.

07 · Staying safe

Buying safely and avoiding counterfeits

Only use a pharmacy you can check on the GPhC register; ours is registration 9012878.12 Be wary of sellers offering to supply without a consultation or prescription: counterfeit medicine alerts are published by the MHRA.7 We supply genuine KwikPens through official LillyDirect supply, direct from Eli Lilly's UK distribution.

Looking elsewhere? Compounded products are a different matter, covered in our tirzepatide compound guide. For other options, see GLP-1 private prescriptions.

08 · Aftercare

Support after your first order

Treatment does not end at delivery. Ongoing monthly reviews, dose titration and follow-up assessments are carried out by the prescribing team, with side-effect support. Repeat orders re-check suitability, and nothing ships automatically. Support runs Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm, by email at support@everydaymeds.co.uk, account portal chat or phone on 0333 207 0413. Our free GLPTrackr app helps you track your journey. Mounjaro is a prescription-only medicine supplied after a consultation reviewed by a GPhC-registered prescriber; this page is information, not a substitute for medical advice.

How ordering works

How ordering works at EverydayMeds

Three steps, with our pharmacy team alongside you.

  1. EverydayMeds online consultation on a mobile phone

Complete a confidential health questionnaire covering BMI, medical history and current medication. No payment is taken until you're approved.

  2. A clinician ready to review an online consultation

Step 2: Prescriber review — usually same day

A UK registered prescriber checks your suitability against the licensed criteria (BMI ≥30, or ≥27 with a weight-related condition) and contraindications, and confirms your starting dose.

  3. An EverydayMeds delivery box

    Step 3: Next-day tracked delivery

Dispensed by our GPhC-registered pharmacy in temperature-controlled packaging with needles and a sharps bin included. Orders approved by 3pm for next-day tracked delivery.

Your questions, answered

Mounjaro price UK — frequently asked questions

Answers to common questions about Mounjaro prices, NHS access and ongoing treatment.

Ask our pharmacy team
Can you get Mounjaro on private prescription in the UK?
Yes. After a free online consultation, a GPhC-registered prescriber reviews your health details and prescribes Mounjaro if it is suitable. Licensed use needs a BMI of 30 or above, or 27 to 30 with a weight-related condition. You do not need a GP referral.
How do I get a private prescription for Mounjaro?
Complete our free online consultation, then a GPhC-registered prescriber reviews it. Payment is taken when you place the order; if the prescriber decides the treatment is not suitable, the order is refunded automatically in full. Approved orders are dispensed by our registered pharmacy, with same-day dispatch when ordered by 3pm and free next-day tracked delivery.
Can you take a private prescription to any pharmacy in the UK?
Often, but not always. Pharmacies decide whether to dispense a private prescription, and some may not stock Mounjaro or may not accept prescriptions from elsewhere. Checking first saves a wasted trip. With us, the prescription and dispensing are handled together by our registered pharmacy.
Can diabetics get Mounjaro on the NHS?
Mounjaro is licensed for type 2 diabetes in the UK, and NICE has a separate appraisal for that use. Availability depends on your local NHS pathway and clinical need, so ask your GP or diabetes team. Type 2 diabetes also counts as a qualifying weight-related condition for private prescribing.
Do I need a GP letter for a private Mounjaro prescription?
No GP referral is needed to start our consultation. A prescriber reviews your BMI, medical history and current medicines and decides whether Mounjaro is suitable. It is still sensible to keep your GP informed about any new medicine you take.
How much does a private Mounjaro prescription cost?
The consultation is free. A 2.5mg pen is £169.99 at standard price, and a new customer's first order is £40 less with code FIRST40. Every later order is £25 off the standard price. Prices checked 10 October 2026.
Is NHS Mounjaro available instead?
Yes, but access is being phased in over several years. NICE recommends it for adults with a BMI of at least 35 plus a weight-related condition, and the primary-care rollout began in June 2025 with the highest-need groups first. Many people who meet the licensed criteria choose private treatment rather than waiting.
