A quick overview

What to know
before you start.

  • Your NHS GP can prescribe Mounjaro, but NHS access is being phased in over several years.
  • The NHS primary-care rollout began in June 2025, initially for BMI 40+ with four or more qualifying conditions.
  • Private prescribing follows the licence: BMI 30+, or 27–30 with a weight-related condition.
  • A GPhC-registered prescriber reviews every online consultation, which is free.
  • Specialists do not need to be involved for most people; a prescriber assesses BMI, history and medicines.
In this guide

01 · Your options

NHS GP or private prescriber: which route?

Your NHS GP is the first route, but access depends on the phased rollout. Mounjaro is available on the NHS, and NICE recommends it for adults with a BMI of at least 35 plus at least one weight-related condition. The primary-care rollout began in June 2025 with the highest-need groups first, initially BMI 40+ with four or more qualifying conditions.46 Full rollout is expected to take years, which is why many people who meet the licensed criteria choose regulated private treatment rather than waiting.

RouteWho prescribesWho it suits
NHSYour GP or local primary care serviceHighest-need groups first, under NICE criteria
Private, onlineGPhC-registered prescriberAdults meeting the licensed criteria (BMI 30+, or 27–30 with a condition)

If you are unsure where you stand, read whether your own doctor can prescribe it, or how to raise it with your GP.

02 · Private

Getting a private prescription

A private prescriber must be registered with the GPhC or another UK regulator, and it should be a clinician, not a scoring script. Payment is taken when you place the order; if the prescriber decides the treatment is not suitable, the order is refunded automatically in full. Read more about whether a private doctor can prescribe Mounjaro.

Ordering takes three steps: complete the free online consultation, wait for prescriber review, then receive free next-day tracked delivery, with same-day dispatch when ordered by 3pm. Your first 2.5mg pen costs £129.99 with code FIRST40 (standard price £169.99), and every later order is £25 off the standard price. Start your free consultation when ready.

03 · Licensed eligibility

Who Mounjaro is licensed for

Mounjaro is licensed for weight management in adults with a BMI of 30 or above, or a BMI between 27 and 30 with at least one weight-related condition such as high blood pressure, high cholesterol, obstructive sleep apnoea, cardiovascular disease, prediabetes or type 2 diabetes. It must be used alongside a reduced-calorie diet and increased physical activity.1 A prescriber will assess your BMI, medical history and current medicines before deciding whether it is suitable.11

04 · What it is

What you would be prescribed

Mounjaro is the brand name for tirzepatide, a once-weekly injectable prescription medicine made by Eli Lilly. It is licensed in the UK for weight management in adults and for type 2 diabetes, and comes as a multi-dose KwikPen in six strengths: 2.5mg, 5mg, 7.5mg, 10mg, 12.5mg and 15mg.1

In the SURMOUNT-1 trial of 2,539 adults, people taking tirzepatide alongside diet and exercise lost on average 15% of body weight on 5mg, 19.5% on 10mg and 20.9% on 15mg over 72 weeks, compared with 3.1% with lifestyle changes alone. These are trial averages and individual results vary.2

05 · Other clinicians

What about other clinicians?

Not every healthcare professional prescribes it. Ask whether any doctor can prescribe Mounjaro, or whether dentists can prescribe it. For the weight-loss indication specifically, see whether your doctor can prescribe Mounjaro for weight loss. You can also browse all weight loss treatments or buy Mounjaro through our pharmacy, supplied via official LillyDirect supply.

Mounjaro is a prescription-only medicine, supplied only after an online consultation reviewed by a GPhC-registered prescriber. This page is information, not a substitute for medical advice.

06 · Serious side effects

Serious side effects: when to get help straight away

Serious side effects are uncommon but need urgent attention. Seek immediate medical help for: severe, persistent stomach pain that may spread to your back, with or without vomiting (possible pancreatitis); pain in the upper right abdomen, fever or yellowing of skin/eyes (possible gallbladder problems); or signs of a severe allergic reaction such as swelling of the face or throat and difficulty breathing. If you take insulin or a sulfonylurea alongside Mounjaro, watch for low blood sugar (shakiness, sweating, confusion) — your prescriber may need to adjust those medicines.1

How ordering works

How ordering works at EverydayMeds

Three steps, with our pharmacy team alongside you.

  1. EverydayMeds online consultation on a mobile phone

    Step 1: Online consultation — 5–10 minutes

Complete a confidential health questionnaire covering BMI, medical history and current medication. No payment is taken until you're approved.

  2. A clinician ready to review an online consultation

Step 2: Prescriber review — usually same day

A UK registered prescriber checks your suitability against the licensed criteria (BMI ≥30, or ≥27 with a weight-related condition) and contraindications, and confirms your starting dose.

  3. An EverydayMeds delivery box

    Step 3: Next-day tracked delivery

Dispensed by our GPhC-registered pharmacy in temperature-controlled packaging with needles and a sharps bin included. Orders approved by 3pm for next-day tracked delivery.

Your questions, answered

Mounjaro price UK — frequently asked questions

Answers to common questions about Mounjaro prices, NHS access and ongoing treatment.

Ask our pharmacy team
What kind of doctor can prescribe Mounjaro?
An NHS GP can prescribe Mounjaro under NHS criteria, and a GPhC-registered prescriber can prescribe it privately if you meet the licensed criteria. Most people do not need a specialist; the prescriber assesses your BMI, medical history and current medicines first.
Can I buy Mounjaro online?
Yes, from a regulated UK online pharmacy after a consultation reviewed by a GPhC-registered prescriber. It is prescription-only, so anyone offering to supply without a consultation or prescription should be avoided. Payment is taken when you place the order; if the prescriber decides the treatment is not suitable, the order is refunded automatically in full.
Can I get a prescription online without seeing a doctor?
A legitimate online service still involves a clinician. With us, a short health questionnaire is reviewed by a GPhC-registered prescriber, not a scoring script. Payment is taken when you place the order; if the prescriber decides the treatment is not suitable, the order is refunded automatically in full.
Who cannot take Mounjaro?
You should not take Mounjaro if you are allergic to tirzepatide or any of its ingredients, and it should not be used during pregnancy or while trying to conceive. Mounjaro is licensed for adults with a BMI of 30 or above, or 27–30 with a weight-related condition. Your prescriber will take extra care, or may recommend against treatment, if you have a history of pancreatitis, severe gut or digestive disease, diabetic retinopathy, or gallbladder problems. Always share your full medical history and medicine list during consultation. Mounjaro must not be used during pregnancy, and it should be stopped at least one month before trying to conceive. If you become pregnant during treatment, stop the medicine and tell your prescriber promptly.
Is Mounjaro available on the NHS?
Yes, but access is being phased in over several years. NICE recommends it for adults with a BMI of at least 35 plus a weight-related condition, and the rollout began in June 2025 with the highest-need groups first. Ask your GP about your position.
What are the common side effects of Mounjaro?
The most common side effects, affecting more than 1 in 10 people, are nausea, diarrhoea, vomiting, constipation and abdominal discomfort. Seek immediate medical help for severe, persistent stomach pain that may spread to your back, pain in the upper right abdomen with fever or yellowing of the skin or eyes, or signs of a severe allergic reaction. Discuss any new symptoms with your prescriber, and report suspected side effects through the MHRA Yellow Card scheme. Our prescribing team offers side-effect support during monthly reviews.
How do I get my doctor to prescribe Mounjaro?
Book an appointment and ask whether you meet the NHS criteria. Bring your BMI and any weight-related conditions. NHS access is phased, so your GP may say you do not yet qualify; a regulated private prescriber is the alternative if you meet the licensed criteria.
