Can Your Doctor Prescribe Mounjaro for Weight Loss? (October 2026)

before you start.

  • The licence is wider than NHS criteria: BMI 30+, or 27–30 with a weight-related condition.

  • Your first 2.5mg pen costs £129.99 with code FIRST40 (standard price £169.99).

01 · Your options

Will my doctor prescribe Mounjaro on the NHS?

Your GP can prescribe it only if you fit current NHS criteria, because access is being phased in over several years. NICE recommends Mounjaro for adults with a BMI of at least 35 plus at least one weight-related condition. The primary-care rollout began in June 2025 with the highest-need groups first, initially BMI 40+ with four or more qualifying conditions.46

If you do not yet fit your area's stage, your GP is not refusing you personally. Full rollout is expected to take years. See our guide on how to raise it with your doctor.

RouteWho it suitsCriteria
NHS GPHighest-need groups firstBMI 35+ plus a weight-related condition (NICE); rollout begins at BMI 40+ with four or more conditions
Private prescriberAdults who meet the licenceBMI 30+, or 27–30 with a weight-related condition

The licensed criteria are wider than the NHS rollout stage, which is why many people who qualify choose regulated private treatment rather than waiting.1

02 · Private prescribing

Getting a prescription privately

You can start with a free online consultation, reviewed by a GPhC-registered prescriber, not a scoring script. Payment is taken when you place the order; if the prescriber decides the treatment is not suitable, the order is refunded automatically in full.

If approved, your order is dispensed by our registered pharmacy using official LillyDirect supply, with same-day dispatch when ordered by 3pm and free next-day tracked delivery. All six doses are in stock. Your first 2.5mg pen costs £129.99 with code FIRST40, and every later order is £25 off the standard price (code DOSE25). Ongoing monthly reviews are included. You can see all options at Buy Mounjaro.

03 · Who is eligible

Licensed eligibility for weight loss

Mounjaro is licensed for weight management in adults with a BMI of 30 or above, or a BMI between 27 and 30 with at least one weight-related condition. Examples include high blood pressure, high cholesterol, obstructive sleep apnoea, cardiovascular disease, prediabetes or type 2 diabetes.1

It must be used alongside a reduced-calorie diet and increased physical activity. A prescriber will assess your BMI, medical history and current medicines before deciding whether it is suitable. Read more on whether your doctor can prescribe Mounjaro, or which kind of doctor can.

04 · What to expect

What results look like

In the SURMOUNT-1 trial of 2,539 adults, people taking tirzepatide alongside diet and exercise lost on average 15% of body weight on 5mg, 19.5% on 10mg and 20.9% on 15mg over 72 weeks, compared with 3.1% with lifestyle changes alone. These are trial averages, and individual results vary.2

For someone starting at 100 kg, 20.9% is about 21 kg. Treatment works alongside a reduced-calorie diet and increased physical activity, not instead of them.

05 · How it works

How Mounjaro works

Tirzepatide activates two natural gut-hormone receptors at once: GIP and GLP-1. Together these help regulate appetite, slow how quickly the stomach empties and improve the body's response to insulin. Most people feel fuller sooner and less hungry between meals.1

It is a once-weekly pre-filled KwikPen in six strengths from 2.5mg to 15mg.

06 · Safe supply

Buying safely

Only obtain Mounjaro from a GPhC-registered pharmacy after a prescriber's review. Be wary of any seller offering to supply without a consultation or prescription, as counterfeit alerts have been issued by the MHRA.7 Our pens are genuine KwikPens, as explained in our authentic Mounjaro guide. Registration: GPhC 9012878.

How ordering works

How ordering works at EverydayMeds

Three steps, with our pharmacy team alongside you.

  1. EverydayMeds online consultation on a mobile phone

    Step 1: Online consultation — 5–10 minutes

Complete a confidential health questionnaire covering BMI, medical history and current medication. No payment is taken until you're approved.

  2. A clinician ready to review an online consultation

Step 2: Prescriber review — usually same day

A UK registered prescriber checks your suitability against the licensed criteria (BMI ≥30, or ≥27 with a weight-related condition) and contraindications, and confirms your starting dose.

  3. An EverydayMeds delivery box

    Step 3: Next-day tracked delivery

Dispensed by our GPhC-registered pharmacy in temperature-controlled packaging with needles and a sharps bin included. Orders approved by 3pm for next-day tracked delivery.

Start your free consultation

Prescription and dispatch follow clinical approval. Confirm current delivery options when ordering.

Afterwards you're not on your own: dose-change reviews are built in before each step up, our pharmacist team is available for side-effect questions, and repeat orders re-check suitability rather than auto-shipping.

Your questions, answered

Mounjaro price UK — frequently asked questions

Answers to common questions about Mounjaro prices, NHS access and ongoing treatment.

Ask our pharmacy team
Can I get Mounjaro from my GP?
Possibly, if you meet NHS criteria. NICE recommends it for adults with a BMI of at least 35 plus a weight-related condition, and the rollout began in June 2025 with the highest-need groups first. Access is phased over several years, so ask your GP where your area stands.
Will my doctor prescribe Mounjaro for weight loss?
It depends on your BMI, health conditions and local NHS rollout stage. Your GP can only prescribe on the NHS within those criteria. If you meet the licensed criteria but not the NHS stage, a private prescriber can assess you instead.
Can my doctor prescribe tirzepatide for weight loss?
Yes. Tirzepatide is the active ingredient in Mounjaro, which is licensed in the UK for weight management in adults. A prescriber assesses your BMI, medical history and current medicines before deciding whether it is suitable.
Can my doctor prescribe me something to lose weight?
Yes, if a prescription medicine is suitable for you. For Mounjaro, the licence covers a BMI of 30 or above, or 27 to 30 with a weight-related condition, alongside a reduced-calorie diet and increased activity.
What if my GP says no?
It may mean you are not yet within the phased NHS rollout, which is expected to take years. If you meet the licensed criteria, you can have a free online consultation reviewed by a GPhC-registered prescriber instead.
How much does private Mounjaro cost?
A 2.5mg pen has a standard price of £169.99, and a new customer's first order is £40 off with code FIRST40. Every later order is £25 off the standard price. Prices checked 10 October 2026.
Do I need a GP letter to order privately?
No. Our free online consultation is reviewed by a GPhC-registered prescriber, who assesses your BMI, medical history and current medicines. Payment is taken when you place the order; if the prescriber decides the treatment is not suitable, the order is refunded automatically in full.
