Which weight loss injections can you get in the UK right now?

Regulated UK pharmacies supply two main once-weekly weight loss injections: Mounjaro (tirzepatide) and Wegovy (semaglutide). Both need a prescription, so availability always depends on a consultation as well as on the pharmacy's shelves. We only speak for our own supply: all six Mounjaro doses are in stock and come from official LillyDirect supply, which means Mounjaro direct from Eli Lilly's UK distribution.

Be wary of any page that simply declares every weight loss injection is available everywhere. Availability varies by provider and by dose, and a pharmacy that says it has stock should still be assessing you before it supplies anything. If a seller offers to supply without a consultation or prescription, walk away.

What does Mounjaro cost, and how do the discounts work?

The standard price of one 2.5mg pen (four weeks) is £169.99, and the 5mg pen is £189.99. Higher strengths are £244.99 (7.5mg), £274.99 (10mg), £289.99 (12.5mg) and £299.99 (15mg). Each of these is a monthly figure for one pen, and the standard price is what a repeat order is priced at before the reorder discount.

Two discounts apply. New customers save £40 on their first order at any dose with code FIRST40, including people switching to us from another provider at a higher dose. After that, every future order gets an automatic £25 off (code DOSE25). So your first 2.5mg pen costs £129.99 with the code, and if you are switching at 15mg, your first order is £259.99. What does a first year of treatment add up to?

Most people think in months, but it helps to see the larger picture. The table uses standard prices before any discount. A new customer's first order is £40 less, and every later order is £25 less than the standard price.

05 · Buying safely

Where can you buy weight loss injections in the UK safely?

The safest place to buy is a pharmacy registered with the General Pharmaceutical Council that supplies only after a prescriber has assessed you. You can check any pharmacy on the GPhC public register; ours is registration 9012878, and you can verify it directly.¹²

The MHRA publishes counterfeit medicine alerts and runs the Yellow Card scheme for reporting suspected problems.⁷ Treat these as warning signs when you shop around:

• No consultation, questionnaire or prescription before supply.
• Social media sellers, marketplaces or messaging-app offers.
• Pens sold loose, relabelled or without original packaging.
• Dramatic weight-loss claims or promises of specific results.
• A price far below what the pharmacies we track charge.

On that last point, across the UK pharmacies we track, Mounjaro pens ranged from £143.96 to £319.99 per month across all doses as of 25 October 2026. The cheapest and dearest 2.5mg starting pens were £143.96 and £179.99. The gap between providers for the same dose was between £20 and £36.03. A price well outside those figures deserves questions about where the pen came from.

06 · NHS or private

Can you get weight loss injections on the NHS?

Yes, Mounjaro is available on the NHS, but access is being phased in over several years. NICE recommends it for adults with a BMI of at least 35 plus at least one weight-related condition.⁴ The NHS primary-care rollout began in June 2025 with the highest-need groups first, initially BMI 40 and above with four or more qualifying conditions.⁶ Full rollout is expected to take years.

That is why many people who meet the licensed criteria choose regulated private treatment rather than waiting. Your GP is the best person to tell you where you sit in the local NHS queue. NHS access to Wegovy runs through specialist weight-management services, so ask your GP about that too.

07 · Who is eligible

Who can be prescribed Mounjaro for weight loss?

Mounjaro is licensed for weight management in adults with a BMI of 30 or above, or a BMI between 27 and 30 with at least one weight-related condition. Examples include high blood pressure, high cholesterol, obstructive sleep apnoea, cardiovascular disease, prediabetes or type 2 diabetes.¹ It must be used alongside a reduced-calorie diet and increased physical activity.

A prescriber assesses your BMI, medical history and current medicines before deciding whether it is suitable. Some people will not be approved, and that is how the service is meant to work. If your order is unsuitable, you are refunded automatically in full. The consultation itself is free.

Stock being in stock does not change your eligibility, so read the questions honestly and give accurate details about your health and medicines. Prescribing relies on what you tell us.

08 · Dose ladder

How do the doses work, and why do all six matter?

Everyone starts Mounjaro on 2.5mg once a week. The starting dose is about letting your body adjust, not about weight loss itself. After at least 4 weeks the dose increases to 5mg, and can then step up by 2.5mg at minimum 4-week intervals (7.5mg, 10mg, 12.5mg) up to a maximum of 15mg weekly, depending on how you respond and tolerate it.¹

This is why a provider needs every dose available, not only the starting pen. Someone who is part-way through titration needs the next strength on time.

Many people settle at a maintenance dose of 5mg, 10mg or 15mg, and your prescriber guides the pace.

09 · Using your pen

How do you inject, store and travel with the pen?

Mounjaro is injected under the skin once a week, on the same day each week, at any time of day, with or without food. Licensed sites are the stomach area (at least 5cm from the belly button), the front of the thigh, or the back of the upper arm if someone else gives the injection. Rotate the site with each dose.¹³ There is no best time of day, so pick a day you will remember. Many people choose a weekend morning so early side effects fall on days off.

If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you can within 4 days (96 hours) of the scheduled time. If more than 4 days have passed, skip it and take the next on your normal day, and never take two doses within 3 days of each other. You can change your injection day as long as at least 3 days (72 hours) have passed since your last dose.¹³

Keep pens in a fridge at 2–8°C and never freeze them. Once in use, a pen can be kept out of the fridge not above 30°C for up to 30 days, after which it should be discarded. Keep the cap on to protect it from light.¹ You can fly with Mounjaro: carry pens in hand luggage, ideally in a cool bag with the prescription label. Unopened pens keep until the printed expiry date. If an unopened pen has been out of the fridge, check with the pharmacy before using it.¹³

10 · Realistic results

What results can you realistically expect?

Weight loss on Mounjaro is gradual by design, so think in months, not days. In the SURMOUNT-1 trial of 2,539 adults, people taking tirzepatide alongside diet and exercise lost on average 15% of their body weight on 5mg, 19.5% on 10mg and 20.9% on 15mg over 72 weeks, compared with 3.1% with lifestyle changes alone.² These are trial averages and individual results vary. For someone starting at 100 kg, 20.9% is about 21 kg.

At 72 weeks, 85% of participants on 5mg, 89% on 10mg and 91% on 15mg had lost at least 5% of their body weight. Half of participants on 10mg and 57% on 15mg lost at least 20%.² Trial averages do not predict your own result.

The first weeks on 2.5mg are an adjustment phase and losses are usually modest. Some people notice appetite change in week one, others feel little until a higher dose, and both are normal. Early loss includes water weight, so judge progress by trend rather than single weigh-ins. Mild nausea, altered appetite and tiredness in the first days after each injection are the commonest early effects and usually settle.¹

11 · Other injections

How does Mounjaro compare with Wegovy and daily injections?

Mounjaro activates two gut-hormone receptors, GIP and GLP-1, which together help regulate appetite, slow how quickly the stomach empties and improve how the body responds to insulin. This dual action distinguishes it from single-action GLP-1 medicines such as semaglutide (Wegovy).¹

Wegovy pens come in 0.25mg, 0.5mg, 1mg, 1.7mg and 2.4mg once-weekly strengths. The dose steps up after at least 4 weeks and reaches the 2.4mg maintenance dose from week 17.¹⁸ Liraglutide products, such as Saxenda, are daily injections supplied at 6mg per millilitre, unlike the once-weekly Mounjaro and Wegovy. 12 · Stopping treatment

What happens when you stop the injection?

Tirzepatide has a half-life of about five days, so after a final dose it takes roughly 4–5 weeks to clear the system. There is no way to speed this up, and nothing needs doing while it clears.¹
