A low headline price only helps if it covers the same thing you would actually buy. Before you pick a provider, check these points in order.

04 · Cost of the dose steps

Dose steps and what a year costs

The cost of Mounjaro depends on where you settle, not only on the starting price. Mounjaro comes as a pre-filled KwikPen in six strengths: 2.5mg, 5mg, 7.5mg, 10mg, 12.5mg and 15mg.¹ Each pen delivers four weekly doses, so one pen is one month of treatment.

If you step up after 4 weeks on each dose, your first four pens (2.5mg to 10mg) cost £879.96 at standard prices. A new customer's first order is £40 less, and every later order is £25 less.

So a first year costs £2,399.88 if you settle at 5mg, up to £3,279.88 at 15mg. These are before discounts. The weekly equivalent is £42.50 at 2.5mg and £75.00 at 15mg. 05 · Why prices differ

Why Mounjaro prices differ between pharmacies

Mounjaro prices differ because pharmacies buy at different terms and choose how to bundle services. Eli Lilly raised the UK list price of Mounjaro with effect from September 2025, and the increase was steepest on the higher doses.¹⁰ Pharmacy sell prices vary because of confidential discounts, so two providers can sell the same pen at quite different prices.

Differences in what is bundled matter too. Some providers fold the consultation and delivery into the headline price. Others show a low pen price and add fees at checkout. Some advertise a first-order price built on a code that does not repeat. This is why we always ask readers to compare the second and third order, not just the first.

06 · Cheaper alternatives

Is there something equivalent to Mounjaro but cheaper?

There is no cheaper copy of Mounjaro, but there are other licensed medicines with different prices. Tirzepatide is injection-only in the UK, so there is no Mounjaro tablet. Wegovy (semaglutide 2.4mg) is the other licensed weight-management injection, and its first pen is £99.99 on a first order. See the Wegovy pen page for current prices.

Two GLP-1 weight-loss tablets are now licensed in the UK. Wegovy tablets were approved by the MHRA in June 2026, and Foundayo (orforglipron) in August 2026. They are different medicines with their own dosing and eligibility checks, and both are prescription-only. Orlistat is a tablet that blocks some dietary fat absorption and produces smaller average losses.

Trial evidence is the reason not to choose on price alone. In the SURMOUNT-5 head-to-head trial, adults on tirzepatide lost on average 20.2% of body weight over 72 weeks versus 13.7% on semaglutide 2.4mg (Wegovy). Both are effective, licensed treatments, and which suits you depends on your health profile, tolerance and prescriber advice.¹⁵

"Natural GLP-1" supplements such as berberine are low-cost supplements with no clinical oversight. They are not medicines, are not regulated for this use and have no comparable trial evidence. Ozempic is licensed for type 2 diabetes, not weight loss, and a regulated UK pharmacy will not supply it for weight loss.

07 · Saving money safely

Saving money without taking risks

The safe ways to lower your Mounjaro costs are to compare providers and use discounts you are entitled to.

Mounjaro must also not be combined with other GLP-1 medicines, unlicensed "research" peptides such as retatrutide, which has no UK licence, or compounded copies. If something promises faster results outside a licensed pathway, that is the warning sign.

08 · Spotting fake pens

Why the lowest price is not always the safest

A price far below the rest of the market is a reason for caution, not excitement. The MHRA has seized thousands of fake weight-loss pens in the UK and has issued alerts after falsified Mounjaro pens were identified. Fake pens have caused hospitalisations, and some contained insulin rather than tirzepatide.⁷

Only buy from a pharmacy you can verify on the GPhC register, never from social media, beauty salons or unverified websites. Genuine treatment always involves a prescription and a clinical consultation. Anyone offering to supply without a consultation or prescription is not a legitimate source.¹² The same check applies to any provider you have doubts about, including ones whose names you meet in comparison tables: look them up on the register.

A genuine UK Mounjaro pen comes from a registered pharmacy with a batch number and expiry date, arrives cold-chain packaged, and the solution inside is clear and colourless. Do not use a pen that has been frozen, looks cloudy or discoloured, has particles in it, is past its expiry, or has been above 30°C or out of the fridge for more than 30 days in use. If supply or packaging ever seems wrong, check the pharmacy on the register and contact it before injecting.¹³

09 · Who can get Mounjaro

Who can get Mounjaro, privately or on the NHS

Price is only relevant if you are eligible, so check that first. Mounjaro is licensed for weight management in adults with a BMI of 30 or above, or a BMI between 27 and 30 with at least one weight-related condition such as high blood pressure, high cholesterol, obstructive sleep apnoea, cardiovascular disease, prediabetes or type 2 diabetes. It must be used alongside a reduced-calorie diet and increased physical activity. A prescriber assesses your BMI, medical history and current medicines before deciding whether it is suitable.¹¹

Mounjaro is available on the NHS, but access is being phased in over several years. NICE recommends it for adults with a BMI of at least 35 plus at least one weight-related condition, and the NHS primary-care rollout began in June 2025 with the highest-need groups first, initially BMI 40+ with four or more qualifying conditions. Full rollout is expected to take years, which is why many people who meet the licensed criteria choose regulated private treatment rather than waiting.⁴⁶ If you may qualify, ask your GP what is available locally. The NHS prescription charge in England is £9.90 per item where it applies.

10 · What Mounjaro is

What is Mounjaro (tirzepatide)?

Mounjaro is the brand name for tirzepatide, a once-weekly injectable prescription medicine made by Eli Lilly. In the UK it is licensed for weight management in adults and for type 2 diabetes.¹ Tirzepatide activates two natural gut-hormone receptors at once, GIP and GLP-1. Together these help regulate appetite, slow how quickly the stomach empties, and improve the way the body responds to insulin. Most people feel fuller sooner and less hungry between meals.

In the SURMOUNT-1 trial of 2,539 adults, people taking tirzepatide alongside diet and exercise lost on average 15% of their body weight on 5mg, 19.5% on 10mg and 20.9% on 15mg over 72 weeks, compared with 3.1% with lifestyle changes alone. For someone starting at 100 kg, 20.9% is about 21 kg. These are trial averages. Individual results vary, and treatment works alongside a reduced-calorie diet and increased physical activity, not instead of them.²
