Why list prices went up, not down

Eli Lilly announced a UK list-price increase for Mounjaro on 14 August 2025, effective 1 September 2025. Pharmacy sell prices vary because of confidential discounts.

04 · Wegovy and other options

Other weight loss medicines

Wegovy (semaglutide) is a once-weekly injection with doses of 0.25mg, 0.5mg, 1mg, 1.7mg and 2.4mg; titration steps up after at least four weeks and reaches the 2.4mg maintenance dose from week 17.¹⁸ Your first Wegovy pen costs £99.99 at the starting dose, as a first-order price. Liraglutide products such as Saxenda are daily injections, unlike once-weekly Mounjaro and Wegovy; figures vary, so your prescriber can advise.

05 · NHS route

The NHS route

Mounjaro is available on the NHS, but access is being phased in over several years. NICE recommends it for adults with a BMI of at least 35 plus at least one weight-related condition, and the primary-care rollout began in June 2025 with the highest-need groups first, initially BMI 40+ with four or more qualifying conditions.⁴⁶ Full rollout is expected to take years, which is why many people who meet the licensed criteria choose regulated private treatment. Cutting cost without cutting safety

Mounjaro is licensed as a once-weekly medicine, with blood levels designed around a 7-day cycle. If cost is the concern, talk to your clinical team rather than self-adjusting.

Each KwikPen is designed and licensed to deliver exactly four weekly doses, so use the pen as designed and then dispose of it.

Very cheap offers deserve caution. The MHRA has seized thousands of fake weight-loss pens in the UK and issued alerts after falsified Mounjaro pens were identified; some fakes contained insulin rather than tirzepatide and caused hospitalisations.⁷ Only buy from a pharmacy you can verify on the GPhC register, never from social media, beauty salons or unverified websites.¹² Our Mounjaro comes through official LillyDirect supply, and a genuine pen carries a batch number and expiry date.

07 · What treatment delivers

In the SURMOUNT-1 trial of 2,539 adults, people taking tirzepatide alongside diet and exercise lost on average 15% of body weight on 5mg, 19.5% on 10mg and 20.9% on 15mg over 72 weeks, compared with 3.1% with lifestyle changes alone. For someone starting at 100 kg, 20.9% is about 21 kg. These are trial averages; individual results vary, and treatment works alongside a reduced-calorie diet and increased physical activity.²

Mounjaro is licensed for adults with a BMI of 30 or above, or 27 to 30 with at least one weight-related condition.
