How much does a private Mounjaro prescription cost?

A private Mounjaro prescription costs £169.99 per month at the 2.5mg starting dose and £189.99 at 5mg. Each pen is a four-week supply, so one pen covers four weekly injections. The price rises with the dose, up to £299.99 for the 15mg pen.

Between those two ends sit £244.99 for 7.5mg, £274.99 for 10mg and £289.99 for 12.5mg. Weekly, that works out at £42.50 at 2.5mg and £75.00 at 15mg. These are standard prices. They are what every repeat order costs before the reorder discount.

A new customer gets £40 off their first order at any dose with code FIRST40. That includes people switching to us from another provider at a higher dose. What does a year of Mounjaro cost?

A first year costs £2,399.88 if you settle at 5mg, up to £3,279.88 at 15mg. That is 52 weeks, or 13 pens, at standard prices. These totals come before discounts. A new customer's first order is £40 less, and every later order is £25 less.

Most people do not start at their final dose. Treatment begins at 2.5mg and steps up, so the early months cost less than the later ones. The table shows the planning figures.

Treatment is not fixed in advance. Your prescriber reviews your progress and tolerance and decides the right dose. 03 · NHS or private

NHS prescription cost vs private cost

On the NHS, the charge for Mounjaro is the standard prescription fee, £9.90 per item in England, but access is limited. Mounjaro is available on the NHS, but access is being phased in over several years. NICE recommends it for adults with a BMI of at least 35 plus at least one weight-related condition. The NHS primary-care rollout began in June 2025 with the highest-need groups first, initially BMI 40+ with four or more qualifying conditions.⁴⁶

The two routes are not mutually exclusive in time. Some people pay privately while they wait for NHS access. If you later move to NHS supply, speak to your clinical team about continuity rather than switching on your own.

What is included in the Mounjaro prescription price?

The price you see is the price you pay, and it covers more than the pen. The consultation is free, with no charge and no obligation. A GPhC-registered prescriber reviews your answers, rather than a scoring script. Payment is taken when you place the order; if the prescriber decides the treatment is not suitable, the order is refunded automatically in full.

Delivery is free and next-day, tracked by DPD in discreet, temperature-controlled packaging. Orders placed by 3pm are dispatched the same day. Saturday delivery is £14.99. Needles, a sharps bin and injection guidance come with every order.

Aftercare is part of the service too. The prescribing team carries out ongoing monthly reviews, dose-titration and follow-up assessments, and offers side-effect support. 05 · Why prices differ by dose

What factors influence the price of Mounjaro?

The biggest factor is the dose, because each strength is priced separately. Mounjaro comes as a pre-filled KwikPen in six strengths: 2.5mg, 5mg, 7.5mg, 10mg, 12.5mg and 15mg.¹

Finally, the dose you end up on depends on response and tolerance. In the SURMOUNT-1 trial of 2,539 adults, people taking tirzepatide alongside diet and exercise lost on average 15% of their body weight on 5mg, 19.5% on 10mg and 20.9% on 15mg over 72 weeks, compared with 3.1% with lifestyle changes alone. These are trial averages, and individual results vary.² Your prescriber chooses the dose with you.

Comparing the cost of Mounjaro with other treatments

Wegovy (semaglutide) is the closest comparison, and its first pen is £99.99 on a first order. Mounjaro and Wegovy are different medicines, so compare price alongside what suits you clinically, not price alone.

Liraglutide (Saxenda, and products such as Erly) is supplied at 6mg per millilitre and is a daily injection, unlike once-weekly Mounjaro and Wegovy. Your prescriber can advise on how it compares.

Low-cost supplements sold as "natural" alternatives, sometimes nicknamed "nature's Ozempic" or the "poor man's Ozempic", are available cheaply without assessment. They come with no clinical oversight and dosing is not standardised. They are not equivalent to a licensed prescription medicine, and their low price is not a saving.

07 · Saving money safely

How to keep Mounjaro costs down without taking risks

The safest ways to cut cost are legitimate discounts and sensible planning. Use the new-customer discount on your first order and let the reorder discount apply automatically afterwards.

Be wary of any offer far below normal pharmacy prices. The MHRA has seized thousands of fake weight-loss pens in the UK and has issued alerts after falsified Mounjaro pens were identified. Fake pens have caused hospitalisations, and some contained insulin rather than tirzepatide. Only buy from a pharmacy you can verify on the GPhC register, never from social media, beauty salons or unverified websites. Genuine treatment always involves a prescription and a clinical consultation.⁷¹²

A genuine UK pen comes from a registered pharmacy with a batch number and expiry date and arrives cold-chain packaged. The solution inside should be clear and colourless. Do not use a pen that has been frozen, looks cloudy or discoloured, has particles in it, is past its expiry or has been out of the fridge for more than 30 days, or above 30°C in use.¹³

08 · Who can be prescribed

Who can get a Mounjaro prescription?

A doctor or other prescriber can prescribe Mounjaro if it is suitable for you. For private prescribing, it is licensed for weight management in adults with a BMI of 30 or above, or a BMI between 27 and 30 with at least one weight-related condition. Examples include high blood pressure, high cholesterol, obstructive sleep apnoea, cardiovascular disease, prediabetes or type 2 diabetes. It must be used alongside a reduced-calorie diet and increased physical activity.¹ A prescriber assesses your BMI, medical history and current medicines before deciding.

Mounjaro is also licensed for type 2 diabetes, and NHS diabetes care is a separate pathway from NHS weight management.¹ Whether a person with diabetes is offered it on the NHS is a decision for their diabetes team, so ask them. Someone with diabetes who also meets the licensed weight-management criteria can still be assessed privately. Tell the prescriber about every medicine you take.
