The standard price of one 10mg pen is £274.99. That pen is four weekly doses, so it covers four weeks of treatment. The Mounjaro pen is the same genuine KwikPen at every dose. Only the strength changes the price.

04 · Where 10mg sits

Where 10mg sits on the Mounjaro dose ladder

Nobody starts on 10mg, because everyone begins Mounjaro on 2.5mg once a week.¹ That starting dose is about letting your body adjust, not about weight loss itself. After at least 4 weeks the dose rises to 5mg. It can then step up by 2.5mg at minimum 4-week intervals, through 7.5mg and 10mg, to a maximum of 15mg weekly.¹¹ This matters for price, because the 10mg pen is never your first purchase.

Mounjaro is the brand name for tirzepatide, a once-weekly injectable made by Eli Lilly. In the UK it is licensed for weight management in adults and for type 2 diabetes. It comes as a pre-filled multi-dose KwikPen in six strengths: 2.5mg, 5mg, 7.5mg, 10mg, 12.5mg and 15mg.¹ Each pen contains four weekly doses.

Many people settle at a maintenance dose of 5mg, 10mg or 15mg. Higher is not automatically better, and your prescriber guides the pace.¹ Some people reach 10mg and stay there. Others hold at 5mg or 7.5mg. A few go on to 12.5mg or 15mg. If you are researching 10mg because you have been told to expect it, check with your prescriber first. Dose is decided by your response and how well you tolerate it, not by a calendar.

The reason to understand the ladder before you chase a price is simple. A bargain 10mg pen is worth nothing to someone who has not been titrated up to it safely.

05 · Results at 10mg

What the trial data says about 10mg

In the SURMOUNT-1 trial of 2,539 adults, people taking tirzepatide alongside diet and exercise lost on average 19.5% of their body weight on 10mg over 72 weeks.² The comparison groups lost 15% on 5mg and 20.9% on 15mg, against 3.1% with lifestyle changes alone. These are trial averages. Individual results vary, and treatment works alongside a reduced-calorie diet and increased physical activity, not instead of them.

As a worked example only: for someone starting at 100 kg, 19.5% is about 19.5 kg. That is straight arithmetic from the trial average. It does not predict your own result, and your own number may be higher or lower.

At 72 weeks, 89% of participants on 10mg had lost at least 5% of their body weight, and half of the 10mg group lost at least 20%.² For comparison, 85% on 5mg and 91% on 15mg reached the 5% mark. Look at the pattern between doses, but remember the trial measured people who stayed on treatment for 72 weeks.

Pace matters as well. Weight loss on Mounjaro is gradual by design. The first weeks on 2.5mg are an adjustment phase and losses are usually modest. Most measurable progress builds from 5mg onward, month by month.¹ Think in months, not days, and judge progress by the trend rather than individual weigh-ins.

Your response is reviewed by your prescriber. If you have lost less than 5% of your starting weight after 6 months on the highest dose you can tolerate, your prescriber will discuss whether continuing or stopping is right for you.¹

Early experiences vary widely. Some people notice appetite change in week one, while others feel little until a higher dose, and both are normal. Early loss includes water weight, so the trend over weeks matters more than any single weigh-in. Mild nausea, altered appetite and tiredness in the first days after each injection are the commonest early effects and usually settle.¹

The practical point for price-shoppers is this. The trial figures describe what 10mg did for groups of people over a long period of treatment. They do not describe a single pen, so the real value of a month at 10mg depends on how your whole programme goes. That includes diet, activity and the clinical reviews that sit around the prescription.

06 · Year-cost planning

Planning the full cost, not just the 10mg month

The honest cost of treatment is the route you take, not one pen. If you step up after 4 weeks on each dose, your first four pens (2.5mg to 10mg) cost £879.96 at standard prices. A new customer's first order is £40 less, and every later order is £25 less.

Over a full year of 52 weeks, which is 13 pens, the total depends on where you settle. A first year costs £2,399.88 if you settle at 5mg, up to £3,279.88 at 15mg. Those are standard prices before any discount. If you settle at 10mg, plan on the monthly price of £274.99 per pen, less the reorder discount on every later order.

Some points are worth remembering. Your prescriber may keep you on a lower dose for longer than the minimum 4 weeks per step, which changes the total. They can also move you down the ladder if side effects are a concern. The cost of the medicine is only one part, and monthly reviews, delivery and support are included with us.

Spreading the cost can help. Klarna and pay-monthly options are available, and there is no subscription. You order a pen when you need it, and each repeat order re-checks that the treatment is still suitable. That keeps the budget flexible if your dose changes, and nobody is locked into a pack size that no longer fits.

Finally, treat the price of the pen as one input among several. A cheaper pen that is not genuine, or that arrives without a proper consultation, is not a saving.

07 · Comparing providers

Reading UK Mounjaro prices without being misled

The most useful price comparison uses one dose, one pen and one total. Across the UK pharmacies we track (checked 24 October 2026), Mounjaro pens at all doses range from £143.96 to £319.99. That range covers every strength, so it says little about 10mg specifically. The cheapest and dearest 2.5mg starting pens run from £143.96 to £179.99.

The gap between pharmacies can be large for the same dose. The smallest gap we found is £20 and the largest is £36.03. A wide spread means it is worth checking at least three providers. A narrow one means other factors, such as aftercare, delivery and trust, should decide.

When you see a price, ask these questions in order:

• Is it a first-order price or a repeat price? Introductory rates can rise sharply on the second order.
• Is it a full 4-week pen at 10mg, or a different strength?
• Are there consultation, delivery or cold-chain charges on top?
• Does the pharmacy have a GPhC registration number you can check?
• Are clinical reviews included, or do you pay again to talk to a prescriber?

You can check any pharmacy on the public GPhC register.¹² Ours is 9012878. A legitimate pharmacy is happy to be looked up. If a seller cannot give a registration number, treat that as a reason to walk away.

Be cautious with comparison charts that mix products. Mounjaro and other treatments are not interchangeable, and their costs are not comparable at face value. Mounjaro and Wegovy have been compared head to head in SURMOUNT-5, so never judge them on price alone.

Be wary of out-of-date prices too. Pricing changes, and any list you read could be months old. Our pages show the date prices were checked (24 October 2026), and the index date for market figures (24 October 2026). If a competitor does not date its prices, you cannot tell how stale they are.

Finally, search-result snippets can contain prices attributed to us that are out of date or mislabelled. If a snippet differs, trust the live page, and contact support if anything looks wrong.

08 · Counterfeit risk

Why the cheapest-looking pen can be the costliest

The MHRA has seized thousands of fake weight-loss pens in the UK and has issued alerts after falsified Mounjaro pens were identified.⁷ Fake pens have caused hospitalisations, and some contained insulin rather than tirzepatide. That is a strong reason not to chase a rock-bottom price from an unverified seller.

Only buy from a pharmacy you can verify on the GPhC register, never from social media, beauty salons or unverified websites.¹² Genuine treatment always involves a prescription and a clinical consultation. A seller offering to supply without a consultation or prescription is a warning sign in itself, whatever the price.

Genuine UK stock is supplied through Lilly's official distribution to licensed pharmacies. Every pen carries a batch number and expiry date that can be checked.¹ We supply through official LillyDirect supply, which means Mounjaro sourced directly from Eli Lilly's UK distribution.

When your pen arrives, run through this checklist:

• It comes from a registered pharmacy and shows a batch number and expiry date.
• It arrives cold-chain packaged.
• The solution inside is clear and colourless.

Do not use a pen that has been frozen, looks cloudy or discoloured, has particles in it, is past its expiry, has been above 30°C, or has been in use for more than 30 days.¹ If supply or packaging ever seems wrong, check the pharmacy on the GPhC register and contact the pharmacy before injecting.

Report suspected fakes and any side effects through the MHRA Yellow Card scheme.⁷ That helps the regulator act on falsified products and keeps other buyers safer.

Price matters, but the right comparison is between legitimate, verifiable suppliers. Among those, differences in cost are real and worth chasing. Outside that group, a saving is not a saving, because you cannot know what is in the pen. 09 · No shortcuts to save

Ways of saving that are not safe

Mounjaro is licensed as a once-weekly medicine, and its blood levels are designed around a 7-day cycle. Taking it less often to save money is unlicensed and unsafe.

10 · NHS and private

NHS or private: the honest picture

Mounjaro is available on the NHS, but access is being phased in over several years. NICE recommends it for adults with a BMI of at least 35 plus at least one weight-related condition.⁴ The NHS primary-care rollout began in June 2025 with the highest-need groups first, initially BMI 40+ with four or more qualifying conditions.⁶ Full rollout is expected to take years.

That is why many people who meet the licensed criteria choose regulated private treatment rather than waiting. If you qualify for NHS treatment sooner than expected, you can speak to your GP. Ask them where you sit in the local rollout. Private prescribing is a choice, not a requirement, and some people use it as a bridge.

On diabetes: Mounjaro is licensed for type 2 diabetes as well as weight management.¹ NICE has separate guidance on tirzepatide for type 2 diabetes. Whether you can be prescribed it on the NHS depends on your clinical situation and local services, so your diabetes team or GP is the right person to ask.

Licensed eligibility for private weight-management prescribing is a BMI of 30 or above. It is also open to a BMI between 27 and 30 with at least one weight-related condition. Examples include high blood pressure, high cholesterol, obstructive sleep apnoea, cardiovascular disease, prediabetes or type 2 diabetes. It must be used alongside a reduced-calorie diet and increased physical activity.¹ A prescriber assesses your BMI, medical history and current medicines before deciding whether it is suitable.

Tell your prescriber about every medicine you take. The medicine can reduce the absorption of oral contraceptives, because stomach emptying slows. The SmPC advises switching to a non-oral method, or adding a barrier method (such as condoms), for 4 weeks after starting Mounjaro and for 4 weeks after each dose increase.¹ If you use insulin or sulfonylureas, doses may need adjusting because of the risk of low blood sugar.⁷ These are reasons to have a proper review rather than self-prescribe from an unverified source.

The comparison is not simply NHS free versus private paid. The NHS pathway has its own eligibility rules and waiting, and the NHS prescription charge of £9.90 in England may apply for some prescriptions. Private treatment has a cost, but you choose the timing. If you pay privately, the sensible question is not only the lowest price. It is whether you get a proper consultation, a verified supply and ongoing clinical review, and our monthly reviews are part of the service.

11 · Using your pen

Using a 10mg pen: injecting, storage and travel

Mounjaro is injected under the skin once a week, on the same day each week, at any time of day, with or without food.¹ There is no best time of day. What matters is the same day each week. Many people choose a weekend morning so early side effects fall on days off.

Licensed injection sites are the stomach area, at least 5cm from the belly button, and the front of the thigh. The back of the upper arm can be used if someone else gives the injection. Rotate the site with each dose. Follow the pen's instructions and the patient information leaflet.¹³

If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you can within 4 days (96 hours) of the scheduled time, then carry on with your usual day. If more than 4 days have passed, skip the missed dose and take the next one on your normal day. Never take two doses within 3 days of each other.¹ You can change your injection day if at least 3 days (72 hours) have passed since your last dose.

Keep pens in a fridge at 2 to 8°C and never freeze them. Once in use, a pen can be kept out of the fridge not above 30°C for up to 30 days, after which it should be discarded. Keep the cap on to protect it from light, and never use a pen that has been frozen.¹

You can fly with Mounjaro. Carry pens in hand luggage, because hold luggage can fall below freezing. Ideally use a cool bag, with the prescription label or a copy of your prescription. In-use pens tolerate up to 30 days not above 30°C, so most holidays need no special arrangements. For hot climates, use an insulated pouch. Check destination rules for travelling with prescription injectables before you fly.¹

Unopened pens belong in the fridge and keep until the expiry date printed on the box. If an unopened pen has been out of the fridge, check with the pharmacy before using it, rather than relying on a remembered day limit. Figures circulating online often come from other countries' labels.

Tirzepatide has a half-life of about five days. After a final dose it takes roughly 4 to 5 weeks to clear the system. There is no way to speed this up, and nothing needs doing while it clears.¹

12 · Serious side effects

Serious side effects: when to get help straight away

Serious side effects are uncommon but need urgent attention. Seek immediate medical help for: severe, persistent stomach pain that may spread to your back, with or without vomiting (possible pancreatitis); pain in the upper right abdomen, fever or yellowing of skin/eyes (possible gallbladder problems); or signs of a severe allergic reaction such as swelling of the face or throat and difficulty breathing. If you take insulin or a sulfonylurea alongside Mounjaro, watch for low blood sugar (shakiness, sweating, confusion) — your prescriber may need to adjust those medicines.¹
