01 · The NHS route

How to get Mounjaro on the NHS, step by step

Start by booking a GP appointment to discuss weight management. Mounjaro is available on the NHS, but access is being phased in over several years, with the highest-need groups first.6 Your practice can tell you whether your area is currently offering it to your group.

  • Check your numbers. Know your BMI and any weight-related conditions, such as high blood pressure, type 2 diabetes, sleep apnoea or cardiovascular disease.
  • Book with your GP. You can ask your GP about Mounjaro directly. Ask whether you meet the current phase in your area.
  • Ask about the wider programme. NHS treatment is normally part of a support package, so ask what lifestyle and weight-management support is attached.
  • Ask about timing. If you are not in the current group, ask when your group is expected to be reached.

You can read our week by week NHS guide or the Mounjaro NHS qualification page for more detail.

02 · Eligibility

Who is eligible for Mounjaro on the NHS?

NICE recommends Mounjaro for adults with a BMI of at least 35 plus at least one weight-related condition.4 Because rollout is phased, the first group treated in primary care was BMI 40+ with four or more qualifying conditions.6

RouteWho it coversTiming

People from South Asian, Chinese, other Asian, Middle Eastern, Black African or African-Caribbean backgrounds usually have thresholds reduced by 2.5 kg/m².4 See conditions to get Mounjaro on the NHS for the qualifying conditions.

03 · If you do not qualify yet

If you do not qualify for the NHS yet

If you meet the licensed criteria but not yet the NHS phase, regulated private treatment is an option. Our Mounjaro pen starts with a 2.5mg pen: the standard price is £169.99, your first order costs £129.99 with code FIRST40, and every later order is £25 off the standard price. All six doses are in stock.

Ordering has three steps: a free online consultation, review by a GPhC-registered prescriber (unsuitable orders are refunded automatically), then dispensing with free next-day tracked delivery. Order by 3pm for same-day dispatch. The full Buy Mounjaro page has live prices.

04 · Why you may be refused

Why won't my doctor prescribe Mounjaro?

The most common reason is that you are not yet in the group being treated. Access is phased over several years, so people who meet the licensed criteria may still be told to wait.6 The first group was BMI 40+ with four or more qualifying conditions.

Other reasons can be clinical. Mounjaro is not suitable if you are allergic to tirzepatide, or during pregnancy or when trying to conceive. Mounjaro must not be used during pregnancy, and it should be stopped at least one month before trying to conceive. Extra care is taken with a history of pancreatitis, severe gut disease, diabetic retinopathy or gallbladder problems.1 Tell your clinician if you or a close relative have had medullary thyroid cancer or MEN 2.1

If refused, ask which criterion you missed and when your group is expected to be reached. Our UK access guide explains more.

05 · Scotland and Northern Ireland

Mounjaro on the NHS in Scotland and Northern Ireland

NHS services are run separately in each UK nation and by local health boards, so what is offered can differ by area. Ask your GP practice or local health board what is currently available for your group.

We have local guides for Northern Ireland, Tayside and Fife, plus a comparison of NHS Scotland access. Wegovy access runs through specialist weight-management services; ask your GP.

06 · What treatment involves

What Mounjaro treatment involves

Mounjaro is the brand name for tirzepatide, a once-weekly injection licensed in the UK for weight management and type 2 diabetes. It comes as a KwikPen in six strengths from 2.5mg to 15mg.1 It activates GIP and GLP-1 receptors, helping you feel fuller sooner and less hungry between meals.1

Everyone starts on 2.5mg weekly. After at least 4 weeks the dose rises to 5mg, then can step up by 2.5mg at minimum 4-week intervals to a maximum of 15mg, depending on response and tolerability.1 It is used with a reduced-calorie diet and increased physical activity.

In SURMOUNT-1 (2,539 adults), people lost on average 15% of body weight on 5mg, 19.5% on 10mg and 20.9% on 15mg over 72 weeks, versus 3.1% with lifestyle changes alone. Individual results vary.2 For someone starting at 100 kg, 20.9% is about 21 kg.

07 · Private costs and planning

Planning private costs if you do not wait

If you step up after 4 weeks on each dose, your first four pens (2.5mg to 10mg) cost £879.96 at standard prices. A new customer's first order is £40 less and every later order £25 less.

A first year (13 pens) costs £2,399.88 if you stay on 5mg after your 2.5mg starting pen, up to £3,279.88 if you step up through every dose to 15mg. Those are standard prices, before discounts.

Across the UK pharmacies we track, Mounjaro pens range from £143.96 to £319.99 per month depending on dose and provider (checked 28 October 2026). These are standard prices, so compare them with our standard prices, which run from £169.99 for 2.5mg to £299.99 for 15mg, and always compare the same dose. Payment options include Klarna and pay-monthly, with no subscriptions, and monthly clinical reviews are included.

Our prescription guide and GLP-1 on the NHS page cover related options.

08 · Staying safe buying privately

Avoiding counterfeit Mounjaro

Only buy from a pharmacy listed on the GPhC register, and never from anyone offering to supply without a consultation or prescription.12 The MHRA publishes counterfeit medicine alerts and runs the Yellow Card scheme for reporting side effects.7 EverydayMeds is GPhC-registered (9012878) and supplies genuine KwikPens through official LillyDirect supply from Eli Lilly.

Mounjaro is a prescription-only medicine, supplied after an online consultation reviewed by a GPhC-registered prescriber. This page is information, not a substitute for medical advice.

Ask our pharmacy team
Can I get Mounjaro on the NHS?
Yes, Mounjaro is available on the NHS, but access is phased in over several years. NICE recommends it for adults with a BMI of at least 35 plus at least one weight-related condition, and the rollout began in June 2025 with the highest-need groups first.
Can I ask my GP for Mounjaro?
Yes. Book an appointment, know your BMI and any weight-related conditions, and ask whether your area is currently treating your group. Your GP can also explain what support is attached and when your group is expected to be reached.
Who is eligible for Mounjaro through the NHS?
NICE recommends it for adults with a BMI of at least 35 plus at least one weight-related condition. The first rollout group in primary care was BMI 40+ with four or more qualifying conditions. Thresholds are usually 2.5 kg/m² lower for some ethnic backgrounds.
Why have I been refused Mounjaro?
Most often because rollout is phased and your group has not been reached yet. Clinical reasons also apply, such as pregnancy, allergy to tirzepatide, or a history of pancreatitis or gallbladder problems. Ask your GP which criterion applies.
Can I get Mounjaro on the NHS in Scotland?
NHS services are run separately in each nation and local health board, so availability can differ by area. Ask your GP practice or health board what is currently offered for your group.
What if I do not qualify for NHS Mounjaro?

How quickly does Mounjaro work?
Weight loss is gradual by design. The first weeks on 2.5mg are an adjustment phase and losses are usually modest; most measurable progress builds from 5mg onward, month by month. Trials measured results at 72 weeks, so think in months, not days.
Where can I find the cheapest Mounjaro in the UK?
Pharmacy prices differ by dose and provider, so compare the same dose like for like and use only GPhC-registered pharmacies. Our standard prices run from £169.99 for 2.5mg to £299.99 for 15mg, and the live price table on our Mounjaro page shows every dose.
