GLP-1 Liquid Capsules: What Is Real and What Is Not (October 2026)

There are no licensed GLP-1 liquid capsules in the UK. The oral GLP-1 medicines that are licensed come as solid, prescription-only tablets: Wegovy tablets (oral semaglutide) and Foundayo (orforglipron). Anything sold as a GLP-1 liquid, drop or liquid-filled capsule without a prescription is not one of these medicines. Position as of October 2026.

A quick overview

What to know
before you start.

  • No licensed GLP-1 liquid capsule or liquid drop exists in the UK; the licensed oral options are tablets.
  • Wegovy tablets and Foundayo are prescription-only and need a suitability check by a prescriber.
  • There is no tablet form of Mounjaro: tirzepatide is injection-only in the UK.
  • "Natural GLP-1" supplements such as berberine are not medicines and have no comparable trial evidence.
  • If a seller offers a GLP-1 product without a consultation or prescription, treat it as a red flag.
In this guide

01 · The core answer

Do GLP-1 liquid capsules exist?

No licensed medicine matches that description. A GLP-1 receptor agonist is a prescription medicine with a defined active ingredient, a dosing schedule and trial evidence behind it. A product labelled "GLP-1 liquid capsules" with none of those is a supplement or an unregulated item, and it cannot be assumed to contain a GLP-1 medicine at all.

What does exist is a small but real set of oral options. There is no tablet form of Mounjaro, and Wegovy tablets and Foundayo are now licensed in the UK, both prescription-only.2021 They are tablets you swallow whole, not liquids or liquid-filled capsules.

If you came here after seeing an advert, the safest reading is simple: the word "liquid" is marketing. A licensed oral GLP-1 will always come with a patient information leaflet, a named manufacturer and a prescriber's review.

02 · Your next step

What should you do instead?

Decide first whether a GLP-1 medicine is relevant to you at all. The licensed tablets are for adults with a BMI of 30 or above, or 27 to under 30 with at least one weight-related condition, alongside a reduced-calorie diet and more physical activity.20 If you meet those criteria, the options are a daily tablet or a weekly injection, and a prescriber will check which suits your health, your other medicines and your routine.

If you prefer a once-weekly injection, you can look at the Mounjaro pen, which costs £169.99 per month for the 2.5mg pen at the standard price (checked 10 October 2026), or our wider weight loss clinic information. Every order starts with a free online consultation reviewed by a GPhC-registered prescriber.

03 · Licensed GLP-1 tablets

Wegovy tablets: the licensed oral semaglutide

Wegovy tablets contain semaglutide, the same active ingredient as the Wegovy injection, taken as one tablet once a day.20 They are made by Novo Nordisk and are prescription-only. They are licensed for weight management in adults with a BMI of 30 or above, or 27 to under 30 with at least one weight-related condition, alongside a reduced-calorie diet and more physical activity.20

Treatment starts at 1.5mg once daily and steps up to 4mg, 9mg and then the 25mg maintenance dose, with at least one month at each dose; the dose can stay at an earlier step if needed.20

The routine is strict. The tablet must be taken on an empty stomach after fasting for at least 8 hours, swallowed whole with a sip of water (up to half a glass, about 120ml), and you then wait at least 30 minutes before eating, drinking or taking other tablets.20 If a dose is missed, skip it and take the next tablet the following day.20

In the OASIS 4 trial, adults taking semaglutide 25mg tablets for 64 weeks lost on average 13.6% of their body weight, compared with 2.2% on placebo.22 Trial averages do not predict your own result, and individual results vary. The most common side effects are digestive: nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea, constipation, indigestion and stomach pain, along with headache and tiredness; gallstones and hair loss are listed as common.22

04 · Foundayo explained

Foundayo (orforglipron): the other licensed tablet

Foundayo contains orforglipron, a once-daily GLP-1 tablet made by Eli Lilly, the maker of Mounjaro.21 Unlike Wegovy tablets it can be taken at any time of day, with or without food and without water restrictions; the tablet is swallowed whole.21 That flexibility is the main practical difference for people who find a fasting routine hard.

It is licensed for weight management in adults with a BMI of 30 or above, or 27 to under 30 with at least one weight-related condition, alongside a reduced-calorie diet and more physical activity.21 Treatment starts at 0.8mg once daily, then steps up to 2.5mg and 5.5mg, and then to 9mg, 14.5mg or 17.2mg depending on response and tolerability, with at least 30 days at each dose; 17.2mg once daily is the maximum.21 If a dose is missed, take it as soon as possible, but never more than one tablet a day.21

Foundayo may make oral contraceptive pills less effective: switch to a non-oral method or add a barrier method for 30 days after starting and for 30 days after each dose increase.21

In the ATTAIN-1 trial of 3,127 adults without type 2 diabetes, people taking the highest dose of orforglipron for 72 weeks lost on average 12.4% of their body weight, compared with 0.9% on placebo; the two lower doses gave 7.8% and 9.3%.23 The trial used capsules, and the UK 17.2mg tablet corresponds to the highest trial dose, so the tablet and capsule doses are not comparable milligram for milligram.23

The most common side effects are digestive: nausea, constipation, diarrhoea, vomiting, indigestion and stomach pain.23 In the trial, 10.3% of people on the highest dose stopped because of side effects, compared with 2.7% on placebo.23

05 · Tablets vs injections

How tablets compare with Mounjaro

Mounjaro is a once-weekly injection; Wegovy tablets and Foundayo are once-daily tablets.1 No trial has compared Mounjaro directly with either tablet, so results from separate trials, with different people, durations and doses, should not be set against each other as if they were head to head.15 SURMOUNT-5 is the trial that compared tirzepatide directly with injected semaglutide.15

The practical differences matter as much as the averages. Wegovy tablets need a strict empty-stomach routine every morning, Foundayo has no food or water rules, and Mounjaro needs one injection a week.2021 A prescriber will check which option is suitable for your health, your other medicines and your routine.

On mechanism, tirzepatide is the first treatment of its kind to activate two natural gut-hormone receptors at once: GIP and GLP-1.1 That dual action distinguishes Mounjaro from single-action GLP-1 medicines such as semaglutide.1 There is no tablet form of Mounjaro; tirzepatide is injection-only in the UK.

If you are weighing up different formats, our guide on GLP-1 liquid solutions covers the other liquid claims you may have seen, and the Wegovy pen page covers the weekly semaglutide injection.

06 · Spotting unsafe products

How to spot unsafe or fake GLP-1 products

The clearest warning sign is a seller offering to supply a GLP-1 product without a consultation or prescription. Real GLP-1 medicines are prescription-only, so legitimate supply always involves a clinical review by a registered prescriber.

Other red flags are easy to learn:

  • dramatic weight-loss claims or promises of specific results;
  • no named manufacturer, no patient information leaflet and no batch details;
  • a "GLP-1" product described as a drop, spray, patch or liquid-filled capsule;
  • social media sellers or marketplaces rather than a registered pharmacy;
  • a price that looks far too low for a prescription medicine.

You can check any UK pharmacy on the GPhC register; ours is GPhC 9012878.12 The MHRA publishes counterfeit medicine alerts, and you can report a suspected side effect or a suspect product through the Yellow Card scheme.719

For a closer look at the evidence behind liquid products, see whether GLP-1 liquid works and the side effects of GLP-1 liquid page.

07 · Natural GLP-1 supplements

What about "natural GLP-1" supplements?

"Natural GLP-1" supplements, such as berberine, are not medicines, are not regulated for this use and have no comparable trial evidence.

They are low-cost supplements with no clinical oversight and no standardised dosing, so there is no way to know how much of any ingredient you are taking.

Other licensed options work differently again. Orlistat is a tablet that blocks some dietary fat absorption and produces smaller average losses, while Wegovy and Saxenda (liraglutide) are other licensed injectables. Liraglutide is supplied at 6mg/ml and is a daily injection, unlike once-weekly Mounjaro and Wegovy.

If you want a deeper look, the related pages on GLP-1 liquid products and GLP-1 liquid reviews explain why individual accounts are not a substitute for a licence.

08 · Serious side effects

Serious side effects: when to get help straight away

Serious side effects are uncommon but need urgent attention. Seek immediate medical help for: severe, persistent stomach pain that may spread to your back, with or without vomiting (possible pancreatitis); pain in the upper right abdomen, fever or yellowing of skin/eyes (possible gallbladder problems); or signs of a severe allergic reaction such as swelling of the face or throat and difficulty breathing. If you take insulin or a sulfonylurea alongside Mounjaro, watch for low blood sugar (shakiness, sweating, confusion) — your prescriber may need to adjust those medicines.1

09 · NHS and private routes

NHS and private routes to a real GLP-1

Mounjaro is available on the NHS, but access is being phased in over several years. NICE recommends it for adults with a BMI of at least 35 plus at least one weight-related condition, and the NHS primary-care rollout began in June 2025 with the highest-need groups first (initially BMI 40+ with four or more qualifying conditions).46 Full rollout is expected to take years, which is why many people who meet the licensed criteria choose regulated private treatment rather than waiting.

Privately, the route is the same regardless of the medicine: a free online consultation, a review by a GPhC-registered prescriber, dispensing by a registered pharmacy and tracked delivery. Payment is taken when you place the order; if the prescriber decides the treatment is not suitable, the order is refunded automatically in full. Repeat orders re-check suitability, and ongoing monthly reviews are part of our aftercare.

NHS access to Wegovy runs through specialist weight-management services; ask your GP.

Your questions, answered

Mounjaro price UK — frequently asked questions

Answers to common questions about Mounjaro prices, NHS access and ongoing treatment.

Ask our pharmacy team
Do GLP-1 capsules work?
There is no licensed GLP-1 capsule or liquid-filled capsule in the UK, so there is no trial evidence for one. Licensed oral GLP-1 medicines are tablets: Wegovy tablets and Foundayo. Supplements sold as capsules, such as berberine, are not medicines and have no comparable trial evidence. A prescriber can advise which licensed option suits you.
Is GLP-1 the same as Mounjaro?
No. GLP-1 is a natural gut hormone, and GLP-1 medicines mimic it. Mounjaro (tirzepatide) activates two gut-hormone receptors at once, GIP and GLP-1, which distinguishes it from single-action medicines such as semaglutide. It is a once-weekly injection, and there is no tablet form of Mounjaro in the UK.
Is GLP-1 oral liquid available at Boots?
There is no licensed GLP-1 oral liquid, so there is no genuine product to stock. The licensed oral GLP-1 medicines are Wegovy tablets and Foundayo, both prescription-only. For availability at any particular high-street pharmacy, ask that pharmacy directly or speak to your prescriber.
Where can I buy GLP-1 pills?
GLP-1 tablets are prescription-only, so they are supplied only after a clinical review by a prescriber, through a registered pharmacy. Check any seller on the GPhC register and avoid anyone offering to supply without a consultation or prescription.
Which GLP-1 is best for weight loss in the UK?
There is no single best option; it depends on your health, other medicines and routine. Mounjaro and Wegovy are weekly injections, while Wegovy tablets and Foundayo are daily tablets. SURMOUNT-5 is the trial that compared tirzepatide directly with injected semaglutide. A prescriber will check which licensed option is suitable for you.
What is the most successful weight loss pill?
No trial has ranked the licensed pills against each other or against injections, so no one pill can be named as the winner. Wegovy tablets and Foundayo each have their own trial results, with different people, durations and doses. Those results should not be set side by side as head to head. Trial averages do not predict your own result.
Who cannot take GLP-1?
Mounjaro is not suitable for everyone. You should not take it if you are allergic to tirzepatide or any of its ingredients, and it should not be used during pregnancy or while trying to conceive. Mounjaro must not be used during pregnancy, and it should be stopped at least one month before trying to conceive. If you become pregnant during treatment, stop the medicine and tell your prescriber promptly. Your prescriber will take extra care, or may recommend against treatment, if you have a history of pancreatitis, severe gut or digestive disease, diabetic retinopathy, or gallbladder problems. Always share your full medical history and medicine list during consultation. The licensed tablets are for adults with a BMI of 30 or above, or 27 to under 30 with at least one weight-related condition. Foundayo may make oral contraceptive pills less effective: switch to a non-oral method or add a barrier method for 30 days after starting and for 30 days after each dose increase. For Mounjaro, the advice is a non-oral or barrier method for 4 weeks after starting and after each dose increase. Complete a consultation honestly so suitability can be checked.
Is GLP-1 safe?
Like all medicines, licensed GLP-1 medicines can cause side effects, mostly digestive: nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea, constipation, indigestion and stomach pain. Seek immediate medical help for severe, persistent stomach pain that may spread to your back, with or without vomiting; pain in the upper right abdomen, fever or yellowing of the skin or eyes; or signs of a severe allergic reaction such as swelling of the face or throat and difficulty breathing. Unregulated liquid or capsule products carry no such assurance. Report any suspected side effect through the Yellow Card scheme and discuss new symptoms with your prescriber.
