GLP-1 Liquid Solution in the UK: What Is Real and What Is Not (October 2026)

There is no licensed GLP-1 oral liquid solution for weight loss in the UK; licensed GLP-1 medicines are prescription-only weekly injection pens, daily liraglutide injections and film-coated tablets. Liquid drops, sprays and "vials" sold online are not the same thing and carry real risks.

A quick overview

What to know
before you start.

  • GLP-1 is a natural gut hormone; the medicines that copy it are prescription-only, not drinks or drops.
  • Mounjaro is a once-weekly pen reviewed by a GPhC-registered prescriber, not a liquid you swallow.
  • Liquid vials and oral drops sold online may be counterfeit or unregulated, so check the seller on the GPhC register.
  • No drink, tea or three-ingredient recipe has been shown to work like a licensed GLP-1 medicine.
  • Our free consultation shows whether a licensed treatment suits you; prices are shown live on the product page.
In this guide

01 · The core answer

Is there a GLP-1 liquid solution you can drink?

No licensed GLP-1 weight-loss medicine comes as an oral liquid. GLP-1 itself is a hormone your gut releases after eating, and the medicines that copy it are made as injections or tablets under strict medicines regulation. Anything marketed as a swallowable GLP-1 liquid, drop or spray should be treated with caution.

The confusion is understandable. Many injectable medicines are supplied as a clear liquid inside the pen, and sellers use the word "solution" to sound clinical. A liquid inside a sealed, labelled, prescription-only pen is a very different product from an unlabelled bottle of drops sold with dramatic claims.

If you are weighing up your options, our guide to GLP-1 solutions sets out the formats in more detail, and our overview of GLP-1 liquid products covers what you are likely to see advertised.

02 · What exists

GLP-1 formats compared

Daily injectionLiraglutide (Saxenda, Erly)Licensed, prescription-onlyInjected daily; supplied at 6mg/ml

The licensed rows each have a published product information leaflet. The unlicensed rows have no equivalent, which is the most important difference between them.

03 · Your next step

What to do next

If your goal is weight loss with a treatment that has been tested, the realistic route is a licensed medicine chosen with a prescriber. Our weight loss clinic explains the options, and the free consultation is reviewed by a GPhC-registered prescriber who can tell you whether a pen suits you.

04 · What GLP-1 actually is

What GLP-1 actually is

GLP-1 is a natural gut hormone, not a liquid you can buy. Your body releases it after meals, and it helps regulate appetite and blood sugar. Medicines in this class copy or boost that signal.

Mounjaro takes the idea further. Tirzepatide is the first treatment of its kind to activate two natural gut-hormone receptors at once: GIP and GLP-1.1 Together these help regulate appetite, slow how quickly the stomach empties, and improve the way the body responds to insulin.1 In practice, most people feel fuller sooner and less hungry between meals, which supports a reduced-calorie diet.1

This is why the format matters. The medicine has to be made, dosed and stored in a controlled way for the signal to be reliable. A bottle of unlabelled liquid cannot offer that.

05 · Does a GLP-1 oral liquid work?

Does a GLP-1 oral liquid work?

The trial results that do exist belong to licensed medicines, taken as directed.

For Mounjaro, the SURMOUNT-1 evidence is clear. In the SURMOUNT-1 trial of 2,539 adults, people taking tirzepatide alongside diet and exercise lost on average 15% of their body weight on 5mg, 19.5% on 10mg and 20.9% on 15mg over 72 weeks, compared with 3.1% with lifestyle changes alone.2 These are trial averages — individual results vary, and treatment works alongside a reduced-calorie diet and increased physical activity, not instead of them.2

Those figures cannot be borrowed by any liquid, drop or drink. They describe one specific medicine, at specific strengths, given by injection under clinical supervision. A product that quotes them without being that medicine is misleading you.

Our dedicated page on whether GLP-1 liquid works goes through the claims sellers make and why they do not stand up.

06 · Liquid vials and compounded products

Liquid vials, drops and counterfeit risk

Liquid vials and drops sold online are a safety concern, because you cannot verify what is inside them. The medicines regulator publishes counterfeit medicine alerts and runs the Yellow Card scheme for exactly this reason.7

Warning signs of an unsafe seller include:

  • Offering to supply without a consultation or prescription.
  • Dramatic weight-loss claims or promises of specific results.
  • No pharmacy registration number you can check on the public register.
  • Vials or bottles without a pharmacy label, patient leaflet or batch details.
  • Prices far below what registered pharmacies charge for the same medicine.

Our registration is GPhC 9012878, and you can check it on the GPhC register. We supply genuine Mounjaro KwikPens through official LillyDirect supply, sourced directly from Eli Lilly's UK distribution.

If you suspect a product is counterfeit, or you have a suspected side effect from any medicine, report it through the Yellow Card scheme.19

07 · How GLP-1 medicines are taken

How to take GLP-1 medicines properly

Licensed GLP-1 medicines are taken exactly as the product leaflet says, and the format decides how. There is no standard way to take a GLP-1 oral liquid, because there is no approved dose for one.

For Mounjaro, the pen is a once-weekly injection. It comes as a pre-filled multi-dose pen (KwikPen) in six strengths: 2.5mg, 5mg, 7.5mg, 10mg, 12.5mg and 15mg.1 Everyone starts on 2.5mg once a week. After at least 4 weeks the dose increases to 5mg, and can then step up by 2.5mg at a minimum of 4-week intervals up to a maximum of 15mg weekly, depending on how you respond and tolerate it.

Storage matters for an injectable. Keep pens in the fridge at 2–8°C and never freeze them; once a pen is in use it can be kept out of the fridge at a temperature not above 30°C for up to 30 days, and must then be thrown away.13 For anything else about storage, check the patient information leaflet or ask the pharmacy. Needles, a sharps bin and injection guidance come with every order.

Wegovy follows the same weekly pattern: pens are 0.25mg, 0.5mg, 1mg, 1.7mg and 2.4mg once weekly, and the 2.4mg dose is the licensed maintenance dose for weight management.18 You can read more on the Wegovy pen page.

08 · Tablets as the non-injection option

Tablets: the licensed alternative to injections

If the real reason you want a liquid is to avoid needles, licensed GLP-1 tablets are the safer route. Wegovy tablets (oral semaglutide) and Foundayo (orforglipron) film-coated tablets each have a product information entry in the electronic medicines compendium.2021

No trial has compared Mounjaro directly with either tablet, so results from separate trials, with different people, durations and doses, should not be set against each other as if they were head to head. A prescriber can discuss whether a tablet or a pen fits your health history and preferences.

The point is that a tablet is a tested, regulated product with a leaflet and a defined dose. A swallowable liquid of unknown origin is not.

09 · Side effects and who should avoid

Side effects and safety

Like all medicines, Mounjaro can cause side effects, and most are digestive. The most common, affecting more than 1 in 10 people, are nausea, diarrhoea, vomiting, constipation and abdominal discomfort. For products with no leaflet, there is no reliable list at all, which is itself a risk. Our page on GLP-1 liquid side effects explains what to watch for.

With licensed medicines, tell your prescriber about any new symptom, and read the leaflet before starting.13 You can report suspected side effects to the Yellow Card scheme.19

Our aftercare includes ongoing monthly reviews, dose-titration and follow-up assessments by the prescribing team, plus side-effect support. Repeat orders re-check suitability, and there is no auto-shipping.

10 · Drinks, recipes and food

GLP-1 drinks and the three-ingredient recipe

No drink has been shown to work like a GLP-1 medicine. Recipes circulating as a three-ingredient drink for weight loss, or marketed as a "natural GLP-1" shake, are not an established effect of any ingredient.

A drink can only help the way any food can: by fitting into a reduced-calorie eating pattern. That is a dietary choice, not a substitute for medicine.

On food while taking a GLP-1 medicine, the leaflet and your prescriber are the right sources. Some people find that rich or very large meals make them feel unwell, but your own experience and your prescriber's advice should guide you rather than a generic list.

Low-cost supplements are available without any assessment, and none has the evidence base of a licensed medicine.

11 · The NHS and private route

NHS access and the private route

Mounjaro is available on the NHS, but access is being phased in over several years. NICE recommends it for adults with a BMI of at least 35 plus at least one weight-related condition, and the NHS primary-care rollout began in June 2025 with the highest-need groups first (initially BMI 40+ with four or more qualifying conditions).46 Full rollout is expected to take years, which is why many people who meet the licensed criteria choose regulated private treatment rather than waiting.

If you go private, the Mounjaro pen has a standard 2.5mg starting price of £169.99 per month, and all six doses are in stock. A new customer's first order is £40 less with code FIRST40, and every later order is £25 off the standard price (code DOSE25).

Delivery is free, next-day and tracked in temperature-controlled packaging, with same-day dispatch when ordered by 3pm. Payment is taken when you place the order; if the prescriber decides the treatment is not suitable, the order is refunded automatically in full.

12 · Why people look for liquid forms

Needle worry is common, and the pen is designed for self-injection with guidance included. If that still feels too much, tablets are an option to raise with a prescriber.

Wanting something gentler is where a conversation helps most. Starting at the lowest strength and stepping up gradually is how treatment is built, and the prescribing team supports you throughout.

You can also see our related pages on GLP-1 liquid capsules for another format people ask about.

13 · Serious side effects

Serious side effects: when to get help straight away

Serious side effects are uncommon but need urgent attention. Seek immediate medical help for: severe, persistent stomach pain that may spread to your back, with or without vomiting (possible pancreatitis); pain in the upper right abdomen, fever or yellowing of skin/eyes (possible gallbladder problems); or signs of a severe allergic reaction such as swelling of the face or throat and difficulty breathing. If you take insulin or a sulfonylurea alongside Mounjaro, watch for low blood sugar (shakiness, sweating, confusion) — your prescriber may need to adjust those medicines.1

Your questions, answered

Mounjaro price UK — frequently asked questions

Answers to common questions about Mounjaro prices, NHS access and ongoing treatment.

Ask our pharmacy team
Is GLP-1 a liquid?
GLP-1 is a natural hormone made in your gut, not a liquid product. The medicines that copy it are supplied as prescription-only pens, daily injections or tablets. Some injectables are a liquid inside the pen, but that is not the same as a swallowable GLP-1 liquid, and you should not buy one from an unregulated seller.
Does the GLP-1 oral liquid work?
No trial evidence shows that oral GLP-1 liquids sold online work. The trial results quoted for weight loss belong to licensed medicines such as tirzepatide, taken as directed alongside diet and activity. Individual results vary, and those figures cannot be transferred to a liquid, drop or spray of unknown origin.
How to take GLP-1 oral liquid?
There is no approved way to take a GLP-1 oral liquid because there is no licensed product or standard dose. Dosing is not standardised, and seller instructions cannot be trusted. If you want a licensed GLP-1 medicine, a prescriber will choose the format and dose for you after a consultation.
How to take GLP-1 liquid vials?
Do not use liquid vials from unverified sellers. Licensed medicines come in labelled pens with a patient leaflet and clear instructions, and you inject as the pen's instructions say. If you have bought vials already, speak to a pharmacist or prescriber, and report any suspected counterfeit or side effect through the Yellow Card scheme.
Is there a GLP-1 drink?
There is no licensed GLP-1 drink. Products marketed as natural GLP-1 drinks or shakes are low-cost supplements with no clinical oversight, and none has the evidence behind a licensed medicine. A drink can only support weight loss by fitting into a reduced-calorie diet, the way any food or drink would.
Does the GLP-1 drink really work?
No drink has been shown to work like a GLP-1 medicine. Dramatic weight-loss claims on these products are not backed by the kind of trials behind licensed treatments. If you want a medicine with tested results, a prescriber-reviewed treatment such as Mounjaro is the route to discuss, used with diet and activity.
What foods should I avoid while taking GLP-1 medication?
Follow the patient information leaflet and your prescriber's advice, as there is no single list that suits everyone. Some people feel unwell after very rich or large meals, so pay attention to how you respond. Treatment works alongside a reduced-calorie diet and increased physical activity, and our prescribing team offers side-effect support.
What is the 3 ingredient drink for weight loss?
Recipes promoted as a three-ingredient weight-loss drink are not an established treatment, and no ingredient combination has been shown to act like a GLP-1 medicine. They often make dramatic weight-loss claims. Treat them as a dietary choice at most, and speak to a prescriber about licensed options if you want medical support.
