Can You Take Mounjaro With Multiple Sclerosis? (October 2026)
Multiple sclerosis (MS) is not listed in the criteria that decide Mounjaro eligibility, so having MS does not automatically rule you out or in: a prescriber assesses your BMI, medical history and current medicines first.1 Our Mounjaro pen starts at £169.99 per month. Mounjaro is not a treatment for MS. Prices checked 10 October 2026.

A quick overview
What to know
before you start.
-
Mounjaro is licensed for weight management and type 2 diabetes, not for treating MS, so it never replaces your MS care.
-
Eligibility rests on BMI, weight-related conditions and your current medicines, all reviewed by a prescriber before anything is supplied.
-
Tell your neurologist or MS nurse before starting, and tell our prescriber about every MS medicine you take.
-
Mounjaro slows stomach emptying, which is worth discussing if you already have bladder, bowel or swallowing symptoms.
-
Report any new or worrying symptom to your prescriber and through the Yellow Card scheme.
In this guide
01 · The decision
Can you take Mounjaro if you have multiple sclerosis?
You may be able to, but the decision is individual and should involve both your MS team and the prescriber. Mounjaro is licensed for weight management in adults and for type 2 diabetes.1 MS is not part of that licence, and the medicine does not treat MS.
A prescriber considers your BMI, medical history and current medicines before deciding whether Mounjaro is suitable.11 For MS, that means they need to know your type of MS, your treatments and how your symptoms affect day-to-day life.
If you want a wider read before deciding, see our guide on multiple sclerosis and GLP-1 medicines.
02 · Eligibility
Who qualifies for Mounjaro, with or without MS
Eligibility is the same test for everyone: Mounjaro is licensed for adults with a BMI of 30 or above, or a BMI between 27 and 30 with at least one weight-related condition such as high blood pressure, high cholesterol, obstructive sleep apnoea, cardiovascular disease, prediabetes or type 2 diabetes.1 It must be used alongside a reduced-calorie diet and increased physical activity.1
| Question | What decides it | Who decides |
|---|---|---|
| Do I meet the weight criteria? | BMI of 30 or above, or 27 to 30 with a weight-related condition | Prescriber |
| Is it suitable alongside my MS? | Your history, MS symptoms and current medicines | Prescriber, with input from your MS team |
| Will it treat my MS? | No. It is licensed for weight management and type 2 diabetes | Not applicable |
| Do my MS medicines change anything? | Needs a personal medicines review | Prescriber and your neurology team |
Your first 2.5mg pen costs £129.99 with code FIRST40 (standard price £169.99), and every later order is £25 off the standard price. You can begin with our free consultation, where you list your MS and every medicine you take. Payment is taken when you place the order; if the prescriber decides the treatment is not suitable, the order is refunded automatically in full.
03 · Next steps
What to do before you start
Speak to your neurologist or MS nurse first, because they know how your MS behaves and what else you take. Take our consultation questions with you, and ask them whether anything about your symptoms or treatment plan makes a weight-management medicine a poor fit right now.
Then complete the consultation honestly. Include relapses, mobility problems, bladder or bowel symptoms, swallowing difficulty, fatigue and every disease-modifying or symptom-relief medicine, including ones from a specialist clinic. A prescriber cannot assess a risk they have not been told about.

04 · What Mounjaro is
What Mounjaro is and what it is not
Mounjaro is the brand name for tirzepatide, a once-weekly injectable prescription medicine made by Eli Lilly. In the UK it is licensed for weight management in adults and for type 2 diabetes.1 It comes as a pre-filled multi-dose pen (KwikPen) in six strengths: 2.5mg, 5mg, 7.5mg, 10mg, 12.5mg and 15mg.1
That licensing matters if you have MS. It is a separate decision about weight, made alongside your MS care.
Our service operates as a full UK online pharmacy and Mounjaro is a prescription-only medicine, supplied only after an online consultation reviewed by a GPhC-registered prescriber. Our supply comes through official LillyDirect, sourced directly from Eli Lilly, and all six doses are in stock.
05 · How it works
How Mounjaro works, and why that matters for MS symptoms
Tirzepatide activates two natural gut-hormone receptors at once, GIP and GLP-1. Together these help regulate appetite, slow how quickly the stomach empties, and improve the way the body responds to insulin.1 In practice, most people feel fuller sooner and less hungry between meals, which supports a reduced-calorie diet.
The slower stomach emptying is the detail worth raising with your MS team. MS can bring its own symptoms affecting digestion, swallowing or bowel and bladder control. Tell the prescriber about any such symptoms before starting, and say if they change afterwards.
The same point applies to any other medicine you take by mouth. Because the stomach empties more slowly, discuss the timing and suitability of your full medicine list with the prescriber and your pharmacist rather than assuming nothing changes. For contraception specifically, the medicine can reduce absorption of oral contraceptives because stomach emptying slows.7 The SmPC advises switching to a non-oral method, or adding a barrier method (such as condoms), for 4 weeks after starting Mounjaro and for 4 weeks after each dose increase.1
06 · Weight and MS
Is it harder to lose weight with MS?
Fatigue, reduced mobility and some symptom-relief medicines may all make diet and exercise more difficult, and your MS team or a dietitian is best placed to say which apply to you.
In the SURMOUNT-1 trial of 2,539 adults, people taking tirzepatide alongside diet and exercise lost on average 15% of their body weight on 5mg, 19.5% on 10mg and 20.9% on 15mg over 72 weeks, compared with 3.1% with lifestyle changes alone.2 For someone starting at 100 kg, 20.9% is about 21 kg.
Those are trial averages. Individual results vary, and treatment works alongside a reduced-calorie diet and increased physical activity, not instead of them.2 Trial averages do not predict your own result, and they say nothing about how someone with MS in particular would respond. If activity is limited by your MS, ask your team what level of movement is realistic and safe for you.

07 · Safety and stopping
New symptoms, relapses and reporting
If you notice a new or worsening symptom after starting Mounjaro, contact your prescriber and your MS team rather than waiting to see what happens. MS symptoms can fluctuate for reasons unrelated to any medicine, which makes it hard to tell causes apart without a clinician looking at the whole picture.
A symptom that is not a listed side effect in the Mounjaro patient leaflet should not be ignored. Tell your prescriber about any new or lasting symptom. If you have severe, persistent stomach pain that may spread to your back, with or without vomiting (possible pancreatitis); pain in the upper right abdomen, fever or yellowing of the skin or eyes (possible gallbladder problems); or signs of a severe allergic reaction such as swelling of the face or throat and difficulty breathing, get medical help straight away.
You can also report a suspected side effect through the MHRA Yellow Card scheme, which anyone can use.19 Reports help the regulator monitor medicines, and they do not replace speaking to a clinician.
If you stop, tirzepatide has a half-life of about five days, so after a final dose it takes roughly 4–5 weeks to clear the system. There is no way to speed this up, and nothing needs doing while it clears.1 If you are thinking of stopping because of an MS flare or a hospital stay, tell your prescriber so your plan can be reviewed.
08 · NHS or private
NHS or private route
Mounjaro is available on the NHS, but access is being phased in over several years. NICE recommends it for adults with a BMI of at least 35 plus at least one weight-related condition, and the NHS primary-care rollout began in June 2025 with the highest-need groups first, initially BMI 40+ with four or more qualifying conditions.46 Full rollout is expected to take years, which is why many people who meet the licensed criteria choose regulated private treatment rather than waiting.
If you have MS, your GP and neurology team already know your history, so asking them about the NHS route first is sensible. A private prescription is a legitimate alternative where you meet the licensed criteria, as long as the prescriber has the full picture of your MS and medicines.
Whichever route you take, one prescriber should know everything you take. Keep your GP and MS team informed about any private treatment so your records stay complete.
09 · Ordering with us
How ordering works if you have MS
Ordering has three steps, and the first matters most for people with MS because it is where you describe your condition.
- Free online consultation: a short health questionnaire with no charge and no obligation. List your MS and all medicines here.
- Prescriber review: reviewed by a GPhC-registered prescriber, not a scoring script. Payment is taken when you place the order; if the prescriber decides the treatment is not suitable, the order is refunded automatically in full.
- Dispensing and delivery: dispensed by our registered pharmacy, with same-day dispatch when ordered by 3pm and free next-day tracked delivery in discreet, temperature-controlled packaging. Saturday delivery is £14.99.
Needles, a sharps bin and injection guidance come with every order. Ongoing monthly reviews, dose titration and follow-up assessments by the prescribing team are included, with side-effect support, and repeat orders re-check suitability with no auto-shipping. This matters if your MS changes over time.
If limited hand function or fatigue could make injecting difficult, mention it in your consultation. Support is available Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm, by email at support@everydaymeds.co.uk, through the account portal chat or by phone on 0333 207 0413. The consultation is free and the price shown is the price paid.
Pens come in six strengths, and you start at the lowest. If you are weighing up the first months, see what the first month can look like, and our full list of weight loss treatments covers the alternatives.
10 · Questions for your team
Questions to take to your MS team and prescriber
A short list makes both conversations more useful. Ask your neurologist or MS nurse whether any current symptoms, such as digestive, swallowing or bladder issues, make a medicine that slows stomach emptying a concern for you. Ask whether anything in your treatment plan is due to change soon, and whether they want to see you after you start.
Ask the prescriber how your current medicines were checked, what to watch for in the first weeks, and who to contact if a symptom changes. A prescriber will assess your BMI, medical history and current medicines before deciding whether Mounjaro is suitable.11
If you order more than one pen at a time, read how multiple Mounjaro pens are handled so you keep to your prescribed schedule. Mounjaro (tirzepatide) is a prescription-only medicine used alongside a reduced-calorie diet and increased physical activity. Individual results vary. This page is information, not a substitute for medical advice.
How ordering works
How ordering works at EverydayMeds
Three steps, with our pharmacy team alongside you.
Step 1: Online consultation — 5–10 minutes
Complete a confidential health questionnaire covering BMI, medical history and current medication. No payment is taken until you're approved.
Step 2: Prescriber review — usually same day
A UK registered prescriber checks your suitability against the licensed criteria (BMI ≥30, or ≥27 with a weight-related condition) and contraindications, and confirms your starting dose.
Step 3: Next-day tracked delivery
Dispensed by our GPhC-registered pharmacy in temperature-controlled packaging with needles and a sharps bin included. Orders approved by 3pm for next-day tracked delivery.
Prescription and dispatch follow clinical approval. Confirm current delivery options when ordering.
Afterwards you're not on your own: dose-change reviews are built in before each step up, our pharmacist team is available for side-effect questions, and repeat orders re-check suitability rather than auto-shipping.
