A quick overview

What to know
before you start.

  • Myo-inositol is an over-the-counter supplement. Mounjaro (tirzepatide) is a prescription medicine, so the two are held to very different standards of evidence.
  • Your prescriber can review your full picture before you combine a supplement with Mounjaro.
  • Tell your prescriber about every supplement you take, especially if you have PCOS, diabetes or take other glucose-lowering medicines.
  • Supplements are not a substitute for a licensed treatment, and dosing for them is not standardised.
  • Report any new or worrying symptom to your prescriber, and consider the MHRA Yellow Card scheme.
In this guide

01 · The core answer

Can you take myo-inositol and Mounjaro together?

Mounjaro is a prescription-only medicine reviewed by a GPhC-registered prescriber, and it is used alongside a reduced-calorie diet and increased physical activity.1

Myo-inositol is not described as a recognised interaction with tirzepatide. Equally, nothing confirms the combination is safe for you in particular. Absence of a warning is not the same as a safety check.

For more, see taking inositol and Mounjaro together.

02 · Your decision

What to do before you add it

Tell the prescriber reviewing your Mounjaro treatment exactly which product you are considering. Show them the label, including any other ingredients in a combined formula. Ask whether anything in your health history makes it a poor idea.

Many inositol products are blends. They may include other vitamins, minerals or plant extracts. Each added ingredient is a separate question, so a blend cannot be judged from the word "inositol" alone.

03 · How Mounjaro works

How Mounjaro works, and why it matters for supplements

Mounjaro is the brand name for tirzepatide, a once-weekly injectable prescription medicine made by Eli Lilly. In the UK it is licensed for weight management in adults and for type 2 diabetes.1 It comes as a pre-filled multi-dose pen, the KwikPen, in strengths from 2.5mg to 15mg.

Tirzepatide activates the GIP and GLP-1 receptors, two natural gut-hormone targets. Together these help regulate appetite, slow how quickly the stomach empties, and improve the way the body responds to insulin.1 Most people feel fuller sooner and less hungry between meals.

That mechanism is the reason supplement questions come up. Anything marketed as affecting insulin or appetite invites the thought that it might "stack" with Mounjaro. Stacking is a guess, not a tested fact. Two things that sound alike are not necessarily additive, and they are not necessarily safe together.

The slower stomach emptying is worth remembering too. It can change how quickly the stomach handles whatever you swallow, and many people on treatment report a sensitive stomach early on. Adding a new supplement at the same time makes it hard to tell what is causing what.

04 · What we cannot say

What is not known about myo-inositol

A confident answer from a forum thread, a social post or an automated summary is not a clinical check.

The same goes for claims that a supplement works like a prescription weight-loss medicine. Our page on whether inositol is a GLP-1 goes into why a supplement is not the same kind of thing as a GLP-1 medicine. Likewise, if you are wondering whether it dampens hunger, see does inositol suppress appetite, which stays within what can be supported.

If you notice a new symptom after starting any supplement, tell your prescriber. You can also report suspected side effects through the MHRA Yellow Card scheme.19 Reports help regulators spot patterns that individual users cannot.

05 · PCOS and Mounjaro

Can someone with PCOS take Mounjaro?

Mounjaro's licensed uses are weight management in adults and type 2 diabetes.1 Having PCOS does not by itself rule treatment in or out. What matters is whether you meet the licensed criteria and whether the prescriber judges it suitable for you.

Be open about PCOS in your consultation. Mention any medicines for it, including hormonal treatments, and any supplements you already use. A prescriber reviewing your answers can only account for what you tell them.

Contraception deserves a specific mention. Mounjaro slows stomach emptying, which can reduce how well oral contraceptive pills are absorbed.7 The SmPC advises switching to a non-oral method, or adding a barrier method (such as condoms), for 4 weeks after starting Mounjaro and for 4 weeks after each dose increase.1 If you take an oral contraceptive, discuss this with your prescriber rather than assuming nothing changes.

Do not treat a supplement as a replacement for a diagnosis or ongoing PCOS care. If your symptoms are the reason you are exploring options, your GP or specialist remains the right place for the condition itself, while our prescribers look at weight management.

06 · Blood sugar and stomach

Blood sugar and stomach upset: the two worries

The two concerns people raise are low blood sugar and digestive upset, and both are reasonable to bring to your prescriber. Insulin and sulfonylureas are the established example of medicines where doses may need adjusting when you start Mounjaro, because of the risk of low blood sugar. That is not the same as saying they must not be combined.

If you take any glucose-lowering medicine, the answer to your supplement question depends on the whole regimen. A supplement that sounds mild can matter more when it is added to other medicines. This is exactly the situation where an individual review beats a general web answer.

On the stomach, most Mounjaro side effects are digestive: nausea, diarrhoea, vomiting, constipation and abdominal discomfort affect more than 1 in 10 people.13 If you start a supplement in the same week as a dose increase, you cannot tell which one is responsible for any upset. Changing one thing at a time keeps your prescriber's picture clear.

If you have severe or persistent stomach pain, get medical help straight away; pain in the upper right abdomen, fever or yellowing of the skin or eyes also needs medical help straight away, as do signs of a severe allergic reaction such as swelling of the face or throat and difficulty breathing. For other severe or unusual symptoms, contact your prescriber.

07 · Vitamins and what to avoid

What vitamins go with Mounjaro, and what to avoid?

Treatment is used alongside a reduced-calorie diet and increased physical activity.1 If you eat much less than before, a varied diet matters, and your prescriber or a pharmacist can talk through whether anything extra suits you.

Avoid assuming a heavily marketed supplement is helpful. "Natural" products with dramatic weight-loss claims are not a substitute for a licensed treatment, and they are not held to the same standard. Dosing is not standardised, and quality can vary between brands.

For medicines that cannot be taken with Mounjaro, the authoritative sources are the patient information leaflet and your prescriber.13 Give them your full medicine list, including anything bought without a prescription.

Many people find smaller portions suit them as fullness arrives sooner. If you feel you cannot eat at all, speak to your prescriber instead of pushing through.

08 · Appetite claims explained

Inositol and appetite: separating claims from evidence

Some websites describe inositol as an appetite suppressant. Our page on the inositol appetite suppressant question explains why this framing can mislead.

Appetite changes on Mounjaro come from its action on gut-hormone receptors. A supplement that is sold cheaply and without assessment has not been shown to do the same job. If you have chosen it as a lower-cost route, be realistic: the lower cost reflects the absence of clinical oversight and licensed evidence, not a hidden bargain.

Equally, we are not telling you that taking it is dangerous. The sensible position is neutral: a supplement is your choice, but it should not replace a licensed medicine when you need one, and your prescriber should know about it.

09 · Starting and stopping

Timing: when to start a supplement, and what stopping looks like

If your prescriber agrees to a supplement, ask whether to begin it before, during or after dose changes. Starting one change at a time helps you and your prescriber make sense of how you feel.

Many readers also ask about the best time of day for Mounjaro. It is a once-weekly injection, so the key is a consistent weekly day, and the pen's instructions explain how to inject.13 Your prescriber can advise if you need to move your day.

A related question is pausing for a holiday. Do not make that call alone; contact your prescriber before skipping or changing doses. If you stop altogether, tirzepatide has a half-life of about five days, so it takes roughly four to five weeks to clear the system. Nothing needs doing while it clears, and there is no way to speed it up.1

Once in use, a pen can be kept out of the fridge at a temperature not above 30°C for up to 30 days after first use, and must then be thrown away. Keep pens in a fridge at 2–8°C and never freeze them. Do not use a pen that has been above 30°C or has been frozen.13 If you travel, plan storage in advance.

10 · Getting treatment safely

Getting Mounjaro through a regulated route

If you are weighing a supplement against a licensed treatment, a regulated route keeps you in contact with a prescriber. EverydayMeds is a GPhC-registered UK online pharmacy (registration GPhC 9012878), with official LillyDirect supply and genuine KwikPens.12

Our process starts with a free online consultation: a short health questionnaire, no charge and no obligation. A GPhC-registered prescriber reviews it, and unsuitable orders are refunded automatically. Delivery is free next-day tracked, in temperature-controlled packaging, and ongoing monthly reviews are included.

NHS access exists too, but it is being phased in over several years. NICE recommends Mounjaro for adults with a BMI of at least 35 plus at least one weight-related condition, and the primary-care rollout began in June 2025 with the highest-need groups first.4 Many people who meet the licensed criteria choose regulated private treatment rather than wait.

If you are already on Mounjaro and have questions about supplements, our related guides on taking inositol alongside Mounjaro and taking inositol while on Mounjaro cover slightly different angles of the same question.

Mounjaro (tirzepatide) is a prescription-only medicine, supplied only after an online consultation reviewed by a GPhC-registered prescriber. Individual results vary. This page is information, not a substitute for medical advice.

Your questions, answered

Mounjaro price UK — frequently asked questions

Answers to common questions about Mounjaro prices, NHS access and ongoing treatment.

Ask our pharmacy team
Can I take myo-inositol with Mounjaro?
You may be able to, but it should be your prescriber's call. Myo-inositol is not described as an interaction in the Mounjaro product information, so it is not possible to say it is safe or unsafe for you. Tell your prescriber and pharmacist the exact product you are considering, along with any other medicines, before you start.
What vitamins are recommended to take with Mounjaro?
No vitamins are required with Mounjaro. Mounjaro is used alongside a reduced-calorie diet and increased physical activity. If you are eating much less, ask your prescriber or a pharmacist whether anything extra suits you, rather than buying heavily marketed products.
What should not be taken with myo-inositol?
Myo-inositol is a supplement with no standardised dosing and many blended products, so check the label with a pharmacist. Check the label, ask a pharmacist, and tell your prescriber about every medicine you take, especially glucose-lowering ones. Do not rely on general web lists.
Can someone with PCOS take Mounjaro?
PCOS does not automatically rule treatment in or out. Mounjaro is licensed for weight management in adults and for type 2 diabetes, so suitability depends on meeting the criteria and a prescriber's review. Mention PCOS and any hormonal medicines in your consultation. Mounjaro slows stomach emptying, which can reduce how well oral contraceptive pills are absorbed, so switch to a non-oral method or add a barrier method for 4 weeks after starting and for 4 weeks after each dose increase.
What medications can not be taken with Mounjaro?
Insulin and sulfonylureas may need dose adjustments because of low blood sugar risk, but that is not a ban. Oral contraceptives can be less well absorbed: switch to a non-oral method or add a barrier method for 4 weeks after starting and for 4 weeks after each dose increase. Give your prescriber your complete medicine list and check the patient information leaflet.
What to avoid while taking Mounjaro?
Avoid changing doses or skipping them without speaking to your prescriber, and avoid relying on unregulated products with dramatic weight-loss claims. Tell your prescriber about any new supplement or medicine, and report new or worrying symptoms. Treatment works alongside a reduced-calorie diet and increased physical activity.
Why can't I eat anything while taking Mounjaro?
Mounjaro helps you feel fuller sooner and slows how quickly the stomach empties, so appetite can drop a lot, especially early on. If you feel unable to eat at all, or feel unwell, contact your prescriber instead of pushing through. They can review your dose.
Can I stop taking Mounjaro while on holiday?
Speak to your prescriber before pausing or changing doses, as they can advise on your situation. Tirzepatide takes roughly four to five weeks to clear the system after a final dose. For travel, plan pen storage in advance: once in use, a pen can be kept out of the fridge at a temperature not above 30°C for up to 30 days.
When is the best time of day to take Mounjaro?
Mounjaro is a once-weekly injection, so the day matters more than the time. Pick a consistent weekly day and follow the pen's instructions. If you need to move your injection day, ask your prescriber how to do it safely.
