A quick overview

What to know
before you start.

  • Tell your prescriber about every supplement you take; the Mounjaro leaflet is the reference for interactions.
  • Inositol is a supplement, not a licensed weight-loss medicine, and it does not replace Mounjaro.
  • If you also take insulin or sulfonylureas, doses may need adjusting because of low blood sugar risk.
  • Introduce anything new separately from Mounjaro so you can tell what causes a symptom.
  • Report any new or unexpected symptoms to your prescriber and through the Yellow Card scheme.
In this guide

01 · The core answer

Can you take inositol with Mounjaro?

Inositol is a supplement and is not listed in the Mounjaro leaflet as an interacting substance, but tell your prescriber about it. The sensible route is to tell the prescriber who reviews your treatment before you start.1

Mounjaro (tirzepatide) activates GIP and GLP-1 receptors, which helps regulate appetite, slows how quickly the stomach empties and improves the way the body responds to insulin.1 Because Mounjaro already acts on insulin response, a second product aimed at the same area is worth discussing rather than assuming.

02 · Your next step

What should you actually decide?

You are really facing two decisions. First, do you need inositol at all, or is it something you started before treatment? Second, do you take other medicines that affect blood sugar? If you use insulin or sulfonylureas, their doses may need adjusting because of the risk of low blood sugar.1

If you are not yet on treatment, our Mounjaro pen prices and consultation page explains how a free consultation works. Your answers, including supplements, are reviewed by a GPhC-registered prescriber. You can also read about our wider weight loss clinic approach.

03 · Why people ask

Why people pair inositol with Mounjaro

Inositol is widely marketed for PCOS and insulin resistance, and many people on weight-loss treatment look for supplements that seem to fit alongside it. Mounjaro is licensed in the UK for weight management in adults and for type 2 diabetes.1 Inositol has no such licence for either use.

That difference matters. A licensed medicine has been assessed for its quality, safety and effectiveness. A supplement is sold as a low-cost product with no clinical oversight, and dosing is not standardised. Mounjaro remains the treatment doing the clinical work, used alongside a reduced-calorie diet and increased physical activity.

For wider context, see our related guide on myo-inositol and Mounjaro.

04 · Is inositol a GLP-1?

Is inositol a GLP-1?

No. Inositol is not a GLP-1 medicine and is not a licensed treatment. Tirzepatide is different because it activates two natural gut-hormone receptors, GIP and GLP-1, which is what distinguishes it from single-action GLP-1 medicines such as semaglutide.1

Our guide is inositol a GLP-1 goes further. Calling a supplement a natural GLP-1 does not make it work like one, and we would treat such marketing with caution.

05 · Overlapping side effects

Stomach upset and new symptoms

Mounjaro can cause side effects, and most are digestive: the most common, affecting more than 1 in 10 people, are nausea, diarrhoea, vomiting, constipation and abdominal discomfort, and they are most likely when starting treatment or moving up a dose.13 If you add a supplement at the same time, you cannot tell which product caused a symptom.

Practical approach: start Mounjaro and let your routine settle before adding anything else. Add one new product at a time, and keep a note of when you began it. A tracking tool such as our free GLPTrackr app helps with this.

If a symptom is new, unexpected or worrying, speak to your prescriber. Seek immediate medical help for severe, persistent stomach pain that may spread to your back, with or without vomiting (possible pancreatitis); pain in the upper right abdomen, fever or yellowing of skin/eyes (possible gallbladder problems); or signs of a severe allergic reaction such as swelling of the face or throat and difficulty breathing. You can report suspected side effects through the Yellow Card scheme.19

06 · Other things to check

Other medicines and supplements

Inositol is only a single item on a longer list. Tell your prescriber about every prescription medicine, over-the-counter product and supplement you take, because Mounjaro slows how quickly the stomach empties and that can affect how other oral products are absorbed.1

Mounjaro is a prescription-only medicine, supplied after an online consultation reviewed by a GPhC-registered prescriber. This page is information, not a substitute for medical advice.

How ordering works at EverydayMeds

Three steps, with our pharmacy team alongside you.

  1. EverydayMeds online consultation on a mobile phone

    Step 1: Online consultation — 5–10 minutes

Complete a confidential health questionnaire covering BMI, medical history and current medication. No payment is taken until you're approved.

  2. A clinician ready to review an online consultation

Step 2: Prescriber review — usually same day

  3. An EverydayMeds delivery box

    Step 3: Next-day tracked delivery

Dispensed by our GPhC-registered pharmacy in temperature-controlled packaging with needles and a sharps bin included. Orders approved by 3pm for next-day tracked delivery.

Your questions, answered

Mounjaro price UK — frequently asked questions

Answers to common questions about Mounjaro prices, NHS access and ongoing treatment.

Ask our pharmacy team
Is it safe to take inositol and Mounjaro together?
Tell your prescriber or pharmacist before starting, particularly if you take insulin, sulfonylureas or other medicines that affect blood sugar.
What medications can not be taken with Mounjaro?
Insulin and sulfonylureas are not forbidden, but their doses may need adjusting because of low blood sugar risk. Mounjaro can also reduce absorption of oral contraceptives. The SmPC advises switching to a non-oral method, or adding a barrier method (such as condoms), for 4 weeks after starting Mounjaro and for 4 weeks after each dose increase.1 Share your full medicine list with your prescriber and check the patient leaflet.
Can you take inositol with GLP-1 medicines?
No inositol interaction is listed in the Mounjaro product information. Because inositol is an unlicensed supplement, ask your prescriber before combining it with any GLP-1 treatment. Never assume a supplement is harmless simply because it is sold without a prescription.
Can inositol reduce belly fat?
Mounjaro has trial evidence for weight loss alongside a reduced-calorie diet and increased physical activity, and individual results vary. Supplements do not replace licensed treatment, diet and activity.
Who should not take inositol?
Inositol is an unlicensed supplement and dosing is not standardised, so ask your GP or pharmacist before starting it. If you are pregnant, planning pregnancy, have a long-term condition or take regular medicines, ask your GP or pharmacist first. Mounjaro must not be used during pregnancy, and it should be stopped at least one month before trying to conceive. If you become pregnant during treatment, stop the medicine and tell your prescriber promptly. Mounjaro itself should not be taken if you are allergic to tirzepatide or any of its ingredients, and your prescriber will take extra care, or may recommend against treatment, if you have a history of pancreatitis, severe gut or digestive disease, diabetic retinopathy, or gallbladder problems.
Is there any downside to taking inositol?
The main downsides are practical. It is an unlicensed supplement with no clinical oversight, quality can vary between brands, and a new product can muddy which one caused a symptom while Mounjaro doses are rising. Tell your prescriber and report anything unexpected through the Yellow Card scheme.
