01 · The verdict
Which pharmacy weight loss medication is best for you?
For adults who meet the licensing criteria, a prescriber can discuss prescription once-weekly injections, and Mounjaro (tirzepatide) is the one we supply. It is licensed in the UK for weight management in adults and comes as a pre-filled KwikPen in six strengths from 2.5mg to 15mg.1 Wegovy (semaglutide) is the other widely used weekly injection, and our guide to weight loss medication sets the options side by side.
No medicine is best for everyone. The right choice depends on your BMI, any weight-related conditions, the medicines you already take and how you tolerate treatment. Our free consultation is reviewed by a GPhC-registered prescriber, and unsuitable orders are refunded automatically.
If you are weighing up providers rather than medicines, see our comparison of the best pharmacy for Mounjaro, where prices are checked and dated.
02 · Costs
What does pharmacy weight loss medication cost?
Mounjaro is priced per pen, and each pen lasts four weeks. The Mounjaro pen starts at a standard £169.99 per month for 2.5mg and rises with the dose, up to £299.99 for 15mg. All six doses are in stock. Your first 2.5mg pen costs £129.99 with code FIRST40 (standard price £169.99). Switching to us at 15mg? Your first order is £259.99. After that, every later order is £25 off the standard price (code DOSE25).
For context, across the UK pharmacies we track, Mounjaro pens range from £143.96 to £319.99 depending on dose and provider, checked 27 October 2026. The gap between providers for the same dose ranges from £20 to £36.03, so comparing the same dose matters. Our best price for weight loss medication page explains how to compare like for like.
| Planning period | Standard cost (before discounts) | What it covers |
|---|---|---|
| First year, settling at 5mg | £2,399.88 | 52 weeks, 13 pens |
| First year, settling at 15mg | £3,279.88 | 52 weeks, 13 pens |
| Maintenance at 7.5mg, 10mg or 12.5mg | £244.99, £274.99, £289.99 per month | Monthly price for that dose |
These totals are at standard prices. A new customer's first order is £40 less, and every later order is £25 less. The price shown is the price paid; the consultation is free with no hidden fees. You can pay by Visa, Mastercard or Klarna, with pay-monthly options and no subscription. For a month-by-month view, see our pharmacy weight loss monthly cost guide.
03 · Supply and service
What should you look for in a pharmacy?
Choose a pharmacy that is on the GPhC register, uses a prescriber to review each consultation and sources genuine product. EverydayMeds is GPhC-registered (9012878), and you can check the entry on the GPhC register.12 Our Mounjaro comes through official LillyDirect supply, direct from Eli Lilly's UK distribution, as genuine KwikPens.
Delivery is free, next-day and tracked, in discreet temperature-controlled packaging, with same-day dispatch when you order by 3pm. Saturday delivery is £14.99. Ongoing monthly reviews, dose-titration support and side-effect support are part of the service, and repeat orders re-check suitability with no auto-shipping. If you prefer to see how an online route works, read about an online pharmacy weight loss injection in the UK.
Ready to start? Payment is taken when you place the order; if the prescriber decides the treatment is not suitable, the order is refunded automatically in full.
04 · How to compare options
How to judge “best” in weight loss medication
The right weight loss medication is one that is licensed for you, supplied lawfully and reviewed by a clinician who knows your history. Four questions are more useful.
First, is it a licensed prescription medicine? Mounjaro is licensed in the UK for weight management in adults and for type 2 diabetes.1 Prescription-only medicines should only be supplied after a consultation reviewed by a prescriber. A website that offers to supply without a consultation or prescription is a warning sign, however low its price.
Second, do you meet the eligibility criteria? The licence is tied to BMI and, for some people, to weight-related conditions. Eligibility is a clinical judgement, not a box-ticking exercise, which is why every consultation is reviewed by a GPhC-registered prescriber rather than a scoring script.
Third, what evidence sits behind it? For Mounjaro, the key trial is SURMOUNT-1. Treat any trial result as an average. It does not predict your own result, and treatment is used alongside a reduced-calorie diet and increased physical activity, not instead of them.
Fourth, what is the whole-year cost and support? A low first-month price matters less than what you pay over twelve months once you reach a maintenance dose. Look at the standard price of the dose you are likely to settle on, whether reviews are included, and whether there is any subscription lock-in. At EverydayMeds there is none, and monthly clinical reviews are included.
Finally, think about practicalities: how the product is delivered (cold-chain packaging matters for injectable pens), how to reach support, and what happens if you stop. Our UK registered pharmacy weight loss page explains what registration means and how to verify it. For a wider view of every treatment type we offer information on, see all weight loss treatments.
One more point: “pharmacy weight loss medication” covers very different things. Prescription injections are assessed and dispensed against a consultation. Over-the-counter products and supplements are available cheaply without assessment and carry no clinical oversight. They are not interchangeable with prescription treatment.
05 · How Mounjaro works
How Mounjaro works
Mounjaro is the brand name for tirzepatide, a once-weekly injectable prescription medicine made by Eli Lilly.1 It is supplied as a pre-filled multi-dose pen (KwikPen) in six strengths: 2.5mg, 5mg, 7.5mg, 10mg, 12.5mg and 15mg.
Tirzepatide is the first treatment of its kind to activate two natural gut-hormone receptors at once: GIP and GLP-1.1 Together these help regulate appetite, slow how quickly the stomach empties, and improve the way the body responds to insulin. This dual action is what distinguishes Mounjaro from single-action GLP-1 medicines such as semaglutide (Wegovy and Ozempic).
In practice, most people feel fuller sooner and less hungry between meals, which supports a reduced-calorie diet.1 That is the point of the medicine: it makes it easier to follow the diet and activity plan that does the rest of the work. It is not a replacement for that plan.
Because the pen is once weekly, treatment is simple to fit into a routine. Pens are dosed in steps. If you step up after 4 weeks on each dose, your first four pens (2.5mg to 10mg) cost £879.96 at standard prices, before discounts.
Tirzepatide has a half-life of about five days, so after a final dose it takes roughly 4–5 weeks to clear the system.1 There is no way to speed this up, and nothing needs doing while it clears. This is worth knowing if you are considering stopping or switching: the effects of your last dose do not vanish overnight.
If you are ready to look at the product itself, you can buy Mounjaro through our UK pharmacy after a consultation.
Mounjaro is a prescription-only medicine, supplied only after an online consultation reviewed by a GPhC-registered prescriber. Individual results vary.
06 · What the trial shows
What SURMOUNT-1 shows about weight loss
In SURMOUNT-1, people taking tirzepatide alongside diet and exercise lost on average 15% of their body weight on 5mg, 19.5% on 10mg and 20.9% on 15mg over 72 weeks, compared with 3.1% with lifestyle changes alone.2 The trial enrolled 2,539 adults.
These are trial averages. Individual results vary, and treatment works alongside a reduced-calorie diet and increased physical activity, not instead of them. A trial average does not predict your own result: some people lose more, some less.
To make the percentages concrete, here is a worked example. For someone starting at 100 kg, 15% is about 15 kg, 19.5% is about 19.5 kg and 20.9% is about 21 kg. That is straight arithmetic from the trial averages for a hypothetical starting weight, not a forecast for you and not a timescale.
The trial also reports how many participants reached particular thresholds at 72 weeks. 85% of participants on 5mg, 89% on 10mg and 91% on 15mg had lost at least 5% of their body weight. Half of participants on 10mg and 57% on 15mg lost at least 20% of their body weight.2
What do these numbers mean for choosing a medicine? They tell you that tirzepatide has substantial evidence for weight management in the studied population. They do not tell you that it is better than any other medicine, because a single trial cannot support that. Only a head-to-head trial can, and the SURMOUNT-5 trial compared tirzepatide with semaglutide directly.15 Ask your prescriber how those findings apply to you rather than comparing figures from different trials, which is not a like-for-like exercise.
The trial reports results by dose, and your prescriber will recommend a maintenance dose based on how you respond and tolerate treatment, not on chasing the highest figure. Many people settle below the top dose. At standard prices, a pen costs £189.99 for 5mg, £274.99 for 10mg and £299.99 for 15mg.
Finally, remember what the figures omit. They say nothing about how you will feel, how hard the routine is, or what happens when treatment stops. Those are conversations for your monthly review.
07 · Who is eligible
Who can take weight loss medication from a pharmacy?
Mounjaro is licensed for weight management in adults with a BMI of 30 or above, or a BMI between 27 and 30 with at least one weight-related condition.1 Qualifying conditions include high blood pressure, high cholesterol, obstructive sleep apnoea, cardiovascular disease, prediabetes or type 2 diabetes. It must be used alongside a reduced-calorie diet and increased physical activity.
BMI is your weight in kilograms divided by your height in metres squared. If you are not sure where you sit, a free consultation will help, with no obligation. A prescriber will assess your BMI, medical history and current medicines before deciding whether treatment is suitable for you.
That assessment is the important part. Meeting the BMI threshold makes you eligible on paper, but suitability is a clinical decision. The prescriber looks at the whole picture, including other conditions and what else you take. Payment is taken when you place the order; if the prescriber decides the treatment is not suitable, the order is refunded automatically in full.
People often ask whether they need to be diagnosed with another condition first. The licence says a BMI of 27 to 30 needs at least one weight-related condition; a BMI of 30 or above does not.
Tell the prescriber about everything you take. Because Mounjaro slows stomach emptying, it can affect how quickly some oral medicines are absorbed, particularly when you start or increase the dose.1 You should also read the patient information leaflet that comes with every pen.13
If you are under a hospital or specialist team for diabetes or heart disease, mention it. It does not necessarily stop you, but it helps the prescriber decide, and your regular clinicians should know about any new medicine.
Not everyone is suitable, and not everyone who is eligible needs medication. If you do not meet the criteria, a prescriber can still point you to other support. Our free consultation takes a few minutes, is reviewed by a GPhC-registered prescriber, and carries no charge.
08 · NHS or private
NHS or private: how do you get weight loss medication?
Mounjaro is available on the NHS, but access is being phased in over several years.6 NICE recommends it for adults with a BMI of at least 35 plus at least one weight-related condition.4 The NHS primary-care rollout began in June 2025 with the highest-need groups first, initially people with a BMI of 40 or above and four or more qualifying conditions.
Full rollout is expected to take years. That is the honest position, and it answers the common question “do I qualify for Mounjaro on the NHS?”: you may, if you are in a group that has been reached, and your GP is the person who can confirm where you sit in the phasing. Ask your GP surgery; do not rely on a website to tell you.
The NHS route has real advantages. There is no medicine cost to you beyond any usual prescription charge, which in England is £9.90 per item where it applies, and care sits within your local NHS team. The trade-off is waiting: if you meet the licensed criteria but are not yet in an NHS group, you may be waiting a long time.
That is why many people who meet the licensed criteria choose regulated private treatment rather than waiting. Private treatment through a GPhC-registered pharmacy gives you a prescriber review, genuine product and clinical follow-up, with pricing you can see up front. It costs money, and you should weigh that honestly.
The two routes are not exclusive of care. If you start privately and your NHS eligibility later arrives, talk to your GP about it and tell them about your current treatment. Your prescriber can help with the information your GP needs.
Wegovy follows a similar pattern in that NHS access to it runs through specialist weight-management services; ask your GP.
Whichever route you take, treatment is meant to sit alongside a reduced-calorie diet and increased physical activity. Neither route removes that part. For a clear view of private costs, see our monthly cost guide.
09 · Other medicines compared
Mounjaro, Wegovy, tablets and liraglutide compared
The main prescription alternatives to Mounjaro are Wegovy (semaglutide) injections, newer daily tablets and the older daily liraglutide injection.
| Medicine | Form and frequency | Key facts from product information |
|---|---|---|
| Mounjaro (tirzepatide) | Weekly injection, KwikPen | Activates GIP and GLP-1 receptors; six strengths from 2.5mg to 15mg1 |
| Wegovy (semaglutide) | Weekly injection | Pens of 0.25mg, 0.5mg, 1mg, 1.7mg and 2.4mg; step up after at least 4 weeks, reaching 2.4mg maintenance from week 1718 |
| Wegovy tablets (oral semaglutide) | Daily tablet | See current Wegovy tablet prices on our treatments page20 |
| Foundayo (orforglipron) | Daily tablet | See our treatments page for current information21 |
| Liraglutide (Saxenda and similar) | Daily injection | Supplied at 6mg per millilitre; figures vary, so your prescriber can advise |
Is there a tablet equivalent to Mounjaro? There are GLP-1 tablets, including Wegovy tablets and Foundayo, but they are different medicines from Mounjaro, with their own dosing, eligibility checks and trial results.
What about “the new drug better than Mounjaro”? No medicine is best for everyone; your prescriber decides what suits you.
The practical differences are mostly about routine and tolerance. A weekly injection means one action a week; a daily tablet or injection means remembering every day. Some people prefer not to inject; others prefer to do it once a week and forget about it. Your prescriber can talk through which fits you, including what you have tried before.
Switching between medicines is a prescriber decision. Because tirzepatide takes roughly 4–5 weeks to clear the system, any switch should be planned with your prescriber, not done alone.
10 · Safety and supply
Safety, interactions and avoiding counterfeits
Tell your prescriber about everything you take, because Mounjaro slows stomach emptying and can affect how quickly some oral medicines are absorbed, particularly when you start treatment or increase the dose.1 This matters most for warfarin and other narrow-margin medicines. For insulin or sulfonylureas, doses may need reducing to avoid low blood sugar; that is an adjustment your prescriber manages, not a ban on using them together. No adjustment is needed for paracetamol.
Contraception needs a mention. Mounjaro can reduce absorption of oral contraceptives because stomach emptying slows.7 The SmPC advises switching to a non-oral method, or adding a barrier method (such as condoms), for 4 weeks after starting Mounjaro and for 4 weeks after each dose increase.1 Discuss it with your prescriber, who will advise what is right for you.
On side effects, read the patient information leaflet supplied with each pen and discuss any new symptoms with your prescriber.13 Seek immediate medical help for severe, persistent stomach pain that may spread to your back, with or without vomiting (possible pancreatitis); pain in the upper right abdomen, fever or yellowing of skin/eyes (possible gallbladder problems); or signs of a severe allergic reaction such as swelling of the face or throat and difficulty breathing. You can also report suspected side effects through the MHRA Yellow Card scheme.19 Our team offers side-effect support as part of ongoing monthly reviews.
Counterfeit and unregulated products are a real risk with injectable weight loss medicines. The MHRA publishes counterfeit medicine alerts.7 Protect yourself by checking the seller is on the GPhC register, never buying from sellers offering to supply without a consultation or prescription, and being wary of social-media offers. Our Mounjaro comes through official LillyDirect supply as genuine KwikPens.
What about over-the-counter options? People often ask about weight loss drugs to buy over the counter. Over-the-counter products and supplements, including those marketed as “nature's Ozempic”, are available cheaply without assessment and have no clinical oversight. Dosing is not standardised, and dramatic weight-loss claims on them should be treated with caution. They are not the same as prescription GLP-1 medicines. If you want to try a medicine rather than a supplement, a consultation is the safe route.
There is no established trick that replaces assessment, a reduced-calorie diet and increased physical activity.
Mounjaro is a prescription-only medicine, supplied only after an online consultation reviewed by a GPhC-registered prescriber. This page is information, not a substitute for medical advice.
11 · How ordering works
How ordering works, step by step
Payment is taken when you place the order; if the prescriber decides the treatment is not suitable, the order is refunded automatically in full. The process is the same whether you are starting at 2.5mg or moving over from another provider at a higher dose.
Step 1: free online consultation. You complete a short health questionnaire. It is free, with no obligation. The questions cover your health, your medicines and your goals so the prescriber has what they need.
Step 2: prescriber review. Your answers are reviewed by a GPhC-registered prescriber, not a scoring script. If treatment is not suitable, your order is refunded automatically in full.
Step 3: dispensing and dispatch. Approved orders are dispensed by our registered pharmacy. Orders placed by 3pm are dispatched the same day.
Step 4: delivery. Delivery is free, next-day and tracked by DPD, in temperature-controlled, discreet packaging. Saturday delivery is £14.99. Needles, a sharps bin and injection guidance are included with every order.
Pricing is simple. A new customer saves £40 on their first order with code FIRST40 at any dose, and an automatic £25 reorder discount applies to every future order (code DOSE25). The price shown is the price paid; there are no hidden fees. You can pay by Visa, Mastercard or Klarna, with pay-monthly options and no subscription.
Aftercare matters as much as the first pen. Ongoing monthly reviews, dose-titration and follow-up assessments are carried out by our prescribing team. Repeat orders re-check suitability, and nothing ships automatically, so you stay in control of when you continue. Our free GLPTrackr companion app, on iOS and Android, helps you track your journey.
Support runs Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm, by email at support@everydaymeds.co.uk, through the account portal chat or by phone on 0333 207 0413. Dispensed prescription medicines cannot be returned except where faulty, damaged or the wrong item; contact us within 3 days. Refunds take 5–10 working days.
More than 100,000 customers have been supported on their weight loss journey with us; that is a measure of customers served, not a promise about results. When you are ready, view Mounjaro pen prices and start a consultation.
How ordering works
How ordering works at EverydayMeds
Three steps, with our pharmacy team alongside you.
Step 1: Online consultation — 5–10 minutes
Complete a confidential health questionnaire covering BMI, medical history and current medication. No payment is taken until you're approved.
Step 2: Prescriber review — usually same day
A UK registered prescriber checks your suitability against the licensed criteria (BMI ≥30, or ≥27 with a weight-related condition) and contraindications, and confirms your starting dose.
Step 3: Next-day tracked delivery
Dispensed by our GPhC-registered pharmacy in temperature-controlled packaging with needles and a sharps bin included. Orders approved by 3pm for next-day tracked delivery.
Prescription and dispatch follow clinical approval. Confirm current delivery options when ordering.
Afterwards you're not on your own: dose-change reviews are built in before each step up, our pharmacist team is available for side-effect questions, and repeat orders re-check suitability rather than auto-shipping.
