60 Units of Tirzepatide Is How Many mg? (October 2026)

60 units of tirzepatide has no single mg answer, because units measure the liquid volume drawn into a syringe and the mg depends on the concentration written on your vial label. The licensed UK Mounjaro KwikPen is dialled in mg, never in units, and its highest weekly dose is 15mg.1

A quick overview

What to know
before you start.

  • Units are a volume on a syringe; mg is the amount of medicine. You need the concentration (mg per mL) on the label to convert.
  • The UK Mounjaro KwikPen is set in mg by turning the dial until the dose shows in the window. No unit maths is involved.
  • Licensed Mounjaro doses run from 2.5mg to 15mg weekly, so any conversion that gives a figure above 15mg is a warning sign.
  • If your product is a vial with a syringe rather than a KwikPen, ask the supplier to write the dose in mg and mL, not just units.
  • Never guess a conversion from an online chart. Check with a pharmacist or prescriber before you inject.
In this guide

01 · The core answer

The short answer: it depends on the concentration

To turn units into mg, you need to know how many mg of tirzepatide sit in each millilitre of liquid in your vial. A syringe marked in units tells you only how much liquid you have drawn up. It says nothing about how strong that liquid is.

The rule is simple. Work out the volume your units represent, then multiply that volume by the mg-per-mL figure on the label. Two vials with different concentrations will give different mg amounts from exactly the same 60 units. That is why the answers you see online disagree with each other: each one quietly assumes a different vial.

If the label does not state the concentration clearly, do not inject. Contact whoever supplied it and ask for the dose in mg and in mL.

02 · Is this relevant to you?

If you use a Mounjaro KwikPen, you do not use units at all

The licensed Mounjaro product is a pre-filled multi-dose pen. It comes in six strengths: 2.5mg, 5mg, 7.5mg, 10mg, 12.5mg and 15mg.1 You set the pen by turning the dose knob until the dose indicator shows the correct dose in the window. You confirm the dose by the number in the window, never by counting clicks.13

So the question "how many units is my dose?" does not arise with a KwikPen. Your prescriber states a dose in mg, you dial that dose, and the pen does the measuring. If someone gave you a unit figure for a pen, treat that figure with suspicion and ask your pharmacist to confirm the mg dose.

The Mounjaro pen is available after a free online consultation, and the 2.5mg starter pen costs £169.99 at the standard price. New customers save £40 on a first order with code FIRST40. We stock all six doses, which are currently in stock.

03 · What to do next

What to do next if you only have a unit figure

First, find the label and note the concentration, usually written as mg per mL. Second, check the dose your prescriber actually intended, written in mg. Third, compare it against the licensed ladder: a weekly dose never goes above 15mg.1 If your calculation lands above that, something is wrong with the concentration, the unit figure or the product itself, and you should stop and ask.

If you want a regulated route with doses stated in mg from the start, start with our weight loss clinic, where every order is reviewed by a GPhC-registered prescriber.

Related guides: 60 units of mounjaro and 40 units to mg tirzepatide and 12.5 units of tirzepatide is how many mg and How many mg is 10 units of mounjaro and How many mg is 70 units of tirzepatide.

04 · Units versus milligrams

Units versus milligrams: two different measurements

A unit on an insulin-style syringe is a marking for volume. It is a convenient way to draw up small amounts of liquid, and it was designed around insulin. A milligram is a weight of medicine. The two only connect through concentration.

Think of squash. A glass filled to the same line holds the same volume whether the squash is strong or weak, but the amount of flavour differs. A syringe filled to the same mark works the same way: the volume is fixed by the markings, and the amount of tirzepatide depends entirely on how concentrated the liquid is.

This is why a general chart is dangerous. A chart can only be right for the exact concentration it assumes. If your vial differs from that assumption, every row in the chart is wrong for you, and the error can be large. The error also scales up with the number of units you draw, so a high unit count magnifies any mistake in the assumed concentration.

05 · The conversion method

The conversion method, without the guesswork

The method has three parts, and none of them involves a chart.

  • Find the concentration. It is printed on the vial label or the dispensing label, written as mg per mL.
  • Find the volume. Read the syringe's own instructions or ask your pharmacist how its unit markings relate to millilitres.
  • Multiply. Volume multiplied by concentration gives the amount in mg.

Then compare the result with what your prescriber wrote. If your prescriber wrote a dose in mg, your target is that mg figure, and the unit mark on the syringe is simply the way to reach it. Work backwards from the mg dose you were prescribed, not forwards from a number someone told you to draw up.

Always get a pharmacist or prescriber to check your working the first time. A second pair of eyes costs nothing and catches the commonest slip, which is using the wrong concentration for the vial in your hand.

06 · Why the KwikPen avoids this

Why the KwikPen removes the maths

The KwikPen is built so that nobody has to convert anything. Each pen contains four weekly doses; the pen will not let you dial past the medicine left inside.13 If the window will not turn to a full dose, the pen does not contain enough for one and should not be used for a partial injection.13

That design protects you from two common errors: drawing up the wrong volume, and combining leftovers from different pens. It also means the dose you see in the window is the dose you inject, which is why the pen is the format the UK licence describes.1

Mounjaro is the brand name for tirzepatide, a once-weekly injectable prescription medicine made by Eli Lilly. In the UK it is licensed for weight management in adults and for type 2 diabetes.1 Our supply is genuine KwikPens through official LillyDirect supply, direct from Eli Lilly's UK distribution.

07 · The licensed dose ladder

The licensed dose ladder, in mg

Everyone starts Mounjaro on 2.5mg once a week. This starting dose is about letting your body adjust, not about weight loss itself. After at least 4 weeks the dose increases to 5mg, and can then step up by 2.5mg at a minimum of 4-week intervals (7.5mg, 10mg, 12.5mg) up to a maximum of 15mg weekly, depending on how you respond and tolerate it.1

Many people settle at a maintenance dose of 5mg, 10mg or 15mg. Higher is not automatically better, and your prescriber will guide the right pace.4

Use this ladder as your reality check. Whatever your unit arithmetic says, the answer must be one of these licensed strengths. If your result lands between steps, or above the maximum, your concentration assumption is probably wrong.

08 · Vials, unlicensed supply and risk

Vials and unit-based dosing: the safety picture

Unit-based dosing appears when tirzepatide is sold as a vial rather than as the licensed pen. The licensed UK product described in the prescribing information is the pre-filled KwikPen, and that is the format our pharmacy dispenses.1 A vial supplied outside that route may have no licensed dosing instructions, and the concentration may differ from one seller to the next.

The MHRA publishes counterfeit medicine alerts and runs the Yellow Card scheme for reporting problems.7 Treat any seller offering to supply without a consultation or prescription as a red flag. Check that a UK pharmacy appears on the GPhC register; ours is registered under 9012878.

Altering the way a dose is delivered carries its own risk. "Microdosing", meaning smaller or more spread-out doses than the pen is designed to deliver, is not licensed, not supported by the pen's design and not endorsed by any UK regulator. Altering doses outside the licence means unknown dosing accuracy and no safety data.1

09 · Injecting and storing correctly

Injecting, timing and storage

Mounjaro is injected under the skin (subcutaneously) once a week, on the same day each week, at any time of day, with or without food. Licensed injection sites are the stomach area (at least 5cm from the belly button), the front of the thigh, or the back of the upper arm if someone else gives the injection. Rotate the site with each dose.13

Keep Mounjaro pens in a fridge at 2–8°C and never freeze them. Once in use, a pen can be kept out of the fridge not above 30°C for up to 30 days, after which it should be discarded. Keep the pen cap on to protect it from light.1

If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you can within 4 days (96 hours) of the scheduled time. If more than 4 days have passed, skip the missed dose entirely and take the next one on your normal day. Never take two doses within 3 days of each other.13 You can change your weekly injection day as long as at least 3 days (72 hours) have passed since your last dose.13

10 · What results to expect

What results to expect at each dose

In the SURMOUNT-1 trial of 2,539 adults, people taking tirzepatide alongside diet and exercise lost on average 15% of their body weight on 5mg, 19.5% on 10mg and 20.9% on 15mg over 72 weeks, compared with 3.1% with lifestyle changes alone. These are trial averages, individual results vary, and treatment works alongside a reduced-calorie diet and increased physical activity, not instead of them.2

Notice that these results are tied to the licensed mg strengths. Nobody has measured outcomes for a dose described only as a number of syringe units, which is another reason to translate everything back to mg with your prescriber.

Weight loss on Mounjaro is gradual by design. The first weeks on 2.5mg are an adjustment phase and losses are usually modest. Most measurable progress builds from 5mg onward, month by month.4

11 · NHS and private routes

NHS and private routes to a prescribed dose

Mounjaro is available on the NHS, but access is being phased in over several years. NICE recommends it for adults with a BMI of at least 35 plus at least one weight-related condition, and the NHS primary-care rollout began in June 2025 with the highest-need groups first (initially BMI 40+ with four or more qualifying conditions).4 Full rollout is expected to take years, which is why many people who meet the licensed criteria choose regulated private treatment rather than waiting.

With us, the process starts with a free online consultation. A GPhC-registered prescriber reviews it, and if the prescriber decides the treatment is not suitable, the order is refunded automatically in full. Dispatch is the same day when you order by 3pm, with free next-day tracked delivery in temperature-controlled packaging. Our team also provides ongoing monthly reviews and dose titration, so you always get your dose in mg.

Your questions, answered

Mounjaro price UK — frequently asked questions

Answers to common questions about Mounjaro prices, NHS access and ongoing treatment.

Ask our pharmacy team
Are units the same as milligrams?
No. Units measure the volume of liquid in a syringe, while milligrams measure the weight of the medicine in it. They only connect through the concentration (mg per mL) printed on your vial label. Without that figure, a unit count cannot be turned into a reliable mg dose.
Does a Mounjaro KwikPen use units?
No. The KwikPen is set by turning the dose knob until the correct dose shows in the window, and you confirm it by that number, never by counting clicks. The strengths are 2.5mg, 5mg, 7.5mg, 10mg, 12.5mg and 15mg, so there is no unit conversion to do.
What is the highest licensed Mounjaro dose?
The maximum licensed dose is 15mg weekly. Treatment starts at 2.5mg, rises to 5mg after at least 4 weeks, then can step up by 2.5mg at minimum 4-week intervals depending on response and tolerance. If a unit calculation gives a figure above 15mg, the concentration or product needs checking.
Is a higher tirzepatide dose always better?
No. Many people settle at a maintenance dose of 5mg, 10mg or 15mg, and higher is not automatically better. Your prescriber guides the pace based on how you respond and tolerate each step. Trial averages differ by dose, but individual results vary.
What are the common side effects early on?
Mild nausea, altered appetite and tiredness in the first days after each injection are the commonest early effects, and they usually settle. If you notice a new or worrying symptom, speak to your prescriber and report it through the MHRA Yellow Card scheme. Seek immediate medical help for severe, persistent stomach pain that may spread to your back, with or without vomiting (possible pancreatitis); pain in the upper right abdomen, fever or yellowing of skin/eyes (possible gallbladder problems); or signs of a severe allergic reaction such as swelling of the face or throat and difficulty breathing.
How do you inject tirzepatide in the thigh?
The front of the thigh is a licensed injection site, alongside the stomach area (at least 5cm from the belly button) and the back of the upper arm if someone else injects. Inject under the skin, follow your pen's instructions, and rotate the site with each dose.
When is the best time of day to inject?
There is no best time of day. Mounjaro works the same morning or evening, with or without food. What matters is the same day each week. Choose a day and time you will remember; many people pick a weekend morning so early side effects fall on days off.
