A quick overview

What to know
before you start.

  • Stop Mounjaro as soon as you know or suspect you are pregnant, and tell your prescriber promptly.
  • Mounjaro must not be used in pregnancy and should be stopped at least one month before trying to conceive.
  • Tirzepatide has a half-life of about five days and takes roughly 4–5 weeks to clear; you cannot speed this up.
  • The pill can be less effective on Mounjaro, so use a non-oral or barrier method for 4 weeks after starting and after each dose increase.
  • Contact your GP or midwife early and give them your last injection date.

01 · Next steps

What to do if you find out you are pregnant on Mounjaro

Stop your weekly injections straight away and tell your prescriber promptly. Do not take a final "catch-up" dose, and do not alter doses to ease off.

StepWhat to do
1Confirm the pregnancy with a test, then stop injecting.
2Tell your prescriber promptly. If you buy from us, contact the team on 0333 207 0413 (Monday–Friday 9am–5pm) or email support@everydaymeds.co.uk.
3Contact your GP or midwife and give them your last injection date and dose.

Because tirzepatide takes about 4–5 weeks to leave the body, some of it remains for a while after your last dose.1

02 · Planning a pregnancy

Stopping before you try to conceive

Mounjaro should be stopped at least one month before trying to conceive.1 Because the medicine takes roughly 4–5 weeks to clear, build that into your timing and talk to your prescriber first.1 Mounjaro is not suitable for everyone. You should not take it if you are allergic to tirzepatide or any of its ingredients, and it should not be used during pregnancy or while trying to conceive. Always share your full medical history and medicine list during consultation.

For a deeper look, see our guides on getting pregnant on Mounjaro and whether it is dangerous.

03 · Contraception

Why contraception matters on Mounjaro

Mounjaro slows stomach emptying, which can reduce how well oral contraceptive pills are absorbed.1 The SmPC advises switching to a non-oral method, or adding a barrier method such as condoms, for 4 weeks after starting and for 4 weeks after each dose increase.1 This applies to the pill only; implants, coils and injections are unaffected.1

With PCOS, improving weight can restore ovulation, so effective contraception still matters if you are not planning pregnancy.1 Mounjaro is not licensed specifically for PCOS, but weight loss itself is a first-line recommendation that can improve insulin resistance, cycles and symptoms. Mention PCOS and any fertility plans in your consultation.

04 · After the baby

Breastfeeding and restarting treatment

Current prescribing information indicates minimal transfer of tirzepatide into breast milk, so discuss breastfeeding with your prescriber so the decision reflects your circumstances.1 Whether and when to restart is a decision to make with your prescriber and midwife or GP. Mounjaro manages weight; it does not cure the biology behind it. In SURMOUNT-4, people who stopped tirzepatide after 36 weeks regained on average 14% of body weight over the following year, while those who continued treatment lost a further 5.5% on average. Stopping should always be planned with your prescriber, with diet and activity habits ready to carry the load.

How ordering works

How ordering works at EverydayMeds

Three steps, with our pharmacy team alongside you.

  1. EverydayMeds online consultation on a mobile phone

Complete a confidential health questionnaire covering BMI, medical history and current medication. No payment is taken until you're approved.

  2. A clinician ready to review an online consultation

Step 2: Prescriber review — usually same day

A UK registered prescriber checks your suitability against the licensed criteria (BMI ≥30, or ≥27 with a weight-related condition) and contraindications, and confirms your starting dose.

  3. An EverydayMeds delivery box

    Step 3: Next-day tracked delivery

Dispensed by our GPhC-registered pharmacy in temperature-controlled packaging with needles and a sharps bin included. Orders approved by 3pm for next-day tracked delivery.
