A quick overview

What to know
before you start.

  • Mounjaro (tirzepatide) and Wegovy (semaglutide) are the two main once-weekly injections in the UK market; liraglutide is a daily injection.
  • Mounjaro activates two gut-hormone receptors, GIP and GLP-1, while semaglutide acts on GLP-1 alone.
  • Across the UK pharmacies we track, Mounjaro pens range from £143.96 to £339.00 per month, depending on dose and provider.
  • NHS access is phased in over several years, so many eligible adults choose regulated private treatment.
  • No single drug is best for everyone: a GPhC-registered prescriber matches treatment to your BMI, history and medicines.

01 · The short answer

What the prescription weight loss market looks like in the UK

The market is now built around injectable medicines that act on gut-hormone pathways. Mounjaro (tirzepatide), made by Eli Lilly, and Wegovy (semaglutide) are the two main once-weekly injections. Liraglutide, sold as Saxenda and in other products, is a daily injection rather than a weekly one. Tablet options such as Wegovy tablets and Foundayo have also entered the picture.

Mounjaro is licensed in the UK for weight management in adults and for type 2 diabetes. It comes as a multi-dose KwikPen in six strengths: 2.5mg, 5mg, 7.5mg, 10mg, 12.5mg and 15mg.1 Wegovy comes in 0.25mg, 0.5mg, 1mg, 1.7mg and 2.4mg pens, stepping up after at least 4 weeks to the 2.4mg maintenance dose from week 17.18

If you want the wider shortlist, our guide to effective prescription weight loss medications goes through each option. To see whether the basics apply to you, read whether prescription weight loss medications exist.

03 · Cost

What Mounjaro costs with EverydayMeds

The standard price of one 2.5mg pen (4 weeks) is £169.99, and a new customer's first order at any dose is £40 less with code FIRST40. Your first 2.5mg pen therefore costs £129.99 (standard price £169.99). Switching to us at 15mg? Your first order is £289.99. Every later order is £25 off the standard price (code DOSE25), with no subscription.

If you step up after 4 weeks on each dose, your first four pens (2.5mg to 10mg) cost £959.96 at standard prices, before discounts. A first year (13 pens) costs £2,711.88 if you settle at 5mg, up to £3,599.88 at 15mg, again before discounts. At 7.5mg, 10mg or 12.5mg the monthly prices are £279.99, £290.99 and £319.99. Doses are all in stock, and you can see them on the Mounjaro prices UK page.

04 · How to order

How ordering works

Ordering takes three steps. First, you complete a free online consultation, a short health questionnaire with no charge and no obligation. Start your free consultation to begin.

Second, a GPhC-registered prescriber reviews your answers. Payment is taken when you place the order; if the prescriber decides the treatment is not suitable, the order is refunded automatically in full. Third, our registered pharmacy dispenses your order, with same-day dispatch when you order by 3pm. Delivery is free, next-day, tracked and temperature-controlled in discreet packaging; Saturday delivery is £14.99.

We supply Mounjaro through official LillyDirect supply, direct from Eli Lilly's UK distribution, and the consultation is free: the price shown is the price paid. Our 100,000+ customers figure describes customers served, not results. You can also buy Mounjaro directly from our hub page.

05 · Who makes what

Who makes the main prescription weight loss medicines

Two manufacturers shape the market. Eli Lilly makes Mounjaro (tirzepatide), and Novo Nordisk makes Wegovy (semaglutide). Both are licensed prescription medicines, and both are used alongside a reduced-calorie diet and increased physical activity. Competition between the two firms is a large part of why this category changes so quickly.

Mounjaro is a once-weekly injectable made by Eli Lilly. In the UK it is licensed for weight management in adults and for type 2 diabetes, and it comes in a pre-filled multi-dose KwikPen.1 There are six strengths: 2.5mg, 5mg, 7.5mg, 10mg, 12.5mg and 15mg.

Wegovy is also once weekly. Its pens are 0.25mg, 0.5mg, 1mg, 1.7mg and 2.4mg. Titration steps up after at least 4 weeks and reaches the 2.4mg maintenance dose from week 17, which is the licensed maintenance dose for weight management.18

Liraglutide, sold as Saxenda and in other products, is supplied at 6mg per millilitre. The main practical difference is that it is a daily injection, unlike the weekly Mounjaro and Wegovy. For many people, the weekly versus daily schedule is a real part of the decision, because it changes how often you handle a pen and plan around injections.

Tablets are the newest part of the market. Wegovy tablets (oral semaglutide) and Foundayo (orforglipron) each have their own UK product information.2021 For current Wegovy tablet prices, see our weight loss treatments page.

Beyond the manufacturers, the market includes pharmacies and online prescribing services. If you are weighing up providers, check the GPhC register entry for any pharmacy you consider. Ours is GPhC 9012878, and you can verify it on the GPhC register.12 A legitimate seller is registered, supplies only after a consultation reviewed by a prescriber, and does not offer prescription-only medicines without one.

06 · How tirzepatide works

How tirzepatide differs from single-action medicines

Tirzepatide is the first treatment of its kind to activate two natural gut-hormone receptors at once: GIP and GLP-1.1 Together these help regulate appetite, slow how quickly the stomach empties, and improve the way the body responds to insulin. This dual action is what distinguishes Mounjaro from single-action GLP-1 medicines such as semaglutide (Wegovy and Ozempic).

In practice, most people feel fuller sooner and less hungry between meals. That supports a reduced-calorie diet, which remains the foundation of treatment. The medicine does not replace food choices or movement; it makes them easier to sustain for many people.

Slower stomach emptying also explains why the medicine can affect how quickly some oral medicines are absorbed, particularly when you start treatment or increase the dose.

Tirzepatide has a half-life of about five days. After a final dose it takes roughly 4–5 weeks to clear the system.1 There is no way to speed this up, and nothing needs doing while it clears. That is useful to know if you are weighing up a break or a switch, because the medicine does not disappear the day after your last injection.

When people compare options, the mechanism is the clearest factual difference between Mounjaro and semaglutide: two receptors rather than one. Mechanism alone does not tell you which medicine will suit you. Your tolerance, other medicines, preferences and prescriber's judgement matter just as much.

For the practical dosing detail, the BNF and the SmPC are the reference documents.11 Your prescriber follows them when setting your starting dose and any step up. If you want to see how the review step works before committing to anything, our page on online doctor consultations for prescription weight loss explains the process.

07 · What trials show

What the main Mounjaro trial shows

In SURMOUNT-1, a trial of 2,539 adults, people taking tirzepatide alongside diet and exercise lost on average 15% of their body weight on 5mg, 19.5% on 10mg and 20.9% on 15mg over 72 weeks. The comparison group, using lifestyle changes alone, lost 3.1%.2

These are trial averages. Individual results vary, and treatment works alongside a reduced-calorie diet and increased physical activity, not instead of them. Trial averages do not predict your own result.

The trial also reports how many people crossed particular thresholds. At 72 weeks, 85% of participants on 5mg, 89% on 10mg and 91% on 15mg had lost at least 5% of their body weight. Half of participants on 10mg and 57% on 15mg lost at least 20% of their body weight.2

To make the percentages concrete, here is a worked example. For someone starting at 100 kg, 20.9% is about 21 kg, and 15% is about 15 kg.

It matters what this does and does not tell you. SURMOUNT-1 is a single trial of one medicine against lifestyle changes alone. It is not a comparison with other drugs, so it does not tell you that tirzepatide beats another medicine. SURMOUNT-5 was the first large head-to-head trial of tirzepatide and semaglutide for weight loss.15

Similarly, Wegovy has its own trial (STEP 1), and liraglutide has its own studies.9 Placing numbers from different trials side by side can mislead, because populations, doses and designs differ. A fair reading is that several prescription medicines have been tested in published trials, and your prescriber can say which fits you.

If you want a broader walk-through of the options, see effective prescription weight loss medications for 2026.

08 · Eligibility

Who can be prescribed weight loss medication

Mounjaro is licensed for weight management in adults with a BMI of 30 or above, or a BMI between 27 and 30 with at least one weight-related condition. Examples include high blood pressure, high cholesterol, obstructive sleep apnoea, cardiovascular disease, prediabetes or type 2 diabetes.1 It must be used alongside a reduced-calorie diet and increased physical activity.

A prescriber will assess your BMI, medical history and current medicines before deciding whether it is suitable for you. That assessment is the point of the consultation: it is a clinical judgement, not a form that spits out a yes or no. For a fuller walk-through of the criteria, see how to qualify for prescription weight loss medications.

Eligibility differs between the licence and NHS access. The licence sets who may be prescribed the medicine privately. NHS access follows NICE guidance and local rollout, which is narrower for now.

NHS or private?

Mounjaro is available on the NHS, but access is being phased in over several years. NICE recommends it for adults with a BMI of at least 35 plus at least one weight-related condition. The NHS primary-care rollout began in June 2025 with the highest-need groups first, initially BMI 40+ with four or more qualifying conditions.46

Full rollout is expected to take years, which is why many people who meet the licensed criteria choose regulated private treatment rather than waiting. NHS access to Wegovy runs through specialist weight-management services; ask your GP.

Neither route is better in every case. If you qualify for NHS treatment and can access it, that is a sound option. If you meet the licensed criteria but are not yet in an NHS group, a private route reviewed by a GPhC-registered prescriber is a legitimate alternative. You can check the NHS's own overview of the medicine on its tirzepatide page.5

Employers sometimes ask how these medicines fit into health benefits; our page on weight loss medications and employer healthcare costs looks at that angle.

09 · Price landscape

How Mounjaro pricing moved and where it sits now

The biggest price event in the UK market was Eli Lilly's list-price increase for Mounjaro. Lilly announced it on 14 August 2025, effective 1 September 2025.

List prices are not what every pharmacy charges. Pharmacy sell prices vary because of confidential discounts. That is why a price comparison matters more now than it did when the range was narrower.

Our own index tracks the UK pharmacies we track and was last checked 12 October 2026. Across those pharmacies, Mounjaro pens range from £143.96 to £339.00 per month depending on dose and provider. For the 2.5mg starting pen alone, the range is £143.96 to £179.99. For the same dose, the gap between providers runs from £27 to £41. Boots' dose prices run from £179.00 to £339.00.

Those gaps show why it is worth comparing like with like: the same dose, the same medicine, the same month. Look for what the price includes. Our consultation is free, delivery is free and next-day, and you pay no subscription. The price shown is the price paid.

Planning a year

A realistic budget needs more than the starting pen. A first year costs £2,711.88 if you settle at 5mg, up to £3,599.88 at 15mg. Those totals are before discounts: a new customer's first order is £40 less, and every later order is £25 less.

Payment is by Visa or Mastercard, Klarna and pay-monthly options. See our Mounjaro prices UK guide for the dose-by-dose view. You can also see the Mounjaro pen prices and consultation page, where today's prices render live.

10 · Safety

Safety, interactions and counterfeit risk

Safe use starts with a full medicines review. Because Mounjaro slows stomach emptying, it can affect how quickly some oral medicines are absorbed, particularly when you start treatment or increase the dose.1 Tell your prescriber about everything you take.

Pay particular attention to warfarin or other narrow-margin medicines, insulin and sulfonylureas. For insulin and sulfonylureas, doses may need reducing to avoid low blood sugar; they are not a reason you can never use them with Mounjaro. No adjustment is needed for paracetamol.13

The medicine can also reduce absorption of oral contraceptives because stomach emptying slows. The SmPC advises switching to a non-oral method, or adding a barrier method (such as condoms), for 4 weeks after starting Mounjaro and for 4 weeks after each dose increase.1 The MHRA has guidance on this, so ask your prescriber what applies to you.7

Side effects and new symptoms

Side effects are listed in the patient information leaflet, so read the leaflet that comes with your pen.13 If you notice a new symptom, speak to your prescriber. You can also report suspected side effects through the MHRA Yellow Card scheme.19 Serious side effects are uncommon but need urgent attention. Seek immediate medical help for: severe, persistent stomach pain that may spread to your back, with or without vomiting (possible pancreatitis); pain in the upper right abdomen, fever or yellowing of skin/eyes (possible gallbladder problems); or signs of a severe allergic reaction such as swelling of the face or throat and difficulty breathing. Our aftercare includes ongoing monthly reviews, dose titration, follow-up assessments and side-effect support from the prescribing team.

Counterfeit medicines

High demand creates an opening for fake products. The MHRA publishes counterfeit medicine alerts, and its guidance is a sensible first check.7 Warning signs include anyone offering to supply without a consultation or prescription, unusually low prices and unregistered sellers.

Check the seller on the GPhC register. Our Mounjaro comes through official LillyDirect supply, direct from Eli Lilly's UK distribution, as genuine KwikPens. Needles, a sharps bin and injection guidance are included with every order. Follow the pen's instructions for injecting.

Repeat orders re-check suitability, and there is no auto-shipping. That is deliberate: your health and medicines can change between orders.

11 · Supplements and claims

Supplements, "poor man's Ozempic" and other claims

The phrase "poor man's Ozempic" is usually attached to berberine and similar supplements. These are low-cost supplements with no clinical oversight, and the label is marketing rather than a medical category. They are not licensed weight management medicines and are not the same as tirzepatide or semaglutide. Dosing is not standardised.

Dramatic weight-loss claims around such products deserve scepticism. If you are curious about what is available without a prescription, our guide to non prescription weight loss medications goes through the options honestly.

Telehealth and online supply

Online prescribing is a normal part of the UK market, but it varies in quality. A legitimate service asks health questions, has a prescriber review them and supplies only if the medicine is suitable. It does not offer to supply without a consultation or prescription. Our guide on whether you can obtain prescription weight loss medications through telehealth explains what to expect.

Reliable information, side effects and mood

A medicine's published trials and product information are the reliable sources.

Tell your prescriber about any new or lasting symptom, and report suspected side effects through the MHRA Yellow Card scheme.7

Regulators have looked at whether GLP-1 medicines are linked to low mood or suicidal thoughts: the EMA's safety committee reviewed the evidence and concluded in 2024 that it does not support a causal link, and the MHRA keeps this under continuous review.17 Tell your prescriber about any history of depression, and seek help promptly if your mood drops or you have distressing thoughts during treatment.

If you have thoughts of harming yourself or ending your life, get help straight away. Call 999 or go to A&E if you are in immediate danger. In England you can call NHS 111 and choose the mental health option, any time. You can also call Samaritans free on 116 123, day or night. Tell your prescriber about any change in your mood while taking Mounjaro.

This page is information, not a substitute for medical advice. Mounjaro (tirzepatide) is a prescription-only medicine, supplied only after an online consultation reviewed by a GPhC-registered prescriber, and used alongside a reduced-calorie diet and increased physical activity. Individual results vary.

12 · Stopping and switching

Stopping, switching and keeping weight off

People stop or change weight loss medication for many reasons: tolerance, cost, access, a change in health or simply a different plan. There is no single reason, and your prescriber is the right person to talk it through with. Do not change or stop doses on your own without advice.

If you stop Mounjaro, tirzepatide has a half-life of about five days, so after a final dose it takes roughly 4–5 weeks to clear the system.1 There is no way to speed this up, and nothing needs doing while it clears. Mounjaro manages weight; it does not cure the biology behind it. In SURMOUNT-4, people who stopped tirzepatide after 36 weeks regained on average 14% of body weight over the following year, while those who continued treatment lost a further 5.5% on average.14

Whether someone keeps weight off after stopping is individual. The treatment works alongside a reduced-calorie diet and increased physical activity, not instead of them. That is the practical lever you keep after any medicine stops: the habits built during treatment.

Switching between medicines

If you are considering moving from one prescription medicine to another, tell your prescriber what you currently take and at what dose. A switch is a clinical decision, not a simple swap, and doses on one medicine do not translate to another. When you switch to us from another provider at a higher dose, a new customer's first order at any dose is £40 less with code FIRST40.

Looking after your treatment

Ongoing monthly reviews are included, with dose titration and follow-up assessments by the prescribing team. Our GLPTrackr companion app is free on iOS and Android, and helps you track your GLP-1 journey. Support is available Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm, by email at support@everydaymeds.co.uk, through the account portal chat or on 0333 207 0413.

Refund terms are straightforward: orders declined at prescriber review are refunded automatically in full, and refunds take 5–10 working days. Dispensed prescription medicines cannot be returned except faulty, damaged or wrong items, which you should report within 3 days.

For regional readers, we also supply across the UK, including in places such as Glasgow. Our pharmacy overview and ordering routes are covered in how to get Mounjaro in the UK, and in our Mounjaro UK pharmacy overview.

Your questions, answered

Mounjaro price UK — frequently asked questions

Answers to common questions about Mounjaro prices, NHS access and ongoing treatment.

Ask our pharmacy team
What is the best prescription weight loss drug on the market?
No single drug is best for everyone. Mounjaro (tirzepatide) and Wegovy (semaglutide) are the main once-weekly licensed options in the UK, and liraglutide is a daily injection. Mounjaro activates two gut-hormone receptors, GIP and GLP-1, while semaglutide acts on GLP-1 alone. A GPhC-registered prescriber considers your BMI, medical history, current medicines and preferences before recommending anything, so the right choice depends on you rather than a league table.
What is known as the "poor man's Ozempic"?
The nickname is usually applied to berberine and similar supplements, which are low-cost supplements with no clinical oversight. They are not licensed weight management medicines and are not equivalent to prescription GLP-1 treatments such as tirzepatide or semaglutide. Dosing is not standardised, and dramatic weight-loss claims around them should be treated with caution. If you want an evidence-based option, a prescriber can assess whether a licensed medicine is suitable for you.
Will I regain weight if I stop Mounjaro?
Mounjaro manages weight; it does not cure the biology behind it. In the SURMOUNT-4 trial, people who stopped tirzepatide after 36 weeks regained on average 14% of body weight over the following year, while those who continued treatment lost a further 5.5% on average. Stopping should always be planned with your prescriber, with diet and activity habits ready to carry the load. After a final dose, tirzepatide takes roughly 4–5 weeks to clear the system.
Is Mounjaro available on the NHS or only privately?
Mounjaro is available on the NHS, but access is being phased in over several years. NICE recommends it for adults with a BMI of at least 35 plus at least one weight-related condition, and the primary-care rollout began in June 2025 with the highest-need groups first, initially BMI 40+ with four or more qualifying conditions. Many people who meet the licensed criteria choose regulated private treatment rather than waiting.
How much does prescription weight loss medication cost in the UK?
Across the UK pharmacies we track, Mounjaro pens range from £143.96 to £339.00 per month depending on dose and provider, checked 12 October 2026. Our standard 2.5mg pen is £169.99, with free consultation, free next-day delivery and no subscription.
