What changed in the Mounjaro price rise?

Eli Lilly announced the UK list-price increase on 14 August 2025, effective 1 September 2025.¹⁰ List prices went from £92–£122 per month to £133–£330 per month, depending on dose. That is an increase of up to 170% on the highest dose.¹⁰

The list price is what pharmacies are charged before any confidential discounts. It is not what every patient pays. Pharmacy sell prices vary, so two providers can charge different amounts for the same pen on the same day.

What does Mounjaro cost at EverydayMeds now?

The standard price of one 4-week Mounjaro pen is £169.99 at 2.5mg, £189.99 at 5mg, £244.99 at 7.5mg, £274.99 at 10mg, £289.99 at 12.5mg and £299.99 at 15mg. All six doses are in stock. That is £42.50 a week at the starting dose and £75.00 a week at the top dose.

Two discounts sit on top of those standard prices. A new customer gets £40 off their first order at any dose with code FIRST40, including people switching from another provider at a higher dose. After that, an automatic £25 reorder discount applies to every future order (code DOSE25). Your first 2.5mg pen costs £129.99 with the first-order code, against a standard price of £169.99. What does a year of Mounjaro cost after the rise?

These year totals use standard prices, before discounts. A new customer's first order is £40 less, and every later order is £25 less.

Not everyone ends up at 5mg or 15mg. At 7.5mg a pen is £244.99, at 10mg £274.99 and at 12.5mg £289.99.

04 · Who the rise affected

Who did the Mounjaro price rise affect?

The rise affects people who pay for Mounjaro privately. It changed the list price that pharmacies work from, so it feeds through to self-funded patients. The NHS has its own arrangements, and Lilly's statement concerns the UK list price.¹⁰

On the NHS, Mounjaro is available, but access is being phased in over several years. NICE recommends it for adults with a BMI of at least 35 plus at least one weight-related condition. The primary-care rollout began in June 2025 with the highest-need groups first, initially BMI 40+ with four or more qualifying conditions.⁴⁶ Full rollout is expected to take years, which is why many people who meet the licensed criteria choose regulated private treatment rather than waiting.⁵

If you already use Mounjaro privately, nothing about your prescription changes because of the rise. Only the price you pay does. You still need a prescriber to review your suitability before each repeat order.

Why do pharmacy prices differ from the list price?

Pharmacy prices differ because pharmacies receive confidential discounts from the list price and set their own sell prices. That is why you will see a different figure on every provider's page, even for the same pen.

The list price is the starting point, not the shelf price. A higher list price raises the cost base for every pharmacy, but each one decides how much of that to pass on. Mounjaro is licensed as a once-weekly medicine, and its blood levels are designed around a 7-day cycle.

07 · Fake pens and price

Do higher prices increase the risk of fake pens?

Price pressure makes cheap offers more tempting, and that is where the danger sits. The MHRA has seized thousands of fake weight-loss pens in the UK and has issued alerts after falsified Mounjaro pens were identified. Fake pens have caused hospitalisations, and some contained insulin rather than tirzepatide.⁷

Only buy from a pharmacy you can verify on the GPhC register, never from social media, beauty salons or unverified websites. Genuine treatment always involves a prescription and a clinical consultation. Anyone offering to supply without a consultation or prescription is not a legitimate route.

08 · Is it still worth it?

Is Mounjaro still worth the money after the rise?

That depends on whether it is clinically right for you and whether you can sustain the cost. The price rise did not change what the medicine does. In the SURMOUNT-1 trial of 2,539 adults, people taking tirzepatide alongside diet and exercise lost on average 15% of their body weight on 5mg, 19.5% on 10mg and 20.9% on 15mg over 72 weeks, compared with 3.1% with lifestyle changes alone.²

These are trial averages, and individual results vary. For someone starting at 100 kg, 20.9% is about 21 kg. Treatment works alongside a reduced-calorie diet and increased physical activity, not instead of them.²

Because cost is ongoing, think in terms of the whole plan. Tirzepatide has a half-life of about five days, so after a final dose it takes roughly 4–5 weeks to clear the system.¹ Stopping and restarting around price changes is a decision to make with your prescriber, not on your own.

Who can be prescribed Mounjaro privately?

Mounjaro is licensed for weight management in adults with a BMI of 30 or above, or a BMI between 27 and 30 with at least one weight-related condition. Examples are high blood pressure, high cholesterol, obstructive sleep apnoea, cardiovascular disease, prediabetes or type 2 diabetes. It must be used alongside a reduced-calorie diet and increased physical activity.¹¹¹
