What changed in the Mounjaro price increase

Eli Lilly announced the UK increase on 14 August 2025, and it took effect on 1 September 2025.¹⁰ List prices moved from £92–£122 per month to £133–£330 per month, depending on dose. The highest dose saw the largest rise, up to 170%.¹⁰

Avoiding fake pens when prices rise

Price pressure makes cheap offers tempting, but the MHRA has seized thousands of fake weight-loss pens and issued alerts after falsified Mounjaro pens were identified.⁷ Fake pens have caused hospitalisations, and some contained insulin rather than tirzepatide.⁷

Only buy from a pharmacy you can verify on the GPhC register.¹² Never buy from social media, beauty salons or unverified websites. NHS access to Mounjaro

Mounjaro is available on the NHS, but access is being phased in over several years. NICE recommends it for adults with a BMI of at least 35 plus at least one weight-related condition, and the primary-care rollout began in June 2025 with the highest-need groups first, initially BMI 40+ with four or more qualifying conditions.⁴⁶ Full rollout is expected to take years, which is why many people who meet the licensed criteria choose regulated private treatment.

Mounjaro is licensed for adults with a BMI of 30 or above, or between 27 and 30 with at least one weight-related condition such as high blood pressure or type 2 diabetes, alongside a reduced-calorie diet and more activity.¹ In SURMOUNT-1, people lost on average 15% of body weight on 5mg and 20.9% on 15mg over 72 weeks, versus 3.1% with lifestyle changes alone.
