What a year of Mounjaro costs

Monthly price is only half the picture, because dose rises over the first months. If you step up after 4 weeks on each dose, your first four pens (2.5mg to 10mg) cost £879.96 at standard prices. A first 52-week year (13 pens) costs £2,399.88 if you settle at 5mg, up to £3,279.88 at 15mg.

What is the cheapest way to get Mounjaro online?

The cheapest legitimate route is a registered pharmacy with a transparent total price, plus any discount you qualify for. It is not a seller whose price looks too good to be true.

Why do prices vary so much at all? Eli Lilly raised the UK list price of Mounjaro with effect from 1 September 2025, and pharmacies buy at confidential discounts, so sell prices differ between providers.¹⁰ That is one reason a snapshot comparison is useful, and why dated figures matter.

04 · NHS or private

NHS or private: which route costs less?

The NHS route costs the least if you qualify and can access it, but access is being phased in over several years. Mounjaro is available on the NHS, and NICE recommends it for adults with a BMI of at least 35 plus at least one weight-related condition.⁴

The NHS primary-care rollout began in June 2025 with the highest-need groups first, initially BMI 40+ with four or more qualifying conditions. Full rollout is expected to take years.⁶ That is why many people who meet the licensed criteria choose regulated private treatment rather than waiting.

If you go private, you pay for the pen and the clinical service around it. That is exactly why total-price comparison matters. Ask your GP what the local NHS position is, then compare private providers if you decide not to wait.

05 · Who can be prescribed

Who can be prescribed Mounjaro privately?

Mounjaro is licensed for weight management in adults with a BMI of 30 or above, or a BMI between 27 and 30 with at least one weight-related condition. Examples include high blood pressure, high cholesterol, obstructive sleep apnoea, cardiovascular disease, prediabetes and type 2 diabetes.¹

It must be used alongside a reduced-calorie diet and increased physical activity. A prescriber assesses your BMI, medical history and current medicines before deciding whether it is suitable.¹¹

What to avoid when hunting for a Mounjaro price

Counterfeit sources. The MHRA has seized thousands of fake weight-loss pens in the UK and has issued alerts after falsified Mounjaro pens were identified. Fake pens have caused hospitalisations, and some contained insulin rather than tirzepatide. Only buy from a pharmacy you can verify on the GPhC register, never from social media, beauty salons or unverified websites. Genuine treatment always involves a prescription and a clinical consultation.⁷¹²

Extra doses. Each KwikPen is designed and licensed to deliver exactly four weekly doses. Use the pen as designed, then dispose of it.

Stacking. Mounjaro must not be combined with other GLP-1 medicines, unlicensed "research" peptides such as retatrutide (which has no UK licence), or compounded copies. These combinations have no safety data and no regulated supply chain. Anything promising faster results outside a licensed pathway is the warning sign.

07 · Spotting a genuine pen

How to check a pen is genuine

A genuine UK Mounjaro pen comes from a registered pharmacy with a batch number and expiry date, arrives cold-chain packaged, and holds a clear, colourless solution.¹³ Genuine UK stock is supplied through Lilly's official distribution to licensed pharmacies, and every pen carries a batch number and expiry date that can be checked.

Do not use a pen that has been frozen, looks cloudy or discoloured, has particles in it, is past its expiry, has been above 30°C, or has been out of the fridge for more than 30 days in use. If supply or packaging ever seems wrong, check the pharmacy on the GPhC register and contact the pharmacy before injecting.¹²

08 · What the pen delivers

What you are paying for: the medicine and the evidence

Mounjaro is the brand name for tirzepatide, a once-weekly injectable prescription medicine made by Eli Lilly. In the UK it is licensed for weight management in adults and for type 2 diabetes. It comes as a pre-filled multi-dose KwikPen in six strengths: 2.5mg, 5mg, 7.5mg, 10mg, 12.5mg and 15mg.¹

In the SURMOUNT-1 trial of 2,539 adults, people taking tirzepatide alongside diet and exercise lost on average 15% of body weight on 5mg, 19.5% on 10mg and 20.9% on 15mg over 72 weeks, compared with 3.1% with lifestyle changes alone. These are trial averages, and individual results vary. For someone starting at 100 kg, 20.9% is about 21 kg.²

Dose choice matters, not just price. Higher is not automatically better; your prescriber will guide the right pace based on how you respond and tolerate it.

In the head-to-head SURMOUNT-5 trial, adults on tirzepatide lost on average 20.2% of body weight over 72 weeks versus 13.7% on semaglutide 2.4mg (Wegovy). Both are effective licensed treatments, and which suits you depends on your health profile, tolerance and prescriber advice rather than the headline number alone.¹⁵

Price comparison sites: how to use them well

Comparison sites are useful for a quick scan, but treat them as a starting point. A site that lists a single price per dose may not show whether consultation, prescription, needles, sharps bin and cold-chain shipping are included. Always click through and read the checkout total.
