What to look for in a Mounjaro maintenance pharmacy

A good maintenance pharmacy supplies genuine pens, reviews you regularly, and lets you change dose without friction. Mounjaro is a prescription-only medicine, so every supply follows a consultation reviewed by a GPhC-registered prescriber.¹ You can confirm any pharmacy on the GPhC register. Ours is 9012878.

What Mounjaro maintenance costs per month and per year

Maintenance costs the standard price of whichever pen you settle on, which is £189.99 at 5mg, £244.99 at 7.5mg, £274.99 at 10mg, £289.99 at 12.5mg and £299.99 at 15mg. How to move your maintenance to us

04 · What maintenance means

What is a Mounjaro maintenance dose?

A maintenance dose is the weekly dose you stay on once your prescriber is happy with your progress and tolerability. Mounjaro is a once-weekly injection made by Eli Lilly, and it comes in six KwikPen strengths: 2.5mg, 5mg, 7.5mg, 10mg, 12.5mg and 15mg.¹ Any of those strengths could end up being your long-term dose, depending on your response and your prescriber's judgement.

Maintenance does not mean the medicine changes or that you inject less often. The schedule stays weekly, and it is used alongside a reduced-calorie diet and increased physical activity.¹ The licensed weight-management criteria are a BMI of 30 or above, or a BMI between 27 and 30 with at least one weight-related condition such as high blood pressure, high cholesterol, obstructive sleep apnoea, cardiovascular disease, prediabetes or type 2 diabetes.¹

05 · Why doses differ

Why different maintenance doses exist

Different people settle on different doses because response and tolerability vary, so no single maintenance strength suits everyone. In the SURMOUNT-1 trial of 2,539 adults, people taking tirzepatide alongside diet and exercise lost on average 15% of body weight on 5mg, 19.5% on 10mg and 20.9% on 15mg over 72 weeks, compared with 3.1% with lifestyle changes alone.² These are trial averages, and individual results vary.

At 72 weeks, 85% of participants on 5mg, 89% on 10mg and 91% on 15mg had lost at least 5% of their body weight. Half of participants on 10mg and 57% on 15mg lost at least 20%.² As a worked example, for someone starting at 100 kg, 20.9% is about 21 kg.

Side effects are part of the picture too. In SURMOUNT-1, 4.3% of people on 5mg, 7.1% on 10mg and 6.2% on 15mg stopped treatment because of side effects, compared with 2.6% on placebo.² A higher dose is not automatically better for you. The right maintenance dose is the one you tolerate well and that your prescriber considers appropriate.

06 · How escalation works

How dose escalation works before maintenance

Escalation means starting on the lowest pen and moving up strength by strength under prescriber review, until you reach the dose that suits you. Everyone begins on the 2.5mg pen. The first four pens, covering 2.5mg, 5mg, 7.5mg and 10mg, cost £879.96 at standard prices if you step through all four.

You will not necessarily go through every strength. Your prescriber decides each step from your response and any side effects, as set out in the product information.¹ Our monthly reviews exist for exactly this. The prescribing team reviews you, adjusts your dose and supports you with side effects.

Your dose can also come down. If the aim is maintenance rather than further loss, moving to a lower licensed weekly dose is one of the regulated options, discussed with your clinical team.

07 · After you reach maintenance

What happens after you reach maintenance

After you reach maintenance you keep injecting weekly, keep your diet and activity habits, and keep your reviews. Tirzepatide has a half-life of about five days, which is why a weekly schedule works.¹ After a final dose it takes roughly 4 to 5 weeks to clear the system, and nothing needs doing while it clears.

SURMOUNT-4 looked at what happens when people stop treatment. People who stopped tirzepatide after 36 weeks regained on average 14% of body weight over the following year, while those who continued lost a further 5.5% on average.¹⁴ Mounjaro manages weight; it does not cure the biology behind it.

That does not mean everyone must stay on it forever. Stopping should always be planned with your prescriber, with diet and activity habits ready to carry the load.¹⁴ Increased physical activity is part of the licence. 08 · NHS and private

NHS or private maintenance: the honest picture

Mounjaro is available on the NHS, but access is being phased in over several years. NICE recommends it for adults with a BMI of at least 35 plus at least one weight-related condition.⁴ The primary-care rollout began in June 2025 with the highest-need groups first, initially BMI 40 or above with four or more qualifying conditions.⁶ Full rollout is expected to take years.

If you meet the licensed criteria but are not yet in an NHS group, regulated private treatment is the alternative many people choose. Whichever route you take, make sure your supply is continuous and reviewed. Do not switch between sources without telling your prescriber which dose you last took. NHS access to Wegovy runs through specialist weight-management services, so ask your GP.

09 · Buying safely

Buying maintenance pens safely

Buy only from a pharmacy you can find on the GPhC register, because counterfeit and unlicensed injectables are a real risk when people try to cut costs. Be wary of any seller offering to supply without a consultation or prescription, or one that promises specific results. A genuine UK pharmacy will ask about your health and medicines, and will review you again at each repeat order. 10 · Serious side effects

Serious side effects: when to get help straight away

Serious side effects are uncommon but need urgent attention. Seek immediate medical help for: severe, persistent stomach pain that may spread to your back, with or without vomiting (possible pancreatitis); pain in the upper right abdomen, fever or yellowing of skin/eyes (possible gallbladder problems); or signs of a severe allergic reaction such as swelling of the face or throat and difficulty breathing. If you take insulin or a sulfonylurea alongside Mounjaro, watch for low blood sugar (shakiness, sweating, confusion) — your prescriber may need to adjust those medicines.¹
