Which GLP-1 Injection Site Is Best? (October 2026)

No single injection site is most effective for Mounjaro: the licensed sites are the stomach area, the front of the thigh and the back of the upper arm, and none is ranked above the others.1 What matters is injecting under the skin, rotating the site each week and following the pen's instructions.

A quick overview

What to know
before you start.

  • The Mounjaro licence lists three subcutaneous sites: stomach area, front of the thigh, back of the upper arm.
  • The product information does not rank any licensed site as more effective than another.
  • Rotate the site with every weekly dose to reduce soreness and injection-site reactions.
  • The upper arm only works if someone else gives the injection.
  • Follow the pen's own instructions for technique, and ask your prescriber if unsure.
In this guide

01 · The core answer

Which injection site is best for Mounjaro?

Any of the three licensed sites is appropriate, and the product information does not name one as more effective. Mounjaro is injected under the skin (subcutaneously) once a week, on the same day each week, at any time of day, with or without food.1

Licensed injection sites are the stomach area (at least 5cm from the belly button), the front of the thigh, or the back of the upper arm if someone else gives the injection.1 Rotate the site with each dose.

SiteWhere exactlyPractical point
Stomach areaAway from the belly button, as the label specifiesEasy to reach and see for self-injection
ThighFront of the thighEasy to reach while seated
Upper armBack of the upper armNeeds someone else to give the injection

02 · What to do

What should you do next?

Pick the site you can reach comfortably, then move to a different spot at the next dose. Our weight loss clinic explains the consultation.

03 · Does site affect results?

Does the injection site change how well it works?

Whatever the site, the medicine is meant to go into the fat layer just under the skin, as the pen's instructions describe.13

Dose is stepped up gradually, and higher is not automatically better. See what dose of Mounjaro is most effective and when Mounjaro is most effective.

04 · Rotation and reactions

Why rotating the site matters

Rotating each week is the one site-related habit the label explicitly asks for. Mild redness, itching, a small bruise or a tender lump at the injection site is common and normally settles within a few days. Rotating sites each week and letting the pen warm briefly out of the fridge reduces stinging.1

Contact your clinical team if a reaction is spreading, hot, very painful, or lasts more than a week. Our pages on bruising at the injection site and an itchy injection site cover what is usual. Report any suspected side effect through the Yellow Card scheme.19

05 · Technique and storage

Technique, storage and getting it right

Follow the instructions in the leaflet and pen for how to hold, press and release the injection, rather than relying on general tips written for other devices. Insulin advice about pinching skin or angles does not automatically apply to a KwikPen.13

Keep Mounjaro pens in a fridge at 2–8°C and never freeze them. Once in use, a pen can be kept out of the fridge at a temperature not above 30°C for up to 30 days after first use, and must then be thrown away. Do not use a pen that has been above 30°C or has been frozen.1 Each KwikPen contains four weekly doses. If you want a bundled kit, see Mounjaro injection site bundles.

06 · Serious side effects

Serious side effects: when to get help straight away

Serious side effects are uncommon but need urgent attention. Seek immediate medical help for: severe, persistent stomach pain that may spread to your back, with or without vomiting (possible pancreatitis); pain in the upper right abdomen, fever or yellowing of skin/eyes (possible gallbladder problems); or signs of a severe allergic reaction such as swelling of the face or throat and difficulty breathing. If you take insulin or a sulfonylurea alongside Mounjaro, watch for low blood sugar (shakiness, sweating, confusion) — your prescriber may need to adjust those medicines.1

How ordering works

How ordering works at EverydayMeds

Three steps, with our pharmacy team alongside you.

  1. EverydayMeds online consultation on a mobile phone

    Step 1: Online consultation — 5–10 minutes

Complete a confidential health questionnaire covering BMI, medical history and current medication. No payment is taken until you're approved.

  2. A clinician ready to review an online consultation

Step 2: Prescriber review — usually same day

A UK registered prescriber checks your suitability against the licensed criteria (BMI ≥30, or ≥27 with a weight-related condition) and contraindications, and confirms your starting dose.

  3. An EverydayMeds delivery box

    Step 3: Next-day tracked delivery

Dispensed by our GPhC-registered pharmacy in temperature-controlled packaging with needles and a sharps bin included. Orders approved by 3pm for next-day tracked delivery.

Start your free consultation

Prescription and dispatch follow clinical approval. Confirm current delivery options when ordering.

Afterwards you're not on your own: dose-change reviews are built in before each step up, our pharmacist team is available for side-effect questions, and repeat orders re-check suitability rather than auto-shipping.

Your questions, answered

Mounjaro price UK — frequently asked questions

Answers to common questions about Mounjaro prices, NHS access and ongoing treatment.

Ask our pharmacy team
Where is the best place to inject Mounjaro?
For Mounjaro, the licence allows the stomach area, the front of the thigh, or the back of the upper arm if someone else injects. None is ranked above the others in the product information. Choose the one you can reach comfortably and rotate it with each weekly dose.
Is it better to inject GLP-1 in the thigh or stomach?
Neither is ranked better in the Mounjaro product information; both are licensed sites. The stomach should be away from the belly button, and the thigh injection goes in the front of the thigh. Pick whichever is easier and more comfortable, and alternate between sites each week.
Which injection site has the fastest absorption rate?
The label simply lists three subcutaneous sites. If speed of effect worries you, speak to your prescriber, who can discuss dose and timing.
How to make GLP-1 more effective?
Use it as prescribed alongside a reduced-calorie diet and increased physical activity, inject on the same day each week, and let your prescriber guide dose increases. Higher is not automatically better. Individual results vary, and the injection site is not a lever the label identifies.
Is it possible to mess up a subcutaneous injection?
Yes, technique errors can happen, which is why the pen's instructions matter. Follow the leaflet step by step, use the sites the label lists and rotate them. If you are unsure whether a dose went in, contact your clinical team before taking another dose.
Should I pinch my skin when injecting?
Follow the instructions supplied with your KwikPen rather than advice written for insulin pens. If the leaflet leaves you unsure, ask your prescriber or pharmacist to talk you through it.
Where is the most painless place to inject?
No site is shown to be painless, and comfort differs between people. Letting the pen warm briefly out of the fridge and rotating sites each week reduces stinging. Contact your clinical team if a reaction is very painful, hot, spreading or lasts more than a week.
What happens if you inject incorrectly?
Mild redness, itching or a small bruise is common and settles within a few days. If you think a dose was not delivered properly, do not simply double up; contact your clinical team. Never take two doses within 3 days of each other, and report side effects via Yellow Card.
