03 · Comparing price fairly

How to compare weight loss injection prices fairly

The only fair comparison is the same medicine, the same dose and the same supply length. A weekly pen that lasts four weeks cannot be compared with a daily injection or a short trial pack without converting to a monthly cost. Every EverydayMeds Mounjaro price is per month, meaning one four-week pen, and the weekly equivalents are £42.50 at 2.5mg, £47.50 at 5mg, £61.25 at 7.5mg, £68.75 at 10mg, £72.50 at 12.5mg and £75.00 at 15mg.

Start by asking what dose the price refers to. Many adverts quote the starting dose because it is the lowest figure, but the 2.5mg pen is a short adjustment step. After at least 4 weeks the dose increases to 5mg and can then rise by 2.5mg at a minimum of 4-week intervals, up to a maximum of 15mg weekly.¹ A provider whose starter price looks low but whose higher doses are dear can cost more over a year than one with a flatter ladder.

Next, separate the first-order price from the repeat price. Our first 2.5mg pen costs £129.99 with code FIRST40 against a standard £169.99. Then check what else is charged. Some providers add separate consultation or delivery fees. With us the consultation is free, standard delivery is free and next-day, and no hidden fees apply. Finally, check the supplier. A price is only worth comparing if the pharmacy is on the GPhC register and the pen is genuine. Weight loss injection options and what drives their cost

Several injectable medicines are used for weight management in the UK, and their costs differ by how often you inject and how far up the dose ladder you go.

Mounjaro and Wegovy are both once weekly, while liraglutide is a daily injection.¹ Mounjaro has a mechanism that sets it apart: it activates two gut-hormone receptors, GIP and GLP-1, whereas semaglutide acts on one.¹

Supplements sometimes marketed as natural alternatives are a different category. They are low-cost supplements with no clinical oversight, dosing is not standardised, and they are not equivalent to a licensed medicine. If a product promises dramatic weight-loss claims for little money, treat that as a warning sign. 05 · Unsafe ways to save

Money-saving shortcuts that are unsafe

Several popular ways of cutting the cost of weight loss injections are unsafe.

The biggest risk is buying from the wrong seller. The MHRA has seized thousands of fake weight-loss pens in the UK and has issued alerts after falsified Mounjaro pens were identified. Fake pens have caused hospitalisations, and some contained insulin rather than tirzepatide. Only buy from a pharmacy you can verify on the GPhC register, never from social media, beauty salons or unverified websites. Genuine treatment always involves a prescription and a clinical consultation.⁷ A very low price from a seller offering to supply without a consultation or prescription is a reason to walk away, not a bargain.

06 · NHS and private routes

NHS or private: which route costs less?

Access to Mounjaro on the NHS is phased, so many people compare it with paying privately. Mounjaro is available on the NHS, but access is being phased in over several years. NICE recommends it for adults with a BMI of at least 35 plus at least one weight-related condition, and the NHS primary-care rollout began in June 2025 with the highest-need groups first, initially BMI 40+ with four or more qualifying conditions.⁴⁶ Full rollout is expected to take years, which is why many people who meet the licensed criteria choose regulated private treatment rather than waiting.

Private treatment is a different decision. You pay for the medicine, and in return you can start when you are assessed as suitable rather than when a local service reaches your group. It is a regulated route when it is run by a GPhC-registered pharmacy and reviewed by a prescriber. A sensible way to weigh the two is to ask three questions.

• Do I meet the NHS criteria as they stand today, and how long might I wait locally?
• Can I afford the full course, including the higher doses I may need?
• Do I want to start now, with monthly clinical reviews, or wait for NHS availability?

You are not locked in either way. Some people start privately and move to NHS care when they become eligible, and others do the reverse. Tell any clinician about all the treatment you have had, so your records are complete and your dose is chosen safely.

07 · What to expect

What you are paying for: how Mounjaro works and the results

The price buys a treatment that works on appetite, and the evidence for it comes from a large trial. Tirzepatide activates two natural gut-hormone receptors at once, GIP and GLP-1. Together these help regulate appetite, slow how quickly the stomach empties, and improve the way the body responds to insulin. Most people feel fuller sooner and less hungry between meals, which supports a reduced-calorie diet.¹

In the SURMOUNT-1 trial of 2,539 adults, people taking tirzepatide alongside diet and exercise lost on average 15% of their body weight on 5mg, 19.5% on 10mg and 20.9% on 15mg over 72 weeks, compared with 3.1% with lifestyle changes alone.² These are trial averages, so individual results vary, and treatment works alongside a reduced-calorie diet and increased physical activity, not instead of them. As a worked example, for someone starting at 100 kg, 20.9% is about 21 kg.

At 72 weeks, 85% of participants on 5mg, 89% on 10mg and 91% on 15mg had lost at least 5% of their body weight. Half of participants on 10mg and 57% on 15mg lost at least 20%.² Trial averages do not predict your own result.

This matters for price because the dose you end on is the main cost driver. The trial shows results at 5mg, 10mg and 15mg, and many people settle at one of those. A higher dose is not automatically better, and your prescriber chooses the right level for you based on response and tolerance.¹

The pace is gradual. The first weeks on 2.5mg are an adjustment phase and losses are usually modest. Most measurable progress builds from 5mg onward, month by month. Think in months, not days, and judge progress by trend rather than individual weigh-ins. Your prescriber reviews response, and if you have lost less than 5% of your starting weight after 6 months on the highest dose you can tolerate, they will discuss whether continuing or stopping is right for you.¹

In the early days, experiences differ widely. Some people notice appetite change and early loss in week one, and others feel little until a higher dose. Early loss includes water weight. Mild nausea, altered appetite and tiredness in the first days after each injection are the commonest early effects and usually settle.¹ Serious side effects are uncommon but need urgent attention. Seek immediate medical help for: severe, persistent stomach pain that may spread to your back, with or without vomiting (possible pancreatitis); pain in the upper right abdomen, fever or yellowing of skin/eyes (possible gallbladder problems); or signs of a severe allergic reaction such as swelling of the face or throat and difficulty breathing. If a symptom worries you, speak to your prescriber, and you can report side effects through the Yellow Card scheme.¹⁹

08 · Eligibility and dosing

Who can have it, and how the dose ladder works

Mounjaro is licensed for weight management in adults with a BMI of 30 or above, or a BMI between 27 and 30 with at least one weight-related condition such as high blood pressure, high cholesterol, obstructive sleep apnoea, cardiovascular disease, prediabetes or type 2 diabetes. It must be used alongside a reduced-calorie diet and increased physical activity. A prescriber assesses your BMI, medical history and current medicines before deciding whether it is suitable for you.¹

Because Mounjaro is a prescription-only medicine, it is supplied only after an online consultation reviewed by a GPhC-registered prescriber. Payment is taken when you place the order; if the prescriber decides the treatment is not suitable, the order is refunded automatically in full.

Everyone starts on 2.5mg once a week. After at least 4 weeks the dose increases to 5mg, and can then step up by 2.5mg at minimum 4-week intervals (7.5mg, 10mg, 12.5mg) to a maximum of 15mg weekly, depending on how you respond and tolerate it.¹

Mounjaro is injected under the skin once a week, on the same day each week, at any time of day, with or without food. Licensed sites are the stomach area at least 5cm from the belly button, the front of the thigh, or the back of the upper arm if someone else gives the injection, and you should rotate sites. Each KwikPen contains four weekly doses.¹ There is no best time of day, so pick a day you will remember. Many people choose a weekend morning so early side effects fall on days off.

Some practical rules affect cost, because mistakes waste doses. If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you can within 4 days (96 hours) of the scheduled time. If more than 4 days have passed, skip it and take the next on your normal day, and never take two doses within 3 days of each other. You can change your injection day as long as at least 3 days (72 hours) have passed since your last dose.¹

09 · Storage and checking

Storing your pen and checking it is genuine

Looking after a pen properly protects what you have paid for, and checking it on arrival protects your safety. Keep Mounjaro pens in a fridge at 2–8°C and never freeze them. Once in use, a pen can be kept out of the fridge not above 30°C for up to 30 days, which is useful for short trips, after which it should be discarded. Keep the cap on to protect the pen from light, and never use a pen that has been frozen.¹³

For unopened pens, store them in the fridge until first use, and they keep until the expiry date printed on the box. If an unopened pen has been out of the fridge, check the patient information leaflet and contact the pharmacy before using it, rather than relying on a remembered day limit. Figures circulating online often come from other countries' labels.¹³

You can fly with Mounjaro. Carry pens in hand luggage, because hold luggage can fall below freezing, ideally in a cool bag with the prescription label or a copy of your prescription. In-use pens tolerate up to 30 days not above 30°C, so most holidays need no special arrangements. In hot climates use an insulated pouch, and check destination rules for travelling with prescription injectables before you fly.¹

When your pen arrives, check it. A genuine UK Mounjaro pen comes from a registered pharmacy with a batch number and expiry date, arrives cold-chain packaged, and the solution inside is clear and colourless. Do not use a pen that has been frozen, looks cloudy or discoloured, has particles in it, is past its expiry, or has been out of the fridge for more than 30 days, or above 30°C in use. If supply or packaging ever seems wrong, check the pharmacy on the GPhC register and contact the pharmacy before injecting.¹²

This is where a suspiciously low price can cost far more than it saves. The MHRA has issued alerts after falsified Mounjaro pens were identified, and fake pens have caused hospitalisations.⁷ A pharmacy you can verify, a prescription, a batch number and a cold-chain delivery are the minimum signs of a genuine supply.
