  • Orlistat and oral GLP-1 tablets are the non-injection routes; ask your prescriber about current suitability.

  • All of these are prescription-only and need a clinical assessment.

02 · Next step

Which one is relevant to you?

The right drug depends on your BMI, health conditions, other medicines and preference for injections or tablets. Only a prescriber can decide that after a proper assessment.

If you are weighing the two weekly injections, start with the Wegovy pen and Mounjaro pages. When you are ready to see prices, our weight loss clinic explains the free online consultation, reviewed by a GPhC-registered prescriber.

03 · Weekly injections

Weekly injections: Mounjaro and Wegovy

Mounjaro is the brand name for tirzepatide, a once-weekly injectable prescription medicine made by Eli Lilly.1 Tirzepatide is the first treatment of its kind to activate two natural gut-hormone receptors at once: GIP and GLP-1.1

Wegovy is semaglutide, a single-action GLP-1 medicine. Its titration steps up after at least four weeks and reaches the 2.4mg maintenance dose from week 17.18

In the SURMOUNT-1 trial, people taking tirzepatide alongside diet and exercise lost on average 15% of their body weight on 5mg, 19.5% on 10mg and 20.9% on 15mg over 72 weeks, compared with 3.1% with lifestyle changes alone.2 These are trial averages, and individual results vary. Our guide to Eli Lilly's weight loss drugs covers the manufacturer's range.

04 · Daily and oral options

Daily injections, tablets and orlistat

Liraglutide (Saxenda, and products such as Erly) is a daily injection supplied at 6mg per millilitre, unlike once-weekly Mounjaro and Wegovy.11

Oral GLP-1 tablets suit people who would rather avoid needles. Orlistat is a different type of medicine again, and figures vary, so your prescriber can advise. For more on the GLP-1 class, read our GLP-1 drugs overview.

05 · What is not on the list

What is not on the list

Supplements sold as the 'poor man's Ozempic' or 'nature's Ozempic' are low-cost products with no clinical oversight. They are not licensed weight loss medicines.

Stimulant drugs are also a different category; see our page on amphetamine drugs for weight loss. Beware any seller offering to supply prescription medicines without a consultation or prescription. The MHRA publishes counterfeit alerts, and you can report side effects through the Yellow Card scheme.719

06 · NHS access

NHS or private?

Mounjaro is available on the NHS, but access is being phased in over several years. NICE recommends it for adults with a BMI of at least 35 plus at least one weight-related condition, and the NHS primary-care rollout began in June 2025 with the highest-need groups first (initially BMI 40+ with four or more qualifying conditions).46 NHS access to Wegovy runs through specialist weight-management services; ask your GP. See the full weight loss drugs guide for more.

How ordering works

How ordering works at EverydayMeds

Three steps, with our pharmacy team alongside you.

  1. EverydayMeds online consultation on a mobile phone

    Step 1: Online consultation — 5–10 minutes

Complete a confidential health questionnaire covering BMI, medical history and current medication. No payment is taken until you're approved.

  2. A clinician ready to review an online consultation

Step 2: Prescriber review — usually same day

A UK registered prescriber checks your suitability against the licensed criteria (BMI ≥30, or ≥27 with a weight-related condition) and contraindications, and confirms your starting dose.

  3. An EverydayMeds delivery box

    Step 3: Next-day tracked delivery

Dispensed by our GPhC-registered pharmacy in temperature-controlled packaging with needles and a sharps bin included. Orders approved by 3pm for next-day tracked delivery.

Start your free consultation

Prescription and dispatch follow clinical approval. Confirm current delivery options when ordering.

Afterwards you're not on your own: dose-change reviews are built in before each step up, our pharmacist team is available for side-effect questions, and repeat orders re-check suitability rather than auto-shipping.

Your questions, answered

Mounjaro price UK — frequently asked questions

Answers to common questions about Mounjaro prices, NHS access and ongoing treatment.

Ask our pharmacy team
Which weight loss drugs are best known in the UK?
Mounjaro (tirzepatide) and Wegovy (semaglutide) are the best-known licensed weight loss injections in the UK, and both are taken once a week. Which suits you depends on your health, other medicines and a prescriber's assessment, so choose on suitability rather than name.
Which weight loss medication is best?
No licensed weight loss medicine is best for everyone; a prescriber decides what suits you. In SURMOUNT-5, the first large head-to-head trial, tirzepatide and semaglutide 2.4mg (Wegovy) were compared directly; both are effective, licensed treatments, and which suits you depends on your health profile, tolerance and prescriber advice. Individual results vary, and treatment works alongside diet and activity.
Is there a new weight loss drug better than Ozempic?
Ozempic is licensed for type 2 diabetes, not weight management. Only SURMOUNT-5 supports a direct comparison, so ask a prescriber which medicine fits you rather than relying on headlines.
Which is safer, Wegovy or Mounjaro?
Both are licensed prescription medicines with known side effects, and neither is safer for everyone. Suitability depends on your medical history and other medicines, which a GPhC-registered prescriber reviews. Report any new symptoms through the Yellow Card scheme and discuss them with your prescriber.
What is a cheaper alternative to Ozempic?
Supplements sold as cheap alternatives are not licensed weight loss medicines and carry no clinical oversight. Ozempic is licensed for type 2 diabetes only, and a regulated UK pharmacy will not supply it for weight loss; licensed options include the Mounjaro pen, which costs £169.99 at the 2.5mg starting dose. Prices checked 11 October 2026.
Which weight loss pill is licensed in the UK?
Licensed tablet options include orlistat, Wegovy tablets and Foundayo, and none is best for everyone. A prescriber can say which, if any, suits your health and goals after an assessment.
Who is Ozempic bad for?
Ozempic is semaglutide licensed for type 2 diabetes; it is not a UK weight-loss medicine. Whether any GLP-1 medicine is unsuitable for you depends on your medical history, so a prescriber must review it first. Mounjaro should not be used if you are allergic to tirzepatide or any of its ingredients, or during pregnancy or while trying to conceive. Your prescriber will take extra care, or may recommend against treatment, if you have a history of pancreatitis, severe gut or digestive disease, diabetic retinopathy, or gallbladder problems. Always share your full medical history and medicine list. Mounjaro must not be used during pregnancy, and it should be stopped at least one month before trying to conceive. Mounjaro can reduce how well oral contraceptive pills are absorbed, so the SmPC advises switching to a non-oral method, or adding a barrier method (such as condoms), for 4 weeks after starting Mounjaro and for 4 weeks after each dose increase.1 Never start a prescription medicine without a consultation. Serious side effects are uncommon but need urgent attention. Seek immediate medical help for: severe, persistent stomach pain that may spread to your back, with or without vomiting (possible pancreatitis); pain in the upper right abdomen, fever or yellowing of skin/eyes (possible gallbladder problems); or signs of a severe allergic reaction such as swelling of the face or throat and difficulty breathing.
