I Left My Mounjaro Out of the Fridge Overnight: What to Do (October 2026)

If the pen was already in use, leaving it out overnight is normally within the licensed storage limits, as long as the room stayed cool and the pen was not frozen or sat in heat. If it was an unopened pen, check with your pharmacy before injecting. What happens when Mounjaro is left out of the fridge depends on which pen you have.

A quick overview

What to know
before you start.

  • An in-use pen can be kept out of the fridge for up to 30 days (not above 30°C), so one night out is within the licensed limit.
  • An unopened pen is different: do not rely on a remembered day limit, and check with the pharmacy first.
  • Never use a pen that has frozen, looks cloudy or discoloured, or contains particles.
  • If the room may have been hot, treat the pen as uncertain and contact your pharmacy before injecting.
  • Put the pen back in the fridge at 2–8°C, cap on, and keep injecting on your usual once-weekly day.
In this guide

01 · Do this first

What to do right now if your Mounjaro was left out overnight

Start by working out which kind of pen it is, because the rules differ. A pen you have already injected from is an in-use pen. A pen still sealed from the pharmacy delivery is unopened. Everything else follows from that.

  • Do not panic and do not inject yet. Nothing about a night on the worktop forces you to decide in the next minute.
  • Look at the pen. The solution should be clear and colourless. A genuine pen should not be cloudy, discoloured or contain particles.1
  • Think about the room. Was it a normal indoor space, or somewhere hot, such as a sunny windowsill, a car or beside a radiator? Was it anywhere near freezing, such as a porch, a garage or a hold bag?
  • Check whether the pen is in use. If you have already used it, the in-use limit applies. If it is sealed, contact the pharmacy.
  • Return it to the fridge with the cap on once you have decided it is fine to keep.

Once in use, a pen can be kept out of the fridge at a temperature not above 30°C for up to 30 days — useful for short trips — and must then be thrown away. 1 An overnight stay on a kitchen counter sits comfortably inside that limit, provided the room stayed not above 30°C.

02 · The key distinction

In-use pen versus unopened pen: which rule applies

SituationWhat the guidance saysWhat to do
In-use pen, room temperature, cool roomCan be kept out of the fridge for up to 30 days (not above 30°C) in use, then discardedOvernight is within the limit. Return it to the fridge or carry on using it as normal.
In-use pen, room was hot or in direct sunThe licensed limit is a temperature ceiling, so heat above it is outside the tested windowContact your pharmacy before injecting.

If you want the broader picture before deciding, our guides on whether you can leave Mounjaro out of the fridge and accidentally leaving it out overnight cover similar ground from different angles.

03 · Your situation

Is your pen still safe? The honest answer

For most people reading this, the answer is yes. The usual scenario is a pen that was already in use, left in a normal indoor room, with the cap on. That is the situation the in-use guidance was written for.

A warm kitchen in summer is not the same as a cool bedroom in winter. If you are unsure the room stayed within the temperature limit, treat that as a genuine uncertainty and ask the pharmacy that supplied the pen rather than guessing. If you are a customer, our team can look at it with you. Support is available Monday–Friday 9am–5pm on 0333 207 0413 or at support@everydaymeds.co.uk.

If you are weighing up where to go for ongoing treatment and support, our weight loss clinic page explains how our free consultation and monthly reviews work.

04 · Storage rules in full

The Mounjaro storage rules in full

The standing instruction is simple: Keep Mounjaro pens in a fridge at 2–8°C and never freeze them.1 Everything else is an allowance for real life, not a replacement for that rule.

The in-use allowance is the one that matters most to you. Once you start a pen, it can be kept out of the fridge below the stated temperature ceiling for up to 30 days (not above 30°C), after which it should be discarded. The cap should stay on to protect the pen from light, and a pen that has been frozen must not be used.1

Two details are worth underlining. First, the allowance is expressed as a temperature ceiling and a time limit together. Meeting only one of them is not enough.

You may see storage figures quoted on forums or in AI summaries that differ from this. Some quoted figures come from other countries' labels and do not apply to a UK KwikPen.

05 · Unopened pens

What if the pen was unopened?

An unopened pen should be kept in the fridge and keeps until the expiry date printed on the box.1 The in-use allowance is written for pens you have started, so it does not automatically cover a sealed pen that sat out overnight.

The careful position is this: If an unopened pen has been out of the fridge, check with the pharmacy before using it rather than relying on a remembered day limit — figures circulating online often come from other countries' labels.1

What the pharmacy will want to know is simple. Which pen is it, roughly how long was it out, where was it, and how warm was the room? Have the batch number and expiry on the box ready. If you ordered from us, mention your order, and the prescribing team will advise on whether to use it or replace it.

Do not try to test the pen by injecting a small amount, and do not try to stretch a doubtful pen. Both are outside the licensed use of the medicine.

06 · Signs to discard a pen

Signs a pen should be thrown away

A pen should be discarded if any of the following is true. These come from the product information:

  • It has been frozen.
  • The liquid is cloudy or discoloured.
  • There are particles in it.
  • It is past its printed expiry.
  • It has been in use for longer than the licensed in-use period.

Do not use a pen that has been frozen, looks cloudy or discoloured, has particles in it, is past its expiry, or has been out of the fridge for more than 30 days, or above 30°C in use. 1 A genuine pen contains a clear, colourless solution.

Freezing deserves its own mention because it is easy to do by accident. A pen pushed against the back wall of a fridge, or left in a porch or on a cold windowsill in winter, can freeze. If it may have frozen, do not use it.

If a pen is discarded, put it in your sharps bin as usual. Needles, a sharps bin and injection guidance come with every order we dispatch.

07 · Heat, light and cars

Heat, direct sun and the cap

Overnight in a normal room is one thing, but heat is a different risk. The licensed ceiling for in-use pens is a temperature, and anything outside the tested window is something the pharmacy should assess, not you.1

Places that commonly breach the ceiling include a parked car, a conservatory, a windowsill in direct sun, the top of a radiator and a bag left in a hot room. If your pen spent the night in a spot like that, do not assume it is fine just because it looks clear. Contact your pharmacy and describe where it was.

Light matters too. The cap protects the solution from light, so keep it on whenever the pen is not in use.1 If you took the cap off and left the pen uncovered, mention that when you call.

If you are travelling, our notes on keeping Mounjaro out of the fridge day to day may help you plan.

08 · Travel and deliveries

Travel, hold luggage and deliveries

Many overnight lapses happen away from home. You can fly with Mounjaro. Carry pens in hand luggage, because hold luggage can fall below freezing, ideally in a cool bag with the prescription label or a copy of your prescription.1

In-use pens tolerate up to 30 days not above 30°C, so most holidays need no special arrangements. For hot climates, use an insulated pouch. Check destination rules for travelling with prescription injectables before you fly.

Deliveries are another overnight risk. Our orders arrive by free next-day tracked DPD delivery in temperature-controlled, discreet packaging. If you are not home, move the parcel into a cool place promptly and put unopened pens in the fridge as soon as you can. If a parcel sat out for a long time, tell the pharmacy before using the pens.

If supply or packaging ever seems wrong, check the pharmacy on the GPhC register and contact it before injecting.12 We are registered with the GPhC under number 9012878 and supply Mounjaro through official LillyDirect supply.

09 · Dosing after a storage slip

Should you change your dose or injection day?

No, a storage slip on its own is not a reason to change your dose or move your injection day. If the pen looks clear and colourless and stayed within the storage limits, carry on with your usual once-weekly schedule as prescribed.

If the pen fails the checks, or the pharmacy tells you to replace it, speak to your prescriber about the timing of your next dose rather than improvising. Do not double up, and do not use a doubtful pen to avoid a gap. Both would be outside the licensed use of the medicine.

If you feel unwell after using a pen you were unsure about, contact your prescriber or a pharmacist. If you have severe, persistent stomach pain, swelling of the face, lips, tongue or throat, difficulty breathing or yellowing of the skin or eyes, get medical help straight away. You can also report suspected side effects through the MHRA Yellow Card scheme.19 Our related guide on out-of-fridge safety and side effects goes into this further.

10 · Stop it happening again

How to stop it happening again

Most overnight lapses are habit problems, so build a small routine. Link the fridge to your injection day: when you inject, the pen goes straight back, cap on, before you do anything else.

  • Keep a fixed spot. Use a shelf away from the back wall, so the pen does not freeze, and keep it where you will see it.
  • Set a reminder. A phone alarm after your injection is enough. Our free GLPTrackr companion app can help you track your GLP-1 journey.
  • Store deliveries first. Unpack new pens straight into the fridge before the shopping.
  • Use a cool bag when out. A small accessory purchase is enough for a day trip or holiday.
  • Keep the box. It holds the batch number and expiry, which the pharmacy will ask about.

The fridge target is 2–8°C and the pen should never freeze.1 If you are not sure your fridge is reliable, a fridge thermometer is a cheap way to check.

If you are new to the pen, remember the in-use allowance is a convenience for short trips, not a reason to store it permanently on the counter. The licence wording is clear that fridge storage is the standing instruction.

11 · If you need a replacement

If you need a replacement pen

If the pharmacy tells you to replace the pen, ask how to arrange it quickly. Replacement is an honest cost of a storage mistake, and it is better than injecting a doubtful pen. Our Mounjaro pen page lists current doses and prices; as of 12 October 2026, a 2.5mg pen is £169.99 per month at the standard price, and all six doses are in stock.

New customers can use code FIRST40 for £40 off their first order, at any dose. Every future order then gets an automatic £25 reorder discount (code DOSE25). Orders placed by 3pm are dispatched the same day, with free next-day tracked delivery.

Repeat orders re-check suitability, and nothing is auto-shipped. Prescriber review is by a GPhC-registered prescriber, and there is no subscription.

If you are not yet a customer and are here only to find out about the storage, that is fine too. The consultation is free, with no obligation, and unsuitable orders are refunded automatically.

12 · Why the fridge rule exists

What happens if you don't keep medication in the fridge?

Medicines that need cold storage are labelled that way because the manufacturer has tested them only within a defined window. Outside that window, sterility and potency are no longer assured, which is why the label gives a temperature range and an in-use limit.

For Mounjaro specifically, the label states the fridge range, bans freezing, and allows a defined in-use period at room temperature. That allowance is why a night on the counter is not alarming for an in-use pen. It does not mean storage rules are optional.

In-use pen, cool room, cap on: within the limit. Unopened pen, unknown conditions, heat or freezing: ask the pharmacy.

13 · Serious side effects

Serious side effects: when to get help straight away

Serious side effects are uncommon but need urgent attention. Seek immediate medical help for: severe, persistent stomach pain that may spread to your back, with or without vomiting (possible pancreatitis); pain in the upper right abdomen, fever or yellowing of skin/eyes (possible gallbladder problems); or signs of a severe allergic reaction such as swelling of the face or throat and difficulty breathing. If you take insulin or a sulfonylurea alongside Mounjaro, watch for low blood sugar (shakiness, sweating, confusion) — your prescriber may need to adjust those medicines.1

Your questions, answered

Mounjaro price UK — frequently asked questions

Answers to common questions about Mounjaro prices, NHS access and ongoing treatment.

Ask our pharmacy team
How long can Mounjaro be out of the fridge once opened?
Once a pen is in use it can be kept out of the fridge not above 30°C for up to 30 days, after which it should be discarded. The cap should stay on to protect it from light. Never use a pen that has been frozen. An overnight stay sits within that limit if the room was cool.
I left my Mounjaro out of the fridge overnight – can I still use it?
If it was an in-use pen kept in a cool room, yes, that is within the licensed in-use limit. Check the liquid is clear and colourless first. If it was unopened, or the room may have been hot or near freezing, contact your pharmacy before injecting.
What happens if you don't keep medication in the fridge?
For Mounjaro, the label allows a defined in-use period out of the fridge, but outside the tested window sterility and potency are no longer assured. Freezing is never allowed. If a pen has been somewhere hot, frozen, or out longer than the licence allows, do not use it and speak to your pharmacy.
What are the side effects of Mounjaro?
Common effects are mostly digestive, such as nausea, diarrhoea, vomiting, constipation and abdominal discomfort. Seek immediate medical help for severe, persistent stomach pain, pain in the upper right abdomen with fever or yellowing of the skin or eyes, or signs of a severe allergic reaction. Storing a pen overnight is not itself listed as a side effect. If you feel unwell after any injection, contact your prescriber and report it through the Yellow Card scheme.
What is the price of Mounjaro?
Prices depend on the dose. At the standard price, the 2.5mg pen is £169.99 per month and the 15mg pen is £329.99 per month, checked 12 October 2026. New customers get £40 off their first order with code FIRST40, and later orders get an automatic £25 off.
What is the cheapest way to get Mounjaro?
Compare like for like by dose. Across the UK pharmacies we track, Mounjaro pens range from £143.96 to £339.00 per month, checked 12 October 2026, and the gap between providers for the same dose varies. Check discounts, delivery and whether a prescriber reviews your order, not just the headline price.
How much does Mounjaro cost at high street pharmacies such as Boots?
Across the pharmacies we track, Boots' Mounjaro dose prices run from £179.00 to £339.00 per month, checked 12 October 2026.
