How to Invest in Mounjaro: What You Can Actually Buy (October 2026)

You cannot invest in Mounjaro directly: it is a medicine, not a company. The only route is buying shares in its maker, Eli Lilly, which is listed in the US under the ticker LLY, usually through a UK investment platform or funds that hold it. Share prices rise and fall, and we are a pharmacy, not a financial adviser.

A quick overview

What to know
before you start.

  • Mounjaro is a brand name for tirzepatide, made by Eli Lilly, so the investable entity is the company, not the drug.
  • Buying Eli Lilly shares gives exposure to Mounjaro, but also to every other product and trial the company runs.
  • Funds and trackers spread risk across several GLP-1 companies rather than relying on one.
  • We are a GPhC-registered pharmacy and cannot give investment advice; speak to a regulated financial adviser.
  • If you want the medicine rather than the shares, treatment starts with a free online consultation.
In this guide

01 · The core answer

Can you invest in Mounjaro directly?

No, you cannot buy a stake in a single medicine. Mounjaro is the brand name for tirzepatide, a once-weekly injectable prescription medicine made by Eli Lilly, licensed in the UK for weight management in adults and for type 2 diabetes.1 A drug has no shares of its own. Anyone who wants financial exposure to it has to buy into the company that makes and sells it.

That company is Eli Lilly and Company. Its shares trade on the New York Stock Exchange under the ticker LLY. Because the company sells many other medicines and has others in development, owning its shares is a bet on the whole business, not only on Mounjaro.

02 · Your next step

Are you looking for shares or for treatment?

If you are curious about the market, the practical steps are the same as for any share purchase. Our wider guides on investing in weight loss drugs give the broader picture. We cannot tell you whether any share is a good buy, and nothing here is a recommendation.

If you are actually considering the medicine, that is a clinical decision, not a financial one. The Mounjaro pen starts with a free online consultation reviewed by a GPhC-registered prescriber, and the current prices are shown live on that page, checked 11 October 2026.

03 · How to buy shares

How can I buy Eli Lilly stock?

You buy Eli Lilly shares through a regulated investment platform or broker that offers US-listed shares. Most UK investment apps and share-dealing accounts do. You open an account, verify your details with that provider, fund it and place an order for the ticker LLY.

Several practical points apply. US shares are priced in dollars, so exchange rates affect your return. Platforms charge for dealing, for currency conversion or for holding the account, and the fees differ widely. Tax treatment depends on your own circumstances and on which type of account you use, so check the current rules or ask a qualified adviser.

You can also gain indirect exposure through a stocks-and-shares account holding a global healthcare or obesity-focused fund. Read the fund's factsheet to see how much is actually held in Eli Lilly. Our explainer on GLP-1 stocks and funds covers how these baskets are built.

We do not recommend any platform or product.

04 · Why people link it to Mounjaro

Why is there so much investor interest in Mounjaro?

Interest comes from the medicine's profile and the size of the groups it treats. Mounjaro is a first-of-its-kind treatment that activates two natural gut-hormone receptors at once, GIP and GLP-1.1 Together these help regulate appetite, slow how quickly the stomach empties and improve the way the body responds to insulin. This dual action distinguishes it from single-action GLP-1 medicines such as semaglutide (Wegovy/Ozempic).

The trial record adds to the attention. In the SURMOUNT-1 trial of 2,539 adults, people taking tirzepatide alongside diet and exercise lost on average 15% of their body weight on 5mg, 19.5% on 10mg and 20.9% on 15mg over 72 weeks, compared with 3.1% with lifestyle changes alone.2 These are trial averages, and individual results vary.

Strong clinical results do not translate automatically into strong share returns. Markets price in expectations well before results appear, so a good medicine can still sit inside a share price that already reflects the good news.

05 · Risks to weigh

What are the risks of investing in GLP-1 companies?

The main risk is that your money is tied to a single company or a single theme. Share prices can fall sharply, and you can lose some or all of what you put in. Past performance does not predict future returns.

Several GLP-1-specific factors are worth understanding:

  • Valuation. When a share has risen a lot, much of the optimism may already be priced in.
  • Competition. Rival semaglutide medicines are established, and further treatments, including tablets, are being developed by several companies.
  • Pricing and policy. Governments and health systems negotiate what they pay, and list prices can change. Eli Lilly itself announced a UK list-price change for Mounjaro, which shows how pricing is not fixed.10
  • Manufacturing and supply. Scaling production of injectable pens is complex, and delays can affect sales.
  • Safety and regulation. New safety findings or regulatory changes can affect a medicine's use.
  • Concentration. One product's success may dominate a company's results.

Only invest money you could afford to lose, and consider speaking to an FCA-regulated financial adviser before committing.

06 · Ozempic and rivals

Can you invest in Ozempic stock, or other GLP-1 companies?

The same logic applies: you cannot buy Ozempic itself, only shares in the company behind it. Ozempic and Wegovy are semaglutide medicines made by a different company from Mounjaro's maker, so owning one does not give you the other.

Comparing companies is harder than comparing medicines. The Wegovy pen follows a dose ladder of 0.25mg, 0.5mg, 1mg, 1.7mg and 2.4mg once weekly, stepping up after at least four weeks, while Mounjaro runs from 2.5mg to 15mg. Clinical differences between medicines matter to patients, but they are only one input into how a company performs.

If you want to spread exposure, funds that hold several GLP-1 makers reduce reliance on one outcome, at the cost of fund charges.

07 · Too late to invest?

Is it too late to invest in Eli Lilly?

Nobody can answer that reliably, and we will not pretend to. Whether a share is too expensive depends on future earnings, which are unknown. Articles promising which stocks will skyrocket this year, or which will make you rich, are speculation presented as certainty.

Better questions to ask yourself are practical ones. How long can you leave the money invested? How would you feel if the value halved? Is the holding a small part of a diversified portfolio? Are you buying because of research, or because of headlines? A regulated adviser can help you answer these for your own situation.

The same caution applies to lists of the best stocks to buy right now or the best investment in the UK. No list can know your goals, your tax position or your tolerance for loss.

08 · If you want the medicine

If you want the medicine rather than the shares

Many readers arrive here because they are interested in Mounjaro as a treatment. Mounjaro is available on the NHS, but access is being phased in over several years. NICE recommends it for adults with a BMI of at least 35 plus at least one weight-related condition, and the NHS primary-care rollout began in June 2025 with the highest-need groups first (initially BMI 40+ with four or more qualifying conditions).4 Full rollout is expected to take years, which is why many people who meet the licensed criteria choose regulated private treatment rather than waiting.

Mounjaro (tirzepatide) is a prescription-only medicine, supplied only after an online consultation reviewed by a GPhC-registered prescriber. It is used alongside a reduced-calorie diet and increased physical activity. Individual results vary.

Everyone starts on 2.5mg once a week. That starting dose is about letting your body adjust, not about weight loss itself.1 Weight loss is gradual by design, so think in months, not days. Your first 2.5mg pen costs £129.99 with code FIRST40 (standard price £169.99), and every later order is £25 off the standard price. Our weight loss clinic page explains the full service. Our supply is official LillyDirect supply, with free next-day tracked delivery and same-day dispatch when ordered by 3pm.

09 · Beware of scams

Spotting investment and supply scams

Be wary of anyone who promises specific returns from a weight-loss medicine company, or who messages you unprompted with a stock tip. Genuine regulated firms do not promise results, and urgency is a classic warning sign.

The same caution applies when buying the medicine. Counterfeit weight-loss pens exist, and the MHRA publishes counterfeit medicine alerts.7 Avoid any seller offering to supply without a consultation or prescription. Mounjaro price UK — frequently asked questions

Answers to common questions about Mounjaro prices, NHS access and ongoing treatment.

Ask our pharmacy team
How do I invest in Mounjaro?
You cannot invest in the medicine directly. Mounjaro is the brand name for tirzepatide, made by Eli Lilly, so the way to gain exposure is by buying shares in that company or a fund that holds it, through a regulated investment platform. This is general information, not advice, so consider speaking to an FCA-regulated adviser first.
How can I buy Eli Lilly stock?
Open an account with a regulated broker or investment platform that offers US-listed shares, fund it and place an order for the ticker LLY. Check dealing fees, currency conversion costs and the tax treatment of the account type before buying. We are a pharmacy, so we do not recommend platforms or give investment advice.
Is it too late to invest in Eli Lilly?
Nobody can say reliably. Whether the shares are good value depends on future earnings, which are unknown, and strong past results may already be reflected in the price. Consider how long you can stay invested, how much loss you could tolerate and whether the holding is diversified, ideally with guidance from a regulated financial adviser.
Can you invest in Ozempic stock?
Not in the medicine itself. Ozempic and Wegovy are semaglutide medicines made by a different company from Mounjaro's maker, so you would buy shares in that company instead. Owning shares in one maker gives you no stake in the other. Compare the companies, their other products and the risks before deciding.
Which GLP-1 stocks are a good buy?
Good clinical results do not promise share-price gains, because expectations are often priced in. A fund holding several GLP-1 companies spreads risk, though fees apply. A regulated financial adviser can assess what suits your goals and tolerance for loss.
Which stocks will skyrocket this year?
No one can predict that reliably. Lists of stocks tipped to surge are opinion, not evidence, and share prices can fall as easily as rise. Avoid anyone promising specific returns. Build decisions around your own time horizon, diversification and risk tolerance, and speak to an FCA-regulated adviser if you are unsure.
Is Mounjaro available on the NHS?
Yes, but access is being phased in over several years. NICE recommends it for adults with a BMI of at least 35 plus at least one weight-related condition, and the primary-care rollout began in June 2025 with the highest-need groups first. Many people who meet the licensed criteria choose regulated private treatment instead of waiting.
Can I buy Mounjaro itself rather than the shares?
Yes, if it is suitable for you. Mounjaro is a prescription-only medicine, supplied only after an online consultation reviewed by a GPhC-registered prescriber. The consultation is free, and an order a prescriber judges unsuitable is refunded automatically. Treatment is used alongside a reduced-calorie diet and increased physical activity, and individual results vary.
