A quick overview

What to know
before you start.

  • The KwikPen delivers medicine by dialling the dose in the window and injecting under the skin, once a week.
  • Never open the pen or draw liquid out of it with a syringe; ask the pharmacy or your prescriber if something looks wrong.
In this guide

01 · The core answer

How the Mounjaro pen delivers your dose

The medicine leaves the pen only through the attached needle, when you dial the dose and press the injection button. Mounjaro is injected under the skin once a week, on the same day each week, at any time of day, with or without food.1 Each KwikPen contains four weekly doses.13

You turn the dose knob until the indicator shows the correct dose in the window.

StepWhat to do
1Attach a new needle and remove the caps as the leaflet shows
2Turn the knob until the window shows your prescribed dose
3Choose a site: stomach (at least 5cm from the belly button), front of thigh, or back of upper arm if someone else injects
4Press the button and follow the pen's instructions for completing the injection
5Remove the needle, dispose of it in a sharps bin and replace the cap

Rotate the injection site each week.1 If you are new to the pen, our needle removal guide and the stuck-needle help page cover the practical snags.

02 · Why liquid remains

Why there seems to be medicine left in the pen

Each Mounjaro KwikPen is designed and licensed to deliver exactly four weekly doses, so liquid left in a finished pen is not another usable dose.

Altering doses outside the licence means unknown dosing accuracy and no safety data. For more detail see our guides on the remainder in the pen and fifth-dose questions.

03 · Getting your supply

Getting a pen of your own

If you are looking for more medicine because a pen seems to run short, the safe route is a correctly dispensed supply. The Mounjaro pen starts at £169.99 per month for 2.5mg, and your first 2.5mg pen costs £129.99 with code FIRST40. An automatic £25 reorder discount applies to every future order (code DOSE25). You can start your free consultation, and a GPhC-registered prescriber reviews every order. Needles, a sharps bin and injection guidance come with every order, and our team can talk you through the pen. You can also buy Mounjaro from our official LillyDirect supply.

04 · Why not extract liquid

Why you should never extract medicine from the pen

Opening the pen or drawing liquid out with a syringe is not part of the licensed way of using it. The dose is set by the dial and confirmed in the window, so any other method means unknown dosing accuracy.1

Forcing the mechanism can also damage the pen. Dispensed prescription medicines cannot be returned except faulty, damaged or wrong items, and you must contact us within 3 days.

05 · Dose, clicks and strength

Clicks, doses and dose strengths

Click counting is not a method for choosing a dose. The pen comes in six strengths: 2.5mg, 5mg, 7.5mg, 10mg, 12.5mg and 15mg.1

Everyone starts on 2.5mg once a week. After at least 4 weeks the dose rises to 5mg, then can step up by 2.5mg at minimum 4-week intervals to a maximum of 15mg, depending on response and tolerability.1 If you need a different dose, ask your prescriber rather than adjusting the pen yourself.

06 · Missed doses and day changes

Missed doses and changing your injection day

If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you can within 4 days (96 hours) of the scheduled time, then carry on as usual. If more than 4 days have passed, skip it and take the next dose on your normal day. Never take two doses within 3 days of each other.1

You can change your injection day as long as at least 3 days (72 hours) have passed since your last dose.1 A missed dose is never a reason to draw extra liquid from a pen.

07 · Storage and disposal

Storing the pen and disposing of needles

Keep pens in a fridge at 2–8°C and never freeze them. Once in use, a pen can be kept out of the fridge at a temperature not above 30°C for up to 30 days after first use, and must then be thrown away. Keep the cap on to protect it from light, and never use a pen that has been frozen.1

Dispose of used needles in a sharps bin, which is included with every order. Ask your pharmacy about returning a full sharps bin locally. After four doses, or 30 days (not above 30°C) once in use, throw the pen away even if liquid is visible. For a leak at injection, see Mounjaro injection leaked out, and for the final dose see our last dose guide.

How ordering works

How ordering works at EverydayMeds

Three steps, with our pharmacy team alongside you.

  1. EverydayMeds online consultation on a mobile phone

    Step 1: Online consultation — 5–10 minutes

Complete a confidential health questionnaire covering BMI, medical history and current medication. No payment is taken until you're approved.

  2. A clinician ready to review an online consultation

Step 2: Prescriber review — usually same day

A UK registered prescriber checks your suitability against the licensed criteria (BMI ≥30, or ≥27 with a weight-related condition) and contraindications, and confirms your starting dose.

  3. An EverydayMeds delivery box

    Step 3: Next-day tracked delivery

Dispensed by our GPhC-registered pharmacy in temperature-controlled packaging with needles and a sharps bin included. Orders approved by 3pm for next-day tracked delivery.

Prescription and dispatch follow clinical approval. Confirm current delivery options when ordering.

Afterwards you're not on your own: dose-change reviews are built in before each step up, our pharmacist team is available for side-effect questions, and repeat orders re-check suitability rather than auto-shipping.

Your questions, answered

Mounjaro price UK — frequently asked questions

Answers to common questions about Mounjaro prices, NHS access and ongoing treatment.

Ask our pharmacy team
Why is there so much Mounjaro left in the pen?
Visible liquid in a finished pen is not another dose. Discard it safely and ask your pharmacy if you are concerned.
How do I dispose of Mounjaro needles?
Place used needles straight into a sharps bin, which comes with every order. Never put loose needles in household bins or recycling. When the bin is full, ask your local pharmacy or council how sharps are collected in your area.
How do I titrate Mounjaro?
Everyone starts on 2.5mg weekly. After at least 4 weeks the dose rises to 5mg, then can increase by 2.5mg at minimum 4-week intervals up to 15mg, depending on response and tolerability. Your prescriber guides the pace, and higher is not automatically better.
How many clicks does the Mounjaro pen make?
Do not count clicks.
How many clicks to get 5mg out of a 7.5mg Mounjaro pen?
There is no safe click count for this. Each pen is built to deliver its own strength, confirmed in the window. If you need a different dose, ask your prescriber, who can prescribe the right pen within the licensed dose ladder.
What is Mounjaro used to treat?
Mounjaro (tirzepatide) is licensed in the UK for weight management in adults and for type 2 diabetes. For weight management it is used alongside a reduced-calorie diet and increased physical activity, and a prescriber assesses whether it is suitable for you.1
What are the common side effects of Mounjaro?
The most common side effects, affecting more than 1 in 10 people, are nausea, diarrhoea, vomiting, constipation and abdominal discomfort. They are most likely when starting or moving up a dose and for most people ease within days to a few weeks. Tell your prescriber about new or persistent symptoms, and report suspected side effects through the Yellow Card scheme.19 Seek immediate medical help for severe, persistent stomach pain that may spread to your back, with or without vomiting (possible pancreatitis); pain in the upper right abdomen, fever or yellowing of skin/eyes (possible gallbladder problems); or signs of a severe allergic reaction such as swelling of the face or throat and difficulty breathing.
What are the long-term effects of Mounjaro?
Weight loss is gradual and trials measured results at 72 weeks. If you have lost less than 5% of starting weight after 6 months on the highest dose you can tolerate, your prescriber will discuss next steps.1
