A quick overview

What to know
before you start.

  • The NHS primary-care rollout of Mounjaro began in June 2025, with the highest-need groups first, and will take years.
  • GLP-1 is a drug class; Mounjaro (tirzepatide) acts on both GIP and GLP-1 receptors.
  • Standard Mounjaro pens start at £169.99 per month; new customers get £40 off a first order.
  • Growth in prescribing does not change who is suitable: a GPhC-registered prescriber decides.
In this guide

01 · The short answer

Is GLP-1 prescribing growing in 2025?

On the NHS, Mounjaro is available, with access phased in over several years. NICE recommends it for adults with a BMI of at least 35 plus at least one weight-related condition, and the primary-care rollout began in June 2025, initially for BMI 40+ with four or more qualifying conditions.46

Full rollout is expected to take years, which is why many people who meet the licensed criteria choose regulated private treatment rather than waiting.

02 · Getting treatment

What private access costs and how it works

The Mounjaro pen costs £169.99 per month at the 2.5mg starting dose, and all six doses are in stock. Your first 2.5mg pen costs £129.99 with code FIRST40. Every later order is £25 off the standard price (code DOSE25). Switching to us at a higher dose? The first-order discount applies at any dose; a first 15mg order is £289.99.

Across the UK pharmacies we track, the cheapest and dearest Mounjaro pens are £143.96 and £339.00 per month (checked 11 October 2026). If you step up after 4 weeks on each dose, your first four pens (2.5mg to 10mg) cost £959.96 at standard prices. A first year costs £2,711.88 if you stay on 5mg after your 2.5mg starting pen, up to £3,599.88 if you step up through every dose to 15mg. A new customer's first order is £40 less and every later order £25 less.

Payment is taken when you place the order; if the prescriber decides the treatment is not suitable, the order is refunded automatically in full. You can start your free consultation online. Our supply comes through official LillyDirect, so pens are genuine KwikPens.

03 · GLP-1 and Mounjaro

Is GLP-1 the same as Mounjaro?

Not exactly. GLP-1 is a gut hormone and a class of medicines; Mounjaro is the brand name for tirzepatide, a once-weekly injection made by Eli Lilly. It is licensed in the UK for weight management in adults and for type 2 diabetes, and comes as a KwikPen in six strengths from 2.5mg to 15mg.1

Tirzepatide activates two receptors, GIP and GLP-1, which helps regulate appetite, slow stomach emptying and improve the body's response to insulin. That dual action distinguishes it from single-action medicines such as semaglutide (Wegovy/Ozempic).1 Compare options on our GLP-1 prescription weight loss medications page.

04 · What the trials show

What do trials show for tirzepatide?

In SURMOUNT-1, 2,539 adults taking tirzepatide alongside diet and exercise lost on average 15% of body weight on 5mg, 19.5% on 10mg and 20.9% on 15mg over 72 weeks, versus 3.1% with lifestyle changes alone.2 For someone starting at 100 kg, 20.9% is about 21 kg.

These are trial averages; individual results vary, and treatment works alongside a reduced-calorie diet and increased activity, not instead of them. At 72 weeks, 85% on 5mg, 89% on 10mg and 91% on 15mg had lost at least 5% of body weight.2

05 · Eligibility and safety

Who is Mounjaro licensed for?

Mounjaro is licensed for weight management in adults with a BMI of 30 or above, or between 27 and 30 with at least one weight-related condition such as high blood pressure, high cholesterol, obstructive sleep apnoea, cardiovascular disease, prediabetes or type 2 diabetes. It must be used with a reduced-calorie diet and increased physical activity.1 A prescriber assesses your BMI, history and current medicines first.

Tirzepatide has a half-life of about five days, so after a final dose it takes roughly 4–5 weeks to clear the system.1 Ozempic is semaglutide licensed for type 2 diabetes. It is not a UK weight-loss medicine, and prescribing it privately for weight loss is off-label. Stopping Ozempic or any prescribed medicine is a decision to make with your prescriber. Report any side effect through the Yellow Card scheme.19 Seek immediate medical help for severe, persistent stomach pain that may spread to your back, with or without vomiting (possible pancreatitis); pain in the upper right abdomen, fever or yellowing of skin/eyes (possible gallbladder problems); or signs of a severe allergic reaction such as swelling of the face or throat and difficulty breathing.

Your questions, answered

Mounjaro price UK — frequently asked questions

Answers to common questions about Mounjaro prices, NHS access and ongoing treatment.

Ask our pharmacy team
How many people are on GLP-1 drugs in 2025?
Use official NHS and regulator publications for usage numbers.
Will GLP-1 get cheaper in 2026?
Future prices are not something we can predict. Eli Lilly raised the UK list price of Mounjaro on 1 September 2025, and pharmacy prices vary. Our current prices are shown live, with £40 off a first order and £25 off every later order. Prices checked 11 October 2026.
Is GLP-1 the same as Mounjaro?
No. GLP-1 is a gut hormone and a class of medicines. Mounjaro (tirzepatide) activates both GIP and GLP-1 receptors, which distinguishes it from single-action medicines like semaglutide. It is a once-weekly injection licensed in the UK for weight management and type 2 diabetes.
Is it safe to go off Ozempic cold turkey?
Speak to your prescriber before stopping any prescribed medicine. For tirzepatide, the medicine takes roughly 4–5 weeks to clear after a final dose, and nothing needs doing while it clears. Report new symptoms to your prescriber.
What happens if you eat sugar while taking Ozempic?
Ozempic is licensed for type 2 diabetes only. On Mounjaro, no food is banned, but many people feel worse after very fatty, fried or very sugary food, and treatment is licensed alongside a reduced-calorie diet and increased physical activity. Your prescriber can advise on diet, and new symptoms should be discussed with them and reported via Yellow Card.
Is the NHS offering Mounjaro in 2025?
Yes, in phases. NICE recommends it for adults with a BMI of at least 35 plus a weight-related condition, and the primary-care rollout began in June 2025 with the highest-need groups first, initially BMI 40+ with four or more qualifying conditions. Full rollout will take years.
Is 2 years too long to be on Ozempic?
Duration of any GLP-1 treatment is a decision for you and your prescriber, who review suitability regularly. Our prescribing team offers ongoing monthly reviews for Mounjaro patients. Ozempic is licensed for type 2 diabetes only; it is not a UK weight-loss medicine.
