A quick overview

What to know
before you start.

  • The direction of travel in 2025 was up: the NHS began rolling out Mounjaro in June 2025, adding a new route alongside private prescribing.
  • NHS access is phased over several years, starting with the highest-need groups, so many eligible adults still look at regulated private treatment.
  • Rising demand does not change your own eligibility: licensing is based on BMI and weight-related conditions, assessed by a prescriber.
  • Standard monthly pen prices start at £169.99 for 2.5mg; a new customer's first order is £40 less.
In this guide

01 · The answer

Are GLP-1 prescriptions still growing in 2025?

Yes, the direction was upward, and the clearest UK evidence is structural rather than statistical. Mounjaro is available on the NHS, with access phased in over several years. NICE recommends it for adults with a BMI of at least 35 plus at least one weight-related condition, and the primary-care rollout began in June 2025.46 Opening a new prescribing route is, by design, a growth event.

The rollout started with the highest-need groups, initially BMI 40+ with four or more qualifying conditions.6 That is a narrow slice of the adults who meet the licensed criteria, which is why growth is expected to continue as the rollout widens rather than arrive all at once.

Other guides on this site look at the same question from different angles, including GLP-1 prescription growth in 2025 and whether prescriptions have increased. If you are asking the opposite question, see whether prescribing is slowing down.

02 · Fact check

Growth claims you will see, and how far to trust them

Most growth claims fall into three types, and they deserve different levels of trust.

Type of claimWhere it usually comes fromHow much to trust it
US adoption and employer coverage percentagesUS surveys and insurer reportsNot relevant to UK prescribing
UK GP prescription volumes for MounjaroNHS prescribing statistics, quoted second-handCheck the official statistics directly
Global market size and growth forecastsMarket-research reports, often paywalledForecasts, not observed prescriptions; treat as marketing-grade
NHS rollout began June 2025NHS England guidanceDocumented and cited6
Mounjaro UK list price increase, September 2025Eli Lilly statementDocumented and cited10

Growth is very likely and the NHS rollout is documented; precise percentages should come from official prescribing statistics.

03 · For you

What rising demand means if you are considering treatment

Rising national demand does not change whether you are suitable; your own BMI and health history do. Mounjaro is licensed for adults with a BMI of 30 or above, or 27 to 30 with at least one weight-related condition such as high blood pressure, high cholesterol, obstructive sleep apnoea, cardiovascular disease, prediabetes or type 2 diabetes. It is used alongside a reduced-calorie diet and increased physical activity.1

You have two realistic routes. Ask your GP whether you fall into a current NHS group, or choose regulated private treatment. Full NHS rollout is expected to take years, which is why many people who meet the licensed criteria go private rather than wait.6

If you go private, the Mounjaro pen costs £169.99 per month at 2.5mg, and your first 2.5mg pen is £129.99 with code FIRST40. Every later order is £25 off the standard price (code DOSE25). All six doses are in stock.

Our Mounjaro ordering guide covers the full process, and you can start a free consultation directly. A GPhC-registered prescriber reviews every order, and unsuitable orders are refunded automatically.

04 · Why the NHS rollout matters

Why the NHS rollout matters for prescription numbers

The NHS rollout is the single most important UK reason prescription numbers rose in 2025. Mounjaro is available on the NHS, but access is phased in over several years, so volume is gated by who is currently eligible.6

NICE recommends tirzepatide for adults with a BMI of at least 35 plus at least one weight-related condition.4 The primary-care rollout began in June 2025 with the highest-need groups first, initially BMI 40+ with four or more qualifying conditions.6

Ask your GP or check NHS England for current local eligibility. For wider context, see our notes on whether prescriptions would grow and early 2025.

05 · Price changes and demand

Price changes and what they do and do not show

Eli Lilly announced a UK list-price increase for Mounjaro on 14 August 2025, effective 1 September 2025.

A list-price rise is not evidence of how many prescriptions were written, so we do not use it as a growth statistic. It does matter to your budget. Pharmacy sell prices vary because of confidential discounts, and across the UK pharmacies we track (checked 12 October 2026), Mounjaro pens range from £143.96 to £339.00 depending on dose and provider. The gap between providers for the same dose runs from £27 to £41.

Starting 2.5mg pens range from £143.96 to £179.99 across the same set. Compare like for like on dose, and check what is included before you order.

06 · What treatment delivers

What the trial evidence says, regardless of market growth

Popularity is not proof of benefit, so the trial evidence is the better guide. In SURMOUNT-1, 2,539 adults taking tirzepatide alongside diet and exercise lost on average 15% of body weight on 5mg, 19.5% on 10mg and 20.9% on 15mg over 72 weeks, compared with 3.1% with lifestyle changes alone.2 These are trial averages, and individual results vary.

At 72 weeks, 85% of participants on 5mg, 89% on 10mg and 91% on 15mg had lost at least 5% of their body weight. Half of participants on 10mg and 57% on 15mg lost at least 20%.2

Tirzepatide activates two gut-hormone receptors, GIP and GLP-1, which helps regulate appetite and slows stomach emptying. Most people feel fuller sooner and less hungry between meals, which supports a reduced-calorie diet.1

07 · Reading growth stories critically

How to read growth stories critically

Check three things before you rely on a growth figure: the country, the year and the source. A US employer-coverage percentage says nothing about England, and a market forecast is a prediction, not a count of prescriptions.

Look for primary sources such as NHS prescribing statistics or regulator and manufacturer statements. Be cautious with pages that give a precise percentage and no link.

If you want to follow your own progress once treatment starts, GLPTrackr is our free companion app for tracking a GLP-1 journey on iOS and Android. For other options, see all weight loss treatments.

08 · Choosing a safe supplier

Choosing a safe supplier when demand is high

High demand attracts counterfeit and unregulated sellers, so check who is supplying you. The MHRA publishes counterfeit medicine alerts and runs the Yellow Card scheme for reporting problems.7 Mounjaro is a prescription-only medicine, so be wary of anyone offering to supply without a consultation or prescription.

You can check our registration (GPhC 9012878) on the GPhC register.12 We supply genuine KwikPens through official LillyDirect supply, direct from Eli Lilly's UK distribution, with free next-day tracked delivery in temperature-controlled packaging. Orders placed by 3pm are dispatched the same day.

Ordering takes three steps:

  • Complete a free online consultation, with no charge and no obligation.
  • Payment is taken when you place the order; if the prescriber decides the treatment is not suitable, the order is refunded automatically in full.
  • We dispense and dispatch, and your order arrives next day.

How ordering works

How ordering works at EverydayMeds

Three steps, with our pharmacy team alongside you.

  1. EverydayMeds online consultation on a mobile phone

    Step 1: Online consultation — 5–10 minutes

Complete a confidential health questionnaire covering BMI, medical history and current medication. No payment is taken until you're approved.

  2. A clinician ready to review an online consultation

Step 2: Prescriber review — usually same day

A UK registered prescriber checks your suitability against the licensed criteria (BMI ≥30, or ≥27 with a weight-related condition) and contraindications, and confirms your starting dose.

  3. An EverydayMeds delivery box

    Step 3: Next-day tracked delivery

Dispensed by our GPhC-registered pharmacy in temperature-controlled packaging with needles and a sharps bin included. Orders approved by 3pm for next-day tracked delivery.

Your questions, answered

Mounjaro price UK — frequently asked questions

Answers to common questions about Mounjaro prices, NHS access and ongoing treatment.

Ask our pharmacy team
Are GLP-1 prescriptions still growing in the UK?
The direction in 2025 was upward. The NHS primary-care rollout of Mounjaro began in June 2025 with the highest-need groups first, and full rollout is expected to take years. For current figures, check official NHS prescribing statistics.
What are the side effects of Ozempic?
Ozempic is semaglutide licensed for type 2 diabetes. It is not a UK weight-loss medicine, and prescribing it privately for weight loss is off-label. The licensed weight-management options are Mounjaro (tirzepatide) and Wegovy (semaglutide 2.4mg). Check the patient information leaflet supplied with any medicine and speak to your prescriber or pharmacist. You can report suspected side effects through the MHRA Yellow Card scheme.
When will semaglutide be generic?
Generic availability depends on patents and regulators, and any date you read without a primary source is speculation. Wegovy and Mounjaro are currently branded prescription medicines, and your prescriber can advise on what is licensed and suitable for you today.
What is known as the "poor man's Ozempic"?
The label is usually applied to berberine and similar supplements. These are low-cost supplements with no clinical oversight, and their dosing is not standardised. They are not equivalent to licensed prescription medicines, and dramatic weight-loss claims made for them should be treated with caution. Speak to a prescriber about evidence-based options.
Can you mimic Ozempic naturally, or with a drink?
No drink or supplement is an established substitute for a prescription GLP-1 medicine. Mounjaro works by activating GIP and GLP-1 receptors, which helps regulate appetite and slows stomach emptying. Marketing for "natural Ozempic" products rarely has comparable evidence. A reduced-calorie diet and more physical activity remain the foundation of any treatment.
Why are people stopping GLP-1 medicines?
Reasons are individual. Stopping should always be planned with your prescriber. In SURMOUNT-4, people who stopped tirzepatide after 36 weeks regained on average 14% of body weight over the following year, while those who continued treatment lost a further 5.5% on average. Speak to your prescriber before stopping. Tirzepatide has a half-life of about five days, so it takes roughly 4–5 weeks to clear after a final dose. Nothing needs doing while it clears.
Can I get Mounjaro on the NHS or should I go private?
Mounjaro is available on the NHS, but access is phased in over several years, starting with the highest-need groups. NICE recommends it for adults with a BMI of at least 35 plus a weight-related condition. Ask your GP about eligibility; if you meet the licensed criteria and prefer not to wait, regulated private treatment is an option.
