GLP-1 Modulation Tablets: What They Are and What Is Licensed (October 2026)
"GLP-1 modulation tablets" is a marketing phrase, not a medical category. The only GLP-1 weight-loss tablets licensed in the UK are Wegovy tablets (oral semaglutide) and Foundayo (orforglipron), both prescription-only. "Modulation" or "booster" supplements are not medicines and have no comparable trial evidence. Mounjaro has no tablet form; it is a weekly injection.
One pen. Four weekly doses.

01 · The short version
Are GLP-1 modulation tablets a real treatment?
The phrase is not a real treatment category. No UK-licensed medicine is sold under the name "GLP-1 modulation tablets". What exists falls into three groups: licensed GLP-1 tablets that need a prescription, licensed injections, and supplements marketed as natural GLP-1 support. Only the first two groups are medicines with trial evidence behind them.2021
Two GLP-1 weight-loss tablets are now licensed in the UK. Wegovy tablets contain oral semaglutide and are made by Novo Nordisk. Foundayo contains orforglipron and is made by Eli Lilly. They are different medicines from Mounjaro, with their own dosing, eligibility checks and trial results, and both are prescription-only. Other products that call themselves "modulators", "boosters" or "activators" are a different matter entirely.2021
Our page on booster-style products explains why that wording is a warning sign.
02 · Your decision
What are you actually deciding between?
Most readers face a practical choice: a daily tablet, a weekly injection, or something sold without a prescription.
| Option | What it is | How it is taken | Evidence |
|---|---|---|---|
| Wegovy tablets | Oral semaglutide, licensed, prescription-only | Once a day, strict empty-stomach routine | OASIS 4 trial |
| Foundayo | Orforglipron, licensed, prescription-only | Once a day, any time, with or without food | ATTAIN-1 trial |
| Mounjaro | Tirzepatide, licensed injection, prescription-only | Once-weekly pen | SURMOUNT-1 and SURMOUNT-5 trials |
| "Modulation" or "booster" supplements | Not medicines, not regulated for this use | Dosing is not standardised | No comparable trial evidence |
Results from separate trials should not be set against each other, because the people, durations and doses differ. The practical differences often matter as much as the averages: a rigid morning routine, a weekly injection, or no food rules at all. A prescriber will check which option fits your health, your other medicines and your day.2021
03 · What to do next
Where to go from here
If you are considering a licensed GLP-1 treatment, start with a free online consultation reviewed by a GPhC-registered prescriber. We supply Mounjaro through official LillyDirect supply, and the Mounjaro pen starts at a standard price of £169.99 per month for the 2.5mg pen, checked 10 October 2026. If a tablet is what you are after, see current prices on the Wegovy pill and Foundayo pages. Our weight loss clinic page explains the full pathway.
A new customer's first order is £40 off with code FIRST40, and every later order is £25 off (code DOSE25). The consultation is free and the price shown is the price paid.
04 · What GLP-1 means
What "GLP-1 modulation" is trying to describe
GLP-1 is a natural gut hormone, and "modulation" is a loose word used by sellers to suggest a product can influence it. The idea is real in medicine: licensed treatments act on GLP-1 receptors.
The mechanism of licensed treatments is well described. Tirzepatide, the active ingredient in Mounjaro, activates both GIP and GLP-1 receptors. Together these help regulate appetite, slow how quickly the stomach empties, and improve the way the body responds to insulin. In practice, most people feel fuller sooner and less hungry between meals, which supports a reduced-calorie diet.1
That dual action distinguishes Mounjaro from single-action GLP-1 medicines such as semaglutide. None is a general "modulator" you can take at will, and none is a supplement.
Why does the distinction matter? Because a licensed medicine has been assessed for quality, dosing and safety, and its trials are published. A product that borrows the vocabulary of GLP-1 science without that assessment can only borrow the vocabulary. It cannot borrow the evidence.
When you see "GLP-1 modulation" on a label or advert, ask four plain questions. Is it a prescription-only medicine? Is it licensed in the UK for weight management? Is a named trial published for it? Is a regulated prescriber reviewing you before supply? If the answer to any is no, you are not looking at the same kind of product as Wegovy tablets, Foundayo or Mounjaro.
Our wider explainer on modulation products goes into the language sellers use, and our page on GLP-1 and GIP tablets explains why a dual-action tablet does not exist as a licensed UK product today. Tirzepatide is injection-only in the UK.
If you are unsure which category a product belongs to, ask a pharmacist or your prescriber before taking it.
05 · Wegovy tablets
Wegovy tablets: the oral semaglutide option
Wegovy tablets are a licensed GLP-1 tablet containing semaglutide, the same active ingredient as the Wegovy injection, taken as one tablet once a day. They are made by Novo Nordisk and were approved by the MHRA in June 2026. They are prescription-only and are used alongside a reduced-calorie diet and more physical activity.20
They are licensed for weight management in adults with a BMI of 30 or above, or 27 to under 30 with at least one weight-related condition. Dosing is stepped. Treatment starts at 1.5mg once daily and steps up to 4mg, 9mg and then the 25mg maintenance dose, with at least one month at each dose; the dose can stay at an earlier step if needed.20
The routine is the defining feature. The tablet must be taken on an empty stomach after fasting for at least 8 hours, swallowed whole with a sip of water (up to half a glass, about 120ml), and you then wait at least 30 minutes before eating, drinking or taking other tablets. If a dose is missed, skip it and take the next tablet the following day.20
That routine suits some people well, especially those who prefer to avoid injections and already have a quiet morning. It suits others poorly, for example anyone who needs to take other tablets first thing. Your prescriber will talk this through with you.
For people already using the injection, the label also addresses switching. People on the 2.4mg weekly Wegovy injection can move to the 25mg tablet, starting one week after their last injection.20
The most common side effects are digestive: nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea, constipation, indigestion and stomach pain, along with headache and tiredness. Gallstones and hair loss are listed as common.22
To see the current position, visit the Wegovy pill page. Our wider overview of GLP-1 medication tablets sets the options side by side in plain language.
Wegovy tablets do not replace professional assessment. A GPhC-registered prescriber reviews your health history and other medicines before any supply decision. Never combine them with another GLP-1 medicine.
06 · Foundayo
Foundayo: the once-daily tablet with no food rules
Foundayo contains orforglipron, a once-daily GLP-1 tablet made by Eli Lilly, the maker of Mounjaro. It was approved in the UK in August 2026 and is prescription-only. Unlike Wegovy tablets it can be taken at any time of day, with or without food and without water restrictions; the tablet is swallowed whole.21
It is licensed for weight management in adults with a BMI of 30 or above, or 27 to under 30 with at least one weight-related condition, alongside a reduced-calorie diet and more physical activity.21
Treatment starts at 0.8mg once daily, then steps up to 2.5mg and 5.5mg, and then to 9mg, 14.5mg or 17.2mg depending on response and tolerability, with at least 30 days at each dose; 17.2mg once daily is the maximum.21
A missed dose is handled differently from Wegovy tablets. Take it as soon as possible, but never more than one tablet a day. That flexibility is the main practical appeal: there is no fasting window and no waiting period before breakfast or other tablets.21
Contraception needs attention. Foundayo may make oral contraceptive pills less effective: switch to a non-oral method or add a barrier method for 30 days after starting and for 30 days after each dose increase. The MHRA also publishes guidance on contraception with GLP-1 and GIP medicines, so tell your prescriber about any contraception you use.217
The most common side effects are digestive: nausea, constipation, diarrhoea, vomiting, indigestion and stomach pain.23
Foundayo is a different molecule from tirzepatide. It is a tablet that acts on GLP-1 only, so it is not a tablet version of Mounjaro, and it does not carry the dual GIP and GLP-1 action.
As with every prescription medicine, a GPhC-registered prescriber decides whether it is suitable after reviewing your answers. Payment is taken when you place the order; if the prescriber decides the treatment is not suitable, the order is refunded automatically in full.
07 · Do tablets work?
Do GLP-1 tablets really work?
Yes, the licensed tablets have published trial results showing average weight loss alongside diet and activity, but individual results vary. The figures for each tablet come from separate trials, so they must not be set against each other.
For Wegovy tablets, the OASIS 4 trial reported the following. In the OASIS 4 trial, adults taking semaglutide 25mg tablets for 64 weeks lost on average 13.6% of their body weight, compared with 2.2% on placebo. 76.3% lost at least 5% of their body weight (vs 30.5% on placebo) and 59.8% lost at least 10% (vs 14.1%).22
For Foundayo, the ATTAIN-1 trial reported this. In the ATTAIN-1 trial of 3,127 adults without type 2 diabetes, people taking the highest dose of orforglipron for 72 weeks lost on average 12.4% of their body weight, compared with 0.9% on placebo; the two lower doses gave 7.8% and 9.3%. The trial used capsules, and the UK 17.2mg tablet corresponds to the highest trial dose, so the tablet and capsule doses are not comparable milligram for milligram.23
Tolerability is part of "does it work". In ATTAIN-1, 10.3% of people on the highest dose stopped because of side effects, compared with 2.7% on placebo.23
How should you read these numbers? They are averages across a trial population. Some people lose more, some less, and a trial setting with structured support is not the same as everyday life. They also describe treatment taken as prescribed alongside a reduced-calorie diet and increased physical activity, not instead of them.
The trials differ in length, people and dose, and a higher number in one trial does not mean a better medicine for you. Choosing is about your health profile, your other medicines, your tolerance and whether the daily routine is realistic.
Compare that with supplements marketed as "modulators". They have no comparable trial evidence at all, so there is no honest average to quote. That absence is the most important difference between a medicine and a marketing claim.
08 · Tablets vs Mounjaro
GLP-1 tablets compared with the Mounjaro injection
Mounjaro is a once-weekly injection, while Wegovy tablets and Foundayo are once-daily tablets, and no trial has compared Mounjaro directly with either tablet. Results from separate trials, with different people, durations and doses, should not be set against each other as if they were head to head.
The one direct comparison that exists involves injections. SURMOUNT-5 is the trial that compared tirzepatide directly with injected semaglutide. In the first large head-to-head trial (SURMOUNT-5), adults on tirzepatide lost on average 20.2% of body weight over 72 weeks versus 13.7% on semaglutide 2.4mg (Wegovy). Both are effective, licensed treatments; which suits you depends on your health profile, tolerance and prescriber advice, not the headline number alone.15
For Mounjaro's own headline evidence, SURMOUNT-1 involved adults taking tirzepatide alongside diet and exercise. These are trial averages, and individual results vary. Treatment works alongside a reduced-calorie diet and increased physical activity, not instead of them.2
The practical differences are easier to weigh than the numbers:
- Wegovy tablets need a strict empty-stomach routine every morning.
- Foundayo has no food or water rules.
- Mounjaro needs one injection a week, with a pre-filled KwikPen, rather than a daily habit.
A prescriber will check which option is suitable for your health, your other medicines and your routine.
Mounjaro is licensed in the UK for weight management in adults and for type 2 diabetes. It comes as a pre-filled multi-dose pen in strengths from 2.5mg to 15mg. There is no tablet form of Mounjaro, so if a listing claims to sell "Mounjaro tablets", treat it with suspicion.1
If you are already on semaglutide and thinking of moving, there is no licensed direct conversion between semaglutide and tirzepatide. Switching is done under prescriber supervision, and you should never run two GLP-1 medicines together. You can read the Mounjaro pen page for the ordering pathway and live prices, or the Wegovy pen page for the injectable alternative.
09 · Supplements and boosters
Supplements, boosters and "natural GLP-1" products
Products sold as natural GLP-1 support, such as berberine, are not medicines, are not regulated for this use and have no comparable trial evidence.
They are usually cheap, easy to buy and sold without any assessment of your health. That low cost and easy access is exactly what makes them attractive, and exactly why they carry a different risk profile: nobody checks whether the product suits you, whether it interacts with your medicines, or whether the label tells the truth. Dosing is not standardised.
Be wary of dramatic weight-loss claims, especially phrases such as "nature's Ozempic". Ozempic is semaglutide licensed for type 2 diabetes; it is not a UK weight-loss medicine, and a supplement is not a substitute for it in any sense.
There is also a safety boundary around stacking. Mounjaro must not be combined with other GLP-1 medicines, unlicensed "research" peptides (such as retatrutide, which has no UK licence), or compounded copies. These combinations have no safety data and no regulated supply chain. If something promises faster results outside a licensed pathway, that is the warning sign.
If you take any supplement while on prescribed treatment, tell your prescriber. They need the full picture of what you take.
Counterfeit and unlicensed products are a real concern across weight-loss medicines. The MHRA publishes counterfeit medicine alerts and runs the Yellow Card scheme for reporting suspected side effects or suspect products. Buy only from a pharmacy you can find on the GPhC register; ours is GPhC 9012878, and you can check it on the GPhC register. Anyone offering to supply a prescription medicine without a consultation or prescription is not operating a regulated service.7
Our pages on booster-style products and on modulation products cover this wording in more detail.
10 · Safety and who should avoid
Safety: side effects, who should not take them, long-term questions
Whether a GLP-1 tablet is safe for you is a decision for a prescriber, not a website.
For Wegovy tablets, the most common side effects are digestive: nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea, constipation, indigestion and stomach pain, along with headache and tiredness. Gallstones and hair loss are listed as common.22 For Foundayo, the most common side effects are also digestive: nausea, constipation, diarrhoea, vomiting, indigestion and stomach pain.23
Who should not take them? Mounjaro is not suitable for everyone. You should not take it if you are allergic to tirzepatide or any of its ingredients, and it should not be used during pregnancy or while trying to conceive. Your prescriber will take extra care, or may recommend against treatment, if you have a history of pancreatitis, severe gut or digestive disease, diabetic retinopathy, or gallbladder problems. Mounjaro must not be used during pregnancy, and it should be stopped at least one month before trying to conceive. If you become pregnant during treatment, stop the medicine and tell your prescriber promptly. The licence sets out who each tablet is for: adults with a BMI of 30 or above, or 27 to under 30 with at least one weight-related condition. Beyond that, the prescriber reviews your health history, your other medicines and any contraception, because Foundayo may make oral contraceptive pills less effective. If you are unsure whether you are suitable, say so in the consultation.
Regulators have looked specifically at whether GLP-1 medicines are linked to low mood or suicidal thoughts: the EMA's safety committee reviewed the evidence and concluded in 2024 that it does not support a causal link, and the MHRA keeps this under continuous review. Any big change in weight, appetite and routine can affect how you feel, so tell your prescriber about any history of depression, and seek help promptly if your mood drops or you have distressing thoughts during treatment.
If you have thoughts of harming yourself or ending your life, get help straight away. Call 999 or go to A&E if you are in immediate danger. In England you can call NHS 111 and choose the mental health option, any time. You can also call Samaritans free on 116 123, day or night. Tell your prescriber about any change in your mood while taking Mounjaro.
For symptoms that no label lists, state them plainly to your prescriber. If a symptom such as a change in your face or skin is not a listed side effect in the product information, it is still worth raising. You can report any suspected side effect through the MHRA Yellow Card scheme.19
Our aftercare includes ongoing monthly reviews, dose titration and follow-up assessments by the prescribing team, plus side-effect support. Repeat orders re-check suitability, and there is no auto-shipping.
11 · Serious side effects
Serious side effects: when to get help straight away
Serious side effects are uncommon but need urgent attention. Seek immediate medical help for: severe, persistent stomach pain that may spread to your back, with or without vomiting (possible pancreatitis); pain in the upper right abdomen, fever or yellowing of skin/eyes (possible gallbladder problems); or signs of a severe allergic reaction such as swelling of the face or throat and difficulty breathing. If you take insulin or a sulfonylurea alongside Mounjaro, watch for low blood sugar (shakiness, sweating, confusion) — your prescriber may need to adjust those medicines.1
12 · NHS, private and ordering
NHS or private: how access works
Mounjaro is available on the NHS, but access is being phased in over several years. NICE recommends it for adults with a BMI of at least 35 plus at least one weight-related condition, and the NHS primary-care rollout began in June 2025 with the highest-need groups first (initially BMI 40+ with four or more qualifying conditions). Full rollout is expected to take years, which is why many people who meet the licensed criteria choose regulated private treatment rather than waiting.46
Ask your GP about what is available locally. NHS access to Wegovy runs through specialist weight-management services; ask your GP. If you are prescribed anything on the NHS in England, the standard prescription charge of £9.90 applies per item unless you are exempt.
If you choose a private route, here is how ordering works with us:
- Complete a free online consultation, a short health questionnaire with no charge and no obligation.
- A GPhC-registered prescriber reviews it, not a scoring script. Payment is taken when you place the order; if the prescriber decides the treatment is not suitable, the order is refunded automatically in full.
- Our registered pharmacy dispenses and dispatches the same day when ordered by 3pm, with free next-day tracked delivery in discreet, temperature-controlled packaging. Saturday delivery is £14.99.
Mounjaro is supplied through official LillyDirect supply, sourced directly from Eli Lilly's UK distribution, and all six doses are in stock. Payment options include Visa, Mastercard, Klarna and pay-monthly options, with no subscriptions.
For planning purposes, here is what the Mounjaro pathway costs at standard prices before discounts. The first four pens (2.5mg to 10mg), if you step up after 4 weeks on each dose, cost £959.96. A first year costs £2,711.88 if you stay on 5mg after your 2.5mg starting pen, up to £3,599.88 if you step up through every dose to 15mg. A new customer's first order is £40 less with code FIRST40, and every later order is £25 less (code DOSE25).
Support is available Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm, by email at support@everydaymeds.co.uk, account portal chat or phone on 0333 207 0413. Our free GLPTrackr app helps you track your journey on iOS and Android. If you are comparing tablets with the injection, the weight loss clinic page is the best place to start.
Treatment is used alongside a reduced-calorie diet and increased physical activity. Individual results vary. This page is information, not a substitute for medical advice.
