Your Mounjaro price guide · October 2026

Does Your Body Get Used to Mounjaro? (October 2026)

Yes, your body adjusts to Mounjaro, mainly in how it tolerates the medicine: early effects like mild nausea, altered appetite and tiredness usually settle1. The 2.5mg start is for adjustment, not weight loss itself, and doses step up from there1. Progress is judged over months, not days. Current as of October 2026.

A quick overview

What to know
before you start.

  • Early side effects such as mild nausea and tiredness are the commonest and usually settle as you adjust.
  • The 2.5mg starting dose is about adjustment, not weight loss; most measurable progress builds from 5mg onward.
  • Higher is not automatically better: many people settle at 5mg, 10mg or 15mg.
  • Judge progress by the trend over weeks and months, not single weigh-ins.
In this guide

01 · The core answer

Does your body get used to Mounjaro, or does it stop working?

Your body does adjust to the medicine, and the clearest sign is that early side effects usually settle. Mild nausea, altered appetite and tiredness in the first days after each injection are the commonest early effects and usually ease1.

That is different from losing effectiveness. If you want more detail, read our guide on whether your body gets used to tirzepatide and stops working.

02 · Your next step

What should you do if it feels like it has stopped working?

First, check the pace. Weight loss on Mounjaro is gradual by design, and trials measured results at 72 weeks, so think in months rather than days1. Judge progress by trend, not individual weigh-ins.

Second, talk to your prescriber. If you have lost less than 5% of your starting weight after 6 months on the highest dose you can tolerate, they will discuss whether continuing or stopping is right for you1. Our free consultation is reviewed by a GPhC-registered prescriber, and ongoing monthly reviews are included.

If you are starting or restarting, the Mounjaro pen is in stock across all six doses. Standard prices run from £169.99 per month at 2.5mg; a new customer's first order is £40 less with code FIRST40. Prices checked 10 October 2026.

03 · The dose ladder

How the dose ladder lets you adjust

Everyone starts on 2.5mg once a week, and this dose is about letting your body adjust, not about weight loss itself1. After at least 4 weeks the dose increases to 5mg. It can then rise by 2.5mg at minimum 4-week intervals (7.5mg, 10mg, 12.5mg) up to 15mg weekly, depending on how you respond and tolerate it1.

Many people settle at 5mg, 10mg or 15mg. Higher is not automatically better, and your prescriber guides the pace1. See how long it takes to get used to Mounjaro for more on timing.

04 · First weeks

What the first weeks on 2.5mg are like

Experiences differ widely in the first weeks. Some people notice an appetite change and early loss in week one, while others feel little until a higher dose, and both are normal1.

Early loss includes water weight, so the trend over weeks matters more than any single weigh-in1. The first weeks are an adjustment phase and losses are usually modest, with most measurable progress building from 5mg onward, month by month1.

StageWhat to expect
First weeks on 2.5mgAdjustment phase; losses usually modest; some feel little
After at least 4 weeksDose can rise to 5mg if tolerated
From 5mg onwardMost measurable progress builds, month by month

05 · Staying on 2.5mg

Can you stay on 2.5mg and still lose weight?

2.5mg is designed as a starting dose for tolerability, and most measurable progress builds from 5mg onward1. Some people do lose weight early on it, but the licensed plan is to step up as tolerated.

06 · What the trials show

What the trial results show over time

In SURMOUNT-1, 2,539 adults on tirzepatide alongside diet and exercise lost on average 15% of body weight on 5mg, 19.5% on 10mg and 20.9% on 15mg over 72 weeks, versus 3.1% with lifestyle changes alone2. These are trial averages and individual results vary.

At 72 weeks, 85% on 5mg, 89% on 10mg and 91% on 15mg had lost at least 5% of body weight2. Treatment works alongside a reduced-calorie diet and increased physical activity, not instead of them.

07 · Keeping it consistent

Injecting consistently helps you adjust

Inject once a week on the same day, at any time of day, with or without food1. There is no best time of day; many people choose a weekend morning so early side effects fall on days off1.

If you miss a dose, take it within 4 days (96 hours) of the scheduled time. After more than 4 days, skip it and take the next on your normal day, and never take two doses within 3 days of each other1. You can change your injection day if at least 3 days have passed since your last dose1.

08 · Related reading

Tirzepatide activates two gut-hormone receptors, GIP and GLP-1, helping regulate appetite and slow stomach emptying1. Our guides on whether your body gets used to GLP-1 medicines and getting used to Mounjaro go deeper. To compare treatments, see all weight loss treatments, or go to buy Mounjaro.

Mounjaro (tirzepatide) is a prescription-only medicine, supplied only after an online consultation reviewed by a GPhC-registered prescriber. Individual results vary. This page is information, not a substitute for medical advice.

09 · Serious side effects

Serious side effects: when to get help straight away

Serious side effects are uncommon but need urgent attention. Seek immediate medical help for: severe, persistent stomach pain that may spread to your back, with or without vomiting (possible pancreatitis); pain in the upper right abdomen, fever or yellowing of skin/eyes (possible gallbladder problems); or signs of a severe allergic reaction such as swelling of the face or throat and difficulty breathing. If you take insulin or a sulfonylurea alongside Mounjaro, watch for low blood sugar (shakiness, sweating, confusion) — your prescriber may need to adjust those medicines.1

Your questions, answered

Mounjaro price UK — frequently asked questions

Answers to common questions about Mounjaro prices, NHS access and ongoing treatment.

Ask our pharmacy team
Does Mounjaro lose effectiveness over time?
SURMOUNT-1 measured results over 72 weeks. What changes is pace: early weeks on 2.5mg are an adjustment phase, and progress builds from 5mg onward.
Can you build up a tolerance to Mounjaro?
Your body adjusts to the medicine, so early side effects such as mild nausea and tiredness usually settle. That is tolerability, not the drug failing. Doses step up gradually from 2.5mg for this reason. If results stall, speak to your prescriber rather than changing doses yourself.
How long until your body gets used to Mounjaro?
There is no fixed day. Mild nausea, altered appetite and tiredness in the first days after each injection usually settle. The dose can rise after at least 4 weeks, and side effects can be felt again at a new dose. Experiences differ widely, so follow your prescriber's pace.
Can you stay on 2.5 Mounjaro and still lose weight?
Some people notice early loss on 2.5mg, but it is a starting dose designed for adjustment, and most measurable progress builds from 5mg onward. Do not alter doses yourself.
Do you become resistant to Mounjaro?
Resistance to tirzepatide is not listed in the Mounjaro patient leaflet; speak to your prescriber if progress slows. If you have lost less than 5% of starting weight after 6 months on the highest dose you can tolerate, your prescriber will discuss continuing, adjusting or stopping.
What drugs should you not take with Mounjaro?
Tell your prescriber about all your medicines before starting. Mounjaro can reduce absorption of oral contraceptives because stomach emptying slows, and insulin or sulfonylurea doses may need adjusting due to low blood sugar risk. If you are pregnant or planning to conceive, Mounjaro must not be used during pregnancy, and it should be stopped at least one month before trying to conceive. If you become pregnant during treatment, stop the medicine and tell your prescriber promptly. If you take the contraceptive pill, the SmPC advises switching to a non-oral method, or adding a barrier method (such as condoms), for 4 weeks after starting Mounjaro and for 4 weeks after each dose increase.1 Your prescriber assesses current medicines before deciding whether it suits you.
Does the body get used to tirzepatide the same way as Mounjaro?
Yes. Mounjaro is the brand name for tirzepatide, so the same adjustment applies: early side effects usually settle and the dose steps up gradually from 2.5mg to a maximum of 15mg weekly, depending on response and tolerability.
