Does GLP-1 Help With Cellulite? The Honest UK Answer (October 2026)

GLP-1 medicines do not treat cellulite directly. They are licensed for weight management and type 2 diabetes, not for skin texture, so any change you see comes indirectly from losing body fat. For some people cellulite looks a little softer as weight falls, for others it looks unchanged, and sometimes it looks more obvious as the skin loosens. Results vary.

A quick overview

What to know
before you start.

  • GLP-1 medicines are licensed for weight management and type 2 diabetes. Cellulite is not a licensed use.
  • Cellulite comes from how fat and connective tissue sit under the skin, so losing weight does not reliably remove it.
  • Some people notice smoother-looking skin as weight falls. Others see no change, or looser skin that shows dimpling more.
  • Resistance exercise and a gradual pace of weight loss are sensible ways to support how your body looks during treatment.
  • Never start a prescription medicine only for cellulite. Treatment is judged on weight and health, by a prescriber.
In this guide

01 · The core answer

Does GLP-1 help with cellulite?

Not directly. Mounjaro (tirzepatide) is licensed in the UK for weight management in adults and for type 2 diabetes, and its action is on gut-hormone receptors that regulate appetite and stomach emptying.1 Nothing in that licence relates to the skin, connective tissue or the dimpled texture people call cellulite.

What a GLP-1 or GIP/GLP-1 medicine can do is help you lose body fat alongside a reduced-calorie diet and more physical activity. Whether that changes your cellulite depends on where you carry weight, your skin, your age, your genetics and how quickly the weight comes off.

If you want a deeper look at one specific medicine, our guides on whether Mounjaro helps cellulite and Mounjaro and cellulite go through it, and whether GLP-1 gets rid of cellulite covers the “removal” question.

02 · Your decision

Is this a reason to start treatment?

No. A prescription weight-loss medicine should be started because your weight affects your health, not to change skin texture. It is supplied only after an online consultation reviewed by a GPhC-registered prescriber, and it is used alongside a reduced-calorie diet and increased physical activity.1

If you already meet the licensed criteria and are weighing up treatment, cellulite is better seen as a possible side topic, not the goal. You can read how our service works on the Mounjaro pen page, or see our wider weight loss clinic.

If cellulite is your only concern, speak to your GP or a skin specialist instead. They can talk through options that are actually aimed at skin, without the risks and commitment of a prescription medicine.

03 · What cellulite is

What cellulite actually is

Cellulite is the dimpled, uneven look that often appears on the thighs, hips, buttocks and sometimes the abdomen. It is common, harmless and not a medical condition. It is usually described as the result of fat pushing up against bands of connective tissue that tether the skin, which creates the pitted surface.

That explains why it is not simply a matter of how much fat you carry. Slim people can have visible cellulite, and people with higher body weight may have very little. Hormones, genetics, age, skin thickness and where the body stores fat all play a part, which is why the same weight change produces such different results in different people.

Because the cause sits in skin structure as well as fat volume, a medicine that works on appetite cannot be expected to reach it directly. That is the key reason we say GLP-1 treatment is not a cellulite treatment.

04 · Weight loss and cellulite

Does weight loss decrease cellulite?

Sometimes it softens the look, sometimes it does not. Losing fat can reduce the pressure pushing up against the skin in some areas, so dimpling may look less pronounced. In others, the skin loosens as the fat beneath it shrinks, and the texture can look more obvious, not less.

Substantial weight loss is possible with tirzepatide. In the SURMOUNT-1 trial, average losses were large at the higher doses over 72 weeks, but the trial measured body weight, not skin appearance.2 These are trial averages: individual results vary, and treatment works alongside a reduced-calorie diet and increased physical activity, not instead of them.2

A fair way to think about it is that weight loss changes the canvas, and your skin and genetics decide what shows. Expect an unpredictable result and judge treatment on health outcomes.

05 · Sagging skin and body shape

Does GLP-1 weight loss cause sagging skin?

Skin that has been stretched for a long time may not tighten fully when body fat reduces, and this is a general feature of weight loss however it is achieved. The faster and larger the weight change, and the older the skin, the more likely it is that some looseness will show.

Does GLP-1 change your body shape? Weight loss of any kind changes shape, because fat reduces in several places at once. Where you lose it first is largely down to your genetics and sex hormones, and you cannot choose it. People often notice changes in the face, waist, hips and thighs at different speeds.

Looser skin and changing shape can make cellulite look different, not necessarily better or worse. If skin laxity worries you, mention it during your monthly review so your prescriber can talk about pace and expectations.

Building muscle through resistance exercise is a commonly recommended way to support how the body looks as weight reduces. Our prescribing team can suggest how to fit more physical activity around treatment, which the licence expects anyway.1

06 · Face, age and the Ozempic look

Do GLP-1s change your face or make you look younger?

The medicines themselves are not an anti-ageing treatment. What people describe as a “GLP-1 face” is generally the effect of losing fat from the face along with the rest of the body. How noticeable it is depends on your starting point and how much weight you lose, so discuss any facial changes with your prescriber.

Can you smell when someone is on Ozempic? Ozempic is semaglutide licensed for type 2 diabetes; it is not a UK weight-loss medicine. Body odour is not listed as a side effect in the UK Mounjaro patient leaflet. If you notice any new or unusual symptom while on treatment, discuss it with your prescriber and report it through the MHRA Yellow Card scheme.19

07 · Liposuction versus medicine

Which is better for weight loss: liposuction or Mounjaro?

They do different jobs, so “better” depends on the goal. Mounjaro is a once-weekly injection licensed for weight management, which works on appetite and is used alongside diet and activity.1 Tirzepatide trials measure whole-body weight change.2

Liposuction is a surgical procedure that removes fat from chosen areas to reshape them. It is generally described as body contouring, not a weight-loss treatment, and it carries surgical risks and recovery. Surgeons also commonly say it does not remove cellulite on its own, because the structure under the skin remains.

Some people use medicine to lose weight and then consider contouring afterwards, but that is a decision for a qualified surgeon. We do not provide surgical advice, and we would not suggest either option as a fix for cellulite alone.

08 · What may help instead

What can you do about cellulite?

Be wary of anything promising to remove it. Creams, devices, supplements and “natural” injections sold with dramatic weight-loss or skin claims usually have little behind them. Low-cost supplements carry no clinical oversight, and none of them is a licensed treatment for cellulite.

Sensible, low-risk habits are the realistic starting point. Regular resistance training builds muscle under the skin, which can improve firmness and shape. Staying active, keeping weight stable once you reach a comfortable level and avoiding repeated cycles of large gain and loss are all reasonable. Our page on GLP-1 and lymphatic drainage covers another idea people ask about.

If you want a professional opinion on a visible skin concern, ask your GP or a dermatology clinic what is available and what evidence supports it.

The medicine itself should be used as the licence describes: with a reduced-calorie diet and increased physical activity, under review by a prescriber.1

09 · Serious side effects

Serious side effects: when to get help straight away

Serious side effects are uncommon but need urgent attention. Seek immediate medical help for: severe, persistent stomach pain that may spread to your back, with or without vomiting (possible pancreatitis); pain in the upper right abdomen, fever or yellowing of skin/eyes (possible gallbladder problems); or signs of a severe allergic reaction such as swelling of the face or throat and difficulty breathing. If you take insulin or a sulfonylurea alongside Mounjaro, watch for low blood sugar (shakiness, sweating, confusion) — your prescriber may need to adjust those medicines.1

10 · Weight loss on the NHS

NHS and private access to treatment

If weight is the real reason you are considering treatment, there are two routes. Mounjaro is available on the NHS, but access is being phased in over several years. NICE recommends it for adults with a BMI of at least 35 plus at least one weight-related condition, and the NHS primary-care rollout began in June 2025 with the highest-need groups first.46

Many people who meet the licensed criteria choose regulated private treatment rather than waiting. With us, the consultation is free, a GPhC-registered prescriber reviews every order, and ongoing monthly reviews are included. Payment is taken when you place the order; if the prescriber decides the treatment is not suitable, the order is refunded automatically in full.

Whichever route you take, treatment is assessed on weight and health. Cellulite changes, good or bad, are a side note.

Your questions, answered

Mounjaro price UK — frequently asked questions

Answers to common questions about Mounjaro prices, NHS access and ongoing treatment.

Ask our pharmacy team
Does GLP-1 help with cellulite?
Not directly. GLP-1 medicines are licensed for weight management and type 2 diabetes, not for skin texture. Losing body fat may make cellulite look softer for some people, but for others it looks unchanged or more noticeable as skin loosens.
Does weight loss decrease cellulite?
It can for some people, but not reliably. Cellulite depends on how fat and connective tissue sit beneath the skin, along with genetics, hormones and age. Weight loss may soften the look in certain areas, while skin that loosens as fat reduces can make dimpling more obvious in others.
Does GLP-1 weight loss cause sagging skin?
Skin may not tighten fully after any significant weight loss, and this is not specific to one medicine. If it concerns you, raise it with your prescriber at your monthly review.
Does GLP-1 change your body shape?
Weight loss of any kind changes body shape because fat reduces in several areas. Where you lose it first is largely down to genetics and hormones, so you cannot choose it. Resistance exercise alongside treatment can help support muscle and firmness. Individual results vary.
Why does GLP-1 change your face?
The medicine is not known to act on the face directly. Facial changes are generally the result of losing fat across the whole body, including the face. How noticeable that is depends on your starting weight, age, skin and how much weight you lose.
Which is better for weight loss, liposuction or Mounjaro?
They serve different purposes. Mounjaro is a licensed once-weekly medicine for weight management, used with a reduced-calorie diet and more activity. Liposuction is surgery that reshapes chosen areas and is not generally seen as a weight-loss treatment. Discuss surgery with a qualified surgeon, and treatment with a prescriber.
Can you smell when someone is on Ozempic?
Ozempic is semaglutide licensed for type 2 diabetes; it is not a UK weight-loss medicine. Body odour is not listed as a side effect in the UK Mounjaro patient leaflet. If you notice any new or unusual symptom during treatment, speak to your prescriber and report it through the MHRA Yellow Card scheme.
What does Kim Kardashian use for cellulite?
Public claims about celebrity treatments are not reliable evidence. No medicine we supply is licensed for cellulite. For a skin concern, a GP or dermatology clinic can explain what options exist and what evidence supports them.
