A quick overview

What to know
before you start.

  • There is no safe blanket answer: your prescriber reviews your antidepressant and the injection together.
  • Always declare antidepressants and any history of low mood in the consultation.
  • Never stop or change an antidepressant to make room for a weight loss injection.
  • Report any new symptom to your prescriber and via the Yellow Card scheme.
  • Mounjaro is a prescription-only medicine, supplied after a review by a GPhC-registered prescriber.
In this guide

01 · Your decision

Should you take an injection if you are on an antidepressant?

That decision belongs with a prescriber who can see your full medicine list. What matters is which medicines you take, your health history and how stable you currently feel.

If you already take an antidepressant, the practical steps are simple:

  • Keep taking your antidepressant exactly as prescribed.
  • List it, with any other medicines, in the consultation.
  • Mention any past or current low mood, anxiety or eating difficulties.
  • Ask your own GP or mental health team if you are unsure.

Our consultation is free, with no obligation, and is reviewed by a GPhC-registered prescriber.

02 · What we can and cannot say

How Mounjaro works and where to find its cautions

Mounjaro activates the GIP and GLP-1 receptors, which helps regulate appetite and slows how quickly the stomach empties. The full list of cautions sits in the patient information leaflet, which every user should read.13

For a deeper look at specific pairings, see our guides on Mounjaro with antidepressants, antidepressants with GLP-1 medicines and antidepressants and weight loss medication.

03 · Antidepressants and weight

Antidepressants and weight: why results differ

Antidepressants affect people's weight in different ways, and the effect depends on the individual and the medicine. Some people notice a change in appetite, others notice nothing. That is why a struggle to lose weight on an antidepressant is worth raising with your GP rather than assuming it is your fault.

Our guide explains whether antidepressants are appetite suppressants. Do not switch or stop an antidepressant to chase weight loss. Any change should be agreed with the doctor who prescribed it, because stopping suddenly can cause problems.

04 · If you feel different

What to do if you notice new symptoms

Tell your prescriber if your mood, sleep or anxiety changes after starting any weight loss injection. Do not wait for your next review. If you have thoughts of harming yourself or ending your life, get help straight away. Call 999 or go to A&E if you are in immediate danger. In England you can call NHS 111 and choose the mental health option, any time. You can also call Samaritans free on 116 123, day or night. Tell your prescriber about any change in your mood while taking Mounjaro. You can also report a suspected side effect through the Yellow Card scheme.19

Our aftercare includes ongoing monthly reviews, dose-titration support and side-effect support from the prescribing team. Repeat orders re-check suitability, and nothing ships automatically.

05 · What to expect from treatment

What to expect from treatment

Weight loss on Mounjaro is gradual by design, and everyone starts on 2.5mg to let the body adjust. Your prescriber reviews progress, and the pace should never be rushed. Mood and wellbeing matter as much as the scales, so say how you are feeling at every review.

06 · Serious side effects

Serious side effects: when to get help straight away

Serious side effects are uncommon but need urgent attention. Seek immediate medical help for: severe, persistent stomach pain that may spread to your back, with or without vomiting (possible pancreatitis); pain in the upper right abdomen, fever or yellowing of skin/eyes (possible gallbladder problems); or signs of a severe allergic reaction such as swelling of the face or throat and difficulty breathing. If you take insulin or a sulfonylurea alongside Mounjaro, watch for low blood sugar (shakiness, sweating, confusion) — your prescriber may need to adjust those medicines.1

How ordering works

How ordering works at EverydayMeds

Three steps, with our pharmacy team alongside you.

  1. EverydayMeds online consultation on a mobile phone

    Step 1: Online consultation — 5–10 minutes

Complete a confidential health questionnaire covering BMI, medical history and current medication. No payment is taken until you're approved.

  2. A clinician ready to review an online consultation

Step 2: Prescriber review — usually same day

A UK registered prescriber checks your suitability against the licensed criteria (BMI ≥30, or ≥27 with a weight-related condition) and contraindications, and confirms your starting dose.

  3. An EverydayMeds delivery box

    Step 3: Next-day tracked delivery

Dispensed by our GPhC-registered pharmacy in temperature-controlled packaging with needles and a sharps bin included. Orders approved by 3pm for next-day tracked delivery.

Start your free consultation

Prescription and dispatch follow clinical approval. Confirm current delivery options when ordering.

Afterwards you're not on your own: dose-change reviews are built in before each step up, our pharmacist team is available for side-effect questions, and repeat orders re-check suitability rather than auto-shipping.

Your questions, answered

Mounjaro price UK — frequently asked questions

Answers to common questions about Mounjaro prices, NHS access and ongoing treatment.

Ask our pharmacy team
Can you take Ozempic if you are on antidepressants?
There is no universal answer. A prescriber needs to review your antidepressant and any other medicines before any GLP-1 medicine is started. Tell them everything you take, including supplements. Ozempic is semaglutide licensed for type 2 diabetes — it is not a UK weight-loss medicine, and a regulated UK pharmacy will not supply Ozempic for weight loss. Never stop your antidepressant without medical advice.
Can Wegovy be safely taken with antidepressants?
That is a decision for a prescriber who can see your full medicine list. The Wegovy patient information and SmPC list its cautions, and your prescriber or pharmacist can explain how they apply to you. Always declare your antidepressant before starting.
What weight loss medication can you take with antidepressants?
Which medicine suits you depends on your antidepressant, your health and your goals, so there is no single list. A prescriber should review every combination individually. Our free consultation is reviewed by a GPhC-registered prescriber who will check your medicines before any treatment is approved.
Why can't I lose weight while taking antidepressants?
Several things can slow weight loss, and some antidepressants can affect appetite or weight in certain people. Sleep, activity, other health conditions and stress also play a part. Do not stop your antidepressant on your own. Speak to your GP, who can review your treatment and suggest sensible options.
Which antidepressant is most effective for weight loss and anxiety?
Antidepressants are not licensed as weight loss treatments, and we do not recommend choosing one for that purpose. The right antidepressant is chosen for your mood or anxiety, and the effect on weight varies between people. Discuss any weight concerns with the doctor who prescribes it.
Why are people stopping Wegovy?
People stop for different personal reasons, such as tolerability, cost or a change in circumstances. If you are thinking of stopping any weight loss injection, talk to your prescriber first so they can discuss adjusting or changing treatment safely.
What is the hardest antidepressant to come off?
Experiences of coming off antidepressants differ between people and medicines. What matters is that you never stop suddenly without advice. Your GP can plan a gradual reduction if appropriate and monitor how you feel along the way.
