How to get Mounjaro from a pharmacy

Mounjaro is a prescription-only medicine, so every legitimate pharmacy supply starts with an assessment. It is licensed for weight management in adults with a BMI of 30 or above, or 27 to 30 with at least one weight-related condition such as high blood pressure, prediabetes or type 2 diabetes. A prescriber reviews your BMI, medical history and current medicines before deciding.¹

It is used alongside a reduced-calorie diet and increased physical activity, not instead of them.¹ A weight loss consultation is therefore about your overall health and medical history, not just a number on the scales.

There are two practical routes. Some high-street pharmacies run in-store private weight-loss services, but availability differs by branch, so phone ahead. 05 · Two pharmacies at once

Can you order Mounjaro from two pharmacies?

You should not split your supply across two pharmacies. Mounjaro follows a set dose ladder: everyone starts on 2.5mg weekly, and the dose rises after at least 4 weeks on each dose, up to a maximum of 15mg, depending on response and tolerance.¹ A prescriber can only guide that pace if they know everything you have taken.

Duplicate orders risk overlapping doses. 06 · Can pharmacists prescribe it?

Can a pharmacist prescribe Mounjaro?

Supply needs a prescription from an authorised prescriber, which may be a doctor or a prescribing pharmacist working within a regulated service. A pharmacy counter cannot hand it over on request.¹ At EverydayMeds, every order is reviewed by a GPhC-registered prescriber.

07 · NHS access

What about the NHS?

Mounjaro is available on the NHS, but access is being phased in over several years. NICE recommends it for adults with a BMI of at least 35 plus at least one weight-related condition. The primary-care rollout began in June 2025 with the highest-need groups first, initially BMI 40+ with four or more qualifying conditions.⁴⁶ Full rollout is expected to take years, so many people who meet the licensed criteria choose regulated private treatment instead. 08 · Avoiding fake pens

How to avoid counterfeit Mounjaro

The MHRA has seized thousands of fake weight-loss pens in the UK and issued alerts about falsified Mounjaro. Some fakes contained insulin rather than tirzepatide and caused hospitalisations.⁷ Only buy from a pharmacy you can verify on the GPhC register, never from social media, beauty salons or unverified websites.¹² Genuine treatment always involves a prescription and a clinical consultation.

Genuine UK stock comes through Lilly's official distribution to licensed pharmacies, and every pen carries a batch number and expiry date. 09 · Who should not take it

Who should not take Mounjaro?

Mounjaro is not suitable for everyone. You should not take it if you are allergic to tirzepatide or any of its ingredients, and it should not be used during pregnancy or while trying to conceive. Your prescriber will take extra care, or may recommend against treatment, if you have a history of pancreatitis, severe gut or digestive disease, diabetic retinopathy or gallbladder problems.¹³ Always share your full medical history and medicine list in the consultation, whether it is in store or online.

If you become pregnant during treatment, stop the medicine and tell your prescriber promptly. Mounjaro should be stopped at least one month before trying to conceive.¹

Mounjaro slows stomach emptying, which can reduce how well oral contraceptive pills are absorbed. The advice is to switch to a non-oral method, or add a barrier method such as condoms, for 4 weeks after starting and for 4 weeks after each dose increase. This applies to the pill only; implants, coils and injections are unaffected.¹⁷

10 · Side effects

What side effects can you expect?

Like all medicines, Mounjaro can cause side effects, and most are digestive. The most common, affecting more than 1 in 10 people, are nausea, diarrhoea, vomiting, constipation and abdominal discomfort. Common effects, up to 1 in 10 people, include indigestion, reduced appetite, dizziness, reflux, burping, hair shedding and injection-site reactions.¹³

Side effects are most likely when starting treatment or moving up a dose, and for most people they ease within days to a few weeks as the body adjusts. If you take insulin or a sulfonylurea, watch for low blood sugar (shakiness, sweating, confusion), because your prescriber may need to adjust those medicines.¹³

11 · Using your pen

Using and storing your pen

Mounjaro is injected under the skin once a week, on the same day each week, at any time of day, with or without food. Licensed sites are the stomach area (at least 5cm from the belly button), the front of the thigh, or the back of the upper arm if someone else gives the injection. Rotate the site each time.¹ Needles, a sharps bin and injection guidance come with every order from us.

Keep pens in a fridge at 2 to 8°C and never freeze them. Once in use, a pen can be kept out of the fridge at a temperature not above 30°C for up to 30 days after first use, and must then be thrown away. Do not use a pen that has been above 30°C or frozen, and keep the cap on to protect it from light.¹

If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you can within 4 days (96 hours) of the scheduled time. If more than 4 days have passed, skip it and take the next dose on your normal day, and never take two doses within 3 days of each other.¹

12 · Dosing and results

What to expect once you start

In the SURMOUNT-1 trial of 2,539 adults, people taking tirzepatide alongside diet and exercise lost on average 15% of their body weight on 5mg, 19.5% on 10mg and 20.9% on 15mg over 72 weeks, compared with 3.1% with lifestyle changes alone. These are trial averages and individual results vary.² For someone starting at 100 kg, 20.9% is about 21 kg.

Weight loss is gradual by design. The first weeks on 2.5mg are an adjustment phase, and most measurable progress builds from 5mg onward, month by month. Think in months, not days. If you have lost less than 5% of your starting weight after 6 months on the highest dose you can tolerate, your prescriber will discuss whether continuing is right for you.⁴

The 2.5mg start is about letting your body adjust rather than weight loss itself. Many people settle at 5mg, 10mg or 15mg, and higher is not automatically better.¹ Mounjaro is used alongside a reduced-calorie diet and increased physical activity. Individual results vary.
