Can You Fly With Mounjaro? A UK Travel Guide (October 2026)
Yes, you can fly with Mounjaro. Carry your pens in hand luggage, never in the hold, because hold luggage can fall below freezing. Ideally keep them in a cool bag with the prescription label or a copy of your prescription. An in-use pen tolerates up to 30 days not above 30°C, so most holidays need no special arrangements.1 Guidance current as of October 2026.

What to know
before you start.
-
Pack Mounjaro pens in hand luggage only. Hold luggage can fall below freezing, and a frozen pen must never be used.
-
Keep the pen in its original box with the pharmacy label, or carry a copy of your prescription.
-
An in-use pen can stay out of the fridge not above 30°C for up to 30 days, which covers most holidays.
-
Unopened pens belong in the fridge at 2–8°C. If one has been out, ask the pharmacy before using it.
-
Check your destination's rules for prescription injectables, and tell your travel insurer about your treatment.
In this guide
01 · The core answer
Can you fly with Mounjaro in your carry-on?
Yes, you can fly with Mounjaro, and hand luggage is where the pens belong. Hold luggage can fall below freezing, and a pen that has frozen must never be used.1 Treat the pens like any other temperature-sensitive medicine: with you, in the cabin, within easy reach.
02 · What to decide
The decisions you actually face before a flight
First, is your current pen in use or unopened? Second, will the trip stay within the in-use window? Third, do you know the rules at your destination?
| Your situation | What to do |
|---|---|
| Pen already in use, short trip | Keep it in hand luggage in a cool bag. An in-use pen can stay out of the fridge not above 30°C for up to 30 days.1 |
| Hot destination | Use an insulated pouch, keep the pen out of direct sun, and keep the cap on to protect it from light.1 |
| Spare unopened pens for a long stay | Keep them in the fridge at 2–8°C until first use. Plan fridge access at your destination, such as a hotel fridge.13 |
| Unopened pen that has been out of the fridge | Check with the pharmacy before using it rather than relying on a remembered day limit.1 |

03 · Packing your pens
How to pack Mounjaro for a flight
Pack Mounjaro in hand luggage, ideally in a cool bag with the prescription label or a copy of your prescription.1 A practical packing list looks like this:
- Your pen in its original box, so the pharmacy label, batch number and expiry date stay visible.
- A printed or saved copy of your prescription.
- A cool bag or insulated pouch. Keep the pen away from direct contact with ice packs, because a frozen pen must never be used.1
- Spare needles and a small travel sharps container, so you can dispose of them safely.
- A note of your injection day and your current dose.
Keep the cap on the pen at all times unless you are injecting. This protects the medicine from light.1 If you want to know how the pen itself differs from other formats, our page on the Mounjaro pen versus cartridge explains the difference.
Needles, a sharps bin and injection guidance come with every order from us. Even so, a small travel sharps container is a sensible accessory, because a full-size bin is awkward to carry.
04 · Temperature and heat
Keeping Mounjaro at the right temperature while travelling
Mounjaro pens should be kept in a fridge at 2–8°C and never frozen.1 Travel puts pressure on both ends of that range: freezing in a cold hold, and heat on a transfer or beach.
Once in use, a pen can be kept out of the fridge not above 30°C for up to 30 days, which suits short trips, after which it should be discarded.1 For hot climates, use an insulated pouch. Never leave the pen in a parked car, a sunny windowsill or a beach bag.
Before every injection abroad, look at the solution. A genuine pen contains a clear, colourless liquid. Do not use a pen that has been frozen, looks cloudy or discoloured, has particles in it, is past its expiry, or has been out of the fridge for more than 30 days, or above 30°C in use.1
Figures circulating online often come from other countries' labels.1 For UK pens, rely on the UK leaflet.
05 · Security and paperwork
Airport security, prescriptions and destination rules
Check your destination's rules for travelling with prescription injectables before you fly.1 Rules differ between countries, and some are stricter than the UK on medicines and needles. Your airline and the destination country's embassy or official travel guidance are the right places to confirm.
At the security checkpoint, tell the officer you are carrying a medicine and injection pens. Show the pharmacy label or prescription copy. Keep everything together in one bag so it can be inspected quickly without being unpacked across several bags.
The medicine label, your name on the prescription and the original box are your evidence. This is why we advise against decanting or repackaging pens into unmarked containers.
Your prescriber is the right person to ask before you travel if anything has changed.
06 · Injection day abroad
What if your injection day falls on a travel day?
Mounjaro is injected under the skin once a week, on the same day each week, at any time of day, with or without food.1 That flexibility makes flying simpler. There is no best time of day, because Mounjaro works the same morning or evening. What matters is the same day each week.1
If the flight lands you across time zones, you do not need to recalculate a clock time. Choose a convenient time on your usual day, and keep going.
You have two licensed options if the day is genuinely awkward. You can change your weekly injection day if needed, as long as at least 3 days (72 hours) have passed since your last dose.1 Or, if you miss a dose, take it as soon as you can within 4 days (96 hours) of the scheduled time, then carry on with your usual day. If more than 4 days have passed, skip the missed dose entirely and take the next one on your normal day, and never take two doses within 3 days of each other.1
Do not try to split, stretch or spread doses to fit a trip. Altering doses outside the licence means unknown dosing accuracy and no safety data.1
07 · Eating and side effects
Side effects, food and long journeys
Mild nausea, altered appetite and tiredness in the first days after each injection are the commonest early effects and usually settle.1 If you are newer to treatment, many people choose a weekend morning so early side effects fall on days off.1 Try to avoid injecting immediately before a long journey, particularly after a dose increase.
On the trip itself, pack simple foods you tolerate well. Our guide on what to eat while taking Mounjaro covers practical choices. Small, regular meals are easier than long gaps when appetite is low.
If you notice a new symptom while away, speak to a prescriber or local healthcare professional. For severe, persistent stomach pain, pain in the upper right abdomen with fever or yellowing of the skin or eyes, or swelling of the face or throat with difficulty breathing, get medical help straight away. You can report suspected side effects through the Yellow Card scheme.19
08 · Travel insurance and stock
Travel insurance, running out and planning supply
Tell your travel insurer you take a prescription medicine, and ask how they want it recorded. Keep a record of the answer they give you.
Plan your supply so a pen does not run out abroad. Each KwikPen contains four weekly doses.1 Count the injection days that fall inside your trip, and order in good time for delivery before you leave. Repeat orders re-check suitability, so allow time. Everything is dispensed by our GPhC-registered pharmacy (9012878), supplied through official LillyDirect channels, and sent in temperature-controlled packaging with free next-day tracked delivery.
Do not buy pens abroad from unverified sources to fill a gap. If supply or packaging ever seems wrong, check the pharmacy on the GPhC register and contact the pharmacy before injecting.12 If you are building a long-term plan, see our weight loss clinic overview.
09 · Serious side effects
Serious side effects: when to get help straight away
Serious side effects are uncommon but need urgent attention. Seek immediate medical help for: severe, persistent stomach pain that may spread to your back, with or without vomiting (possible pancreatitis); pain in the upper right abdomen, fever or yellowing of skin/eyes (possible gallbladder problems); or signs of a severe allergic reaction such as swelling of the face or throat and difficulty breathing. If you take insulin or a sulfonylurea alongside Mounjaro, watch for low blood sugar (shakiness, sweating, confusion) — your prescriber may need to adjust those medicines.1
How ordering works
How ordering works at EverydayMeds
Three steps, with our pharmacy team alongside you.
Step 1: Online consultation — 5–10 minutes
Complete a confidential health questionnaire covering BMI, medical history and current medication. No payment is taken until you're approved.
Step 2: Prescriber review — usually same day
A UK registered prescriber checks your suitability against the licensed criteria (BMI ≥30, or ≥27 with a weight-related condition) and contraindications, and confirms your starting dose.
Step 3: Next-day tracked delivery
Dispensed by our GPhC-registered pharmacy in temperature-controlled packaging with needles and a sharps bin included. Orders approved by 3pm for next-day tracked delivery.
Prescription and dispatch follow clinical approval. Confirm current delivery options when ordering.
Afterwards you're not on your own: dose-change reviews are built in before each step up, our pharmacist team is available for side-effect questions, and repeat orders re-check suitability rather than auto-shipping.
