Can You Change the Time of Day You Take Mounjaro? (October 2026)

Yes, most people can move their Mounjaro injection to a different time of day on their usual injection day, because it is a once-weekly medicine rather than a timed daily tablet.1 Changing the day of the week is a different question: you can change your weekly injection day as long as at least 3 days (72 hours) have passed since your last dose.13 If your plan does not fit, ask your prescriber before improvising. Current as of October 2026.

A quick overview

What to know
before you start.

  • Moving your injection from morning to evening on your usual day is a routine, low-stakes change for most people on once-weekly Mounjaro.
  • Changing the day of the week is a separate decision. Check the patient leaflet or ask your prescriber before you move it.
  • Never bring a dose forward on your own. You can change your injection day only if at least 3 days (72 hours) have passed since your last dose.
  • Pick a time you can repeat every week. A steady routine matters more than whether it is breakfast or bedtime.
  • If you are unsure after a missed or mistimed dose, contact your prescriber or pharmacy rather than guessing.
In this guide

01 · The core answer

Can you change the time of day you take Mounjaro?

Yes, in most cases you can change the time of day you take Mounjaro, as long as you keep to your normal weekly injection day. Mounjaro is a once-weekly injectable medicine in a multi-dose KwikPen, so there is no clock-based dosing like a morning pill.1 Plenty of people inject in the morning one week and the evening the next when life gets in the way.

What matters is that the weekly rhythm stays intact. Your prescriber can confirm how this applies to you.113

Our related guides go deeper on each angle: changing the time you take Mounjaro, whether the time of day matters and whether any time of the day works.

02 · Two different questions

Changing the hour is not the same as changing the day

Changing the hour on your usual day is the smaller change. Changing the weekday alters the gap between two doses, and that is where the official guidance matters. A lot of the confusion online comes from people treating both as the same thing.

If you inject on a Sunday morning and want Sunday evening, you are staying within the same day of the weekly cycle. If you inject on a Wednesday and want a Tuesday, you are shortening the gap since your previous dose, so make sure at least 3 days (72 hours) have passed since your last dose. That is exactly the situation the leaflet addresses, so read it or ask before you act. Our guide to changing the day you take Mounjaro covers that side in more detail.

You are travelling across time zonesDepends on the shift.Tell your prescriber your plans and agree a schedule in advance.

03 · Your next step

What to do if your routine does not fit

If your current time is not working, start by deciding whether you want to change the hour or the weekday. Most people only need the hour, which is the simpler decision. Write down the time you will use for the next few weeks and set a recurring reminder on your phone.

If you need a different weekday, contact the prescribing team before your next injection rather than after it. Customers who order through our Mounjaro pen service have ongoing monthly reviews with the prescribing team, so this is a normal question to raise.

If you are weighing up the wider picture, our weight loss clinic page explains how treatment, diet and activity fit together. Mounjaro is used alongside a reduced-calorie diet and increased physical activity, and individual results vary.2

04 · Why weekly dosing helps

Why a once-weekly medicine is flexible on the hour

Mounjaro is the brand name for tirzepatide, a once-weekly injectable prescription medicine made by Eli Lilly, supplied in a pre-filled multi-dose pen.1 It is licensed in the UK for weight management in adults and for type 2 diabetes. The pen comes in six strengths from 2.5mg to 15mg.

The weekly schedule reflects how the medicine behaves in the body. Tirzepatide has a half-life of about five days, so after a final dose it takes roughly 4–5 weeks to clear the system — there is no way to speed this up, and nothing needs doing while it clears.1 That slow clearance is the reason a pen is used once a week, not once a day.

In practical terms, the medicine is not like a daily pill that you must take at a precise hour. Your prescriber can tell you what suits your own plan.

The medicine works by activating two natural gut-hormone receptors, GIP and GLP-1, which help regulate appetite and slow how quickly the stomach empties.1 Most people feel fuller sooner and less hungry between meals, which supports a reduced-calorie diet. The effect builds through steady weekly dosing, which is why consistency is the thing worth protecting.

05 · Choosing a time that sticks

How to choose an injection time you will keep

The right time to inject is the one you will remember every single week. There is no single hour that suits everyone, so think about your own routine rather than a rule you read online.

  • When am I least rushed? A calm moment makes it easier to follow the pen's instructions properly.
  • Is this time stable week to week? Shift workers and parents of young children often do better with a time tied to a fixed event, such as a weekly shop or a particular programme.
  • Do I want to be at home afterwards? Some people prefer to inject in the evening so any early adjustment to a new dose happens at home.
  • Will I see the reminder? A recurring phone alarm or calendar entry beats memory every time.

If you want a deeper look at this question, is there a better time of day to take Mounjaro compares the common choices, and these timing tips collect the practical advice in one place.

Tracking helps too. GLPTrackr is our free companion app for tracking a GLP-1 journey, available on iOS and Android, and it is a convenient place to log injection day and time so you can see your own pattern.

06 · Changing the injection day

What to know before you change the day

Changing the weekday is allowed in principle, but it should follow the product information and your prescriber's advice. You can change your weekly injection day if needed, as long as at least 3 days (72 hours) have passed since your last dose.13

Moving a dose later lengthens the gap since your previous injection. Moving a dose earlier shortens it. Because the medicine lingers in the body for a long time, shortening the gap is the direction that deserves caution, and it is the case where you should ask rather than guess.

If anything is unclear, message the prescribing team.

It also helps to avoid stacking changes. If you are moving to a new strength and a new weekday in the same month, it becomes harder to tell what caused any change in how you feel. Make one change at a time where you can, and tell your prescriber about both.

07 · Late, early or missed doses

What if you inject late, early or miss a dose?

If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you can within 4 days (96 hours) of the scheduled time, then carry on with your usual day. If more than 4 days have passed, skip the missed dose and take the next one on your normal day — never take two doses within 3 days of each other.

  • I took it a bit late. Take it as soon as you can within 4 days (96 hours) of the scheduled time. Then go back to your normal weekly day for the next injection unless your prescriber tells you otherwise.
  • I want to take it early. Do not bring a dose forward without checking. A shorter gap means less time for the previous dose to clear, and the half-life is long.
  • I took it on the wrong day by mistake. Tell the prescribing team. They can advise on resetting your schedule.
  • I am not sure when I last injected. Check any tracking app or note you keep and contact us if you still cannot tell. Do not inject to be on the safe side.

Support is available Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm, by email at support@everydaymeds.co.uk, through the account portal chat or by phone on 0333 207 0413.

If you notice a new symptom after a mistimed dose, tell your prescriber. Seek immediate medical help for severe, persistent stomach pain that may spread to your back, with or without vomiting (possible pancreatitis); pain in the upper right abdomen, fever or yellowing of skin/eyes (possible gallbladder problems); or signs of a severe allergic reaction such as swelling of the face or throat and difficulty breathing. You can also report a suspected side effect through the MHRA Yellow Card scheme.19

08 · Travel and shift work

Travel, time zones and shift work

If your schedule moves around, plan the injection in advance rather than adjusting on the day. A long-haul flight, a night shift or a holiday can all disturb a weekly routine. Because the schedule is weekly, the aim is to keep the rhythm as close to normal as your circumstances allow.

Tell your prescriber about the trip or the shift pattern ahead of time. They know your dose, your history and where you are in treatment, so they can suggest an arrangement that suits you. This is more reliable than copying a plan from a stranger on a forum who is on a different dose.

Storage matters when you travel. Store unopened pens in the fridge until first use, where they keep until the printed expiry date.13 The recommended fridge range is 2–8°C. Once in use, a pen can be kept out of the fridge at a temperature not above 30°C for up to 30 days after first use, and must then be thrown away. Do not use a pen that has been above 30°C or has been frozen.1 For any other storage question, such as how long an unopened pen can be out of the fridge, check the leaflet and ask the pharmacy rather than relying on a figure from elsewhere.

Our deliveries use free next-day tracked delivery in temperature-controlled, discreet packaging, with same-day dispatch when you order by 3pm. If you travel often, think about where you will be when your pen arrives. Needles, a sharps bin and injection guidance are included with every order.

09 · Food, drinks and results

Food, fizzy drinks and getting the most from treatment

The time you inject has no bearing on what you should eat, and most people's questions about food are really about the diet that goes with treatment. Mounjaro is used alongside a reduced-calorie diet and increased physical activity.2

People often ask about chocolate, fizzy drinks and similar foods. The medicine slows how quickly the stomach empties and helps you feel fuller sooner,1 so many people find that rich or very sugary foods sit differently than they used to. How you tolerate them is something to discuss with your prescriber or a dietitian, and to notice in your own body.

In the SURMOUNT-1 trial of 2,539 adults, people taking tirzepatide alongside diet and exercise lost on average 15% of their body weight on 5mg, 19.5% on 10mg and 20.9% on 15mg over 72 weeks, compared with 3.1% with lifestyle changes alone.2 These are trial averages — individual results vary, and treatment works alongside a reduced-calorie diet and increased physical activity, not instead of them.2

There is no "best" time of day — Mounjaro works the same morning or evening, with or without food. Consistency, dose, diet and activity are what matter. If you have another condition, such as gallstones, read our guide on taking Mounjaro with gallstones and speak to your prescriber.

10 · Getting Mounjaro safely

Getting Mounjaro safely if you are starting

Mounjaro is a prescription-only medicine, supplied only after an online consultation reviewed by a GPhC-registered prescriber.7 We are a GPhC-registered UK online pharmacy, registration 9012878, and you can check it on the GPhC register.12 Be wary of anyone offering to supply without a consultation or prescription, as counterfeit medicine alerts exist and genuine supply matters.

Ordering works in simple steps:

  • Free online consultation. A short health questionnaire, with no charge and no obligation.
  • Prescriber review. A GPhC-registered prescriber reviews it. Payment is taken when you place the order; if the prescriber decides the treatment is not suitable, the order is refunded automatically in full.
  • Dispensing and delivery. Our registered pharmacy dispenses it, and free next-day tracked delivery follows.

Our Mounjaro comes through official LillyDirect supply, direct from Eli Lilly's UK distribution, and all six doses are in stock. New customers save £40 on their first order with code FIRST40, and an automatic £25 reorder discount applies to every future order (code DOSE25).

NHS access is a separate route. Mounjaro is available on the NHS, but access is being phased in over several years, and the primary-care rollout began in June 2025 with the highest-need groups first.5 Many people who meet the licensed criteria choose regulated private treatment rather than waiting. Whichever route you take, ask about timing questions at your reviews. Repeat orders re-check suitability, with no auto-shipping.

Your questions, answered

Mounjaro price UK — frequently asked questions

Answers to common questions about Mounjaro prices, NHS access and ongoing treatment.

Ask our pharmacy team
Does it matter what time of day you take Mounjaro?
For most people the hour matters far less than keeping to a steady weekly routine. Mounjaro is a once-weekly injection, not a timed daily pill, so many people choose whichever time they can repeat reliably. If you are unsure whether a particular change suits you, check the patient leaflet or ask your prescriber.
Can I take Mounjaro a couple of days early?
Do not bring a dose forward on your own. Taking an injection early shortens the gap since your previous dose, and the medicine has a long half-life of about five days. You can change your weekly injection day only if at least 3 days (72 hours) have passed since your last dose, so check with your prescriber before you act.
What happens if you take your Mounjaro shot late?
If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you can within 4 days (96 hours) of the scheduled time, then carry on with your usual day. Do not inject extra to catch up. If more than 4 days have passed, skip the missed dose and take the next one on your normal day — never take two doses within 3 days of each other.
Can you switch Mounjaro days?
Yes, you can change your weekly injection day if needed, as long as at least 3 days (72 hours) have passed since your last dose. Moving to a later day lengthens the gap since your last dose, while moving earlier shortens it, so the earlier direction needs more care. Tell the prescribing team before your next injection so they can confirm a safe plan.
Can I take Mounjaro more often than once a week?
No. Mounjaro is licensed as a once-weekly injection. If your current schedule is not working, speak to your prescriber about adjusting your day or time within the licensed weekly pattern instead of shortening the gap yourself.
What foods should I avoid on Mounjaro?
No food is banned on Mounjaro. Prioritise protein, vegetables and fibre, and regular fluids; many people feel worse after very fatty, fried or very sugary food. Mounjaro is used alongside a reduced-calorie diet and increased physical activity, and it slows stomach emptying so you feel fuller sooner. Discuss food tolerance with your prescriber or a dietitian, and notice how your own body responds.
Can I eat chocolate or drink fizzy drinks on Mounjaro?
Because the medicine slows how quickly the stomach empties, some foods and drinks may feel different from before. Treat this as a question for your prescriber or a dietitian, and keep in mind that treatment works alongside a reduced-calorie diet.
How can I speed up weight loss on Mounjaro?
Trial averages do not predict your own result, and individual results vary. Injecting at a particular hour is not shown to change the outcome, so focus on consistent dosing, diet and activity.
