What to know
before you start.
-
Blurred vision is not listed as a side effect in the Mounjaro SmPC or patient leaflet.
-
New or sudden vision changes always deserve a check by an optician, GP or your prescriber, whatever the cause.
-
Sudden loss of vision, or vision change with severe pain or headache, needs medical help straight away, not a wait-and-see approach.
-
If you have diabetes, tell your prescriber and your diabetes team about any change in your sight.
-
You can report any suspected side effect through the MHRA Yellow Card scheme.
In this guide
01 · The honest answer
Does Mounjaro make your eyes blurry?
Mounjaro does not have blurred vision on its list of side effects.
02 · Your next step
What to do if your vision is blurry
Start by noting what the change actually is. Is it both eyes or one? Does it come and go, or stay constant? Did it begin suddenly or creep in gradually? Is there pain, redness, flashing lights, floaters or a headache? Those details help whoever examines you far more than a general description.
Then choose the route that fits how it feels:
- Sudden loss of vision, a curtain across your sight, severe eye pain, or vision change with a severe headache: get medical help straight away, through A&E or emergency services. Do not wait for a routine appointment.
- Gradual or mild blurring that is new: book an eye test with an optician. They can check whether your prescription has changed and look at the health of your eyes.
- Blurring alongside other symptoms you are unsure about: speak to your GP or the prescribing team who review your treatment.
If you take Mounjaro through us, our prescribing team offers side-effect support and ongoing monthly reviews, so you can raise a new symptom there. If you simply want to understand the medicine first, our weight loss clinic guide explains how treatment works day to day.
Please do not stop or change your dose on your own because of blurred vision. Tell your prescriber what is happening and let them advise on the treatment decision.

03 · What the product information says
What the official product information says
Mounjaro is the brand name for tirzepatide, a once-weekly injectable prescription medicine made by Eli Lilly. In the UK it is licensed for weight management in adults and for type 2 diabetes, and it comes as a pre-filled multi-dose pen in six strengths: 2.5mg, 5mg, 7.5mg, 10mg, 12.5mg and 15mg.1
The SmPC is written for healthcare professionals and the patient leaflet for people using the pen. Between them they list the effects the medicine is known to cause. Blurred vision does not appear in them as a side effect of Mounjaro.113 Reading the leaflet yourself is worthwhile, because it also tells you which symptoms should prompt you to contact a doctor.
If you notice a symptom that is not in the leaflet, that is exactly the kind of thing the MHRA Yellow Card scheme exists to capture. You can report a suspected side effect yourself, and you do not need to be certain the medicine caused it.19 Reports like these are how regulators spot patterns that individual trials miss.
04 · Other causes of blurry vision
Other things that can blur your vision
Blurred vision is common and has many causes that have nothing to do with any medicine.
Everyday possibilities include a change in your glasses or contact lens prescription, tired or dry eyes after long periods on screens, and eye infections or irritation. Migraine can disturb sight too. Some people notice that their eyes feel gritty or uncomfortable at the same time. Our related guides on Mounjaro and your eyes and bloodshot eyes cover the wider picture of eye comfort during treatment.
Some causes are more serious and need prompt attention. An optician can examine the front and back of the eye, and refer you onward if something needs a specialist. You can read more in our overview of whether Mounjaro can affect your eyes.
The point is simple: the cause of blurred vision can only be worked out by someone who looks at your eyes and takes your history. A symptom that begins around the time you start a new medicine is a reason to mention it, not a reason to conclude the medicine is responsible.
05 · If you have diabetes
If you have diabetes
If you have diabetes, any change in your sight should be reported to your diabetes team or GP and your prescriber. Eye health is a routine part of diabetes care, and changes in vision are taken seriously in that setting. Blurred vision is also one of the things people with diabetes are often asked to watch for.
Mounjaro is licensed in the UK for type 2 diabetes as well as for weight management.1 If you use other diabetes treatments, your prescriber needs to know every medicine you take, because doses of some, such as insulin or sulfonylureas, may need adjusting. Your clinicians can then look at the whole picture rather than one symptom at a time.
Your diabetes eye screening appointments and your optician are the right places to ask, and you should not delay them.
06 · Does it go away?
Does blurry vision go away?
Whether blurry vision goes away depends entirely on its cause. A tired-eyes episode or a prescription that needs updating is a very different matter from an eye condition needing treatment.
The same applies to blurry vision or vision loss while taking other GLP-1 medicines, such as semaglutide. Ask your prescriber or an eye specialist, who can look at your own results and history.
What does help in every case is acting early. Eye problems found sooner are generally easier to manage, and an examination also gives you a clear answer rather than weeks of worrying. Keep a short note of when the change began, any other symptoms and the medicines you take, and take it to your appointment.
07 · Home remedies and vitamins
Can you fix blurry vision naturally?
There is no drink, vitamin or home remedy to recommend for blurred vision, because the right response depends on the cause.
Resting your eyes from screens, and having a regular eye test, are low-risk habits that are worth keeping. Neither replaces being examined when your vision changes.
08 · Serious side effects
Serious side effects: when to get help straight away
Serious side effects are uncommon but need urgent attention. Seek immediate medical help for: severe, persistent stomach pain that may spread to your back, with or without vomiting (possible pancreatitis); pain in the upper right abdomen, fever or yellowing of skin/eyes (possible gallbladder problems); or signs of a severe allergic reaction such as swelling of the face or throat and difficulty breathing. If you take insulin or a sulfonylurea alongside Mounjaro, watch for low blood sugar (shakiness, sweating, confusion) — your prescriber may need to adjust those medicines.1
09 · Treatment and your review
Treatment, reviews and what to tell your prescriber
Mounjaro is a prescription-only medicine, supplied after a consultation reviewed by a GPhC-registered prescriber. It works alongside a reduced-calorie diet and increased physical activity, and individual results vary.
Because treatment is stepped up over time, your prescriber reviews you regularly. A new symptom is something to raise at any review, or sooner if it worries you. Mention when it started relative to a dose change, as that is useful context, but do not assume the dose is the cause.
If you are weighing up other aspects of how you feel on treatment, our guides on whether Mounjaro can make you fatigued or sad take the same careful approach.

How ordering works at EverydayMeds
Three steps, with our pharmacy team alongside you.
