Your Mounjaro price guide · October 2026

Can I Have Wine on Mounjaro? (October 2026)

There is no direct interaction between Mounjaro and alcohol, so wine is not banned, but moderation is the sensible rule. Drinking on a reduced appetite and an emptier stomach can hit harder than usual, and wine adds calories that work against a reduced-calorie plan. Ask your prescriber about your own situation, especially if you have side effects or other conditions. Current as of October 2026.

A quick overview

What to know
before you start.

  • Mounjaro slows stomach emptying and makes you feel fuller sooner, which is worth bearing in mind with any drink.
  • Wine adds calories, and treatment works alongside a reduced-calorie diet, not instead of it.
  • Report any new or worrying symptoms to your prescriber, and to the Yellow Card scheme if you suspect a side effect.
  • If you take other diabetes medicines, ask before drinking, because doses may need adjusting.
In this guide

01 · The honest answer

So, can you have wine on Mounjaro?

Many people ask this the week they start, and the honest answer is that it depends on you. Mounjaro is a once-weekly tirzepatide injection licensed in the UK for weight management and type 2 diabetes1. There is no direct interaction between Mounjaro and alcohol, but drinking on a reduced appetite and emptier stomach can hit harder than usual.

It activates the GIP and GLP-1 receptors, which help regulate appetite and slow how quickly the stomach empties1. Most people feel fuller sooner and less hungry between meals. That is the effect you are paying for, and it is worth thinking about before you pour a drink.

02 · Your decision

What to decide before you pour a glass

There are two practical questions. First, are you currently having side effects? If you feel unwell, a wine night is a poor test of how your body is coping. Second, does wine fit the plan you are following? Treatment is used alongside a reduced-calorie diet and increased physical activity1, and wine contributes calories without helping you feel satisfied.

If you are weighing up specific drinks, our guides on having a glass of wine and on drinking red wine go into more detail. If you are already a customer, your prescribing team can advise at your monthly review. If you are still deciding whether treatment is right for you, start with the Mounjaro pen and free online consultation.

03 · Stomach emptying

Why a slowed stomach matters with alcohol

Tirzepatide helps slow how quickly the stomach empties1. In practice, that means you may feel full on far less food, and a drink may sit differently than it used to.

What you can do is pay attention to your own response, especially in the first few weeks and after each dose increase. Side effects are most likely when starting treatment or moving up a dose, so a drink that was fine on 2.5mg may feel different at a higher strength. If something feels off, stop and tell your prescriber.

04 · Calories and goals

Wine, calories and weight-loss goals

Wine counts towards your intake, and trial results came from people combining tirzepatide with a reduced-calorie diet and exercise2.

Alcohol is often described as a source of liquid calories, so frequent drinking can work against the plan the medicine supports. A related question is whether wine suppresses appetite, which is worth reading before you assume it helps.

05 · Other medicines

If you take diabetes medicines too

If you take insulin or a sulfonylurea alongside Mounjaro, alcohol increases the risk of low blood sugar, and doses of those medicines may need adjusting13. That is a reason to speak to your prescriber before drinking, not a ban.

06 · When to get advice

New symptoms and reporting side effects

If you notice a new symptom after drinking on Mounjaro, speak to your prescriber rather than assuming it is normal. You can also report suspected side effects through the MHRA Yellow Card scheme19.

If you already have a prescription and want to check your plan, see our page for people who already have a prescription for Mounjaro. For wider support with weight management, visit our weight loss clinic.

Mounjaro (tirzepatide) is a prescription-only medicine, supplied only after an online consultation reviewed by a GPhC-registered prescriber. This page is information, not a substitute for medical advice.

07 · Serious side effects

Serious side effects: when to get help straight away

Serious side effects are uncommon but need urgent attention. Seek immediate medical help for: severe, persistent stomach pain that may spread to your back, with or without vomiting (possible pancreatitis); pain in the upper right abdomen, fever or yellowing of skin/eyes (possible gallbladder problems); or signs of a severe allergic reaction such as swelling of the face or throat and difficulty breathing. If you take insulin or a sulfonylurea alongside Mounjaro, watch for low blood sugar (shakiness, sweating, confusion) — your prescriber may need to adjust those medicines.1

Your questions, answered

Mounjaro price UK — frequently asked questions

Answers to common questions about Mounjaro prices, NHS access and ongoing treatment.

Ask our pharmacy team
Can you have wine on Mounjaro?
Mounjaro slows stomach emptying and works alongside a reduced-calorie diet, so wine deserves caution. Whether it suits you depends on your side effects, other medicines and goals. Ask your prescriber, and stop drinking and seek advice if you feel unwell afterwards.
How many drinks can I have on Mounjaro?
There is no set number of drinks; moderation is the sensible rule. Your prescriber can advise based on your health, other medicines and how you respond to treatment. Remember that every drink adds calories to a plan built around a reduced-calorie diet.
What should I avoid while taking Mounjaro?
Avoid using it without a prescription or buying from sellers offering to supply without a consultation. Tell your prescriber about other medicines, especially insulin or sulfonylureas, and report new symptoms. Mounjaro slows stomach emptying, which can reduce how well oral contraceptive pills are absorbed. The SmPC advises switching to a non-oral method, or adding a barrier method (such as condoms), for 4 weeks after starting Mounjaro and for 4 weeks after each dose increase.1
What to drink when on Mounjaro?
Water is the simple everyday choice, and unsweetened drinks fit a reduced-calorie diet better than sugary ones. If nausea or digestive side effects are troubling you, your prescribing team can offer side-effect support at your monthly review.
Does wine suppress appetite on Mounjaro?
Mounjaro itself helps you feel fuller sooner and less hungry between meals. Many people find their desire for alcohol drops on treatment.
What alcohol is best when losing weight?
All alcohol adds calories, and treatment works alongside a reduced-calorie diet and increased physical activity. If you choose to drink, keep it occasional and discuss it with your prescriber.
