Bruise When Injecting Mounjaro: What to Do (October 2026)

A small bruise where you injected Mounjaro is usually a minor local mark, not a sign the dose failed. Rotate your site with every dose and inject under the skin, as the pen's instructions explain. A bruise that is large, painful, spreading or not fading, or that comes with other symptoms, should be raised with your prescriber. Current as of October 2026.

A quick overview

What to know
before you start.

  • A small bruise at the injection site is a local skin mark, and the pen is designed for injection under the skin.
  • Rotate between the stomach, front of the thigh and back of the upper arm, changing site with every dose.
  • Use the pen exactly as its instructions say; do not improvise technique.
  • Contact your prescriber about a large, painful, lumpy or slow-healing bruise, or any new symptom.
  • You can report suspected side effects through the Yellow Card scheme.
In this guide

01 · The core answer

What to do if you bruise after a Mounjaro injection

Keep going with your usual routine and check the bruise over the following days. Mounjaro is injected under the skin (subcutaneously) once a week, and a bruise after a Mounjaro injection is worth noticing but is usually minor.1

Do not rub the area hard and do not change your dose or timing because of a bruise. Taking smaller or extra doses outside the licence is not supported: it means unknown dosing accuracy and no safety data.1

02 · Decision

Is this a problem I should act on?

Most small marks are not a reason to stop treatment. Ask for advice if the bruise is large, painful, hard, spreading, or keeps appearing at every injection. Our prescribing team offers side-effect support as part of ongoing monthly reviews. If you are not yet a patient, you can start with a free consultation for the Mounjaro pen, or read more at our weight loss clinic.

03 · Where to inject

Where to inject and how to rotate

Licensed injection sites are the stomach area (at least 5cm from the belly button), the front of the thigh, or the back of the upper arm if someone else gives the injection. Rotate the site with each dose.13

Rotating means you avoid injecting into an area that is still marked. If a spot looks bruised or tender, choose a different licensed site next time.

04 · Technique tips

Technique that may help

The most reliable advice is to follow the instructions that come with your KwikPen. Needles, a sharps bin and injection guidance are included with every order. Whether to pinch the skin is a common question, and we cover it in pinching your stomach when injecting and whether you need to pinch the skin.

05 · Bruise or lump?

Bruise, lump or something else

A flat colour change is different from a firm swelling. If you notice a hard area, read about a lump after injecting Mounjaro. For a mark that looks like a typical bruise from Mounjaro, check how it changes over the following days, and see our Mounjaro bruise guide.

If a symptom is new or unusual, speak to your prescriber. You can also report suspected side effects through the Yellow Card scheme.19

06 · Serious side effects

Serious side effects: when to get help straight away

Serious side effects are uncommon but need urgent attention. Seek immediate medical help for: severe, persistent stomach pain that may spread to your back, with or without vomiting (possible pancreatitis); pain in the upper right abdomen, fever or yellowing of skin/eyes (possible gallbladder problems); or signs of a severe allergic reaction such as swelling of the face or throat and difficulty breathing. If you take insulin or a sulfonylurea alongside Mounjaro, watch for low blood sugar (shakiness, sweating, confusion) — your prescriber may need to adjust those medicines.1

How ordering works

How ordering works at EverydayMeds

Three steps, with our pharmacy team alongside you.

  1. EverydayMeds online consultation on a mobile phone

    Step 1: Online consultation — 5–10 minutes

Complete a confidential health questionnaire covering BMI, medical history and current medication. No payment is taken until you're approved.

  2. A clinician ready to review an online consultation

Step 2: Prescriber review — usually same day

A UK registered prescriber checks your suitability against the licensed criteria (BMI ≥30, or ≥27 with a weight-related condition) and contraindications, and confirms your starting dose.

  3. An EverydayMeds delivery box

    Step 3: Next-day tracked delivery

Dispensed by our GPhC-registered pharmacy in temperature-controlled packaging with needles and a sharps bin included. Orders approved by 3pm for next-day tracked delivery.

Your questions, answered

Mounjaro price UK — frequently asked questions

Answers to common questions about Mounjaro prices, NHS access and ongoing treatment.

Ask our pharmacy team
Is it normal for my injection site to bruise?
A small bruise at an injection site is a common local reaction and usually not serious. Rotate between licensed sites, follow the pen's instructions, and mention it at your next review. Contact your prescriber if the bruise is large, painful, hard, spreading or not fading, or if you feel unwell.
Is it normal to experience bruising after a GLP-1 injection?
Occasional small bruises can follow any injection under the skin, including weekly Mounjaro. They do not by themselves mean the dose failed. If bruising happens often or looks severe, speak to your prescriber, who can review your technique and history. You can also report concerns through the Yellow Card scheme.
Where's the best spot to inject Mounjaro?
There is no single best spot. Licensed sites are the stomach area (at least 5cm from the belly button), the front of the thigh, or the back of the upper arm if someone else gives the injection. Rotate the site with each dose, and avoid any spot that is still marked or tender.
What happens if you accidentally inject Mounjaro into muscle?
Mounjaro is licensed for injection under the skin, so an injection that you think went deeper is worth mentioning. Do not take an extra dose to compensate. Contact your prescriber or pharmacist, who can advise on your next scheduled dose and on the pen's instructions.
Should you pinch your skin when injecting Mounjaro?
Follow the instructions supplied with your KwikPen, as they set out how to hold the pen and skin. If you are unsure of your technique, ask your prescriber or pharmacist to talk it through.
Is it better to inject Mounjaro in the morning or evening?
There is no best time of day. Mounjaro works the same morning or evening, with or without food. What matters is the same day each week, so pick a day and time you will remember and stick to it.
Can I drink alcohol or do I need to avoid foods on Mounjaro?
There is no direct interaction between Mounjaro and alcohol, but drinking on a reduced appetite and an emptier stomach can hit harder than usual, and no food is banned. Mounjaro is used alongside a reduced-calorie diet and increased physical activity. Ask your prescriber for advice that fits your health, especially if you have side effects such as nausea.
