Belly Fat Loss Injections: What Actually Works in the UK (October 2026)
Belly fat loss injections that are licensed in the UK, such as Mounjaro (tirzepatide), work on overall weight rather than on the belly alone, so fat may not come off your stomach first. Mounjaro is licensed for weight management in adults and is used alongside a reduced-calorie diet and more activity1. Your first 2.5mg pen costs £129.99 with code FIRST40 (standard price £169.99). 01 · The core answer
Do belly fat loss injections work?
Weight loss injections can reduce how much you weigh overall, and for many people that includes the waistline, but no licensed injection can be aimed at your stomach. Mounjaro activates the GIP and GLP-1 gut-hormone receptors, which help regulate appetite, slow how quickly the stomach empties and improve the way the body responds to insulin1. In practice, most people feel fuller sooner and less hungry between meals, which supports a reduced-calorie diet.
That is a whole-body effect. Where your body gives up fat first depends on genetics, sex, age and hormones. If a website or seller promises dramatic weight-loss claims from a single injection site, treat it with suspicion.
The injection is given under the skin, and the stomach area is one licensed injection site. Injecting there does not mean the medicine acts only on the fat beneath it. The site is a matter of convenience and rotation, not targeting.
02 · Know the difference
Weight loss injections vs fat-dissolving injections
Weight-management injections are prescription medicines taken weekly, while fat-dissolving injections are cosmetic treatments aimed at a small area. They should not be confused.
| Question | Weight-management injection (Mounjaro) | Fat-dissolving injection |
|---|---|---|
| What it is | A once-weekly prescription medicine, licensed in the UK for weight management in adults | A cosmetic procedure; we do not supply it |
| Where it acts | Across the body, through appetite and stomach emptying | Marketed as acting on a small treated area |
| How you get it | After a consultation reviewed by a GPhC-registered prescriber | Speak to a regulated clinician about suitability and risks |
| Pace | Gradual, judged over months | Ask the practitioner |
If you are considering a fat-dissolving treatment, ask the practitioner for their registration, the evidence behind the product and the risks.
03 · Your next step
Is this relevant to you, and what next?
A weight-management injection is relevant if you want to lose weight overall and are eligible under the licence, not if you only want to flatten one area. Mounjaro is used alongside a reduced-calorie diet and increased physical activity, and individual results vary.
If that fits, the next step is a free online consultation. Payment is taken when you place the order; if the prescriber decides the treatment is not suitable, the order is refunded automatically in full. You can see current strengths and the Mounjaro pen prices and consultation on the product page, or compare options on our Mounjaro fat loss injections price guide. For the wider picture, our weight loss clinic page explains how treatment is run.
04 · Mounjaro and your waistline
Will I lose belly fat on Mounjaro?
Mounjaro is the brand name for tirzepatide, a once-weekly injectable made by Eli Lilly, licensed in the UK for weight management in adults and for type 2 diabetes1.
Weight loss figures from trials describe the average change in body weight, not a change in one body area, and trial averages do not predict your own result. For a deeper look at this question, read our guide to Mounjaro and belly fat.
A sensible approach is to track several things: your weight trend, how clothes fit and how you feel. A tape measure can be useful alongside the scales, but it is not a medical test and should not be over-read from week to week.
05 · Realistic pace
How fast will it work?
Weight loss on Mounjaro is gradual by design, so there is no reliable way to lose belly fat in days. The first weeks on 2.5mg are an adjustment phase and losses are usually modest; most measurable progress builds from 5mg onward, month by month. Trials measured results at 72 weeks, so think in months, not days, and judge progress by trend, not individual weigh-ins.
Early loss includes water weight, so the trend over weeks matters more than any single weigh-in. Some people notice appetite change and early loss in week one, others feel little until a higher dose, and both are normal.
Treatment response is reviewed by your prescriber: if you have lost less than 5% of your starting weight after 6 months on the highest dose you can tolerate, your prescriber will discuss whether continuing or stopping is right for you.
Anything that claims to shift belly fat very quickly, whether an injection, a drink or a supplement, is promising something the licensed medicine itself does not. Our article on belly fat drinks and what the UK evidence says makes the same point for drinks.
06 · Dose ladder
How the dose builds up
Everyone starts Mounjaro on 2.5mg once a week, and this starting dose is about letting your body adjust, not about weight loss itself. After at least 4 weeks the dose increases to 5mg, and can then step up by 2.5mg at a minimum of 4-week intervals (7.5mg, 10mg, 12.5mg) up to a maximum of 15mg weekly, depending on how you respond and tolerate it.
Many people settle at a maintenance dose of 5mg, 10mg or 15mg. Higher is not automatically better, and your prescriber will guide the right pace. If you step up after 4 weeks on each dose, your first four pens (2.5mg to 10mg) cost £959.96 at standard prices; a new customer's first order is £40 less and every later order £25 less.
07 · Using the pen
Where and how you inject
Mounjaro is injected under the skin once a week, on the same day each week, at any time of day, with or without food1. Licensed injection sites are the stomach area (at least 5cm from the belly button), the front of the thigh, or the back of the upper arm if someone else gives the injection. Rotate the site with each dose. Each KwikPen contains four weekly doses.
There is no "best" time of day. Pick a day and time you will remember; many people choose a weekend morning so early side effects fall on days off. You can change your weekly injection day if needed, as long as at least 3 days (72 hours) have passed since your last dose.
If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you can within 4 days (96 hours) of the scheduled time, then carry on with your usual day. If more than 4 days have passed, skip the missed dose entirely and take the next one on your normal day. Never take two doses within 3 days of each other.
Keep pens in a fridge at 2–8°C and never freeze them. Once in use, a pen can be kept out of the fridge not above 30°C for up to 30 days, after which it should be discarded13. We include needles, a sharps bin and injection guidance with every order.
08 · Early side effects
What the first weeks feel like
Mild nausea, altered appetite and tiredness in the first days after each injection are the commonest early effects and usually settle. If anything new or worrying appears, speak to your prescriber and report it through the Yellow Card scheme. Serious side effects are uncommon but need urgent attention. Seek immediate medical help for: severe, persistent stomach pain that may spread to your back, with or without vomiting (possible pancreatitis); pain in the upper right abdomen, fever or yellowing of skin/eyes (possible gallbladder problems); or signs of a severe allergic reaction such as swelling of the face or throat and difficulty breathing.
A symptom that is not on the Mounjaro patient leaflet's list is not a listed side effect, but tell your prescriber about any new or lasting symptom. Discuss it with the prescriber, who can review your treatment properly. Our prescribing team offers side-effect support and monthly reviews as part of ongoing care.
09 · NHS or private
NHS or private access
Mounjaro is available on the NHS, but access is being phased in over several years. NICE recommends it for adults with a BMI of at least 35 plus at least one weight-related condition, and the NHS primary-care rollout began in June 2025 with the highest-need groups first (initially BMI 40+ with four or more qualifying conditions)46. Full rollout is expected to take years, which is why many people who meet the licensed criteria choose regulated private treatment rather than waiting.
Private treatment is still a prescription pathway. Our consultation is free, a GPhC-registered prescriber reviews it, and unsuitable orders are refunded automatically. We dispense genuine KwikPens through official LillyDirect supply, with free next-day tracked delivery, and the price shown is the price paid.
10 · Spotting unsafe sellers
Avoiding unsafe sellers and quick fixes
Be wary of anyone offering to supply a weight-loss injection without a consultation or prescription. Counterfeit weight-loss pens are a known concern, and the MHRA publishes counterfeit medicine alerts and runs the Yellow Card scheme7. You can check any UK pharmacy on the GPhC register; ours is registration 9012878.
Treat anything that promises specific results, or relies on dramatic weight-loss claims, as a warning sign. Low-cost supplements sold as a natural alternative come with no clinical oversight and no licensed evidence for belly fat.
Movement helps alongside any treatment. Our guide to speed walking for belly fat covers a simple, realistic habit, and our pages on belly shots for weight loss and the newer fat loss injections explain related options.
