What Mounjaro costs per month in the UK

The monthly cost depends on your dose, because each of the six Mounjaro pen strengths is priced separately. At EverydayMeds the standard price of a 2.5mg pen is £169.99, 5mg is £189.99, 7.5mg is £244.99, 10mg is £274.99, 12.5mg is £289.99 and 15mg is £299.99. Each pen holds four weekly doses, so those are four-week prices. All six doses are in stock.

In weekly terms, that works out at £42.50 a week at 2.5mg, £47.50 at 5mg, £61.25 at 7.5mg, £68.75 at 10mg, £72.50 at 12.5mg and £75.00 at 15mg.

What the monthly price includes

The price shown is the price paid. The consultation is free, and there are no hidden fees. The medicine is genuine Mounjaro supplied through official LillyDirect supply, direct from Eli Lilly's UK distribution. Delivery is free, next-day, tracked and in temperature-controlled packaging, with Saturday delivery at £14.99. Orders placed by 3pm are dispatched the same day.

Needles, a sharps bin and injection guidance come with every order. Ongoing monthly reviews, dose-titration support and side-effect support from the prescribing team are part of the service. You can pay by Visa or Mastercard, use Klarna or pay-monthly options, and there are no subscriptions. Repeat orders re-check your suitability, and nothing ships automatically.

Planning the monthly cost, not just the first pen

The first pen is rarely the one you stay on. Most people start at 2.5mg and move up, so the monthly cost changes as you do. Budget for the dose you are likely to settle on, which your prescriber decides with you, rather than the starting price.

04 · First year cost

What a first year of Mounjaro costs

Your first 2.5mg pen costs £129.99 with code FIRST40 (standard price £169.99). If you are switching to us at 15mg, your first order is £259.99. Both are first-order prices, not the usual monthly price.

A first year costs £2,399.88 if you stay on 5mg after your 2.5mg starting pen, up to £3,279.88 if you step up through every dose to 15mg, at standard prices before discounts. A year here means 13 pens. A new customer's first order is £40 less, and every later order is £25 less.

If you step up after 4 weeks on each of 2.5mg, 5mg, 7.5mg and 10mg, your first four pens cost £879.96 at standard prices. This is a useful number if you want to know what it costs just to get started.

Not everyone ends up at 5mg or 15mg. If you settle at 7.5mg, 10mg or 12.5mg, your monthly cost is that dose's price: £244.99, £274.99 or £289.99 respectively, before the reorder discount. Work out a figure for your own dose from the monthly price.

Costs also depend on how long you stay on treatment, which is a decision for you and your prescriber. Think in months, not days. 05 · Price rise explained

Why Mounjaro prices went up

Mounjaro prices rose because Eli Lilly raised its UK list price. Lilly announced the increase on 14 August 2025, and it took effect on 1 September 2025.¹⁰ The change was a one-off list-price step that has already happened, and it was larger at higher doses.

List price is not the same as what you pay. Pharmacies buy at list price less confidential discounts, and the discounts differ between providers. That is why the same pen costs different amounts in different places. It also explains the gap shown in our index: across the UK pharmacies we track, the same dose can differ by between £20 and £36.03, checked 24 October 2026.

Because the rise hit higher doses hardest, the step from 2.5mg to 15mg is now steeper than it used to be. Our standard prices run from £169.99 at 2.5mg to £299.99 at 15mg, with the full ladder in between.

What this means for you

If you were quoted a price from before the change, expect a different figure now. If you are comparing providers, compare the same dose, from the same date, with the same inclusions. A cheap-looking starter price that rises sharply at 5mg and 7.5mg can cost more over a first year than a provider whose prices are more even.

If you are mid-treatment, the reorder discount of £25 applies to every future order, whatever dose you are on.

Finally, be wary of anyone who says they can sell you Mounjaro at a fraction of list price. Pharmacies do get confidential discounts, but a price that is dramatically lower than every verifiable provider usually means something is wrong with the supply.

06 · NHS versus private

NHS or private: what each route costs you

Mounjaro is available on the NHS, but access is being phased in over several years. NICE recommends it for adults with a BMI of at least 35 plus at least one weight-related condition. The NHS primary-care rollout began in June 2025 with the highest-need groups first, initially BMI 40+ with four or more qualifying conditions.⁴⁶ Full rollout is expected to take years, which is why many people who meet the licensed criteria choose regulated private treatment rather than waiting.

On the NHS, you would pay the standard prescription charge, which is £9.90 per item in England. That is a big difference from private prices, but it only applies if you are offered treatment, and offers follow the phased priority groups. Private treatment suits people who do not yet fall into an NHS group, or who do not want to wait. The cost is the monthly price for your dose, and you pay it for as long as you stay on treatment. Our guide to private Mounjaro costs covers that route.

Can I get Mounjaro from my GP?

Possibly, if you fall within the groups the NHS is currently prioritising. Ask your GP practice whether you are eligible and how the local service works. If you are not yet eligible, you can still ask for a record of your BMI and weight-related conditions, which a private prescriber will also ask about. Using one route does not rule out the other later.

Choosing between them

A fair way to decide is to ask three questions. Do you meet the NHS criteria now? How long would you be prepared to wait? What can you sustainably pay each month?

07 · What you are paying for

What you are paying for: the medicine and the pen

Mounjaro is the brand name for tirzepatide, a once-weekly injectable prescription medicine made by Eli Lilly. In the UK it is licensed for weight management in adults and for type 2 diabetes. It comes as a pre-filled multi-dose pen (KwikPen) in six strengths: 2.5mg, 5mg, 7.5mg, 10mg, 12.5mg and 15mg.

Tirzepatide is the first treatment of its kind to activate two natural gut-hormone receptors at once: GIP and GLP-1. Together these help regulate appetite, slow how quickly the stomach empties, and improve the way the body responds to insulin. Most people feel fuller sooner and less hungry between meals, which supports a reduced-calorie diet. This dual action distinguishes Mounjaro from single-action GLP-1 medicines such as semaglutide.¹¹

Why you may not need the top dose

Not everyone ends up at 15mg. Your prescriber reviews your progress and tolerance and decides with you whether to stay at a dose or step up. Your monthly cost follows the dose you are on.

How long the medicine stays in your system

Tirzepatide has a half-life of about five days, so after a final dose it takes roughly 4–5 weeks to clear the system. There is no way to speed this up, and nothing needs doing while it clears.¹

Comparing with other medicines

If you are comparing with Wegovy, a first Wegovy pen costs £99.99 at the first-order price. Wegovy is a single-action GLP-1 medicine with a dose ladder of 0.25mg, 0.5mg, 1mg, 1.7mg and 2.4mg, stepping up after 4 weeks on each of the first four doses, so the 2.4mg maintenance dose starts from week 17. Liraglutide (Saxenda, and products such as Erly) is a daily injection at 6mg per millilitre, unlike the once-weekly pens. See our weight loss treatments overview. Remember that Mounjaro is prescription-only and is supplied only after an online consultation reviewed by a GPhC-registered prescriber. It is used alongside a reduced-calorie diet and increased physical activity.

08 · Value for money

What results to expect for the money

The honest answer is that results are gradual and individual. In the SURMOUNT-1 trial of 2,539 adults, people taking tirzepatide alongside diet and exercise lost on average 15% of their body weight on 5mg, 19.5% on 10mg and 20.9% on 15mg over 72 weeks, compared with 3.1% with lifestyle changes alone.² These are trial averages. Individual results vary, and treatment works alongside a reduced-calorie diet and increased physical activity, not instead of them.

To make that concrete, for someone starting at 100 kg, 20.9% is about 21 kg. Your own result may be higher or lower, and the average does not predict it. At 72 weeks, 85% of participants on 5mg, 89% on 10mg and 91% on 15mg had lost at least 5% of their body weight. Half of participants on 10mg and 57% on 15mg lost at least 20% of their body weight.²

What the first three months look like

Three months in, most people are still on the lower rungs of the dose ladder, so losses at this stage are modest compared with the headline figures. In SURMOUNT-1, average weight loss built month by month, with the full 15–21% averages measured at 72 weeks, not 12. A sensible 3-month expectation on a standard titration is mid single digits as a percentage of body weight, with wide individual variation. Slower early progress does not predict failure, as the dose you respond to may still be ahead of you.²

The first weeks on 2.5mg are an adjustment phase. Some people notice appetite change and early loss in week one, while others feel little until a higher dose, and both are normal. Mild nausea, altered appetite and tiredness in the first days after each injection are the commonest early effects and usually settle.⁵ Serious side effects are uncommon but need urgent attention. Seek immediate medical help for: severe, persistent stomach pain that may spread to your back, with or without vomiting (possible pancreatitis); pain in the upper right abdomen, fever or yellowing of skin/eyes (possible gallbladder problems); or signs of a severe allergic reaction such as swelling of the face or throat and difficulty breathing. If you take insulin or a sulfonylurea alongside Mounjaro, watch for low blood sugar (shakiness, sweating, confusion) — your prescriber may need to adjust those medicines.

Why this matters for cost

Weight loss on Mounjaro is gradual by design, and most measurable progress builds from 5mg onward. That means the months you spend on the starter pen are not where most of the effect arrives, so judge value over several months, not one pen. Your prescriber reviews response: if you have lost less than 5% of your starting weight after 6 months on the highest dose you can tolerate, they will discuss whether continuing or stopping is right for you.⁴

Plateaus of a few weeks are normal as the body adapts to a lower weight. Within the licence, review food intake honestly, protect protein and activity, check sleep and alcohol, and ask your prescriber whether a dose step-up is appropriate if you are not yet at maximum. A plateau is not a reason to double doses or add unlicensed products.

In trials, weight loss on tirzepatide came with average improvements in waist size, blood pressure, cholesterol and blood-sugar measures, and most participants with prediabetes returned to normal blood-sugar levels. These are trial-average secondary outcomes, not promises.²

09 · Cheap prices and safety

Finding a low price without risking fakes

The safest low price is one from a pharmacy you can verify, not the lowest price you can find. The MHRA has seized thousands of fake weight-loss pens in the UK and has issued alerts after falsified Mounjaro pens were identified. Fake pens have caused hospitalisations, and some contained insulin rather than tirzepatide.⁷

Only buy from a pharmacy you can verify on the GPhC register, never from social media, beauty salons or unverified websites.¹² Genuine treatment always involves a prescription and a clinical consultation. Anyone offering to supply without a consultation or prescription is not offering genuine treatment, however attractive the price.

How to check a pen

Genuine UK stock is supplied through Lilly's official distribution to licensed pharmacies, and every pen carries a batch number and expiry date that can be checked. A genuine pen comes from a registered pharmacy, arrives cold-chain packaged, and the solution inside is clear and colourless. Do not use a pen that has been frozen, looks cloudy or discoloured, has particles in it, is past its expiry, or has been above 30°C or out of the fridge for more than 30 days in use.¹³ If supply or packaging ever seems wrong, check the pharmacy on the register and contact the pharmacy before injecting.

Who can get Mounjaro and how ordering works

Mounjaro is licensed for weight management in adults with a BMI of 30 or above, or a BMI between 27 and 30 with at least one weight-related condition. Examples include high blood pressure, high cholesterol, obstructive sleep apnoea, cardiovascular disease, prediabetes or type 2 diabetes. It must be used alongside a reduced-calorie diet and increased physical activity. A prescriber will assess your BMI, medical history and current medicines before deciding whether it is suitable for you.¹

That assessment is the reason the price you pay covers more than a pen. A prescriber, not a scoring script, decides whether treatment is right for you. If your order is unsuitable, it is refunded automatically in full.

Store unopened pens in the fridge until first use, and they keep until the printed expiry date. Once in use, a KwikPen can be kept out of the fridge at a temperature not above 30°C for up to 30 days, and must then be thrown away.
