Will Mounjaro get cheaper in 2026?

No general fall in Mounjaro prices has been announced. The most recent list-price change in our records is the rise Eli Lilly made effective 1 September 2025, which took list prices from £92–£122 per month to £133–£330 per month depending on dose.¹⁰

That list price is what pharmacies are charged before their own confidential discounts, so what you pay at the till varies by provider. This is why a pen at one pharmacy can cost noticeably more than the same dose elsewhere. Across the UK pharmacies we track, the smallest gap between providers for the same dose is £20 and the largest is £36.03.

If you are asking when prices will come down, the realistic answer is that you should budget for today's prices and look for savings you can use now.

What Mounjaro costs with us today

A Mounjaro pen lasts four weeks, and the standard price rises with the dose. The 2.5mg starter pen is £169.99 (£42.50 per week), and the 5mg pen is £189.99 (£47.50 per week). What a first year of Mounjaro adds up to

The total depends on the dose you settle on, not on a single monthly figure. The table shows standard prices before any discount. A new customer's first order is £40 less, and every later order is £25 less.

In short, a first year costs £2,399.88 if you settle at 5mg, up to £3,279.88 at 15mg. Your prescriber decides your dose and the pace of each step; doses are held for at least 4 weeks, depending on how you respond.

Why the price went up in September 2025

Eli Lilly announced on 14 August 2025 that it would increase the UK list price of Mounjaro, effective 1 September 2025. List prices moved from £92–£122 per month to £133–£330 per month depending on dose. That is an increase of up to 170% on the highest dose.¹⁰

This is the list price that Lilly charges, and pharmacies set their own sell prices around it. Confidential discounts mean pharmacy prices are not identical, which is why the provider-to-provider gap exists.

Many people ask whether this was a one-off. The most recent list-price change is this rise, so the useful question for your budget is what you pay now and what you can reduce. 07 · What affects the price

What affects what you pay

Three things set your monthly cost: the dose, the provider and any discounts.

The provider matters because pharmacy sell prices vary because of confidential discounts. Across the UK pharmacies we track, the gap between providers for the same dose runs from £20 to £36.03. The index was last checked 25 October 2026, so use that date when you compare.

Finally, discounts matter. Your first order with us is £40 off with code FIRST40, and every later order is £25 off the standard price. We do not add fees: the consultation is free and the price shown is the price paid.

Do not choose a provider on price alone. A low price from a seller you cannot verify is a safety risk, not a saving. Check the pharmacy on the GPhC register before you pay anything. Ours is registration 9012878.¹²

08 · Other weight loss medicines

What about other weight loss medicines?

Other prescription weight loss medicines exist, and their prices move independently of Mounjaro's. Wegovy (semaglutide) is a once-weekly injection with a dose ladder of 0.25mg, 0.5mg, 1mg, 1.7mg and 2.4mg, stepping up after at least 4 weeks to the 2.4mg maintenance dose from week 17.¹⁸ Liraglutide (Saxenda, and products such as Erly) is a daily injection supplied at 6mg per millilitre.

Mounjaro differs from single-action GLP-1 medicines because tirzepatide activates two gut-hormone receptors, GIP and GLP-1, rather than one.¹

09 · The NHS route

Is the NHS a cheaper route?

Mounjaro is available on the NHS, but access is being phased in over several years. NICE recommends it for adults with a BMI of at least 35 plus at least one weight-related condition. The NHS primary-care rollout began in June 2025 with the highest-need groups first, initially BMI 40+ with four or more qualifying conditions.⁴⁶

Full rollout is expected to take years, which is why many people who meet the licensed criteria choose regulated private treatment rather than waiting. If you may qualify for NHS treatment, ask your GP. If you do not qualify yet, private treatment is a legitimate route as long as it goes through a prescriber.

NHS prescriptions in England carry a standard charge of £9.90 per item for those who pay, but eligibility for weight management treatment is set by NHS criteria, not by willingness to pay. For Wegovy, NHS access runs through specialist weight-management services; ask your GP.

10 · Who can have it

Who Mounjaro is licensed for

Mounjaro is licensed for weight management in adults with a BMI of 30 or above, or a BMI between 27 and 30 with at least one weight-related condition. Examples include high blood pressure, high cholesterol, obstructive sleep apnoea, cardiovascular disease, prediabetes or type 2 diabetes. It must be used alongside a reduced-calorie diet and increased physical activity.¹

A prescriber will assess your BMI, medical history and current medicines before deciding whether it is suitable. This matters for cost as well as safety: there is no point paying for a medicine you are not suitable for, and unsuitable orders with us are refunded automatically.

In the SURMOUNT-1 trial of 2,539 adults, people taking tirzepatide alongside diet and exercise lost on average 15% of body weight on 5mg, 19.5% on 10mg and 20.9% on 15mg over 72 weeks, compared with 3.1% with lifestyle changes alone. These are trial averages, individual results vary, and trial averages do not predict your own result.² The prescriber decides which dose suits you.

11 · Avoid fake cheap pens

Why a very low price should worry you

A price far below what verified pharmacies charge is a warning sign. The MHRA has seized thousands of fake weight-loss pens in the UK and has issued alerts after falsified Mounjaro pens were identified. Fake pens have caused hospitalisations, and some contained insulin rather than tirzepatide.⁷

Only buy from a pharmacy you can verify on the GPhC register, never from social media, beauty salons or unverified websites. Genuine treatment always involves a prescription and a clinical consultation, so any seller offering to supply without a consultation or prescription is not legitimate.¹²

A genuine UK pen comes from a registered pharmacy with a batch number and expiry date, arrives cold-chain packaged, and the solution inside is clear and colourless. Do not use a pen that has been frozen, looks cloudy or discoloured, has particles in it, is past its expiry, has been above 30°C, or has been out of the fridge for more than 30 days in use. If anything about supply or packaging seems wrong, check the pharmacy on the GPhC register and contact it before injecting.¹³

12 · What to do now

What should you do if the price affects you?

Start by knowing your real monthly cost, then act on the parts you control. Work out what your dose adds up to, and compare providers on the same dose and pack.

Next, speak to your prescriber if the cost is becoming hard to sustain. Do not stop abruptly or skip weeks to make a pen last; talk to your clinical team first.

Keep pens stored properly so none is wasted. Store them in a fridge at 2–8°C and never freeze them. Once in use, a pen can be kept out of the fridge at a temperature not above 30°C for up to 30 days after first use, and must then be thrown away. Keep the cap on to protect it from light.¹
