Your Mounjaro price guide · October 2026

Why Won't My GP Prescribe Mounjaro? (October 2026)

Your GP most likely won't prescribe Mounjaro because NHS access is being phased in over several years, highest-need groups first, starting with BMI 40+ and four or more qualifying conditions.6 Missing that stage doesn't mean you're unsuitable. A private prescriber can assess you against the licensed criteria instead. Current as of October 2026.

A quick overview

What to know
before you start.

  • Mounjaro is available on the NHS, but access is phased over several years and starts with the highest-need groups.
  • NICE recommends it for a BMI of at least 35 plus a weight-related condition; the rollout began in June 2025 with BMI 40+ and four or more conditions.
  • A GP refusal usually reflects local rollout stage and funding, not a judgement on whether you could benefit.
  • The licence is wider than NHS criteria: BMI 30+, or 27–30 with a weight-related condition.
  • A private route is open to anyone who meets the licensed criteria, after a free consultation.
In this guide

01 · The reasons

The main reasons your GP says no

The first reason is the rollout stage. Mounjaro is available on the NHS, but access is being phased in over several years. NICE recommends it for adults with a BMI of at least 35 plus at least one weight-related condition. The primary-care rollout began in June 2025 with the highest-need groups first, initially BMI 40+ with four or more qualifying conditions.46

RouteWho it covers
NHS (phased)NICE: BMI 35+ with at least one weight-related condition. Rollout began with BMI 40+ and four or more conditions.
Licence / privateBMI 30+, or BMI 27–30 with at least one weight-related condition, alongside diet and activity.1

So someone with a BMI of 27 and, for example, high blood pressure falls within the licence. They would not yet be within the NHS rollout. Read our guides on whether a GP can prescribe Mounjaro and whether your GP will prescribe it for weight loss.

02 · Other blockers

Other reasons a GP might decline

Your practice may not yet be offering the service locally, as availability differs by area. Your GP may also judge that your medical history or current medicines make it unsuitable, which is a prescriber's decision. If you have type 2 diabetes, see Mounjaro prescribing for diabetes. For wider options, see whether your GP can prescribe GLP-1 medicines. GPs can generally decline to prescribe a medicine they judge inappropriate or outside local commissioning; ask them to explain the reason and note it down.

03 · Next steps

What you can do next

Ask your GP which criteria you miss and whether local services are open yet, and ask to be reviewed as rollout widens. If you meet the licensed criteria and don't want to wait, regulated private treatment is an option. A free consultation is reviewed by a GPhC-registered prescriber, and unsuitable orders are refunded automatically.

The Mounjaro pen starts with a 2.5mg first pen at £129.99 on a first order with code FIRST40 (standard price £169.99), and all six doses are in stock. Every later order is £25 off the standard price. Delivery is free and next-day, with same-day dispatch when ordered by 3pm. See how to buy Mounjaro. Prices checked 10 October 2026.

04 · What Mounjaro does

What Mounjaro is and how it works

Mounjaro is the brand name for tirzepatide, a once-weekly injectable prescription medicine made by Eli Lilly. In the UK it is licensed for weight management in adults and for type 2 diabetes.1

Tirzepatide activates two natural gut-hormone receptors at once, GIP and GLP-1. Together these help regulate appetite, slow how quickly the stomach empties and improve the way the body responds to insulin. Most people feel fuller sooner and less hungry between meals.1

05 · What results look like

How quickly does it work, and what to expect

In SURMOUNT-1, which included 2,539 adults, people taking tirzepatide alongside diet and exercise lost on average 15% of body weight on 5mg, 19.5% on 10mg and 20.9% on 15mg over 72 weeks, compared with 3.1% with lifestyle changes alone. Individual results vary. For someone starting at 100 kg, 20.9% is about 21 kg.2

These are trial averages, and treatment works alongside a reduced-calorie diet and increased physical activity, not instead of them.

How ordering works

How ordering works at EverydayMeds

Three steps, with our pharmacy team alongside you.

  1. EverydayMeds online consultation on a mobile phone

    Step 1: Online consultation — 5–10 minutes

Complete a confidential health questionnaire covering BMI, medical history and current medication. No payment is taken until you're approved.

  2. A clinician ready to review an online consultation

Step 2: Prescriber review — usually same day

A UK registered prescriber checks your suitability against the licensed criteria (BMI ≥30, or ≥27 with a weight-related condition) and contraindications, and confirms your starting dose.

  3. An EverydayMeds delivery box

    Step 3: Next-day tracked delivery

Dispensed by our GPhC-registered pharmacy in temperature-controlled packaging with needles and a sharps bin included. Orders approved by 3pm for next-day tracked delivery.

Prescription and dispatch follow clinical approval. Confirm current delivery options when ordering.

Afterwards you're not on your own: dose-change reviews are built in before each step up, our pharmacist team is available for side-effect questions, and repeat orders re-check suitability rather than auto-shipping.

Your questions, answered

Mounjaro price UK — frequently asked questions

Answers to common questions about Mounjaro prices, NHS access and ongoing treatment.

Ask our pharmacy team
Can my GP refuse to prescribe Mounjaro?
Yes. NHS access is being phased in over several years, so a GP may decline if you fall outside the current rollout group or local services aren't open yet. Ask which criteria you miss and when you might be reviewed. A refusal is not a verdict that you couldn't benefit.
How can I get my GP to prescribe Mounjaro?
Check where you sit against NICE's criteria: BMI of at least 35 plus a weight-related condition. Bring your BMI and any related conditions, and ask whether your area has opened the service. The rollout began in June 2025 with BMI 40+ and four or more conditions, so you may need to wait.
What BMI do you need to qualify for Mounjaro?
On the NHS, NICE recommends a BMI of at least 35 plus a weight-related condition, with the rollout starting at BMI 40+ and four or more conditions. The licence is wider: BMI 30+, or 27–30 with at least one weight-related condition. A prescriber assesses suitability.
Can I get Mounjaro if I have a BMI of 27?
Possibly, privately. The licence covers a BMI between 27 and 30 with at least one weight-related condition, such as high blood pressure, high cholesterol, sleep apnoea, cardiovascular disease, prediabetes or type 2 diabetes. A prescriber reviews your history and medicines before deciding.
Can I get Mounjaro from Boots in the UK?
Boots is one of the UK pharmacies we track, with Mounjaro dose prices from £179.00 to £339.00 per month, checked 10 October 2026. A prescription is needed wherever you buy it. Compare options and check availability at the time of order.
How much does Mounjaro cost across UK pharmacies?
Across the UK pharmacies we track, Mounjaro pens range from £143.96 to £339.00 per month depending on dose and provider, checked 10 October 2026. Compare the same dose between providers, and only buy from a registered pharmacy that requires a prescription.
Is a private prescription legitimate if my GP said no?
Yes, if it is supplied by a registered pharmacy after a consultation reviewed by a GPhC-registered prescriber. Mounjaro is prescription-only. Be wary of anyone offering to supply without a consultation or prescription. You can check a pharmacy on the GPhC register.
