Who Sells GLP-1 Drugs in the UK? (October 2026)

In the UK, GLP-1 weight-loss medicines are sold only on prescription, by GPhC-registered pharmacies (online and high street) and supplied through NHS services, while Eli Lilly and Novo Nordisk make them but do not sell to the public. Pills, injections and pens all follow the same rule. We are a GPhC-registered pharmacy (9012878). Current stock is in stock. Prices checked 11 October 2026.

A quick overview

What to know
before you start.

  • GLP-1 medicines are prescription-only in the UK, so a legitimate seller always needs a consultation reviewed by a prescriber.
  • Manufacturers such as Eli Lilly and Novo Nordisk supply pharmacies and the NHS; they do not sell to individuals.
  • Licensed GLP-1 tablets now exist: Wegovy tablets and Foundayo, and each has its own product page here.
  • Anyone offering GLP-1 drugs without a consultation or prescription, or selling 'natural GLP-1' supplements as equivalents, is not a legitimate seller.
  • Across the UK pharmacies we track, Mounjaro pens range from £143.96 to £339.00 per month (checked 11 October 2026).
In this guide

01 · The short answer

Who sells GLP-1 drugs in the UK?

GLP-1 drugs are sold in the UK by registered pharmacies and supplied by NHS services, and only against a prescription. That covers injections such as Mounjaro and Wegovy and the newer tablets. There is no legal over-the-counter route for any of them.

Mounjaro (tirzepatide) is made by Eli Lilly and is licensed in the UK for weight management in adults and for type 2 diabetes.1 It is a prescription-only medicine, supplied only after an online consultation reviewed by a GPhC-registered prescriber.1 Wegovy (semaglutide) is made by Novo Nordisk and follows the same rule.

Cost-focused readers can also look at where Mounjaro is cheapest and available.

02 · Comparison

The types of seller compared

Seller typeNeeds a prescription? What to know
NHS (GP or specialist weight-management service)YesAccess is phased in over several years and follows NICE criteria; no private fee.
GPhC-registered online pharmacyYes, after a consultation reviewed by a prescriberCheck the registration number on the public register. Prices differ between providers.
High street pharmacy offering a weight-loss serviceYesSame prescribing rules; often an in-person or video appointment.
Manufacturers (Eli Lilly, Novo Nordisk)Not applicableThey make and distribute to pharmacies and the NHS; they do not sell to individuals.
Social media, forums, 'research peptide' sitesOften noneNot a regulated supply chain. Avoid.
Supplement sellers ('natural GLP-1')NoLow-cost supplement, no clinical oversight and no comparable trial evidence.

The first four rows are legitimate. The last two are not, and the difference is not only legal: with unregulated supply you cannot know what is in the product.

03 · What to do next

Choosing where to get treatment

Start by deciding whether you meet the licensed criteria, then pick a regulated route. Our weight loss clinic explains how a consultation works. If you are leaning towards injections, the Mounjaro pen page shows live prices and starts the free consultation. Your first 2.5mg pen costs £129.99 with code FIRST40 (standard price £169.99), and every later order is £25 off the standard price.

04 · Makers versus sellers

Manufacturers are not the people who sell to you

The company that makes a GLP-1 medicine is rarely the one that sells it to you. Eli Lilly makes Mounjaro and Foundayo. Novo Nordisk makes Wegovy injections and Wegovy tablets. Both supply wholesalers, pharmacies and the NHS.

That distinction matters when you read adverts. A site that claims to be 'the manufacturer' or to sell 'direct from the lab' to individuals without a prescription is not describing a normal UK supply chain. A pharmacy sourcing from the maker's authorised UK distribution is. We supply Mounjaro through official LillyDirect supply, which means genuine KwikPens direct from Eli Lilly's UK distribution.

If you are curious about the companies behind these medicines, see our explainers on which companies make GLP-1 drugs, how manufacturing is organised and who developed the science. For the ownership question there is a separate page on who owns the GLP-1 medicines.

The injectables differ in what they are. Mounjaro is a once-weekly injectable made by Eli Lilly and comes as a pre-filled multi-dose pen (KwikPen) in six strengths: 2.5mg, 5mg, 7.5mg, 10mg, 12.5mg and 15mg.1

05 · Licensed GLP-1 tablets

Who sells GLP-1 pills?

GLP-1 pills are sold by the same regulated routes as injections: pharmacies and NHS services, on prescription. Two are now licensed in the UK for weight management, and they are different medicines from Mounjaro.

There is no tablet form of Mounjaro — tirzepatide is injection-only in the UK. Two GLP-1 weight-loss tablets are now licensed in the UK: Wegovy tablets (oral semaglutide, made by Novo Nordisk), approved by the MHRA in June 2026, and Foundayo (orforglipron, made by Eli Lilly), approved in August 2026.2021 Both are prescription-only.

Wegovy tablets. They contain semaglutide, the same active ingredient as the Wegovy injection, taken as one tablet once a day. They are licensed for weight management in adults with a BMI of 30 or above, or 27 to under 30 with at least one weight-related condition, alongside a reduced-calorie diet and more physical activity.20 The tablet must be taken on an empty stomach after fasting for at least 8 hours, swallowed whole with a sip of water (up to half a glass, about 120ml), and you then wait at least 30 minutes before eating, drinking or taking other tablets.20 You can see current prices on the Wegovy pill page.

Foundayo. It contains orforglipron, a once-daily GLP-1 tablet made by Eli Lilly. Unlike Wegovy tablets it can be taken at any time of day, with or without food and without water restrictions.21 Prices and consultation are on the Foundayo page.

What the tablet trials showed

In the OASIS 4 trial, adults taking semaglutide 25mg tablets for 64 weeks lost on average 13.6% of their body weight, compared with 2.2% on placebo.22 In the ATTAIN-1 trial of 3,127 adults without type 2 diabetes, people taking the highest dose of orforglipron for 72 weeks lost on average 12.4% of their body weight, compared with 0.9% on placebo.23 Individual results vary.

Mounjaro is a once-weekly injection; Wegovy tablets and Foundayo are once-daily tablets. No trial has compared Mounjaro directly with either tablet, so results from separate trials — with different people, durations and doses — should not be set against each other as if they were head to head.20 A prescriber will check which option is suitable for your health, your other medicines and your routine.

The most common side effects of the tablets are digestive, such as nausea, constipation, diarrhoea, vomiting, indigestion and stomach pain.2122

06 · NHS supply

NHS access to GLP-1 drugs

The NHS is a seller of sorts: it supplies GLP-1 medicines through GPs and specialist services, at no charge beyond any normal prescription arrangements. Mounjaro is available on the NHS, but access is being phased in over several years.4

NICE recommends it for adults with a BMI of at least 35 plus at least one weight-related condition, and the NHS primary-care rollout began in June 2025 with the highest-need groups first (initially BMI 40+ with four or more qualifying conditions).46 Full rollout is expected to take years, which is why many people who meet the licensed criteria choose regulated private treatment rather than waiting.

NHS access to Wegovy runs through specialist weight-management services; ask your GP. Whether you go NHS or private, the prescribing logic is the same: a clinician assesses whether the medicine is suitable for you.

07 · Spotting unsafe sellers

How to tell a legitimate seller from a scam

A legitimate seller will always want to assess you first. Anyone offering to supply without a consultation or prescription is breaking the rules, whatever the website looks like. Counterfeit and unlicensed products are a known risk, and the MHRA publishes counterfeit medicine alerts.7

Use this checklist before you pay anyone:

  • Check the register. A real UK pharmacy has a GPhC registration number you can look up on the public register. Ours is GPhC 9012878.
  • Look for a consultation. A questionnaire reviewed by a GPhC-registered prescriber, not an instant checkout.
  • Beware of dramatic weight-loss claims. Promises of specific results are a warning sign.
  • Avoid 'research' products. Unlicensed 'research' peptides, such as retatrutide, which has no UK licence, and compounded copies have no safety data and no regulated supply chain.7
  • Check how it is packed. Genuine pens arrive in temperature-controlled packaging from a pharmacy, not in an unmarked envelope.

If you ever have a side effect from any medicine, you can report it through the MHRA Yellow Card scheme.19

08 · Supplements and 'natural GLP-1'

Do supplement sellers count?

No. 'Natural GLP-1' supplements (such as berberine) are not medicines, are not regulated for this use and have no comparable trial evidence. They are low-cost supplements with no clinical oversight, and their cheapness is a reason for caution, not a bargain. Dosing is not standardised.

Other licensed options exist beyond GLP-1 drugs. Orlistat (tablet) blocks some dietary fat absorption and produces smaller average losses, and Wegovy and Saxenda (liraglutide) are other licensed injectables. Liraglutide is supplied at 6mg/ml and is a daily injection, unlike once-weekly Mounjaro and Wegovy.

Ozempic is semaglutide licensed for type 2 diabetes — it is not a UK weight-loss medicine, and prescribing it privately for weight loss is off-label. A regulated UK pharmacy will not supply Ozempic for weight loss. The licensed weight-management options are Mounjaro (tirzepatide) and Wegovy (semaglutide 2.4mg).

09 · Cost and comparing sellers

How much do GLP-1 drugs cost from different sellers?

Private prices vary by medicine, dose and pharmacy. Across the UK pharmacies we track, Mounjaro pens range from £143.96 to £339.00 per month, and the smallest and largest gap between providers for the same dose runs from £27 to £41 (checked 11 October 2026). Starting 2.5mg pens range from £143.96 to £179.99.

Our own prices are shown live. A new customer gets £40 off their first order at any dose with code FIRST40, and an automatic £25 reorder discount applies to every future order (code DOSE25). Wegovy's first pen is £99.99 as a first-order price; see the Wegovy pen page for current details.

When you compare sellers, look beyond the headline price. Ask whether the consultation is free, whether delivery is included and whether ongoing reviews are part of the service. Our consultation is free, the price shown is the price paid, and delivery is free next-day tracked in temperature-controlled packaging (Saturday delivery £14.99). Payment options include Visa/Mastercard and Klarna, with no subscriptions.

Which medicine is the seller offering?

In the first large head-to-head trial (SURMOUNT-5), adults on tirzepatide lost on average 20.2% of body weight over 72 weeks versus 13.7% on semaglutide 2.4mg (Wegovy).15 Both are effective, licensed treatments; which suits you depends on your health profile, tolerance and prescriber advice, not the headline number alone.15 In the STEP 1 trial, adults on semaglutide 2.4mg (Wegovy) lost on average 14.9% of body weight over 68 weeks, compared with 2.4% on placebo.9

10 · Who should not buy

Who should not buy a GLP-1 drug

Some people should not use these medicines, and a good seller will screen for that. You should not take Mounjaro if you are allergic to tirzepatide or any of its ingredients. Your prescriber will take extra care, or may recommend against treatment, if you have a history of pancreatitis, severe gut or digestive disease, diabetic retinopathy, or gallbladder problems. Always share your full medical history and medicine list during consultation. Mounjaro must not be used during pregnancy, and it should be stopped at least one month before trying to conceive.1 If you become pregnant during treatment, stop the medicine and tell your prescriber promptly.1

Mounjaro slows stomach emptying, which can reduce how well oral contraceptive pills are absorbed. The SmPC advises switching to a non-oral method, or adding a barrier method (such as condoms), for 4 weeks after starting Mounjaro and for 4 weeks after each dose increase.1 This applies to the pill only — implants, coils and injections are unaffected.1

Mounjaro is used alongside a reduced-calorie diet and increased physical activity. Individual results vary. This page is information, not a substitute for medical advice.

Your questions, answered

Mounjaro price UK — frequently asked questions

Answers to common questions about Mounjaro prices, NHS access and ongoing treatment.

Ask our pharmacy team
Who sells GLP-1 drugs in the UK?
GLP-1 drugs are sold by GPhC-registered pharmacies, online and on the high street, and supplied through NHS services, always on prescription. The manufacturers, Eli Lilly and Novo Nordisk, supply those pharmacies and the NHS rather than selling to the public. Anyone offering them without a consultation or prescription is not a legitimate seller.
How much do GLP-1 medications typically cost?
Across the UK pharmacies we track, Mounjaro pens range from £143.96 to £339.00 per month (checked 11 October 2026). Starting 2.5mg pens range from £143.96 to £179.99.
What is Eli Lilly's new weight-loss drug?
Foundayo (orforglipron) is Eli Lilly's once-daily GLP-1 tablet, now licensed in the UK for weight management in adults. Unlike Wegovy tablets it can be taken at any time of day, with or without food. It is different from Mounjaro, which remains a once-weekly injection.
What happens when you stop GLP-1?
Tirzepatide has a half-life of about five days, so after a final dose it takes roughly four to five weeks to clear the system. There is no way to speed this up, and nothing needs doing while it clears. Mounjaro manages weight; it does not cure the biology behind it. In SURMOUNT-4, people who stopped tirzepatide after 36 weeks regained on average 14% of body weight over the following year, while those who continued treatment lost a further 5.5% on average. Stopping should always be planned with your prescriber, with diet and activity habits ready to carry the load.
Do you have to stay on GLP-1 forever for weight loss?
There is no fixed rule that applies to everyone; the decision is made with your prescriber, based on your health, your results and how you tolerate treatment. These medicines work alongside a reduced-calorie diet and increased physical activity, not instead of them. Ongoing reviews are how that plan is kept under check.
Is it possible to lose weight without taking GLP-1 medication?
Yes. A reduced-calorie diet and increased physical activity are the foundation of any weight-loss plan, and the medicines are designed to work alongside them. Orlistat is another licensed option, with smaller average losses. 'Natural GLP-1' supplements are not medicines and have no comparable trial evidence. A prescriber can advise on suitable routes.
Should a 75 year old woman take Mounjaro?
That is a decision for a prescriber, not a general rule. They will look at her overall health, other medicines and whether the licensed criteria are met; no dose adjustment is needed for older adults, though experience in people aged 75 and over is more limited, so prescribers take extra care. Anyone considering treatment should have a full consultation. Start with our weight loss clinic consultation, which is free and reviewed by a GPhC-registered prescriber.
Is Mounjaro or Ozempic used for weight loss?
Ozempic is semaglutide licensed for type 2 diabetes, not weight loss, so a regulated UK pharmacy will not supply it for that purpose. For weight loss the real comparison is Mounjaro against Wegovy.
