A quick overview

What to know
before you start.

  • Shops sell fibre products, supplements and drinks that are marketed for appetite, but they are low-cost, unassessed and have no standardised dosing.
  • Prescription Mounjaro is a licensed weight-management medicine for eligible adults, reviewed by a GPhC-registered prescriber.
  • Mounjaro activates GIP and GLP-1 receptors, so most people feel fuller sooner and less hungry between meals.
  • A 2.5mg starter pen has a standard price of £169.99 per month; your first pen is £129.99 with code FIRST40.
  • Never buy weight-loss pens from social media, salons or unverified sites: the MHRA has found fake pens, some containing insulin.

01 · Your options

What you can buy to suppress your appetite in the UK

You can buy three kinds of product: foods and drinks, over-the-counter supplements, and, via a consultation, a prescription medicine. They differ hugely in oversight and in what is known about them.

02 · The licensed option

The prescription option: Mounjaro

Mounjaro is the brand name for tirzepatide, a once-weekly injectable prescription medicine made by Eli Lilly, licensed in the UK for weight management in adults.1 It is not something you pick off a shelf: it is supplied only after an online consultation reviewed by a GPhC-registered prescriber.

Tirzepatide activates two natural gut-hormone receptors at once, GIP and GLP-1. Together these help regulate appetite and slow how quickly the stomach empties. In practice most people feel fuller sooner and less hungry between meals, which supports a reduced-calorie diet.1

On cost, the Mounjaro pen comes in six strengths. The 2.5mg starter pen has a standard price of £169.99 per month (one 4-week pen, about £42.50 per week). Your first 2.5mg pen costs £129.99 with code FIRST40. After that, every later order is £25 off the standard price (code DOSE25). If you step up after 4 weeks on each dose, your first four pens (2.5mg to 10mg) cost £959.96 at standard prices; a new customer's first order is £40 less and every later order £25 less. A first year costs £2,711.88 if you stay on 5mg after your 2.5mg starting pen, up to £3,599.88 if you step up through every dose to 15mg. The price shown is the price paid, and the consultation is free.

Across the UK pharmacies we track, Mounjaro pens ranged from £143.96 to £339.00 per month as of 10 October 2026, so it is worth comparing like for like by dose.

03 · Eligibility

Who Mounjaro is for, and who should look elsewhere

Mounjaro is licensed for adults with a BMI of 30 or above, or a BMI between 27 and 30 with at least one weight-related condition such as high blood pressure, high cholesterol, obstructive sleep apnoea, cardiovascular disease, prediabetes or type 2 diabetes. It must be used alongside a reduced-calorie diet and increased physical activity.1 A prescriber assesses your BMI, medical history and current medicines before deciding whether it is suitable. Mounjaro is not suitable for everyone. You should not take it if you are allergic to tirzepatide or any of its ingredients, and it should not be used during pregnancy or while trying to conceive. Your prescriber will take extra care, or may recommend against treatment, if you have a history of pancreatitis, severe gut or digestive disease, diabetic retinopathy, or gallbladder problems. Always share your full medical history and medicine list during consultation. Mounjaro must not be used during pregnancy, and it should be stopped at least one month before trying to conceive. If you become pregnant during treatment, stop the medicine and tell your prescriber promptly.

If you are below those thresholds, or simply want to curb snacking, a prescription medicine is not the right tool. That is not a failure: it means the licensed route is not open to you, and everyday options are where to start. Our guides on how to suppress appetite and help to suppress appetite go through them.

04 · How to order

How ordering works

Ordering takes three steps, and if the prescriber decides the treatment is not suitable, your order is refunded automatically in full.

  • Free online consultation: a short health questionnaire, no charge and no obligation. Start your free consultation.
  • Prescriber review: reviewed by a GPhC-registered prescriber, not a scoring script. Payment is taken when you place the order; if the prescriber decides the treatment is not suitable, the order is refunded automatically in full.
  • Dispensing and delivery: dispensed by our registered pharmacy, with same-day dispatch when ordered by 3pm and free next-day tracked delivery in temperature-controlled packaging. Saturday delivery is £14.99.

We supply Mounjaro direct from Eli Lilly's UK distribution through official LillyDirect supply, and all six doses are in stock. Needles, a sharps bin and injection guidance come with every order, and ongoing monthly reviews are included. You can see the full range on our weight loss treatments page, or go straight to buy Mounjaro.

05 · Food noise and hormones

Food noise, hunger hormones and what medicines target

"Food noise" is the everyday phrase for constant thoughts about eating, and there is no single hormone that switches hunger off. Appetite is regulated by several gut hormones working together.

Two of those gut-hormone systems are GIP and GLP-1. Tirzepatide activates both types of receptor, and together they help regulate appetite, slow how quickly the stomach empties, and improve the way the body responds to insulin.1 That is why people on treatment commonly describe feeling fuller sooner and less hungry between meals.

This dual action is what distinguishes Mounjaro from single-action GLP-1 medicines such as semaglutide (Wegovy/Ozempic).1 If you are asking how to stop food noise, the honest answer is that a licensed medicine acts on hunger hormones, while products sold over the counter do not act on those receptors in a way that is assessed or standardised.

If food noise is distressing, or you feel you have lost control around eating, speak to your GP before trying anything. A prescriber can tell you whether a medicine is appropriate or whether other support would suit you better. Our guide to when you feel you need to suppress your appetite covers the first steps.

06 · Are suppressants safe?

Are appetite suppressants safe to use?

Safety depends entirely on what you are taking and who is overseeing it. A licensed prescription medicine has a Summary of Product Characteristics and a patient information leaflet that set out its side effects and who should not use it.113 Over-the-counter supplements are sold without individual assessment, and their dosing is not standardised.

That gap matters if you take other medicines or have a health condition. A product sold without a consultation cannot check that it suits you. A prescriber reviewing a Mounjaro order looks at your BMI, medical history and current medicines first.

Some situations need particular care. Mounjaro can reduce the absorption of oral contraceptives because it slows stomach emptying, so ask your prescriber about contraception. The SmPC advises switching to a non-oral method, or adding a barrier method (such as condoms), for 4 weeks after starting Mounjaro and for 4 weeks after each dose increase.1 If you use insulin or sulfonylureas, their doses may need adjusting because of the risk of low blood sugar.7

If you notice a new symptom on any product, tell your prescriber or pharmacist. You can also report suspected side effects through the Yellow Card scheme.19

Be wary of products that make dramatic weight-loss claims. A regulated pharmacy will never promise specific results.

07 · "Poor man's Ozempic"

"Poor man's Ozempic", "nature's Ozempic" and natural mimics

No supplement, food or drink is a natural version of a GLP-1 medicine. Phrases like "nature's Ozempic" or "poor man's Ozempic" are marketing labels, not descriptions of how a product works.

Berberine is one of the supplements most often sold under these labels. It is a low-cost supplement with no clinical oversight, and its dosing is not standardised. Treat any weight-loss figure a seller gives with caution.

The reason the comparison fails is mechanistic. Tirzepatide is a prescription medicine that activates GIP and GLP-1 receptors.1

You may ask what drink works like Ozempic. None does. Water, tea or coffee can be part of your day, but they are not a medicine. Our page on what you can use to suppress appetite looks at everyday tools in more detail.

08 · What the trials show

What the evidence shows for Mounjaro

The main trial for Mounjaro in weight management is SURMOUNT-1, which followed 2,539 adults. People taking tirzepatide alongside diet and exercise lost on average 15% of their body weight on 5mg, 19.5% on 10mg and 20.9% on 15mg over 72 weeks, compared with 3.1% with lifestyle changes alone.2

These are trial averages, and individual results vary. Treatment works alongside a reduced-calorie diet and increased physical activity, not instead of them. For someone starting at 100 kg, 20.9% is about 21 kg.

At 72 weeks, 85% of participants on 5mg, 89% on 10mg and 91% on 15mg had lost at least 5% of their body weight. Half of participants on 10mg and 57% on 15mg lost at least 20% of their body weight.2 Trial averages do not predict your own result.

If you want to see how your own goals fit, our guides on suppressing appetite for weight loss and suppressing appetite and losing weight explain what to expect from different routes.

09 · NHS or private?

NHS or private: the honest picture

Mounjaro is available on the NHS, but access is being phased in over several years. NICE recommends it for adults with a BMI of at least 35 plus at least one weight-related condition. The NHS primary-care rollout began in June 2025 with the highest-need groups first, initially BMI 40+ with four or more qualifying conditions.46

Full rollout is expected to take years, which is why many people who meet the licensed criteria choose regulated private treatment rather than waiting. The NHS guide to tirzepatide explains the medicine and its use.5 Ask your GP whether you are in a group that can be treated now.

If you do not meet the NHS or licensed criteria, over-the-counter products are not a substitute for assessment. If the NHS prescription charge matters to you for other medicines, that charge in England is £9.90, but it does not apply to private weight-loss treatment.

10 · Avoiding fake pens

Buying safely: fake pens and unverified sellers

The MHRA has seized thousands of fake weight-loss pens in the UK and has issued alerts after falsified Mounjaro pens were identified. Fake pens have caused hospitalisations, and some contained insulin rather than tirzepatide.7

Only buy from a pharmacy you can verify on the GPhC register, never from social media, beauty salons or unverified websites.12 Genuine treatment always involves a prescription and a clinical consultation. Anyone offering to supply without a consultation or prescription is a warning sign.

Genuine UK stock is supplied through Lilly's official distribution to licensed pharmacies, and every pen carries a batch number and expiry date that can be checked. A genuine pen arrives cold-chain packaged, and the solution inside is clear and colourless. Do not use a pen that has been frozen, looks cloudy or discoloured, has particles in it, is past its expiry, or has been above 30°C or out of the fridge for more than 30 days in use. If anything seems wrong, contact the pharmacy before injecting.

11 · Shortcuts to avoid

Shortcuts to avoid if you are on treatment

Each Mounjaro KwikPen is designed and licensed to deliver exactly four weekly doses. Use the pen as designed, then dispose of it.

Likewise, Mounjaro is licensed as a once-weekly medicine, and its blood levels are designed around a 7-day cycle. Talk to your clinical team rather than adjusting it yourself.

Tirzepatide has a half-life of about five days, so after a final dose it takes roughly 4–5 weeks to clear the system.1 Nothing speeds this up and nothing needs doing while it clears.

12 · Serious side effects

Serious side effects: when to get help straight away

Serious side effects are uncommon but need urgent attention. Seek immediate medical help for: severe, persistent stomach pain that may spread to your back, with or without vomiting (possible pancreatitis); pain in the upper right abdomen, fever or yellowing of skin/eyes (possible gallbladder problems); or signs of a severe allergic reaction such as swelling of the face or throat and difficulty breathing. If you take insulin or a sulfonylurea alongside Mounjaro, watch for low blood sugar (shakiness, sweating, confusion) — your prescriber may need to adjust those medicines.1

Your questions, answered

Mounjaro price UK — frequently asked questions

Answers to common questions about Mounjaro prices, NHS access and ongoing treatment.

Ask our pharmacy team
What can I buy to suppress my appetite in the UK?
You can buy fibre products, foods, drinks and supplements without a prescription, but these have no clinical oversight and their dosing is not standardised. The licensed route is prescription Mounjaro (tirzepatide), supplied after a free online consultation reviewed by a GPhC-registered prescriber for eligible adults.
What can I take to curb my appetite?
A prescription option for eligible adults is Mounjaro, which activates GIP and GLP-1 receptors that help regulate appetite. A prescriber reviews your BMI, history and current medicines first.
How do I stop food noise?
There is no single switch for food noise. Appetite is regulated by gut hormones, including GIP and GLP-1, which Mounjaro targets in eligible adults. If constant thoughts about food are distressing, speak to your GP or a prescriber, who can discuss whether medicine or other support suits you.
What hormone stops hunger?
No single hormone does. Gut hormones such as GLP-1 and GIP help regulate appetite and slow how quickly the stomach empties. Tirzepatide, the medicine in Mounjaro, activates both receptors, so most people feel fuller sooner and less hungry between meals.
Are appetite suppressants safe to use?
It depends on the product. Licensed medicines have a product leaflet listing side effects and who should avoid them, and a prescriber checks suitability. Supplements are sold without individual assessment. Always tell a pharmacist about other medicines, and report suspected side effects through the Yellow Card scheme.
What is known as the "poor man's Ozempic"?
It is a marketing label, most often attached to berberine supplements. No supplement is a natural version of a GLP-1 medicine. Such products are low-cost with no clinical oversight and non-standardised dosing.
What drink works like Ozempic?
No drink works like Ozempic or other GLP-1 medicines. Semaglutide and tirzepatide are prescription injections that act on gut-hormone receptors. Water, tea and coffee are ordinary drinks, not medicines, and products marketed with dramatic weight-loss claims should be treated with caution.
What is the pill that makes you not want to eat?
There is no tablet form of Mounjaro, but two prescription-only GLP-1 weight-loss tablets are now licensed in the UK: Wegovy tablets (oral semaglutide) and Foundayo (orforglipron). Mounjaro itself is a weekly injection, supplied only after a consultation with a GPhC-registered prescriber.
